As an avid reader I enjoyed the Kindle Paperwhite for several years. I eventually upgraded to the Scribe several months after the initial release. I have been surprised by how much I like reading on the Scribe. It is very lightweight and the user has a lot of options for lighting. I have serious arthritis in my hands now, but I don't get much, if any, hand fatigue with the Scribe. Color ink isn't important to me as a consumer so I think I will be sticking to this device for a while. Many thanks for your reviews. You're a good content creator.

I cannot believe you made a video I've been looking for! I am considering switching from Kindle Scribe to something more usable. Content management and the impossibility of making notes on the margins in every document make me insane. Amazing hardware, terrible software.

I’ve had various ereaders Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Voyage, Boox Page, and more recently a Kobo Libra Colour. For bw I really like the versatility of the Boox, but for a Colour ereader I prefer the Kobo. I tried a Boox Go 7 but the screen was too dark, and the ghosting was too much on third party apps such as Marvel unlimited.
Remarkable just announced their colour version. Paper pro. It has a gallery 3 like display but only 12ms refresh rate! It's expensive like €600

This is a really helpful breakdown, thanks! I think buying decisions have been somewhat confused by the release of the Boox Go 10.3, which seems to be a hybrid between your dedicated note-taking and all-rounder categories.
I dont have and e-ink tablet. I have e-ink reader. Original pocketbook Inkpad X, it is discontinued and replaced with pro version.
10.3 inches, only 300g weight. From the features it has temperature adjustable frontlight and touchscreen, physical buttons - that is all I need for reading. Nice thing it is optimized for side loaded content, accepts almost all formats, due to screen size is great for PDF's.
3 years ago when I purchased it, it was around 400$. And there where many reviews that for 600$ you can get so much more, a real android tablet with e-ink screen and note taking capabilities. Ink pad x is slow lacks features. I went for pure e-reader and do not regret it, less destructions and page turn speed does not slow down my reading.
Phones are packed with features and destructions. If you want destruction free reading and dont need notes, you can find pure e-reader, it will be way cheaper than note taker and usable in the dark.
I would like to get color e-book reader, but one that does not compromise black and white text quality.
I take notes on paper notebooks, for everything else I use smartphone or laptop.
What can you suggest for pure reading?

I'm glad I found this review. I was wondering about these. I'm leaning toward an Inkpad EO for reading graphic novels and taking notes, but I wanted to ask if the front led is harsh on eyes at all or if the only downside is using it in the sun. Thanks for the work you do!
My personal experience is, that front-lit devices with a reflective screen (like the InkPad Eo) are easier on the eyes, because you typically don't need to turn up the brightness as much as on a regular LCD.
Bigme color is the e-ink you are looking for, if you need an e-ink device immediately. If not, wait until next year, pretty sure there will be a lot of upgrades.
colored e-ink is okay but not that great. If I want color for writing and reading.I'll go for Oled or LCD Tablet or folding phone. Monochrome felt like you just need to focus on the purpose of the device, reading or writing.

Thanks! :) For just reading, I recommend one of the note-taking ereaders. There aren't many devices with a larger screen out there anymore that don't have pen support, so using one of those to read is probably the best solution at the moment.
Hi! What are you thoughts on this device as a planner/agenda alternative? I would like something for work that can take notes with customers while replacing my paper agenda. I also see the new A5X2 is coming out soon. Thank you
I have a Supernote. I broke it. So it's being repaired and won't be back for another week (with luck).
How does that compare? I like it.. but I feel like it could do with a better menu system. The fact its just been unlocked so you can run apps on it is a gamechanger.
I need a decent ereader for it, notes, to-do list, organise all my writing and a bunch of other useful word-based stuff.,

The selection was overwhelming, but the only reason I ended up opting for the Supernote was how involved with their community. That, by itself, told me how much they valued their clientele.

This is very helpful. I review and mark up a lot of legal documents in word / pdf format, in A4. What's my best option? I'd be happy to avoid printing versions. I dont need colour. I have a kindle paperwhite, i'm thinking i wouldnt mind reading ebooks with it, but that would be secondary. I saw in another of your video a text to speech function. That sounds very interesting.
With such diverse applications I'd say a Boox tablet with Android is the best one to suit all your needs. Just keep in mind - depending on the sensitivity of the documents - that these devices aren't especially privacy friendly.
I looking for a device for elementary students. They need it for notes/ completing worksheets, reading and in color. What is your recommendation?

Thanks for this video. I'm just undecided between boox go 10.3 especially for the minimum thickness) and the boox note air 3c ( for colors). I will use the ink tablet for the university: take notes and read and study books
You can't really go wrong with both. I short: The Boox Go 10.3 offers the more paperlike (b&w) experience without a built-in light and the Boox Note Air 3C is just a bit less paperlike because of the color display.
If you don't use colored content in your studies, I'd say go for the Go 10.3. Otherwise the Note Air 3C is a better choice for looking at colored charts etc.

Guys I really indecisive right now about what to get, I want a device that help me to boost my productivity, minimizes the chances of getting distracted and take care of my eyes. Mainly for using Notion, writting (Journal and school notes) and reading (pdf, books, online novels and manhwas).
So I don't know weather I should go for a Color Boox Tablet or buy a Samsung Tab and a simpler e-ink device like a Kobo Libra or a Boox B&W. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I have the Na3 B&w and i absolutely love it the android doesnt make it distracting u wont like using any apps on it . i only use it to easily share my files via mail and whatsapp and i think tht is great when u wana share notes quickly with someone i ve been tempted by the go 10.3 becoz it 300 ppi i m just worried if i m gona miss the frontlight but all in all the NA3 has been absolutly amazing

This video is only meant as a general overview for device types to provide a starting point. But you're right, Kindle isn't good in that department and I mention this in my full review :)
My main interest is actually whether and how I will be able to access my annotated pdfs (and notes) from my Laptop now and then. I feel like that's something that a lot of people, especially students and academics, are struggling with and that's almost never addressed in the reviews.
Any help on that? Recommended readers/tabs?
For Remarkable, they have a dedicated app for android, ios and windows to transfer files. Besides cloud service (which will cost a subscription fees after 12 months of use)
For Boox its more complicated (a usual case for boox - everything in software is complicated). You can use the USB or online with cloud servers. But is free
That's fairly easy on most, but I'd say it's the easiest on Boox. You can just copy the PDF to the computer via USB and have all your annotations in place. On the Remarkable you need to use the browser to do the same thing and on Supernote you need to export the PDF to another PDF with the annotations in place.
Boox generally has the best PDF-features imho.
Why do reviewers always focus on keyboards that connect through Bluetooth? Many of these devices allow you to connect mechanical keyboards via USB-C, which is infinitely preferable to the notoriously unreliable bluetooth.
I'd say it mostly comes down to personal preference with having less clutter in my case. Putting a bluetooth keyboard in a bag is quicker and takes a bit less space. But yeah, a wired keyboard can of course also be an option and be more reliable.

Unfortunately there aren't really any low-cost ones that allow for that. But I'd say the Boox Go 10.3 comes closest (but is still expensive).
Can I access my Google drive with any of them? I like the idea of using Google docs with an e reader

None of them via HDMI, but you can screenshare/mirror with devices like Supernote, Remarkable or Boox wirelessly.

I'd say any Boox reader is good for Android apps, because they allow to adapt the e-ink mode and also allow to adapt specific display settings. Boox Go 10.3 and Boox Note Air 3C are probably the most interesting right now.

How does Boox tab ultra c pro compare against pocketbook inkpad eo and bigme inknote X color (and any other similar devices with color, android and stylus if exists?) are any devices upcoming to this tier?
All of them aren't the easiest to use devices, but Boox is the best out of the three imho. Also in terms of feature-set, especially when it comes to PDF-handling out of the box.
Bigme has nice hardware, but their UI is too messy for my taste. Translations are also not especially good and sometimes you just get some Chinese thrown in here and there.
The PocketBook InkPad Eo is being produced by Bigme, but PocketBook changed a few things in the UI that make it MUCH more pleasant to use (better icons, better margin, moving a few things around, better translations). Small things really, but with a big impact. But they also removed features (that weren't well integrated in the first place), so the feature-set is smaller than on Bigme and Boox.
Right now I'd say the Boox Tab Ultra C Pro is the best out of the box.
No upcoming devices with Color E-Ink that I know of, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see at least one new Color E-Ink device in the 10 inch segment from Kobo (not Android).

I want a colour android eink device that I can use without back light, I am willing to use an external light if necessary but it must be readable in sunlight as well. Any recommendations!
Outdoors all E-Ink devices work great - with and without color. But indoors, I wouldn't recommend any Color E-Ink device right now if you don't want to use the frontlight. The screen technology is just too dark for that imho.

Fair point, as I was also showing the Supernote A6X2 in one shot, but I was mainly talking about 10 inch tablets.
And even though it might be a bit arbitrary on my part, but I wouldn't classify the Kobo Libra Colour as a tablet because of it's size, even though it has pen support. And on the other hand I also don't view the PocketBook InkPad Color line as tablets, because they lack pen-support.
But essentially what I really meant was tablets in the 10 inch segment. :)
For education and classrooms?
For just taking notes, Supernote or Remarkable. If you additionally need to view PDF-files, then I'd recommend going for a Boox tablet. Go 10.3 or Note Air 3 are good options.

Just for reading, I'd pick either a Kindle Scribe or Kobo Elipsa 2E. Both have excellent frontlights and great ebook functions. If you don't want to use the note taking functions, just ignore them.
Of course any smaller ereader will do just fine as well :)

If you need color in any useable shape or form just get an iPad. The colors on the e-ink are just plain UGLY. And the constant flashing drives me nuts.
Not if you just want it for work. Personally for me, I have an iPad Pro 12.9 2022 with Apple Pencil, however I don’t find the writing experience enjoyable for work so when I study new engineering concepts it doesn’t stick as well. I have been thinking about getting a remarkable paper pro purely for writing and syncing my notes to review later etc in my iPad. The colours will be great because you can now highlight an read pdfs with colour charts etc. doesn’t need to look pretty just needs to look distinguishable
