    Step 1 - PREPARE
Do your home work about the university, the group and the potential supervisor in advance
Look for the supervisor's most research publications
Look at his/her websites, social media and recent ongoing projects
They may have some funding - find more about it and understand where s/he is putting more work on
Look for his/her research students and group size
    Step 2 - DURING INTERVIEW
Overall, show commitment and excitement, be serious about it. be certain.
    1. Why you want to do a PhD? Commitment and Passion/motivation …not a hobby, it is career path, completely different form all others. You should stick to it no matter what. Also talk about the research.
    2. Why you want to do this PhD (programme)?
    3. Why this university?
    4. Be prepared to answer the question about the strength and weaknesses (where you know that you need support). Do not pretend you are perfect. None is. Be humble.
    5. Tell me about yourself.
    6. What are the leading group in this area?
    7. Others skills that will help you for the phd..non-academic skills (give examples, evidence)
    8. Areas of training/development? Eg programming
    9. Why should we offer this opportunity to you?
    10. Whats next?
Practice…practice, practice... ask someone to ask you the questions (mock interview at home - it is always extremely helpful even if you just do it once). You need well formulated answers. Short precise and to the point. When the question come, take a breath (take your time), and answer clearly and succinctly.
And lastly - be HONEST…the panel will eventually find out. Also, it is a 3-4-5 years course and academics are smart people, be in contact with 100s if not 1000s of students every year. They have an ability to see through and understand who is the best fit for them. They are very good recruiters.
