    In this video I show you how to play Final Fantasy 1 on the NES. This guide is intended for new comers or those who've tried this game but never completed it. I'll explain the story progression and strategies as I play through my favorite NES RPG. It's not a spoiler free guide so keep that in mind. I hope you enjoy this introductory chapter 1!

    Exactly the video I was looking for! I’ve been a FF fan since 2015, but have never even touched FF1 before and thought the NES classic would be the perfect way to experience the start of one of my favorite franchises. Thanks for the upload! c:

      Awesome! I geared this video towards people who aren't familiar with the ens version. It's really fun!

    1:42 that's my #1 favorite party!
    The Fighter gets good hp, the best weapons, and the best armor. Promoted, you get Dragon Armor and Xcalibur, otherwise without promotion you tie with the Red Mage for the best weapon at the Sun Sword (years ago I used to think the Red Mage needed to be promoted to use the special swords you can't buy like the Flame Sword, Ice Sword, and Sun Sword, but I knew the Red Mage could use the Silver Sword). Also the Knight gets Ruse, Cure, Alit, and Afir, but no Aice, so only gets up to level 3 white magic, but can't learn all the magic.
    The Black Belt is weak at the beginning, but with levels becomes the best damage dealer since he gets double the normal attacks unarmed. Promoted, due to a bug in the game, you get less magic defense, so it's better to be left unpromoted, but I always promote if I use a full party.
    The White Mage is terrible with physical hits unless you give her the Masamune, then she's decent, but her main thing is healing, which helps restore health for survivability. Promoted, she gets Curaga, Life2, and Fade, making her even more useful. She also gets Thor's Hammer, but late game is better used as an item for Lit2 than it is for melee since Temper and the Power Glove (Sabre) are both bugged and don't give damage boosts.
    The Black Mage gets the multi target damaging spells to sweep most groups in one turn, which speeds the game up tremendously, and is terrible with physical attacks unless you get the Cat Claw promoted or the Masamune, then is decent! Promoted, he gets the Nuke spell, which is the only useful level 8 black magic spell since everything else doesn't work often on the enemies in Temple of Fiends Revisited (either resists or high magic defense), and the other 3 level 8 black magic spells are instant death to either one enemy or the whole group (XXXX only works if the enemy is under 300hp, but then Nuke would have a chance to wipe out that HP in one casting, so why bother.)
    The Thief is good at running away, and is terrible at everything else (best weapon Sabre for Astos which is not good for him since he has 40 absorb, otherwise Rune Blade and Coral and Dragon Swords, Silver Ring for armor about mid game, no spells.) Promoted, the Ninja gets to wear Fighter equipment, and can equip Ice and Flame Shields. The Ninja also gets the Katana, which is slightly better than the Sun Sword with 1 more damage and same hit rate, and perhaps a better critical hit chance. The Ninja gets all black magic levels 1 to 4, but the level 1 magic is useless for the Ninja by the time he can learn them (Sleep is bugged and only works one turn, Lock 1 is bugged and does nothing), so really the only spell you want is Fast since the Red and Black Mages can use Fir2 and Lit2 and Ice2, and you get items later on that cast them too.
    The Red Mage is my favorite character, being the Jack of all Trades, Master of none. You get Fighter weapons up to the Sun Sword, and Chain Armor to start and eventally you get Silver Mail (the only class that gets benefit out of it). The Red Mage gets up to level 5 spells, both black and white magic, and with spells like Cur3 (no group healing spells even as a Red Wizard unfortunately), Lit2, Fir2, Ice2, Fast, Cur2, Slow, Slo2, and Fir3, you get good use out of the Red Mage. Promoted, the Red Wizard doesn't get a better weapon, and can't wear any Knight armor, and only gets level 6 and level 7 black and white magic, but the spells are limited like Exit, Warp (lv5), Lit3, and Ice3. Still useful, but if it were me, I would give the Red Wizard up to Hel2 for group healing (bugged, heals as much as Hel3), and Fade (not as powerful as Nuke to keep the Jack of all Trades, master of none saying true.)

    I’m trying to get into this game. Of course I don’t have the guide that came with it. I do have the pdf off the internet and I’ll be watching your videos over and over again to help teach me the dos and don’ts about the game.

      My video will be all you need. The biggest hurdle for newcomers playing this game is getting your characters up to level 7-8. The beginning of the game is a grind but once you get level 3 magic and have enough stock of heals and pures, the game starts to move along nicely! Not sure how far you've made it in my videos or my play through, but you'll notice that I play the game as if I've never played it before, meaning I talk to everyone and build up my clues as I go. Good luck, any questions just leave a comment on the videos. Hope they help!

    I think you under-rated Red Mage but this is a well made video!

    • @goldenogregames
      @goldenogregames  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Red mage is an overall good character. His weakness comes at the end game if he's your primary magic user since he can't use some really amazing useful magic above level 7, but a fighter red white black party is super strong, grant it a grinding nightmare in the early game if you want all that expensive level 3 and 4 magic.

      A big problem with the original game is its bugs.
      Int stat is not important (doesn't buff damage of spells or increase spell charges), so the best mage is the red one PERIOD. He gets better armor, weapons, and is versatile in the beginning and middle game.
      The complaint: he is weak sauce endgame... well he has less spell options (true), but spells are less important in late game (items can be used instead, for free) because they are less effective on bosses. For example, chaos is resistant to time elemental (the most efficient/effective damage type) as well as all others. But red can equip endgame weapons, has more health than black (white has hp), gets all the good spells (cur 1-3, fast, FIL 1-3, life1, exit, mute, hold) and the remaining are hit or miss (or worse, foes have a family resistance, for example undead -> ice, rub, bane, brak, slep, stun).
      Damage dealers (monk is the best endgame, low dps in the beginning) (fighter is best tank, but most of the time he is poisoned, stunned, dead, or stoned because of "on-hit effects" or rub/xxxx spells) are the best endgame damage for boss fights. Use fast, inv2 (white shirt), fog2, ruse (defense sw.) and you can survive most bosses.
      Exception: Astos (rub), Eye (xxxx/rub) -> no pro-ring protection early, *pray mute connects* or early crit for high damage.
      wizard (hits hard, levels needed), vampire -> dps race early in marsh cave, earth cave
      Kary (requires mute, slow, slep, spells), kraken (hits 8x, need fog2/inv2 to increase survival %), tiamat (hits hard with melee/breaths, party needs ribbon/aegis)
      Warmech (mini-boss with nuclear/256 atk power, high first strike %)
      Thief/ninja (if you like running, he can do it) is a minor dps, gets fast spell, katana endgame, equips most weapons/armor (support member)
      Worst foe to fight: sorcerer (has death touch "on-hit effect") because there is no defense (armor), trance (stun aoe), and mud golem (has fast) make them hit more often.
      Other foes are annoying because they have low risk/reward benefit, take a lot of time to beat, or have spells that force healing after the fight (draining resources).

    I never bother with early game armor for white and black mages. You lose just as much evade as you gain absorb, and the absorb gain is almost nothing.
    So for me, not worth it until armlets become available.
    They're cheap, though, and either way leaves you about the same. So you're no worse off either way.

    • @goldenogregames

      True. Kind of like equipping the knife over the staff for black mage... but the staff does 8 damage and kills while the knife does about 6 at level 1. Sometimes it makes a difference but most of the game, the makes are pretty much wearing wet paper bags lol

      Yup! There are some small differences like names, the location of the silver(mythril)sword and the psp has extra stuff but the mainline story is intact.

    Going to try this game on the NES Classic... WHen you start the game you go to the store and start buying weapons... But how do you know what to buy for what character. You explain what weapon is good for the type but this does not seem to be explained in the game ?! Was this documented in the documentation of the original game ? Or did you just found out with trail and error ?

    • @goldenogregames
      @goldenogregames  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The original game came with a mini guide thhat also included a world map, and enemy guide that fully explains everything up to a good portion of the game. Final Fantasy is primitive so it didn't have enough memory to tell you which weapons are for who but Nintendo was very generous inside there manuals. Here's a PDF you can download to experience the game like it's 1989.

      Enjoy! Any questions feel free to ask!

      I grew up with this game as a kid. Lots of trial and error, and a little common sense.
