Thanks for charing! The best advice a mentor gave me with regards to PhD interviews was: "Try to enjoy it a little bit as well, because the interviewers are GENUINELY interested in YOU! They want to know who you are, what you like, and what you want for your future." I felt way more relaxed after that advice. Good luck with your PhD! 💪

But in all seriousness the work you do sounds fascinating, research amazes me just not actually conducting it haha. Huge congrats to getting into the number of schools you got into (eight schools is more than the total number of schools I’ve attended my entire life from kindergarten through graduating college). I am applying for a Ph.D. in social science for the 2022 spring 🍁. You said you wouldn't recommend applying for more than 9 universities could I ask why? And for a person like me who is not from the U.S what chances are there that I can get accepted? Are 9 Universities enough because there is always a looming fear of rejection from all those universities I applied to.

안녕하세요! 현재 한국에서 석사중이고 2021 fall 에 박사 나가려고 준비하고 있어욥....! 언제나처럼 동기부여를 받기위해 유튜브를 켰는데, 구독한 채널 맨 위에 유진님 동영상 떠서 너무 반가웠어요!!! 원서 접수도 얼마 안남아서 매우 불안한 상태인데, 감사하게도 질문을 남겨달라는 댓글을 봐서 질문남겨봐요!
Q1. 사실 한국에서만 교육을 받아봐서 미국 입시 시스템이 좀 다르다는 얘기만 들어봤는데, 혹시 박사를 준비하면서 뭐가 가장 중요하다고 생각이 되셨나요? (GRE, GPA, 연구경험, publication 질과 개수, SOP/PS, interview, contact e-mail....) 한국 입시만 해본지라 자꾸 점수에 집착하게 되서요ㅋㅋㅋ TOEFL 과 GRE...
Q2. 또 그냥 전반적인 준비 과정과 인터뷰 후기? 듣고싶어요!

I'm currently an upcoming freshman at University of Chicago and I am interested in pursuing a PHD after my undergrad( not entirely sure on what but I enjoy researching the inmune system, as well as anything blood related ). This question is more targeted as to what did you do to prepare a resume PHD worthy? I am wondering also about the application process and if there's any requirements? Lastly, what can make me look good in interviewers? Thank you!

I'm applying to my Ph.D. programs as well (7 schools) 17 is just crazy. I would love it if you could share the template or list all the factors to consider.
Good luck with your applications! Yeahhh 17 was way too many >< Mmm for the factors, I would say anything that's important to you right now (family, location, etc) and places that have research you really want to get involved in should take priority!

I would die to be this smart. It must be hard to maintain mental health in a top U.S. college, with all that pressure and competition. You deserve every single achievement, and much more
Ahhh yeah, mental health is a huge huge problem for college students in the U.S. (Especially paired with imposter syndrome!) so I want to focus on making some healing and more honest videos in the future.

원래는 in-person으로 진행되는데 아마 국가마다 regulation은 다를 듯 싶네요. 네, covid-19 때문에 해외에 대학/대학원을 다니는 게 많이 어려워졌죠 ㅠㅠ

Thank you for the video. Did you go through a GRE exam?
I did, but the GRE requirement has been abolished for a lot of life science PhD programs lately, so I would only take it if your programs require you do. I'll go over this in more detail in my next video on PhD apps!

Wow you must be really smart and have good academic record. I’m applying for phDs right now and even being called for an interview is worth a lot. I hope to get selected at atleast one of the 7 programs I applied to. So far I got 2 rejections and no updates on the other ones.

Good luck! And even if it doesn’t work out the first time, try again! Grad school’s become super competitive and results-driven, so not getting in the first time around says nothing about your potential!
NIce and sincere video. Unfortunately for we international students we need to apply for >10-15 grad schools to get 1-4 interviews and at least have options to choose.
So true :( not sure if this is helpful, but it helps if you apply for internal fellowships at the universities you’re applying to before PhD applications!
