“I told him I loved him”
This guy almost in tears has the most humanity 😭
I love you is one of the most powerful things you can say to anyone. I love both that witness and the officer. This was a really emotional video.
I agree, he had me in tears with his response and his compassion. Good man.

It's kind of weird how that's the only part that was rendered *inaudible*
There’s power in what he said. Incredible the Trooper recovered.

That made me cry like a baby.

I hope so, too. It... seriously messes you up, not knowing. I was the first to a woman's side when someone hit her while she was crossing the street, and to this day I have no idea if she lived. Hearing the man say "I told him I loved him"-- I bawled. It's going to haunt him, too.
they probably will. I know here they definitely would, and have psychologists on standby to assist with aftercare.
And of course to take an official witness report.

They would have. They would need to get a statement from him.
The guy who stayed with the officer melted my heart, I am so grateful people like that exist in this world.

Thats great for the officer, and how flawed is our system that attemped murder with a vechile is seen as something that can be ammended with 6 and half yrs. Likely she get it reduced too and get out on probation. Sounds like she has the financial means to afford a lawyer to get such a plea deal.

The poor man who witnessed and helped. That will stick with him for quite some time. About four years ago I witnessed a stabbing and held a mans intestines for 8 long minutes. I remember the feeling of other people watching and not helping. They were frozen. I remember telling the man that he was gonna be okay and that I loved him too. I remember the fear in his eyes as he asked for me to hold his hand and the how guilty I felt that I couldn’t hold his hand but I was literally holding his guts in his body. If it was going to be his last minutes I wanted to ease his fear as much as possible. Time stood still but lasted forever all at once. I was calm like the eye of a storm. But the second the police took over and I stepped back it was like time sped up and I was hit by the storm itself. Covered in blood I just stood there. I thought I was handling it fairly well. Then days later I couldn’t stop wondering if he survived. It was eating me up. I’m a fairly hardened person who rarely cries but I was suddenly having tears pour out of my face. It was affecting my work and my life. Then three weeks later I was on break at work and a coworker called saying I needed to go in, that someone was looking for me. I thought it was detectives as they had come multiple times. I walked in and it was the man. He survived but barely. He was handicapped which I hadn’t realized somehow. He had a card and flowers for me. Inside the card in messy scribbles it said “Thank you for saving my life”. I just hugged him and sobbed. I know I was there for a reason and I am grateful I was. But that stuff stays with you. Sorry for the long post, just seeing the witness emotional brought back all those feelings. I hope he his well. And thank you to anyhow who read this long comment
Thank you for your selfless act of courage and love. I hope your comment inspires others to be better humans. God bless you! Hope you are well now!

I scrubbed heart cases years ago at a level 1 trauma OR in San Diego. We had a 21 year old female who had a congenital condition that had worsened to where we had to attempt an LVAD (to keep her alive until she was able to take a transplant). When they wheeled her in she was so small and frail...and was putting on such a brave face. I had finished setting up a little early so I broke scrub to help my good nurse friend with moving her over onto the OR bed. I can't get out of my head how light she was and all her lines and cords she had attached to her tiny frame.... I am a fairly emotional guy and consider myself fairly masculine and stoic most of the time. But this little lady...I held her hand as they put her off to sleep and she looked at me right before the drugs hit her veins and she squeezed my hand and said, "please don't let me die". All I could think to say (as my job is mostly dealing with the surgeons being scrubbed sterile and helping with the procedure) was, "We will take good care of you sweetie". I remember this because my nurse friend standing opposite me later commended me on NOT telling her that she will be alright...which is what I wanted to say instinctively.
Our sweet patient died after the docs tried and tried with her. I still cry thinking about her just writing this. How precious and fleeting life can sometimes be. Cherish every moment people and be well.

He saw it happen and was able to stop. If you’re on the highway, looking at the road, going 70+mph by the time you’ve processed what you’re seeing, you’ve already passed it. If he was on the ground, they may not have seen him at all.
If you can stop safely, then stop. Make sure your vehicle is out of the way of the ambulance. You don’t want 20 cars blocking paramedics
But since it’s rarely safe to slam on your brakes on the highway and this video itself proves it’s not particularly safe to pull over on the shoulder of the highway, the vast majority of the people that drove past are not assholes. but surely by now all of them should know do not walk in front of a parked car, just here on ytube ive seen so many cops being slammed into the rail by a vehicle coming from behind, its should be written procedure that no cop may do it,
Stopping on a busy highway has NEVER been the Smart thing to do... it goes back to their "ego"... this Dumb Ass is a slow learner... he'd be better off working in a Walmart.
@@Palmstreet-u7x I think it is, and often they'll angle their vehicle, but you have to consider that he was reversing and not just doing a normal traffic stop, where it would require him to consider it much more than a habit used during a traffic stop. It also may have been difficult to walk on the road due to traffic, so he was just walking around for a moment. In any case, I'm sure they trained everyone based on this happening.
I'm willing to bet that the officer was glad he was there that day, as she likely would've hit someone else. It's just another form of service. They'll take hits on purpose if it saves the life of someone else on the road.
Well, if he had walked behind the car, he would be dead.
@@DanniDuck it's just such a pity that the innocent people get injured by idiotic people who have no regard for other peoples lives, unfortunately it takes so many times either a accident or loss of life before new legislation is brought in to protect the law,

It wasn’t the judge, it was the DA who offered her the plea deal. While judges can reject them, they often don’t due to a large case load.

The pedastrian? @1:30?
A 30 year old struck the car in front of my fathers riding his bike down a hill in 2020 during lockdown, and my father stayed with him while he died so he would have someone there. But due to Australias horrible lockdown laws his parents couldn't go to his funeral and had to attend the funeral of their only son on skype,( they were in the UK) so my father also went along to the funeral after being asked by the fiance, even though my dad had lost his own son only a few years earlier. It means alot to the family if someone who cares was there in the end.
You need to park off the roadway for a good reason if there’s space, it’s a danger hazard to just obstruct the side of the road like that. Makes no sense, you can move over a couple of feet.

@2:35 “I told him I loved him….told him I had him, I gotcha, I gotcha, I gotcha” 😔 God bless this man. Seriously. My husband was an LEO for 28 years and to think of this man, or someone like him, taking time to stop and hold him after a catastrophic accident means everything. As he said, “everybody just kept going.” Our country is full of people who seem to only think of themselves and what they need. It makes me sad. I’m so thankful for this Good Samaritan. I wish prosecutors would stop offering plea deals
Another reason I will no longer serve on jury duty
They don't do it to be kind. They do it because some charges are harder to prove and the perp could end up getting a lighter sentence than the plea deal requires.
The problem is refusal to offer a Plea Deal has been argued as a violation of the 8th Amendment in the past, so now they offer it to everyone, in order to avoid being sued.
@@sbreheny As a cop I can promise you that's not necessarily the case. While sometimes yes but majority of the time it's to avoid the hassle and pain in the ass of court. I've been a cop for about 3 years and I'm very proactive, I arrest more than anyone else at my agency of about 40 cops. I've been to 1 jury trial ever, because everyone pleas out. They're not doing it because they know they're guilty, they're doing it because they're offered a plea deal. I had a drunk male I got into a pursuit with, all on video, heavily intoxicated, swerving all over the road drunk I chased for a while through a busy street. I charged him resisting arrest by fleeing creating a substantial risk to the public (felony) DWI (misdemeanor) and driving without a valid license (misdemeanor). He plead out to misdemeanor resisting arrest, DWI, and they dropped the no license charge. He did 10 days for being super drunk and us on a pursuit. That's just one example because he plead out recently, but 99% of arrests are plead out with a plea deal to avoid court. Otherwise we'd be having jury trials weekly.
If every single criminal offense went to trial we would still be dealing with cases from the 70s

I’m seriously baffled how she didn’t plead guilty to all those charges, our justice system is going way too easy on these criminals yet giving the non-criminals harsher punishments
I felt like I won the lottery when I heard the cop was awake & talking. That news just made my day!
The huge amount of relief I just experienced when they said, “He’s going to make it,” made my heart smile. I’m so thankful he survived. Thankful for these officers and the people who rendered aid and gave their eye witness statements. 💙💙💙💙💙
Man that officer has been through a lot and huge respect for the dude that stopped for the officer telling him he was here for him and he was going to be ok
As soon as I heard the man’s voice get shaky I started tearing up. I saw a horrible crash a while ago and I wanted to help but my parents forced me to stay in the car. A car full of teens were speeding, all survived except the passenger in the back seat. Apperently he flew through the windshield and died, the driver lived and I assume was charged with manslaughter but I’m not sure. Nobody what so ever should have to be apart of or experience anything like this and yet plenty of people do
I saw a car crash too, though it didn't affect me in a big way, what happened was the driver was drunk, but the passenger wasn't (don't know why the passengers didn't just drive instead.) They crashed into a tree, and it started a fire, the passenger died on impact, the driver was saved by people around us. (Though the driver did have major injuries and burns.)
Growing up in our later high-school years kids were driving coked up crashed into a tree kid who was laying across back seat sleeping (I think is how he was positioned) is now paralyzed. Kid who was driving served 0 time.
You have good parents. I wouldn't want my children to see it either, even if they were already 18. You're a good kid for wanting to help, but also still respectful of your parent's wishes

@@graydi66y She personally will be better off in prison than if she were still out and using being a threat to others as well as herself. This is another chance for a person who doesn't really deserve it.
At one point my heart sank when it sounded like he died, but praise God, he fought through. A close friend lost her bright, promising grandson when a drunk hit him head-on. Is there no way to stop them except imprisonment?
And I don't understand people driving by when it was just that one dear fellow alone trying to help the officer.
I'm only 1/3rd of the way through listening to the man who stopped and was reading through the comments thinking the officer died. My heart had already sank, your comment saved me a couple more minutes of heartache. Now I've just got to fight off these onion ninjas attacking my tearducts.
It is probably a good thing that so many people did continue to drive by. A lot of people could not properly assist. If a nurse or a doctor had been on the road, they could have helped out. The average person would have just been in the way.
This is a perfect example of stress relief humour, that many emergency response members exhibit in trying times.
Amen.
Anyone connected to the Funeral business usually has this same humor and/or dark humor. Morgue workers and Florists get it, too. You either develop a coping mechanism or you get out of the business. Humor is the better mechanism because many turn to food or drink and too much of either is unhealthy.
What's the example? Where in the video? Did I miss a joke?
@jklfds85 no. It's a stress release mechanism that first responders use when dealing with a horrible and or gruesome event. It is also called "gallows humor". You make jokes when people think it's uncalled for. At best, you try to find some humor in the situation or, like these officers did, use a past event that was funny as the basis for the jokes. It helps keep the mind from dwelling on the horror you've witnessed.
@rustyiron Yes, in some cases just how things are said. A family of Florists I knew had a few people who would giggle with a grimace or turn it into a cough in dark situations such as having to deal with funerals, going into the funeral parlor, or discussing such things. Weirdly or maybe not so weirdly, they'd dealt with death so much that, with a few very rare exceptions, horror movies didn't phase them. Sadly, it was something they'd grown up with and discussed over the dinner table type of thing. There are many jobs in healthcare that have similar circumstances. When I was young, I was told "all the good paying future jobs are going to be in healthcare!" and "healthcare will be AI proof!", but what they don't tell you is how you can lose your morality and/or soul working in healthcare if you don't have the right temperament or attitude. That's why you hear about so many healthcare workers stealing or committing crimes against the elderly or their employers. That's why you hear about healthcare workers turning to alcohol, drugs, smoking cigarettes and are over weight despite being nurses or doctors who above all others should know better.
It's horrible that the officer had only been working for 2 weeks. It must have been so defeating for him and the family. And thank you so much to the man who comforted him after being hit, saying "I love you" was probably such a comfort knowing that at least someone was there for you.

When that citizen that pulled over to help...when he said he talked to the officer to comfort him by saying he loved him, he's got him, and that everything was going to be alright...I started crying my eyes out. That I'm sure meant everything to that officer in that moment. I'm a paramedic, and that is a very confusing time for someone who just went through that kind of trauma. Im so glad there were some other witnesses that stopped, too. Bless them all.
Plea deal and 6(-2) years in prison... What tf is the point of a "plea" deal with less punishment when there is absolutely no effing doubt she did _ALL_ of it.
I know right? But prisons are full and other (maybe even worse) criminals need to be put there too. So they tend to do plea deal, to save on cost and space of prisons. It does not feel like justice is served tho
its manslaughter and it costs the court / city / state time and money to go through trials, almost every case has a plea deal offer on the table
Bullshit D.A.'s who put more pride into their conviction count wins, than putting in quality of work.

Absolutely heartbreaking, much love to his family, colleagues and friends ❤. Thank you to the witness, whose a wonderful compassionate person ❤
That man who stopped and stayed with him may have saved his life. When people go through such a traumatic accident they tend to close their eyes and never wake up. To have him there talking to him and saying “stay with me” among other endearing things probably kept him aware and conscious enough till help got there to take over. Not just that but if rest of traffic was going to other lane to pass sounds like he was close enough to possibly be ran over by another vehicle by accident if not for guy. Something laying in the road is much harder to identify till too late but something raised catches eyes quicker. This man was his guardian angel that day
That officer is lucky to be alive, god gave him another chance at life. Get well soon soldier❤

Addiction is pure hell. Not just for the addict, even more so for everyone around them. When someone causes an accident like this, they must be prosecuted, but we must find a way to fight for the addicts lives before they destroy the lives of others, and themselves. I pray for the trooper, his family, his fellow troopers and officers. I also pray for all of the addicts out there. Get help before you cause something like this to happen. The disease of addiction can be treated, but if you cause something like this, you will be prosecuted. It does not need to get to the point it did in this case.
This is why they keep doing it. She should have to spend much more time in prison. How many times do these people get a slap and let out, only to repeat it, time after time?
As long we have these liberal judges in power, shit like this will keep on happening.
Six years is hardly a "slap on the wrist". What like I'm going to go out and get drunk and drive because "hey, if I kill someone I'll only get six years in prison, which is like basically nothing. Hell I'll probably only serve four, no big deal"? People drink and drive because they think they won't get caught. And most of the time they don't. Just like shoplifters.
Six years is not a slap on a wrist. It's 8% of your life assuming you live to 80. I don't think you realize how long 6 years is.
