      @Tom Tom i’ve been there and it’s really tough. Finally got out of that shell and trust me, it’s much better. You’ll have your own personality. NOT people’s opinions, but you’ll have YOUR own!!
      I’ve been seeing, during my hikikomori phase
      Here are difficulties I faced and that can help you understand the situation sooner:
      people on the internet who identify as “introverts” say that they don’t need other people to be happy, that they enjoy staying alone the most... it’s not true. It’s a lie they created themselves. We are social animals, we enjoy people’s company. Talking to people, even if very little, will lift you up like you just worked out one time and you already have a very fit body.
      You’ll notice that these “introverts” talk about their “qualities” with pride. Teenage girls mostly, talking to each other making memes on how annoying people are, and how much they love their house. and you too, if you see yourself there, even a little (and you will, even as an extrovert, because they are humans and feel like that too), will start unconsciously changing your mind to fit into the ideal “introvert”. It’s not healthy. You’ll run away from socializing when that’s what you and your body need the most.
      Actually, socializing is very important. Sure, there are annoying people out there. Those you “can’t stand”, and just want to run away. It’s a lie. You can stand them. And the more you do, the more you’ll start learning how to be patient, when to talk and when not to, and also more in peace with yourself, since, when you start not being too hard on people just because they’ll be annoying, you’ll be patient with yourself too.
      I can say something motivational to you but I know there’s a small percentage you’ll change. I myself always said to myself “I’m not gonna use my phone tomorrow” then… haha… This continued for 3 YEARS DAMN IT. Lost time, never gonna come back.

      I know exactly what you're talking about. I've been there too.
      I stayed at home all the time saying „that's just how I am, this is normal nowadays. Everyone does this, I see this on Instagram everyday. I am just an introvert.“
      my life revolved around netflix, gym, and food. I thought I was doing good without people and friends. Until I wasn't. I had this wiered feeling of missing out a huge part in my life, but I just ignorded it. I guess this whole hikikomori thing began when I was 15.
      now I am 18 and I am still struggling to get out of this bullshit which I put myself in. But it's harder now, because of this stupid pandemic and because I gratuated school in 2021.
      Since I realized I was stupid enough to cut myself out of people, I just want to go out and meet people everywhere, even though I know not everyone will wish me the best.
      Instagram manipulated me by making a trend of being not social and hating everyone. And I was an idiot and went after it pfffffff
      (Sorry for my english)

    • @rebeccamclaren97
      @rebeccamclaren97 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@christa4172 Ah I so needed to hear all of this!!!! (/see it in writing)
      I almost quit my pretty decent job recently bc of the amount of social interaction & communication required daily. I thought 'I can get a WFH job', or one where there are significantly less co-workers to deal with.
      But we do need (and, even as a shockingly quiet and shy introvert, I will say honestly, _crave_ ) the company of other people, and the only thing that will get me past the fear of them is to practise. To keep going in my career even though it's painfully awkward most of the time. To plough onwards and get all uncomfortable and to _enjoy_ the uncomfortableness, because that is where growth lies. "Comfort is the enemy of progress". I need to practice talking to people, mingling with others, asking questions and sticking around in situations (like staff meetings, social events etc) I'd normally run from.
      It's so incredibly easy to get stuck in your own head, and, like during a panic attack where you can't control your breathing and it gets faster and faster, your thoughts too can become a snowstorm of lies that you start to accept and live by.
      Also, as this video reminds us, people aren't always scary! They're humans too, and most of the time they just want you to be happy 😀

Those who fail to make the right decisions early in life end up regretting it. I guess it has become a norm to sleep less or not have a sleep schedule and if you do prioritise it, you are in a sense looked down upon and considered a 'bad student'.

    That young lady has stated it clearly, everyone has their story for being at Havard. Not all went there based on academics. Some went there because their wealthy parents have been religious donors to the institution. Others went there because they impacted their community in a (non-academic) but major way. Another lot are legacy students. Plus being a Harvard Uni student doesn't make one superhuman, they have struggles that every other mortal has. The chasm between them (Ivy-schooled students) and us is that just the name Havard alumnus can open big doors without having to prove one's worth first, which is the case for the rest of us. Companies know if you were at Havard you have been drilled to work under intense pressure and the environment ensures you must succeed in your academics as much as extra-curriculum activities.

      Hey! I just want to tell you to get it right with God Before you leave this World. God is one and great and all of us humans owe God because we have broken His laws that are carved in our hearts and known as God's ten commandments. The Bible says that there is not one good man and that everyone is condemned by God to pay the price for their sin and that is death. God is great and he is our judge he will judge us for our sin and we can not do anything about it because God can not just ignore sin. thus we all deserve death. But God he was gracious to us humans and had his son Jesus sacrificed on the cross for your and my sin so that we would not be lost and suffer in the eternal fire. It is written in the Bible: John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. so instead of you dying JESUS died on the cross he was mocked, beaten, whipped for you just for you, he could at any second call down angels to help him on the cross but no he chose to suffer for you and on that way God showed that he loved you. So turn to God and believe in him through Jesus it is the only way to eternal life with God. God also transformed me because he did disgusting things, but when I received Jesus, God began to do his work in me and thanks to the Lord I am saved. Please do not ignore this because I do not want you my sister or brother to be lost. but through Jesus there is not a single way to God for God is just he can not just forget your sin as long as nothing has paid for your sin and Jesus did. think of a court you are convicted of a punishment the judge will not remove your punishment for the good stuff you have done no he will judge you for the bad ones. but if someone pays your penalty then you are free to go. Seek the Lord. Pray with me: Lord I know I have sinned against me but I apologize and I want to be saved through the blood of Christ forgive me and guide me towards your kingdom God Amen. L

    Imagine spending 50k a year on university and not getting it done. Here in Germany we can chill and do whatever we want, but we also only spend around 650€ (around $750) a year on university. If I would spend 50k a year I would make sure I get the best grades and get it done as fast as possible

    Once you graduate, you realize that certain conversations are worth more than all of your college classes combined. Being in the company of certain people and learning from them can have a greater effect on your life than memorizing facts enough to pass a test.
    I wouldn't say degrees are totally useless but education still has a long way to go from hypotheticals to practical real-life skills that can actually make you successful.

    Harvard is a great school but studying in this kind of schools doesn’t come cheap, as a student your financial capabilities are limited to your guardians or in other case student loans. Starting up a side investment can be very helpful and would take the burdens of debts and the financial struggles of been a student away.

    I still vividly remember when I was a freshman at Princeton and taking a Japanese class where we were practising talking about time... and the ecturer went around the class and asked each person (in Japanese) how many hours they slept each night. Pretty much every one said 4 or 5 hours... So when it got to me, I was super embarrassed to confess I slept 10 hrs every night ! (And still I managed to get good grades, work part-time, go to them gym every day, go off to horse shows with the equestrian team on the weekends, and do a lot / probably too much partying).
    I think there is quite a big difference between international students vs American students. e.g. in NZ, most of us (unless we are lucky enough to have rich parents) grow up knowing that as soon as we hit 18, we're out on our own and expected to be independent. i.e. move out of home, get a job, pay rent, and - if we go to uni - to fund our studies ourselves. (usually via a student loans for most students, with only limited scholarships which are mostly for those with really good grades).
    And e.g. when we go to university, while many will spend their first year in a hall of residence, after your first your you will typically spend the rest of your studies renting privately off-campus, working 20 hrs a week to pay your rent, cooking your own food, and so on. So I think we tend to learn time-management etc at an earlier age.
    Whereas in America the whole 'college fund' thing seems to make a lot college students still be more like children who are dependent on their parents, rather than independent adults like many uni students in other countries. (That was probably one of the most surprising things for me when I ended up studying in the US ...how many college students seemed really dependent on their parents. And not just financially. Like, a lot of my classmates would even have their parents help choose the courses they took?!)

      I think you might die from a shock if you visited Europe then haha for us it seems so weird how people just leave their families when they turn 18. Especially in the South we live with our parents up until we get married lol

    • @tiger2010eve
      @tiger2010eve 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Alain816ived in the UK for a while, and it was much the same as NZ. Indeed, NZ culture of leaving home and becoming independent at 18 largely stems from our country's British heritage...If you are talking about other Countries in Europe though, then sure. I remember when I went to Greece in high school for an international maths competition, meeting students from various other European countries who went to high school till they were nearly 20?! lol.
