I can understand her being afraid. There are multitudes of stories of cops gunning down unarmed civilians during traffic stops. Unless there is video, they walk free claiming "I feared for my life!". Maybe during that short time in jail, someone explained how gas mileage works. She said she was in downtown Houston? The nearest point in Arkansas to Houston is 235 miles as the crow flies. If she was driving that fast all those miles, no wonder she’s out of gas. The only time running out of gas MIGHT be an emergency is on some isolated road in Eastern New Mexico at night. It is a long way between vehicles.

I'm Canadian so I am sure my story doesnt really apply on some levels as police stops here are generally fairly chill. But when I was a small child in the 80s I was playing with some other kids in a culvert while my father was at a work baseball tournament and some kid threw a giant boulder on my hand severing my pinkie finger. My dad ran out from the outfield and threw me in his 1970s muscle car and drove like 120mph towards the hospital the next town over. He gets pulled over. I clearly remember the officer being like 'wow man what the hell do you think you are doing driving like that, you are going to kill someone!!' My dad looks at me and says 'show the police officer your hand!'. I did, the cops face goes white, and then suddenly we had a police escort going nearly as fast as we were already going to the hospital. lol. They even reattached my finger xD

Okay, so I was dumb at 16 and was driving a car the previous owner had ripped the general out of and within a half hour of where this likely took place (she mentioned living near houston) there's a high way that everyone is going around 100mph on as the typical speed of traffic and I once did 164 (thankfully didn't get caught I didn't even understand how dumb it was at the time) in a 80. I didn't even realize hownscared I should of been till I'd slowed back down to the limit and realized that I was still going at a speed that would easily kill me if anything happend and I'd just been going double that. Youthful with a license can mean not registering how scary your actions are. Not trying to say this lady didn't deserve worse than a $400 fine or that I shouldn't of had any sort of repremandmant for going that fast, but I do understand being more afraid of getting shot than driving too fast
At age 17 (being superman and knowing everything of course) I was caught doing 10 2 in a 55 in my brand new car. The unmarked State Police Officer told me to get out and go get in his car, told me about a few teenage "expert" drivers that he had to scrape out of demolished cars or put in plastic baggies (because they were incinerated.) After I stopped crying (he was actually crying himself telling me these stories) and composed myself, he said "YOU SHAKE MY HAND, get in that car and go home. Tell your Mom and Dad what happened, have your Mom or Dad call me so I know you are home safe, and this will be done." And I did. I'll never forget how he looked relating the details of those horrible, tragic accidents.
I had a similar situation on a very fast motorcycle . 🏍️ . I expected to get reamed out but the officer asked me what would have happened if a child had stepped into the roadway ? My smartassed smirk left my face and terror set in as I realized the true reality of that possibility . I literally shook uncontrollably for about 10 minutes and never drove anything fast again in a residential area ! Ever . I also thanked the officer and told him , 1 - we need more like you and 2 - thank you for saving my life . A lot changed for me that day . I’m still no Angel but I’m not a fool either . Anymore .
Yeah people don't realize a lot of these cops have first hand experience responding to accidents of people driving dumb and someone dying as the result, and it's probably horrible having to be the cop that has to go tell the parents in the middle of the night that their kid is now dead and let them know that they will be needing to make funeral arrangements for their child, and then having to see the parents have a breakdown because they lost their child. I can see why it's not a joke to them even if sometimes they come off like they're just being uptight. Never know if they're being "uptight" because they've been through that situation a time or 2 and don't want it to happen again.
My father was Wash State Patrol. When I got my license, (1970), he brought a bunch of 8x10 photographs of fatal accidents home and made me look thru them. It wasnt pretty. The one I remember to this day was him kneeling next to an overturned 51 buick. There was an arm sticking out from under it. Cooled down any thoughts I had of being a street racer. Might be a good thing to take some pictures like those and show them to new drivers.

Doing that PIT manoeuvre at that 100mph + speed is beyond doubt highly dangerous. There were 3 deaths in 3 separate PIT manoeuvre incidents in Arkansas in just 2 months in 2023 - all because Arkansas unlike other states does them at high speed. I'm Canadian so I am sure my story doesnt really apply on some levels as police stops here are generally fairly chill. But when I was a small child in the 80s I was playing with some other kids in a culvert while my father was at a work baseball tournament and some kid threw a giant boulder on my hand severing my pinkie finger. My dad ran out from the outfield and threw me in his 1970s muscle car and drove like 120mph towards the hospital the next town over. He gets pulled over. I clearly remember the officer being like 'wow man what the hell do you think you are doing driving like that, you are going to kill someone!!' My dad looks at me and says 'show the police officer your hand!'. I did, the cops face goes white, and then suddenly we had a police escort going nearly as fast as we were already going to the hospital. lol. They even reattached my finger xD

Okay, so I was dumb at 16 and was driving a car the previous owner had ripped the general out of and within a half hour of where this likely took place (she mentioned living near houston) there's a high way that everyone is going around 100mph on as the typical speed of traffic and I once did 164 (thankfully didn't get caught I didn't even understand how dumb it was at the time) in a 80. I didn't even realize hownscared I should of been till I'd slowed back down to the limit and realized that I was still going at a speed that would easily kill me if anything happend and I'd just been going double that. Youthful with a license can mean not registering how scary your actions are. Not trying to say this lady didn't deserve worse than a $400 fine or that I shouldn't of had any sort of repremandmant for going that fast, but I do understand being more afraid of getting shot than driving too fast

At age 17 (being superman and knowing everything of course) I was caught doing 10 2 in a 55 in my brand new car. The unmarked State Police Officer told me to get out and go get in his car, told me about a few teenage "expert" drivers that he had to scrape out of demolished cars or put in plastic baggies (because they were incinerated.)
After I stopped crying (he was actually crying himself telling me these stories) and composed myself, he said "YOU SHAKE MY HAND, get in that car and go home. Tell your Mom and Dad what happened, have your Mom or Dad call me so I know you are home safe, and this will be done." And I did.
I'll never forget how he looked relating the details of those horrible, tragic accidents.
I had a similar situation on a very fast motorcycle . 🏍️ . I expected to get reamed out but the officer asked me what would have happened if a child had stepped into the roadway ? My smartassed smirk left my face and terror set in as I realized the true reality of that possibility . I literally shook uncontrollably for about 10 minutes and never drove anything fast again in a residential area ! Ever . I also thanked the officer and told him , 1 - we need more like you and 2 - thank you for saving my life . A lot changed for me that day . I’m still no Angel but I’m not a fool either . Anymore .

Yeah people don't realize a lot of these cops have first hand experience responding to accidents of people driving dumb and someone dying as the result, and it's probably horrible having to be the cop that has to go tell the parents in the middle of the night that their kid is now dead and let them know that they will be needing to make funeral arrangements for their child, and then having to see the parents have a breakdown because they lost their child. I can see why it's not a joke to them even if sometimes they come off like they're just being uptight. My father was Wash State Patrol. When I got my license, (1970), he brought a bunch of 8x10 photographs of fatal accidents home and made me look thru them. It wasnt pretty.
