I was incorrect by saying Metabo bought Hitachi a company called Koki Holdings bought both Metabo and Hitachi, they named the grinder Metabo HPT, I stick by my review of this grinder though.

Hitachi Koki (part of Hitachi Group) bought Metabo GMBH in 2016.
KKR Investments bought Hitachi Koki, creating HK Holdings LTD.
HK holdings cannot use the name Hitachi, so they renamed Hitachi Power Tools to HiKoki Power Tools worldwide.
      Except in the USA.
In the USA they are Metabo HPT.
Metabo is still a different company.

You are comparing apples with oranges though when you look at Metabo and Metabo HPT though.
Honestly I think Metabo got the raw end of whatever deal was hammered out there because their brand name will come down.
I can understand them wanting to expand their market outside of europe, but you don't do that by having a rival brand using your name on their products XD

I own both German Metabo and Hitachi/Hikoki/Metabo HPT power tools and both are great quality tools. I'm not saying your opinion is not valid, but it seems like you're main concern is where its made and not how it's made. I've lived in Germany for a total of 9 years and I've seen plenty of cheap German made tools. My point is, regardless of where a product is made, it's the overall quality and features are what sets it apart. Just because it's heavy, does not mean it's heavy duty. The tightness of tolerance plays a huge role in anything that heats up, and it could be those tolerances are due to heat expansion. Yes, there are a lot of cheap Chinese made tools out there but not all of them are substandard.

I just bought the Chinese version at Lowe's for an amazing 37 bucks for my son in law for Christmas. He works at a company called East Coast Metals that makes metal roofing and other types of metal sheeting. So I figured he would have some fun cutting some metal with this unit. I was bit put of by the lower amperage but it appears it will be just fine. It also came with a 5 disc assortment. Thank you for the review. It will be fine for his first unit and will last for years. So for 37 bucks I think I did OK.

I’m going to help you out here: Super giant investment firm, KKR, bought Hitachi-Koki. Hitachi-Koki Holdings Firm changed it’s name to Koki Holdings Firm because KKR didn’t want to pay for the Hitachi name. That element is just a tax and liability shell. I have no idea if KKR set up both holding firms or if that was setup prior by Hitachi-Koki. Regardless, we can ignore that bit. I’m not aware of the history with Koki and Hitachi, but I am aware that Hitachi’s tool division has been called Hitachi-Koki for...well as far back as I can remember (which isn’t much). Branding on packaging and tool shells had deemphasized the Koki bit in recent years. Nevertheless Hitachi-Koki is the company that bought Metabo, and KKR is the company that bought Hitachi-Koki. Thus, the re-branding of the tools everywhere exceot the USA as HiKoki makes perfect sense. Here in the states, someone smoked a lot of drugs and decided to rename it to the Metabo logo with HPT tacked on it in lower case letters. Of all of the business decisions made by mankind in the history of our existence, this is the one that makes me question everything about reality.

The Chinese one is only $40 local to me here in Massachusetts and I just scored one on marketplace brand new with plastic still on the discs and in box for $20. I'm a home improvement contractor and this cheaper metabo htp is just perfect for the price where I'm not worried about burning it up. Last year doing porcelain tile jobs I went through 3 grinders! 2 dewalts and one of harbor freights "top" brands. I was furious with the dewalts! There's no excuse for them to burn up like that on some damn tile! I love Makita and Milwaukee. Now there's a few newer brands and other not new that are very good but those are my favorite for my line of work.
