    Hi i'm a one time athlete and now blue collar physical worker.
    Complexities have stripped me a chance at Healthcare.
    There are many like me.
    What you are doing is a blessing beyond words.
    You and other channels like yours have brought me to tears through relieving stretches that I could not afford to get directed at me traditionally.
    Thank you again, though there is no way you can ever truly understand how much suffering in even just my little life you have alleviated.
    Health is wealth.
    All Gods Blessings to you and yours.

    I've been diagnosed with Trochanteric bursitis by my pain Dr in both hips but the right one is very painful & I can't sleep & now it's affecting my walking & it even sometimes feels feverish to the touch. I keep getting hip injections & they only help for a few months but my pain Dr recommended I go on here to find these exercises to strengthen that area. Well let me tell you I got relief immediately. Thank you, thank you, thank you, I have been living with this & chronic back pain & just to get this under control helps me sleep better & is helping me walk again. It was so bad that it would just wear me down & I couldn't do anything. Again thank you so much ❤️❤️for doing these videos you have helped me get rid of some unbearable pain in both hips especially the right one. Wow I am just amazed how well these helped. I was under the impression just like you said that it was tight in that area not that it needed to be strengthened. Thank you again you can't imagine how much pain I was in & these exercises you have provided gave me immediate relief.😁

    Great video. I've had hip bursitis for over 25 years but about 6 months ago it really flared up. So I started doing some of these stretches and exercises and at first I couldn't believe how weak my hip muscles were. I could barely do 5 abduction straight leg raises. After about a month the bursitis went away and except for a brief flare up (due to sleeping on it) I've been pain free. Plus my hips feel much stronger. Thanks for the video.

    After many years of de-conditioning while sitting at a desk for too many hours, I retired and started yoga and a walking program. First I aggravated my achilles walking, then my shoulders in yoga. Now I’m back to walking 2 miles per day and have aggravated my hip bursitis. Thanks for this program. It’s more comprehensive than the few exercises the dr gave me. I think I needed more targeted exercises before practicing yoga. Progress!

    You explain them so simply, that it's easy to follow. With previous PT, half the problem was being overwhelmed how each exercise was so complicated (many steps). My neck then hurt. Your step-by-step videos help! Former PT was just photos & once away from PT, I'd forget how to do them well. I'll go slow & add in planks when I feel stronger. Thanks!

    Thank you for this video. I’ve had snapping hip syndrome and hip bursitis that come and go since I was a teenage dancer. I had great PT in college that helped a ton, then developed an unrelated health condition that left me almost completely sedentary for several years. Now 28, I was able to start working again a year ago, but I’ve had a lot of weakness throughout my outer thigh and hip area throughout that time, a recurrence of the bursitis for the past couple months, and last night my hip snapped again. I’m having trouble getting back into PT for insurance reasons, and the exercises from my previous PT were apparently targeting different weaknesses than I have now. I couldn’t wait anymore to get help and I found this video and several of your exercises seem to be directly targeting my current weaknesses.
    If you have any standing exercises that also help with hip bursitis or snapping hip syndrome, I hope I can find that video too. I stand at work and that’s when I tend to be thinking of the pain and more likely to remember to do exercises.

    Hi dr. Jo! Stumbled upon this when browsing a knee video you suggested... My PT thinks I may have bursitis on both sides, that and or may be overworking the itb. I know...I'm falling apart! Haha... I actually got the pain after doing PT for a couple months doing those same exercises. Side leg raises, clam shells, etc. I was up to 30 reps per leg with 3 lb weights on the side legs and clamshells and front leg raises too. Was also doing the IT band stretch... My feeling is I overdid and boom everything got inflamed. Question is, what is there to do when the exercises/stretches that are supposed to help the pain played part in what caused it? I am so sorry to ask so many questions, but appreciate your help cleaning up the mess I've gotten into! 😀

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it's definitely an "overdid it" issue. In my humble opinion 30 reps with weights is way too much for rehab work. You can still do the same exercises, but try just doing 2 sets of 10 with no weights and go slow and controlled, and only stretching to tension, no pain.

      If you have noticeable swelling, I would continue to ice. I usually tell people heat before you stretch/exercise to help loosen up the muscles, and then ice afterwards to calm it back down.

    Thank you for the great information Doctor Jo! I’ve been having left sided hip pain and tightness off and on for about a year and was recently diagnosed with Trochanter Bursitis. Question: In your opinion, is it common to have active trigger points/muscle knots in the hip and buttocks area with this condition? I’ve been using a lacrosse ball to massage them out along the way. Any thoughts you have are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's pretty common to have the knots and trigger points because most likely you are walking differently, which works the muscles in ways they usually don't work. Do you have access to a pool?

    • @Phil-wl8cy
      @Phil-wl8cy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for the response, Doctor Jo. Yes, I do notice my walk is off a bit - I feel like I’m walking slightly on the outer edge of my left foot (which appears to be giving me some foot arch tightness & pain as a result). I’m assuming it’s all interconnected as I’ve never had these issues before and they seem to have all appeared around the same time as if it were a chain reaction. Yes, I do have access to a pool. What do you recommend?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is definitely possible that it's all related. I have several aquatic therapy videos that might help. You can check them out here: th-cam.com/play/PLPS8D21t0eO-X68fTNKk7UEkegxDqzQ3U.html

    • @Phil-wl8cy
      @Phil-wl8cy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you very much for the guidance and information. I’ve been doing the bursitis stretches & exercises, in addition to the stretches & exercises recommended in your “Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome” video (thinking this will help loosen up the tightness and pain I’m experiencing in the arch of my foot due to the abnormal walking). I’m also paying attention to the way I walk to ensure I walk correctly and I can already feel a difference. It appears everything is beginning to calm down (the muscle knots and tightness are becoming more infrequent and my foot issues are lessening as well). As a result, the chief complaint at this point is more localized at the site of the Greater Trochanteric Bursa Sac (which is also making progress). I’ll be seeing an orthopedic in the very near future and I’m hoping a cortisone injection will get me over the hump and on the road to full recovery. I will definitely check out your aquatic therapy videos and work them into my physical therapy to further strengthen the targeted muscles.
      I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to converse with me to offer your expertise, it’ appreciated more than you know and you likely don’t hear that enough in this particular forum considering how you go above and beyond out of the kindness of your heart. I’m truly humbled and grateful for your time and feedback. I’ll share any revelations as time goes by. Have a blessed day.

    Thanks for this great video, Doctor jo. A Fan from India. After being treated for Sciatica from last 5 months, I finally am sensing what I have is probably Hip Bursitis as I just cannot sit on hard surfaces, wooden desks, chairs etc. I literally carry a cushion wherever I go and I just stand if I cannot find a seat cushion-y enough to sit on it. My buttocks and some part of my back thighs and my tailbone all swell, inflame and hurt badly if I sit for too long even on a cushion-y surface. Walking makes me feel better and I have done some of these stretches in past and the pain goes away but it comes back with a vengeance as soon as i again attempt to sit on a hard surface. I was told my glutes and hip muscles are very week as I had some severe digestion issues in last one year and have lost tremendous weight (mostly muscle and water content) and my muscles are completely flat and that's what causing a hit to the buttocks when I sit coz there is no muscle to hold things in place. I have started eating right, worked on my digestive issues, eat protein everyday and walk and my symptoms go away sometimes for days at a time, only till I sit for long hours or sit on a chair without cushion. I literally cannot sit on a hard surface for evern 2-3 minutes without my pain shooting through the roof and then it takes a lot of ice packs/heat pads and rest and dry needling to come back to the stage where it becomes a 3 or 4 on a scale of 1-10. I cannot imagine my life carrying this cushion everywhere and have started losing hope on whether it'll ever go away. Could you please suggest me what my symptoms sound like to you? Any help would be much appreciated.

      Thnks a lot, I'll check the videos. My chiropractor also found out that my spine is slightly out of alignment, one leg is longer than the other and left side of the spine is elevated as compared to the left side which they try to correct. I got a full body MRI done and all they could find is slight disc bulge in L5 S1 area.
      I was told my pelvis muscles are weak and that's putting a pressure on piriformis and my physiotherapist added kegel excercises to my routine. I did everything religiously for 4-6 weeks but sitting on a hard surface is still unbearable. Does it take a long time to go away? And do I need to completely avoid sitting on a wooden desks, non-cushiony chairs etc for that duration?

    What can I say... I know Google listens to us, but I have not even mentioned to anyone about looking for a video on the IT Band.. and when I opened TH-cam there you were in a little video pointing to your hip (exactly where I have been suffering a nagging pain like a sore muscle or tender to the touch like a bruise the past couple weeks) so I decided to listen. I sent vibes to the Universe obviously! Dr. Jo I am ecstatic to have found you! You showed me every stretch I have been taught or done since my Hip Labrum tear surgery in 2015... so I am thinking I am going to jump back into daily care using your video. I didn't realize that maybe I have to do these daily the rest of my life to keep my hip(s) strong.. I am 58 and very healthy all my life, (never really exercised but I loved dancing growing up), I fell in 2012 causing later issues (Rotator Cuff repair 2013) and 3.5 yrs of misdiagnosis of my hip pain, told me it was my back. long story I walk over 1 mile a day now, I do Yoga 2X a week but I want to bring other things into the mix (I am flabby) I only weigh 120# but I need to tone up, I am studying to be a Certified Nutritional Coach and I want to walk the talk... so thank you for this AWESOME video. Is there anything you can recommend that I need to know at my age to keep myself in shape (my Core is now my main focus). Thank you!

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is pretty scary how Google can read our minds ;-) I am glad you found the video, and I hope it helps. After surgeries, we do tend to feel better, and then kind of stop our "therapy." You don't necessarily have to continue with programs every day, but I do always recommend to my patients a maintenance program of 2-3 times a week (even if it's just 5 minutes of specific exercises for your particular injury). Yes, definitely core has a lot to do with hip/pelvic area, and really the whole body, so it's a great area to focus on. Even things as simple as pelvic tilts and diaphragmatic breathing "wake up" that area.
