She was murdered in Florence, TX, on August 4th, 2022, we're supposed to go to trial in September, but it's been pushed many times...Also...knowing how the prosecutors have been handling my mother's case, death was taken off the table due to his plea....surprised they didn't try to go for insanity...that's what the defense is doing for my mom's case despite him running and hiding for a week after killing my mother...and then getting out on bond, going out to the bar, threatening to kill others at the bar, then getting re-arrested...
I'm so sorry to hear about your mother and the trial you've had to endure, especially when it seems like all she had done is stop to check on the young man to see how he's doing when he was stopped on the side of the road and he then murdered her in cold blood. Dang 😢 imagine you’re in the middle of a dental procedure and the two dentists are incapacitated. It’s going to be a bad time when your Novocain wears off
And you'd feel even worse if you complained about being in pain, considering what just happened to the two dentists... Makes a toothache seem petty and whiny in comparison. (And I've experienced a broken tooth with exposed nerve after a nasty fall - it's agony, I was screaming for someone to just knock me out, use a hammer, anything, since even breathing made that exposed nerve SCREAM in agony. Worst pain I've ever experienced and so much relief once I got to the dentist and they numbed me up! But I'm sure fatal bullet wounds are much worse).
The title is not clickbait. The charges were capital offenses eligible for capital punishment. Describing the case as a “death penalty case” is accurate. As for the thumbnail, how is it clickbait? You think people only wanted to watch this video because they thought one cop had “FBI” written on his magazine?
Strange that pd isn’t trained in emergency first aid. The PD in my area are required to have that training and know how to handle gsw’s . Is that not required in all departments?
It is very strange. I had to have CPR/first aid to be a camp counselor and a gymnastic coach. I feel like police have WAY higher chances of using that training too. CPR/first aid training is something everyone could benefit from knowing.
i used to work at a grocery store, my manager was army reserves and CPR certified. someone collapsed and stopped breathing and my manager just froze, and i jumped in also being CPR certified. All the training in the world does not prepare you for the adrenaline rush of actually being in a life or death situation and some people do not know how they will respond until it happens. some cops in small towns can go their whole career without having to pull their gun or deal with a medical emergency.
I bet they do have training and CPR however, they let the dispatch take the lead on what and how to do things to ensure something isn't missed in all the chaos.
@@calculatedchaos9134 probably has a lot to do regarding liability. Say a LEO is performing EFA and the person doesn’t make it, it *could* lead to a wrongful death lawsuit toward to person carrying out the EFA. A lot of people are litigious to the point some PDs don’t want to run that risk.
Yeah that makes no sense. Police are trained to use a gun. They need to be trained on what to do after you shoot someone with a gun and they are still alive. Same medical training applies with other guns. The fact they have to ask dispatch on how to treat a bullet wound is crazy.
I am a Spanish interpreter and I am 90% sure that few days before that happened I had a call from that same facility and the Dr. was named Jack (couldnt remmember the last name of the caller) but most likely was the one who passed away. I felt like an emptiness knowing that I talked to a person who days/weeks later was shot to death.
I only have one question. Are the Smith County deputies not certified in CPR? Based on the body cam video it did not appear so. That is basic first aid that all first responders should have.
@@exploringtheoutdoors1916 I’m pretty sure that it’s in CPR courses that if you have instructions from EMT you follow those before anything else you think of based on your personal level of training until they arrive on scene, where you relinquish all duties to them
@@bmurr13normally following the dispatcher instructed CPR is the way to go and use any CPR training for the physical motions, like most people don’t push down hard or fast enough. Even knowing what to expect the first time I actually did CPR it was a very traumatic experience for me like most people. Unfortunately in most rural areas and small-mid sized towns in the US the dispatchers lack the industry standard training and protocols so it’s a crap shoot on what sort of instructions a caller will get. I’ve had doctors call 9-1-1 and think they know better despite the fact they’re a gastroenterologist or whatever and have never done CPR so they really should listen, whereas other times I’ve had an ER nurse as a caller so instead of giving them instruction I counted along and timed their compressions to verify they’re maintaining rate. Another time I had a retired fire chief call but because he was using a very outdated CPR system I had to tactfully bring him into modern times.
@@bmurr13you are partially correct. Most police officers are certified as "EMRs". Emergency medical responders. They are the lowest level of medical provider. But as they are generally the first on scene they have command until a higher medical authority arrives. They also have tactical command, EMTs will not enter a scene until a cop says so. But having an EMT on the phone doesn't count. They have to be physically present for scene command to transfer.
I'd trust the operator...they like to tweak the procedure frequently. I've gone through courses several times and it seems it was slightly different every time. They don't even recommend breathing anymore, right? Just compressions.
I dunno, but even if they tried to it only takes all of 30 seconds to retrieve a gun from a vehicle. Thats not enough time to call police let alone get officers dispatched.

First of all THANK YOU for your amazing content! I absolutely LOVE this channel! 💙 The dispatcher and those officers were absolutely amazing! They tried so hard. This was so heartbreaking to watch. Also the only thing I could think of as to why the death penalty was off the table, is because, maybe the family of the deceased did not want that. I've seen that a lot over the years. Many times prosecutors want the death penalty in certain cases so bad, However when the family of the victims come to the prosecutor and say they do not want the death penalty, they have to respect that because it's not about them at the end of the day. It's about the victims and their families. My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and all of their families. Every single person in that office was a victim of that POS because they will forever be traumatized, that includes the officers on scene and everyone.
No @DimSimSam, there absolutely IS a mystery here: the DA is the one person allowed to request a death sentence for a conviction of capital murder. He chose not to do it & when he was asked “why not ask for death” his answer was “the victims have waited a long time for this day & the defendant pleaded guilty to capital murder”… What?? This tragedy had many many witnesses present who watched this manic with their own eyes murder 2 good people for no reason - so of course the manic pled guilty…This DA made a gutless decision, unfair to the victims & their families and unfair to taxpayers who now will pay for food, shelter & medical care for the rest of a murderer’s life. The sheriff says ppl think the death penalty is immoral, I think murdering 2 innocent people is immoral…and TX Gov Abbott wants us Texans to have MORE guns…. WTF ?

You put a lot of work into this video, this was great. The exclusive footage is cool.. that kind of stuff takes a while to get via FOIA. Thanks for sharing with us!
So the DA gave him a plea agreement but was worried about the optics it would bring if the public knew they were negotiating with this man. To guarantee a conviction on their record, they likely gave him the option of pleading guilty in exchange for life in prison and the death penalty off the table. It’s a common practice and for the record, most defendants plead not guilty all the way through trial where they’re ultimately given the maximum sentence. This plea agreement saved tax payers money and gave the DA a win for his record, so the reward for the defendant is no death penalty.
That EMS is fantastic at her job. I don't think people realize how difficult it is to give life saving instructions over the phone. Even if the victims were past the point of saving, the fact they made it to the hospital alive is testament to the competency of everyone involved.
I think its 3 or more people now they lowered it from 5 about 15 years ago before that in the way back times of the 80s/90s it was 5 KIA to be considered a mass shooting
I actually had a friend ask me why i carry my 🔫 everywhere, even to my dentist, doctors or countless other places. Things like this while rare, we do not get to choose when a person comes unglued and everyone in their path is now a target. Being your own first responder, be it 🔫 or medical may be the difference in going home or not. Carry medical, get training and carry anywhere legally possible. The average response time in most areas is 15 mins. The average femoral bl33d takes 90 seconds to be no return....
Two people being shot doesn't qualify as a mass shooting....not that this dude doesn't deserve everything he gets, but calling everything a mass shooting is doing nothing for anyone.
Misleading title, a workplace shooting makes it sound like the shooter targeted his workplace…… I mean mist location of shootings is someone’s workplace….
I remember when this happened. I live near Smith county. When Sheriff Smith said that no permit is required he is referring to a state law that was passed months prior. 29 states have the same law. In fairness, Sheriff Smith testified in favor of the law.
When a suspect flees in a vehicle the LP is a key piece of information to identify the specific vehicle. Can't always assume that a suspect will go directly home. ( I listen to public safety comms and years ago while working security I heard a TxDPS bolo broadcast about a vehicle last seen hundreds of miles away from my town. A couple hours later that vehicle was right in front of me at the property I was protecting!)
I am a Texan, former military and know Texas laws. Cops would not need to look for suspect other than on the premise if I was present. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Record everything, including the police
This was such a great video!! I hope you do more of these! I suspect that it was *the families of the victims who chose life in prison for the killer,* & the DA was protecting them from scrutiny by not telling the public how it was decided.
The death penalty is what many consider to be an "easy way out" with no true consequence. It just doesn't make sense to call it a punishment, depending on how you look at it. One thing I think everyone can agree on, though, is that victims of crimes like this don't often get a chance to decide what should be done about it. So if it's truly about punishment/consequence, then we're accepting the responsibility of deciding what that means. No scenario will leave everyone satisfied. I hope the families of the victims can find peace.
Yeah I used to be pro death penalty but through experience and growing up I realized what you have said above. I believe being locked up for life having to deal with the consequences of what the individual has done is a far better punishment for anyone that has some form of remorse anyway but that doesn’t bring the lives lost back. I feel sorry for the families of those men and their families.
The Narrator makes a clear effort to point out that he didnt have a license to have a weapon, but the 2nd amendment doesnt say anything about needing a license, and secondly, possibly more importantly, they can keep law abiding citizens from obtaining weapons, but the criminals will still get ahold of them.
I hate the fact that they have to blot all of this stuff...supposedly to stop people from committing these types of crimes, yet we have the highest amount of these types of crimes......while other countries show everything, and have lower rates of these crimes. There should be a warning of the subject matter, to let the viewer decide if they will watch it or not.
Why did you edit "FBI" to the magazine in the thumbnail since it was a state case handled by the Sheriff's Department and it said TPD? Why did you do that? What is the compelling reason you had to add that?
Probably just requesting different pieces of public record bodycam footage. Sometimes departments take a long time to release footage because they’re required to edit out certain personal info which is time consuming.

@@exploringtheoutdoors1916 I’m pretty sure that it’s in CPR courses that if you have instructions from EMT you follow those before anything else you think of based on your personal level of training until they arrive on scene, where you relinquish all duties to them
I noticed that too. Seems like a long time passed before they got CPR going too
@@bmurr13normally following the dispatcher instructed CPR is the way to go and use any CPR training for the physical motions, like most people don’t push down hard or fast enough.
They have to be physically present for scene command to transfer.

that dispatcher had more communication than anyone i know, she’s in the right field❤️
