When Sam used the gate numbers in the background to figure out where Ben & Adam were going that totally got me.
Ben and Adam showing the boarding pillars was a major tactical (and probably strategic) blunder. They gave Sam _far_ too much information for free.
They mentioned they hoped Sam was going to Idaho anyways, the blunder was in revealing their flight was about to leave which prompted Sam to dig deeper into potential connections. It was _tiny_ but you can't say that Sam's an idiot.
You'd think being careful around airport information would be obvious when your opponent is Sam from Wendover :P

As an Uber Driver, I can appreciate Warren. A good Uber driver that's got nowhere to be can really change your vacation if they decide it's more fun to hang around and help you get place to place XD
A 1 hour drive to the airport pays hella well and he knew they'd need another one. It was a win/win for both, taxi driver got paid 2 days worth (going off London uber rates) for 2 hours of driving.

@@taiokuno9247 I wouldn't imagine short flights like these would even bother with having first class as an option. You're only going to be on the plane for less than an hour and a half anyway.
I've had a similar "encounter" on the London tube. I jumped off the train and someone in our group said "no, next stop". Doors closed. I was right, spent an hour or so exploring X, then went back down to the platforms at a different station. Train pulled in, doors opened and there was my group that I'd headed into town with. Not just the randomness of each train on each line, I was at the right door. It happens, unfortunately wasn't a lottery ticket.

That's hilarious that you all ended up on the same flight. Sam did a great job at deducing where the other team went, just based on the possible connections. Though Montana was quite an obvious target for both teams at that point.

Sam played the game without game theory. Best Strategy in the textbook? Sure, but if your opponent also knows that's the best strategy, he might try to deny you.
Now what I'd love to see is for the Game Theory to actually play this time, imagine him actually gaming this out and making a strategy for this :D

Alright so, I love this, and had an idea: could make into a Reversi style game. Designate some four states for starting positions (KS, NE, MO, IA probably my picks) and can only claim states adjacent to those. Upon capture, opponents capture all states in between (shortest path possible to a state they already own. If a tie exists, capturers can choose which). You guys can probably think of a stopping condition so the game doesn't eat up *too* much time. Fun though, because it makes border/coastal states highly valuable (possibly some others due to the shortest path rule), and maybe also works better on east coast than connect4.

One more vote for brilliant content. This looks like a helluva lot of fun to make, and it certainly is to watch- the editing is top-notch. As an entomologist, it warmed my heart that the first challenge was to find three different bugs in Cheyenne. Awesome!

This is excellent and I look forward to the next installment, my suggestion: The Alphabet Game
The Alphabet Game, Country Edition:
This is derived from that road trip past time, the alphabet game, where you must find a word starting with each letter of the alphabet, going in order from A to Z. In the road trip version, you are just looking for words on signs or vehicles to move yourself through the alphabet, this version will be a bit different.
Each team will need to go in order from A to Z, visiting countries beginning with the corresponding letter. Much like the US States Connect Four, a country will only be rewarded if a challenge is completed at the capital of said country. Also, like US States Connect Four, no country may be repeated. This creates a few obvious problems, "O" and "Q" only have one country available and "X" has zero countries.
To get around this issue and add some strategy to the game, each team will be given 3 cheat cards. The cheat cards are as follows:
- (1) Use a state/province name in lieu of a country name.
- (1) Use a county name in lieu of a country name.
- (1) Use a municipality name in lieu of a country name.
When a card is used the team must still perform a challenge at the main government building for said place. Also, places gained from cheat cards must be in a country that has not been claimed by either team.
Well, that's my suggestion, I am sure you will get thousands of other ones, but I hope you consider mine.
There is also only one country starting with Y. But anyway, that's kinda undoable bc of the time it would take. I mean, Sam has more channels where he needs to make content

I've been watching wendover and half as interesting basically forever, but I had never seen Sam's face before. Somehow I had constructed my own idea of what he looked like, and now even after seeing his face while speaking, I still see my own imaginary guy when I just hear his voice-over. This is true for me with other face-hiding you-tubers too. It so weird... my brain just needs a picture to attach the voice to.

Awww damn I live in Boise! Luckily the airport is so easy to get in and out of, and our capital is pretty much a straight shot from the airport. You should come back sometime and explore all the beautiful mountains! Most people think of Idaho as having just potatoes, but 70% of our state is mountainous and we have the largest proportion of wilderness of any state in the country.

Adam's face when he saw Brian and Sam on the same flight to the same place to do the exact same thing just to see who could do it faster was the best thing I've ever seen.
I really think it would be interesting to make the finale feature the entire USA as potential spots but you have to connect 5. Alaska and Hawaii are able to connect to any state that borders the coast. Definitely leaves a plethora of options.
They'd be horrible options though in reality because flights there take a lot of time and are expensive. It could only be a last minute resort at most.

Fun fact: if Ben and Adam had claimed Utah this episode, they would've technically won as you can draw a straight vertical line through Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming.
(Utah & Colorado's border is not exactly straight, it jogs west slightly near Mount Peele)
I've been wondering about what constitutes a valid win. Hopefully they agreed on a map projection or a set of definite "winning lines". Idaho has a similarly weird border, and CA, UT, ID & WA could be a valid win if the line doesn't have to be completely housed within the borders of only those four states.
This is a great point/question: we didn't mention this in the video because we didn't want to get too bogged down, but it's in the fine print of the rules that you can't use border mapping anomalies to get a win. While it's technically true that you can draw a straight line between those states, that's only because of extremely slight variations in the mainly vertical border between Utah and Colorado that are only visible if you reaallly zoom in on a map. In order to make the game comprehensible for the audience (and so that both teams could relatively easily figure out what paths existed) we decided that any path to victory needed to be visible on a computer screen-sized map of the contiguous United States.

I've been using Nebula to relieve the dramatic tension at the end of each episode, find a less dramatic stopping point, then just wait for the episode to be released on YT before watching the entire thing. It has done wonders for my mental health, as I was deeply invested in the Crime Spree and this 😌

I really don't understand what they got from blocking them with Arizona when they could have blocked them at New Mexico with the same blocking value as well as a state in their lane, then they could've gotten to Montana at the same time they got to Oregon and claim that state for their final connection at the same time it would take for the other team to take Oregon. In conclusion, if they took NM instead of AZ and then taking Montana for the final state, they would've won before the other team even got 3 states.... Very stupid.
