Nice review. I appreciate the explanation of the various model number digit designations. I was searching for the difference between this and the WP9-115, and your vid explained that right off the bat.

Glad you commented on the zip tie. You should’ve spent time using a cut off wheel. Maybe in some difficult positions. You know actual useful review knowledge. Another IT guy doing tool reviews.

So it looks like a skukoom choocher for sure, a a jr. choocher, but skukoom for sure. I really liked the look of the field windings. It is a little hard for me to figure out the HP/Amps on your European machines, I guess you have the 220V. So would that be a 4 Amp tool then?

I hardly ever see experienced angle grinder users actually using a spanner wrench for angle grinders unless the disc has gotten really stuck. Instead it's enough to first hand tighten the nut and then just push down the locking mechanism and fully tighten the nut by grabbing the edge of the disc and turn it until the nut sits tight. You can loosen the nut this way again without the spanner.

Thanks for the tip. I'm definitely not an experienced angle grinder user. I'm more used to workwooking power tools like routers where you always have to tighten the collet down.

You gain that "experience" quite quickly when you start out with a cheap angle grinder where one of the poorly riveted pins of the spanner just rip out ;) . Had to knock that disk loose with a hammer and a screw driver since no other spanner fit the holes. I never used a spanner since then and always hand tightened. I never had a cutting disc tighten so much that I couldn't open it by hand. The only time I somtimes need tools to get a disc off are grinding discs for concrete that have been on for a long time. But even then a few taps with the handle of a screwdriver were enough to loosen it enough to be opened by hand. Only once did I have to resort to the more brutal "hammer+screwdriver" method.
Btw. that is pretty much what Metabo is now marketing as their "Quick" release. Tighten by hand and whack in the spindle lock while the disc is spinning down to loosen the nut. Has been done that way for decades by the "pros" ;) (although I wouldn't recommend using the spindle lock to stop a disc if it isn't built for that)

Almost all Metabos use the Quick system these days. No tools required

The first thing I did when I got a quick nut is flick it into my toolbox and put a normal nut on.

It would be helpful if you would weigh tools like a hand held grinder, or at least comment on the weight.
I'm really interested in using an angle grinder to sharpen tools like shovels, hoes, axes, etc. I'd like to know if this would be practical, and if a variable speed grinder would be better. I'll be buying a metabo based on reviews, but I don't want the extra weight of the variable speed if really doesn't help sharpening. Low speed does allow use of diamond for carbide, tile, and stone, but I don't know how much I'll be doing that.

Could I safely assume the Metabo W9-115 at $49 is roughly the same tool as the W9-115 Quick at $89 minus the quick change? Is that really worth the extra $40 considering the entire tool retails at $49?

Just returned a Dewalt 402 angle grinder, wasn't brilliant made, think bosch was better made, considering the metabo 750, ffx doing it at £32, great deal, or a Bosch 750 for £40.

  • @baynoli1

How this compared to entry level of Bosch and Makita.

    • @jamesf9610

oli ylo metabo is professional level tools. They are built outstanding to last a very very long time. Having said that unless you are going to use this 8 plus hours a day every day I would suggest the makita which is very close in quality to be metabo at half the price. So using a metabo as a professional grinder that's your job you do all day every day or a makita ever now and then as the occasion arise that you need to grind something they would hold up about the same.

So is this particular model you using made in China or Germany?

    • @GermanToolReviews

The one I have is made in Germany, but it seems like more and more of their stuff is made elsewhere ever since they were bought by Hitatchi.

Thanks for watching! I don't really have a huge power tool collection but found this one one sale so I picked it up.
Yeah I couldn't find any videos of anyone doing a teardown on one of these. I guess they were probably afraid of voiding their warranty.

I just bought the much more expensive WEPBA 17-125 Quick grinder and the packaging was exactly the same (minus the spanner). Also have the WEPBA 26-230 Quick version and packaging was again the same (just a lot bigger).

      hi.. which should i prefer : hilti ag115-8d or this metab0 w9-125 quick for a safe,smooth grinding?

    • @jamesf9610
      @jamesf9610 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

gürbüz Ergen Hilti makes fantastic tools but when it comes to a grinder when I think top of the line I think metabo pretty sure a lot would agree. However if you are not a professional grinder and do it all day the makita is also a great grinder at half the price.
