Yes, we always referred to them as garbanzos here in Southern California then later when I was introduced to making Israeli hummus I realized chickpeas are garbanzos :) What a delicious treasure they are! Thanks for sharing the name in Portugues, too.

It could be an option to replace your regular daily bread intake (mainly wheat) which not many of us are willing to give up on. Therefore this is a sensible option to eat a healthy bread that will help you bring your sugars down; it's easy to make and delicious. Chickpeas are a grain, a vegetable protein rich in fiber and minerals, etc. Dehydrated fruits are dried in their own natural sugars, so unless you're planning on overloading the bread with it, it would be alright. Moderation is the key...
It's not like you eat a bag of raisins/ cranberries. They are a handful mixed with chickpeas that are complex carbohydrates full of protein, fiber and other vitamins.
I live in Italy in Liguria. Italians love chickpeas and use them in recipes in very creative ways. Farinata is a favorite. The recipe only uses chickpea "flour", salt, water and olive oil. It is best cooked as a torta in a wood fire oven like pizza is cooked. Very delicious.

Chickpeas have a Glycemic Index of 28 High in protein and fiber Blood sugar will rise slowly Contains calcium, potassium, B-9 I would use craisins with 50% less sugar sparingly. The fiber in the chickpeas will help to slow the digestion and not spike your blood sugar too much. Chick peas GI is even lower than lentils (GI 32) which is my go-to favorite for not raising blood sugar and getting lots of protein. I have Type-2 and am controlling my diabetes and healing my kidneys without medication. A book you might like is “Glycemic Index for Dummies”; it helped me.
