Past: Heading to the party with your friends in the car and you put on some music to set the party mood. You all got the best outfits you could find with the best hairstyles that fit your fit. You all are ready for a good time. You park the car not too near the party so the cops don't connect you to the party, just in case. You finally arrive at the party and open the doors.
Present: You and your friends enter the party and are having a good time dancing, drinking, and singing the night away. Someone caught your eye, so you approach them and talk for a bit, getting to know one another, dancing to a few songs. A slow dance song starts to play. You are about to ask them to dance when...
Bad Future: Red and blue flashing lights are seen outside the windows, along with the infamous police siren. People panic and scramble to any nearby exits. Without saying a word, you grab your dance partner's hand and dash to an exit. You both escape the house party, but now are rushing to your car. You are able to meet up with the rest of your friends along the way and all enter the car. With the twist of the keys, the engine roars to life. Without a second of hesitation, you hit the gas and head for the highway, everyone hoping the cops aren't following. You think leaving for the closest highway stop outside the city would be for the best, so you head for the outskirts.
Good Future: After driving for a while and stopping at a gas station for a break, gas, and snacks, you are outside city limits, heading into the dark outskirt streets. Except it isn't dark. Without light pollution and clouds, you see something incredible. The vast array of stars of the Universe, illuminating the night sky. For a moment, you feel like are driving on the highway of the Universe. Parking the car, you all exit and head for a large hill. Up on top of the hill, you can see the beauty of the infinite cosmos. Everyone decides to start their own party right here. Hearing that, you take out your phone and play a song. The same slow dance song that was starting to play at the party. Without another word, you and your partner dance the night away, the light of a billion stars shining down.
Fun fact:the music from the Past versions does not use all the Sega CD sound chip, but instead uses the RF5C exclusively
Actually, that's wrong! It actually uses a sound chip more in line with the SNES' sound chip! 8 channel sampled audio.
They had space to make the music on the mega cd hardware but didn’t which I’m happy about
The Sega CD has a built in secondary sound chip, that's what it uses for the Past themes

Theres the possibility of betas existing for all of the past songs but in higher quality. We only have palmictree panic as of right now

okay so apparently it's on a separate chip that's pretty much identical to the one used on the genesis (or maybe it is just the one used for the genesis) but even then that's still really cool
The Past tracks are actually played by the Genesis itself, rather than the SEGA CD.
This is also why only the Past tracks are consistent between JP and US - they're physically harder to replace.

The type of funk in the JPN OST will never be in a US version of a Sonic game. Americans, rather, the majority demographic, have no rhythm and can't appreciate this soundtrack, which is why you have a "funked down"/lame version for the US soundtrack.

this video....thanks to this video I fell in love with sonic cd and the sonic franchise in general, this video was recommended to me by youtube at a time when I had some emotional problems, little desire to fight, mild depression, but when I clicked to this video, God, Sonic CD made me see the world with different eyes, it didn't solve all my problems but it gave me more strength to continue, thanks to this single video it made me stronger as a person and now in the Nowadays I am a totally different person than I was before, thanks to a video I saw years ago of a compilation of Sonic CD music with memes....

Man, it has been SO LONG since I have heard this game's soundtrack! I never played the original Sega CD version, since I wasn't alive back then, but I absolutely loved this game when I used to play it on my tablet!
There's also that early version of Palmtree Panic Past that someone found in one of the betas that's called Salad Plain and it was in proper CD quality unlike the final version, it sounds really nice.

The song “Little Planet” was supposed to be used for the game’s second stage, Dubious Depths.
The "Crush That Sucker To Death" in the boss fight theme in jp is amazing
1:52 the first time I heard this song in the game, it warmed my heart, like a reward after you defeated that metal sonic hologram and the robot generators.
I love how all the "Past" stage themes are MIDI sequences that use the Genesis sound chip, rather than MP3's burned to the CD like all the other tracks. Makes them sound so off, different, yet right at the same time for what they were.
