@@KitBetts-Masters I guess a better way to describe it is the double/triple flashes of the Remarkable versus the single refresh of the Boox. I guess it's the limitation of the technology - having to move ink particles versus changing RGB.
Out of curiosity I played the video at 0.25x speed. The remarkable had 5 flashes and the Boox had just 1. I wonder how this would affect people with photosensitive epilepsy.

My whole thing is that I need app or browser access for school to be able to read my textbooks and journal articles. This is where I’m at too. I need an e-ink reader that will let me do what I need for school since so many textbooks are online instead of paper now. I need the flexibility and RMPP is beautiful but too pricey for what it can’t do, as you said!

Yeh, it won’t happen. These are highly tuned focused function premium devices. It’s part of the DNA of the company to make them razor sharp in functionality. For the Remarkable 2 I saw it as very clever. Many would have that for note taking and then an iPad or computer for media and colour ingestion. This device is for those who now want to get rid of the iPad as well.

I'm still waiting on the RMPP to arrive. I THINK I may somehow be opposite to you about the flashing. Unless I'm just still in the excitement phase of the new device. When I see the selective area refreshing, it kind of tickles a part of my brain that enjoys seeing the solution to the problem. Seeing the EXACT pixels, and only the exact pixels 'quickly' refresh like that, makes me think of what's happening in the technology, and at least the idea and look of it through videos gives me a satisfying feel. When I've previously used e-ink devices I had always thought it would be good to see the screen refreshing only the pixels that need it in a competent way. I hope I still feel this way when using the device.

I have settled on using the Go 10.3 for reading, studying while using the the RMPP for note taking and writing my lessons for teaching, i have them side by side while preparing my lessons. I am teaching from the RMPP and the colors are extremely helpful to my older eyes..

The ReMarkable Paper Pro clearly has its niche - those who want a premium experience in a limited set of features. Knowing how many suffer from Attention issues in the social media world and struggle with working memory, I completely understand this. While the colours look more vibrant, besides the limited feature set, I simply couldn’t live with the colour cycling on the ReMarkable. Then my Go 10,3 got stolen the day before the RMpp was realesed. Now I have used the RMpp for almost a week and it is great. I like all the feautres of Boox, but it is a relife to not always worrying if I have the correct settings. The RM has the apps/desktop/web integration that works great. So you are saying you like an IPad with an e-ink screen? Eg a Boox device. Whereas in your earlier videos you talk about non-distraction and eye strain. Now it does seem you are saying you are “an adult”, so you don’t get distracted with notifications or lots of apps….I have an iPad that I use as an adult and an RM I use for thinking, writing, and reflecting…. I have a Boox note Air 3c. I have really tried to like it…. But in reality it’s just a bit of a dodgy iPad with a different screen. It is so complicated it doesn’t work for highlighting, note taking without lots of messing about…. I google on my iPad / phone and I read on my kindle. I have been pulled down the whole e-ink rabbit hole and I love the remarkable and have ordered the Pro… but IPad is still a powerhouse that Boox can’t really reach for me….. I know YMMV… But I am an IPad / RM guy. They both are amazing in totally different ways.

Both devices are excellent; one is a tablet with note-taking capabilities, and the other is solely for note-taking. Knocking the RM for features that it chooses not to include is odd. It really depends on the individual, but the refresh rate on videos is more noticeable than in person on the rM. When I'm using the device and concentrating on writing or reading colored notes, I don't even notice it.

I was given the ReMarkable 2 as a birthday gift last year, and have since acquired the Kindle Scribe, the Boox Tab Ultra C Pro, and a week or so ago got the ReMarkable Paper Pro. While the colors are really nice on the Paper Pro, there's not much else I love about it, and I'm thinking of returning it. The larger size feels slightly unwieldy to me. The color inking is laggy, and the screen refresh/flashing is distracting. While I do like the screen feel, I actually slightly prefer the screen feel of the ReMarkable 2. I prefer the stylus functionality from the Scribe, with its side button erase option, and I would love to see that implemented on the other tablets. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the screen feel on the Boox Tab Ultra C Pro, the colors are a bit too dull, and the grayish screen bothers me, the functionality of the Tab Ultra C Pro is light years ahead, and as a result it will probably continue to be my go-to going forward. If I could get the size and screen feel of the ReMarkable 2, the stylus functionality of the Scribe, the functionality and flexibility of the Tab Ultra C Pro, and the colors of the Paper Pro all in one tablet, I'd be a happy camper! 🤣

I know its a lot of extra cost, and the contrast of the blacks is slightly degraded, but I feel the best application for gallery (outside of signage where refresh doesnt matter) is having permanent coloured book covers on a device while sleeping.

Re2 was much smoother for things like dragging text once you put it in the selection box, I wonder how the repp does in that regard too, but as another person said, not sure it is a good upgrade from a note air 2 as the colour by not popping up lose "functionality" too, it does add some aesthethic but it seems that in the repp they can also be used.

The Paper Pro is a remarkable piece of engineering, but for those who do simply want something to replace their notebooks, I don't think that the color is worth the extra cost or the distraction (of all things) of all the flashing (that would for sure bother me). Two months in on my Go 10.3 (my first e-ink tablet), I'm just blown away how much I enjoy it. The build, the thinness, the writing, the 300dpi. To me-and I understand this is probably blasphemy to some-but the Go 10.3 is the current Remarkable 3 that, I assume, will eventually come to market. It reminds me of the Apple Vision Pro-a big amazing thing for a small number of users. The rest of the world, however, is waiting for the Apple Vision (non-Pro).*

Currently I have the Go 10.3 and I only use it to read pdf (math, physics). Although I like the device so much, I wish that the screen were a bit (or a lot) larger. Therefore, the bigger screen RMPP is very appealing. I just hope that the lower screen resolution is not so terrible for reading pdfs. By the way, I heard you said reading large pdf files feels slow on the remarkable, no?

Interesting! There is an admittedly notable difference in the colour reproduction. However, I do wonder how long (if ever) it will take to get used to the flicker after every page change. Seems to take me out of it every time.

By now I'm honestly a bit baffled by these comparisons. I've owned a Boox Note Air 3C, and it sucked! The background is incredibly grey, colours were almost indistinguishable, ghosting was insane. I had to return it. I've ordered the Paper Pro, and it might not be for me after I test it, but setting up the Boox as a great device is just... I don't understand it. And the fingerprint reader because it's a Pro device, while being stuck with an old version of Android that rarely receives security updates, it's not a nice look.

Yeah, I hear you on some of that, but I think this comparison focused on the screen technology. I've always talked about the learning curve with Boox.

Bought the boox last year too to replace my rm2 but sent it fast back again. The gosting was just too much and the lack of vibrancy, it wasnt the upgrade i hoped for so i stayed with my rm2. Im looking forward for my rmpp to be delivered =D
ah yea and i hated the latency of the boox
edit: i was hoping for fujitisus A4 gallery 3 but seems it wont happen soon thats why i setteled with the rm again

Amazing quality of the video , from the perspective of the focus - the focus is on the both devices, NA3C as well as on the RM PP, allowing to really adequately/objectively compare the displayed content/letters very precisely. This is great.
Can you please advice which camera (Gear) have you used when filming this video?

Kitt, you’re a Boox fanboy…how could you possibly look at the Boox UI and say it’s “civilized”…? The flashing doesn’t even compare to the madness of Boox devices. I’ve also never understood reviewers who pull up YT and say they wouldn’t use it but you can…what’s the point of a use case that’s hypothetical?

    • @KitBetts-Masters
      @KitBetts-Masters  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

It's just showing what can be done with the screen. It's like watching a review of a car who takes it out for a track day to show you what piece of technology you are paying for. You know that power is there, should you ever need it to get you out of trouble. Similarly, as Boox Tab Ultra C can handle video at 15fps, it can probably manage a page turn in an unobtrusive manner.
Totally agree though, that was what I was trying to get across, I was amazed by how I felt when I "went back to Boox" from the rM Pro and didn't have the jarring flashing.
Can we agree a new adjective for Boox, "cultured" UI, "comprehensive" UI... I'm open to suggestions! :-)

bottom line: you need very bright diffuse room lighting to use the rmpp comfortably without front light. there's a range of low light conditions where the week front light helps. but there's a middle gap of lighting conditions where it's hard to read compared to a brighter background B&W screen like RM2. with BOOX Kaleida 3, lighting for every condition built in.

I'm going to end up having both the Tab ultra c that I got about a year ago and the RPP that I am waiting for. My previous experience with gallery 3 (Galy) makes me a lot more chill about the flashing. So for me it comes down to a 12-in remarkable with color. It fits a different space than every Boox or Bigme I owned.
One thing to bear in mind is that the kind of things that the Boox devices do would never work well with gallery 3 barring some miracle. Gallery 3 just can't move that fast which is why it's perfectly fine on the RPP which doesn't do the things that Boox does. I can't see a way they get around it where you could ever play a video on a gallery 3 however clever you are.
For me there is no choosing between the tab ultra c and the RPP because they are such different devices.
If you want the Play store, don't buy the RPP ...how simple is that.

Seems a good product but it’s just untenable for a 600 USD tablet to be locked into an OS with no browser or a single 3rd party app. It kills it for me from the get go.

For web browsing, youtube, games, etc I use my phone. Why would I use e-ink (I have the Boox Note Air 3C) for those functions when my phone, which never leaves me, is so much better at them?

P.S. Apologies, that sounded a little too assertive. You are very welcome to use e-ink for whatever purpose your heart desires :)
In the meantime I've ordered the RMPP to replace my Boox NA3C because I only want e-ink for writing and reading PDFs.

Boox devices become more and more tablet-like now, and seems eventually it will just be another brand of tablet with eink screen. If someone really prioritizes all these rich features, why not just get an ipad air with pen.

Boox all the way for the value.
