6 to 8 months? I wish I had been so lucky. After 30+ years in retail, and during a 6 year period doing Price Change at Home Depot where I was required to walk all over the store, climb ladders and get down on the floor, I developed Trochanteric Bursitis in my right hip. I dealt with the pain my 5th year at Home Depot until I couldn't get up off the floor after doing lower shelf price changes. I was on my knees in hardware crying like a 2 year old because of the intense pain that I could only describe as being jabbed with a hot poker between my hip and leg joint. I had never heard of bursitis before going to the ER later that day. It's manageable to some degree. I don't baby my hip or push it beyond it's limits. And my right hip can predict rain 5 days out lol. Rain and cold weather seem to make it worse, but ibuprofen or naproxen keeps me moving on the days that it acts up. Staying well hydrated helps too. I'm almost 51, diagnosed in 2015, and still going strong.

I fell out of one of my tucks at work and onto the metal steps of another truck three years ago. I have been in so much pain and find it difficult to sit and lay comfortably. I just recently started physical therapy and I am hoping that will take care of it.

Been dealing with it for 15 years. My treatment started out with anti-inflammatory medication, then physical therapy, then steroid shots. I've had two shots, the first one lasted about 2 1/2 months and the second one lasted about 6 weeks. I've tried all the stretching and strengthing exercises. Still dealing with the pain after 15 years. It limits what activities I can do. I can't imagine the freedom I would feel if the pain finally went away. UPDATE AS OF SEPTEMBER 2023: Ortho doctor said I need a full hip replacement. Said it would fix the pain permanently. I have been researching hip replacement surgery and talking with people who had it done. Will seriously consider since I am now having pain in both hips.

This scares me so much. I've had the pain for 6 months now, and got a steroid shot which helped for 2 months, but the pain is back now. I've been doing all the physio exercises assigned to me, am fairly fit and active, maintain a healthy lifestyle. But it's just not improving.

Ugh. Pretty much echoing your comment. Mine started 5 months ago (never ever had this before) 33, very fit and played sports my whole life. Went 3 months of PT/trying to return to working out. Way too much pain. Finally did an injection. 6 weeks later the pain is creeping back. I refuse to sit out from working out or activities I love again so I don't know what I'm gonna do other than constant ice, heat, recovery tools and massages and hopefully another steroid injection when my sports ortho allows it.

JR Jones; I feel ya man. Mine came about after a hip replacement. I used to work as a physical therapy aide. The best piece of equipment for bursitis is something called a TENS unit. There’s numerous videos on here about how to use it. It’s transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. It’s been a game changer for me! It breaks up the pain signals and massages the area. It feels tingly. You can use it up to 4-5 times a day. I work out extensively, so my bursitis flares up regularly. Ice and tens have been the only thing that has helped me. Also, I don’t eat inflammatory foods like sugar, dairy, meat and trans fats. My stomach cannot tolerate NSAIDS anymore either. So I had to go at it from another angle. Hope this helps and that you find relief.

@@jackiee9014 I totally understand the first thing they will say is your young and fit but with my experience push for a MRI so they can take your issue more seriously and just running alone can cause a flare up as well as walking up and down stairs, injections are good only for so long bc in the long run what they don’t tell you is the shots actually makes it worse especially if you’ve been getting them for years like myself, I’ll update my MRI results when I get them and don’t trust the X-ray bc mine never showed anything but a messed up pelvis 😂instead of the actual hip 😅

Same here, took 2years to have it confirmed, they kept saying it can’t be that it’s quite rare! Had to change jobs as was walking thousands of steps daily ( that was the cause) but still suffering years later, had the jabs, the anti inflammatorys, the physical therapy can’t lean or lay on that hip even now! There’s a definite bulge on the affected hip , It sucks, been in pain for years with it 😢

Wow this is the first real information I've gotten about my horrific left hip. 6-8 months? I wish, still suffering 6-8 YEARS.
I love crossing my left leg when sitting and will stop this immediately. I am convinced my weak abdominals and lower back pain resulted in this PAIN.
I will search for exercises to relieve the pain and strengthen the muscles that support the hip. I found the one with the tennis ball to place on my hip area and rotate against a wall and that stretching is futile. I've had a lumbar epidural which did nothing. Then a shot into my hip which was wonderful but only lasted about 45 days. I know where it originated, for years sleeping on my left side on a small sofa which restricted my movements. Now I'm paying the price.
Why hasn't my rheumatologist or pain doctor ever mentioned that I have BURSITIS which sounds much easier to resolve instead of a hip replacement! Never once has any doctors done these simple tests.

Get an Ultrasound diagnostic test of the trochanter area of the hip. Ask your doctor for a referral to an orthopaedic specialist who does Arthroscopic surgery. Specialists can remove the scar tissue from the bursa and tendons attached to the hip and femur bones. They can also surgically remove the bursa.

I'm 26 too and oof recently got several unpleasant diagnosis, from facet arthropathy, disc desiccation, left foraminal stenosis, and today learning I've got weakness in both my feet, and a numb left foot. Then I go in and get a surprise, told I've also got bilateral trochanteric bursitis and bilateral ischial bursitis. 10 years of complaints and pains, and the Doctor told me that I probably have fibromyalgia cause my sensitivity/symptoms aren't explainable. He sent me to Pain Management which I meet with soon, but he told me to avoid the cortisone injections cause something about long term it'll make things worse. When I say I feel your pain I absolutely feel. Being young with chronic pain is so horrible.

36 and I've been struggling with pain in my hips, started with the left and lower back and then moved to the right. Nothing shows on X- rays, MRIs, blood tests. Getting worse with time with flare ups and sporadic pain seizures. Tried many different types of anti inflammatory pills + muscle relaxers + steroid pills and now i am on antidepressants for a suspended fibermyalgia (but no one knows really if that's the right diagnosis) and finally took two steroid injections. It sucks to have this condition. Mentioning that i am in a good shape, i stretch and an active woman.

I've had this for a couple of years now. Started when I had shingles. The pain now is similar to that when I had shingles. The pain runs down my hip to my knee, across my lower back and into the front of my thigh, sometimes goes across my buttock. I've had several hip cortisone injections. The first one helped, this second one hasn't. I also have fibromyalgia and this is surely making my pain worse.

Its 20 days since i started this pain on right hip. The pain was caused by doing box jumps and Bulgarian split squats. I used to do this exercises every 2 to 3 times a week but before having this pain i was away from exercise for 1 month. So doing this exercises after 1 month caused me this pain. First 2 to 3 days after this exercise i couldn't walk properly could feel pain even im lying position. But after 1 week there was no pain while resting or sleeping position, could walk properly. But i thought i am recovering so started walking again and doing hip pain exercises suggested by many TH-cam doctors, I noticed pain coming back. Then again for 3- 4 daysi rested, again pain gone. But this time i thought pain is gone completely now and i have recovered, so i started walking and doing exercises like lunges and squats, and that night i felt extreme pain. But i slept and woke up with reduced pain. So since then i have stopped any activities for last 3-4 days. How long should i continue to rest and stop doing physical activities so i could recover. This video says its takes 9 months to recover. That's too much. I am 23 year old male.

Are there different forms of trochanteric bursitis? Mine has been around for a decade - started as a mild pain when getting out of the car after sitting on a long journey, but has now progressed to pain when getting up from any time seated, for the first few minutes of walking, and when lying in bed at night. I'm going to try an ultrasound guided cortisone injection because I don't tolerate oral painkillers though at night they're the only thing that really helps. I recently watched a video by a physiotherapist who advised being very careful about the type of exercises you do - ie no lateral leg raises or clam movements when lying down.

Did you have your injection done with ultrasound guidance? Surely they couldn't know where to inject if they went in blind?

It's like a broken bone and you have to fix it with your hand and it comes back again and you fix it with your hand Every single fucking minute.
I have been suffering from it for 3 years now.
I'm doing exercises to see how it goes.

I had an Xray done about a year ago which confirmed Trochanteric Bursitis. I took the steroid shot and it felt it better for a while, but it recently came back. As an active middle-aged man, I'd say it's likely from certain activities. This time however I have a pretty big rash. Is this common and is it likely due to an infection? I'd be interested in knowing how this happens.

What doctor specialty could help in diagnosing if there's an underlying (kidney?) infection causing the trochanteric bursitis, especially if on the left-side?

Question: when people have trochanteric bursitis, or perhaps any bursitis, is it common to find another place with an inflammation? Thank you

I liked all of the video except the end when you said that it can take 6 to 9 months or longer to fully recover from trochanteric bursitis. Please reduce this time! Thanks.
