I love the mental image of a guy wearing a full suit of armor, with smaller full suits of armor on his head and each hand, and wielding one as a shield
In the pixel remaster, i went to become adult, get the slab in the water temple, cleared tiamat before Kraken then went on to kill Marilith , and in the pixel remaster their intro sentence acknowledge if you have beaten the other fiend (marilith stated that i had beaten the fiend of earth water and wind)
After doing everything in order on my very first run of the game when it released on the NES, I have always beaten Marilith last after that. Even now (I still replay this one 1-2x each year) I get the canoe, then the airship, and then I beat Tiamat, followed by Kraken (takes a little backtracking and the upper floors of the Sea Shrine, but eh), and the I beat Marilith. I find that a much more enjoyable experience personally.
Fantastic video! So much effort put into this. Just FYI, certain items glitched onto a character's shield slot can cause the game to crash if the character tries to block an enemy in battle. It doesn't happen for every item, but it is something to keep in mind. Save often. Also, you can get a Leather Cap to glitch into a Judgment Staff before the first Chaos fight in the Shrine.
I normally break sequence in this one by getting the class upgrade before going to the volcano, which I do by getting the airship. You can take this a step further by taking the pirate ship to the citadel of trials, but you still need the airship to see Bahamut.
This is how I did it. Get canoe, go to ice cave, get float thing, get airship, go to castle of ordeal, get tail, go to bahamut. Takes a lot of running and re-loading (especially on the harder games) but it was super fun to do 3\4" of the game with class upgrades
Ah yes, my first RPG, but not the first one I ever completed. No, I was young when this first came out, and hadn't gotten the hang of the concept of Grinding yet. And as such, the Marsh Cave stonewalled me for the longest time. Then came (IV) and it's Lodestone Cave, which again stonewalled me for years until I realized that only metal armor and weapons were effected, and I needed to slum it with low level gear. It wasn't until (VI) that I completed a Final Fantasy game during the era of it's release. I finally beat FFIV on the PSP, and the first game on original NES hardware out of pure spite during the Wii era. So basically, my Arch Nemesis in this series is the Dark Elf.
The Magnetic Cave is one of my favorite segments in any FF game because it does force you back to basics. You have to be a little more resourceful (since FF4 isn't exactly lauded for its difficulty). Tellah has practically all the spells that matter, but a garbage MP pool, so you have to be sparing. Cecil's role is challenged most of all, and I really thought it was cool that your leader and heavily-armored tank needed to hang back and use his limited white magic to keep everyone going since his armor and sword were useless in your item bag.
Probably one of my greatest gaming achievements was doing the solo Warrior/Knight challenge on the PS1 version (on Normal Mode where your lvl cap is only 50). It took some trial and error and some luck with using weapons as items for things like Cure and Temper, but it was a really fun playthrough. Pretty sure I still have the save file on my Vita. Curious if it's still possible in the Pixel Remaster.
I’ve run single monk time to perfect stats, using equipment and weapons that had special effects. Only thing I wore was a ribbon and pro cape, practically nothing could touch me short of magic attacks and I hit for I think 16 hits before blink and the other attack boost. It was fun.
I liked the gba version cuz it had something similar to what we have now for mp, but the psp version is best for me, as it's magic system is something similar to dnd
I’ve played this game so much as kid back in the early 90’s that I know it by heart now. It’s definitely a fun game. I like to choose a warrior , thief, black mage and white mage.
FF2 is the one where you get OP in a legitimate manner, with clever use of game mechanics. in this video its all about exploiting glitches in the coding. most FF games have some sort of way to really powerful fairly early on if you put in the effort. Like in FF6, once you get to the returners hideout, and reach the waterway behind it, the second checkpoint is a literal infinite loop. if you have cursor set to memory, a small clothing button, and a rubber band. you can set it to automatically choose the loop over and over against, use the button to press down controller button, and rubber band it in place. then just let it play overnight. When you wake up, your characters will be around Lv 80 but to get to 99 it will require a full day. You think, great three characters to Lv 99. Nope, the way the game works is, all characters you havent met, their levels are dependent on your current level of your party. So If they are Lv 99, any new party members are as well. Meaning you power leveled nearly every single character in the game before you met them, except Locke, whom you met but is away due to story beats.
I know you said you wanna do things in order but you can do all this before the earth crystal too. You just need to do everything RIGHT up to the Lich fight, like kill the vampire, then turn around and head out and you can fully explore the world and do the shrines in reverse order (you need to at least start the water shrine like you said though). But you don't need to wait to the fire crystal. The Lich can be the last demon you face.
In the PSP version, you can get items that permanently boost stats so you could max your stats out. It just wouldn't really do much good outside of maybe Strength and Agility for the mages. Also, for that added layer of invincibility, the fixed encounter at the end of the Citadel of Trials against Dragon Zombies has chance to drop Megalixirs. Very rarely but at least you can fight them over and over again instantly.
Are you fucking serious ? Mannnnnn I WAS JUST THERE!!! ummm excuse me i forgot which continent its on mind telling little old me I know i was just there but that was last week and I am bad with names plus my brain size the size of my PP extremely small.
Dang. This is amazing. I tried something like this before but I started getting the Advanced Classes at around Level 23. Also I didn't know about the Equipment Glitch back then and I learned about it about a year ago. As time passed by I forgot about the grinding lol Amazing video!
I was in the impression that you had to go to Bahamut with the lowest level possible to upgrade the classes as soon as to be able to max stats in the end. Great video. After all those years I have forgotten this glitch!
funnily enough, in the original version its actualy detremental to get to the class change early if you had a monk in your party, as the monk, as the ONLY class, ACTUALY gets worse upgraded, everything remains the same except a single hidden stat(i think its called magic ressistance or something) having a worse growth as a Master(or whatever the advanced Class of monk is called) making the monk more and more gimmped in that regard the earlier you class changed into master and the higher your level went
The first version of FF I've ever played was FF1 of Dawn of souls, I personally loved making my party, Warrior, Monk, White mage, and Black mage. Monks can do some insane damage with buffs like haste later in the game usable with the black mage and the Giant's gauntlets, I've killed the final boss in a couple hits like that, Also don't bother with spells like Null frost because it will always miss later in the game due to wearing anti status affect equipment like the protect ring and the ribbon.
The perfect stat growth is the main reason why I never attempted to perfect save FFI, as of yet. I have the PS1 version, where it caps at LV 50, so that cuts the time down. But still... This and the enemy drops in FF4 are just two big hurdles I'm not willing to deal with. I might actually Gameshark those in, if I really want to have them... I didn't know about the equipment upgrade glitch. That's pretty cool. I need to go experiment with that, now.
oh man when you said "even further" i was let down that you didnt say beyond. but then you got the reference in anyways with a picture lol made my day. you got my like
Also my favorite FF9 song. and i also love that ff9 has versions of the ff1 music as well as the 4 fiends. Must be a version of Final Fantasy where the warrior of light lose, which in turn cause everything to then happen. Garland being a bit different not being Chaos but creating it.
Have played FF I, finished it twice, went on to the optional dungeons of the "Dawn of Souls" version. Completed most of them (I think all except one, on which I died on the last boss and did not want to do it all over again).
Have you ever thought about doing a 'how over powered can you get before yaschas massiff in final fantasy 13-2' This would actually be alot easier as you can take a separate time gate and go to sunleth waterscape then from there you can go to Archylte steppe and there is great ways to get tons of cp plus some of the best monster companions in the game are there also you can easily get really strong weapons from ochu and immortal ... I think it would be really great to see you do this but it's only a suggestion
I loved the early inventory glitches that were in the first few FF. My justification for “cheating” is grinding gets old quick….but I still love it! I both hate & love the grind, just as I hate & love myself
To me primal you are a legend, never let someone tell you anything bad, love your work mate, i hope you will keep on growing in this unforgivong job that is youtube, get overpowered and beat the algorithmes
Played FF1 on the Origins compilation on PSX back in the day. Always named the party after other major characters in the series. That equipment glitch is absolutely wild. Good stuff Primal.
I like that you do these type of videos. A lot of folks want to speed through. I don't mind doing things early if I'm not supposed to be there, but OP parties take a bit of work but we earned it.
I had this game as a kid, but the OG cartridge on NES. I recall doing the all WM challenge just to see if I could when I was like 11 or 12. This was before the internet it was just something I wanted to see if I could do (I’m 40 years old now, for reference). I would love to see you find a method to get overpowered early on the original game. Also, charges instead of mp is a huge difference.
Not only that, but only 99 of the base potions and items. Plus, a lot of spells were completely useless because they didn't work in the original game. Also, the level cap was something else entirely, too.
The 'peninsula of power' is about the only real way to get OP early in the original, as far as I'm aware. And you can do that before you even get the ship. Other than that, you can get the airship before Kary (Marilith) and get your class promotions just the same as here, but there are no Phoenix Downs and the Life spell can only be used outside of battle, so the Ice Cave and Castle of Ordeals are a lot more dangerous. Not to mention the extremely limited spell slots. Alternately to the PoP, in the Earth Cave there's an arm on the western side of the first floor that has nothing but giant and iguana encounters, up to two of each per fight, so you don't have to worry about ice wolves.
Being a 26 year old who has been playing final fantasy since I was about 9 or 10, I used to own a NES with Final Fantasy 1. Best paycheck I ever spent!
What I liked about ff1 was the difficulty level. You had to plan your potions and heals in the dungeons. You could only explore so far before having to head back to heal and save. Games today heal you after every battle and auto save. There's no tactical play anymore.
I've always found this to be quite the exaggeration for people talking about the NES and PS1 versions. They aren't hard at all, they just REQUIRE you to grind, and thus really pad out the play time. Cross the next bridge to the next area, find out the enemies can kill you in 3 hits, so you go back and grind until your max HP is high enough that you can take at least 5 or 6 hits before moving on. That's not challenging, that's just artificial lengthening of an otherwise short game, lol. Even more so required on the NES original, where there are so many broken mechanics, you have to compensate with stats for things not working correctly.
I dont know if this is a fantastic coincidence but the very first time I played and beat the game I also picked two warriors, a red mage, and a white mage. Weird.
I got super op before the Fire Cavern not because I wanted to, but because I forgot where the hell it was located and how to get there so I just kept levelling up until I found it. The dungeon ended up being super easy because of that lol (Warrior, Thief, Black Mage and White Mage). And yes, Warrior is super busted in this game, extremely powerful.
Before the Fire Crystal? You can get insanely powerful. Especially if you visit Bahamut and get the class change. The Thief post class change becomes an insane damage machine. I find it superior to the Warrior/Knight. I played this game back on the NES, it is what got me into playing RPGs.
Ninja is strictly inferior to Knight in terms of damage and defenses and EQUAL in speed, but the _difference_ between a non-upgraded Thief and an upgraded Ninja is way more than that between a Fighter and a Knight. Like a Fighter starts at 80 and goes to 100, a Thief starts at 50 and goes to 85 or 90 and the coolness factor of having a ninja is worth it for most people; having a second Fighter instead of a Thief is a safer and more reliable play, but more aesthetic team diversity is cooler. I can buy the cool factor of the ninja making it _feel_ superior to the Warrior/Knight. Glad you enjoy it.
I always wanted to play the main FF series but never had the time or motivation enough to do so, that until I got to know the RetroAchievements site and such :D I'm about to finish FF2 J, then heading for the 3 J. I feel like I need 10 hours more of grinding to be done. I was really confused with the FF2 stats system and your OP video helped me a lot. Glad to see more content like this :D much love from Costa Rica ❤️
It was the first time we had it in Europe. I actually bought FF VI when it came out for the very first time in Europe because of the demo it came with for Final Fantasy X
I just bought the Pixel Remaster bundle for the Switch and I'm VERY excited to play the first six Final Fantasy games for the first time. This guide is about to be tested for sure!
RIP the early game store keeper who's just been forced to borrow his nation's gdp in order to purchase duplicates of a really expensive armour that none of his customers will be able to afford!
An FF2 Overpowered video would be quite something. I used to try and create a "perfect" save where I had 99 of all items and the absolute best equipment. I was also looking to max out all weapon and spell levels but eventually abandoned the project. Don't know if my old save is still around anywhere. EDIT: Nevermind, just saw that you already made an FF2 one a while ago!
It's weird how in older Final Fantasy games especially how the magical classes had soooooo much variety in skills, yet the physical classes have basically attack and that's it.
Magic was quite limited depending on the casters level, and class. So it was something to have to budget between save points / Inns / tents. Now, magic users were great to get high damage attacks against vulnerabilities, and to also boost resistsnces against elemental damage from primarily bosses. But for most fights, you would have them doing mop-up physical attacks after the melee tanks did the heavy lifting. Also, the Masamune was able to be equipped by any class, and boosted attack insanely high. Usually was best to throw that on the white mage. And melee characters weren't always boring with just swinging melee weapons. They had the option of using spare gear like an item (infinite use) as a weaker spell than a caster (example, Zeus gauntlet casted a weaker version of Lightning2). But only a small amount of weapons and armor functioned this way. This wasn't actually explained by anything in game, you just had to figure it out. But the Black Belt was definitely the worst, and most useless melee character ever.
I'm currently playing FF1 for the very first time. I only ever played FF7 before that. It's very fun and my age and the pixels don't detract from my enjoyment at all. Though I ever played anything prior to FF7 before, I did grow up with pixel games. I played Pokemon Red and Blue after all. Never played anything with worse graphics. Maybe that's why I don't care too much about graphics and more about the story and gameplay. Because I'm used to it after all.
As someone who's first game ever was Final Fantasy 1, you should have used a thief instead of two warriors. Thieves get more attacks per turn much faster than anyone else does. Yes, they're limited to light weapons, but that means waaayyy more crits. Edit: Wouldn't have mattered once you got *Flare*.
Hmmm... in my first play through (YEARS AGO) I didn't grind much, as a matter of fact, my first play through was when Final Fantasy was released, I was one of the first people to submit a picture of me defeating Chaos to Nintendo Power... but I digress, since that initial playthrough, I always went for the Earth Crystal, then The Water Crystal, the Wind Crystal then Fire Crystal, because the treasures in the Fire Crystal area were outclassed by everything else, so it was always last.
Heh, given you can do the Water, Air, and Fire Crystals in any order, you can get max level and best equipment for your characters before Fire Crystal, so this is a ridiculous question.
Nice to see this is possible on the latest versions of FF1. Barbarian sword being a labyrinth of time item. So I could mess around with this on my psp version
@@Vexal50 can't call Pixel remaster a 'latest version' personally since it doesn't have ANY of the extra content. To me the Anniversary editions with the Labyrinth of Time is the latest version. Pixel remaster is essentially a downgrade in content
@@craigfunk3453 its still a new version of the game, with new bugfixes and fixing oversights such as the power peninsula, they even went back to charges for spells for FF1 and 3 instead of MP, despite still rebalancing the game

So, go find the old 8 Bit Theatre Final Fantasy comic.

Ordeal
Ice cavern
Airship
Buy ocular

Being a 26 year old who has been playing final fantasy since I was about 9 or 10, I used to own a NES with Final Fantasy 1. Best paycheck I ever spent!
its been so long since an overpowered video. welcome back
“Ecripment squeen.” I couldn’t help but lol at that.
For real, though - great vid!
😁
It'd be great to see a showcase of how OP you are against the next boss in the story or whatever :)
Yeah I was hoping to watch him just stomp some bosses real quick.
What I liked about ff1 was the difficulty level. You had to plan your potions and heals in the dungeons. You could only explore so far before having to head back to heal and save. Games today heal you after every battle and auto save. There's no tactical play anymore.
FF1 was brutally difficult compared to other FF titles yea and its a shame we dont have anything like it anymore
Final Fantasy was, unironically, the first one I played on my mom's PSP back in 2010.
I played the Dawn of Souls FF1 and FF2 games, and loved every fucking second of it. even my All White Mage run
I been playin FF games since the early 90s and never once thought about doing this in FF1.
Not only did i play it once but ive played it so so so many times. Any challenge you can name. I did it. Love this game
One of the few video series where I will drop everything to watch.
Final Fantasy 1 on java phone was my first discovery of Final Fantasy
Played on GBA. I remember sitting in class in college when i beat Chaos on my gba sp
It was almost like you NEEDED TO KILL CHAOS.
It's back! Love your Overpowered videos man, I've used at least 3 of your OP videos! Totally love it, keep it up :D
Before the Fire Crystal? You can get insanely powerful. Especially if you visit Bahamut and get the class change. The Thief post class change becomes an insane damage machine. I find it superior to the Warrior/Knight.
I played this game back on the NES, it is what got me into playing RPGs.
Yup. This and Dragon Warrior. I actually made it to the end of Ultima Exodus which was a freaking feat in itself.
Same..Dragon warrior put me on the path but FF showed me the way
Ninja is strictly inferior to Knight in terms of damage and defenses and EQUAL in speed, but the _difference_ between a non-upgraded Thief and an upgraded Ninja is way more than that between a Fighter and a Knight.
Played FF1 on the NES in 1990!!! Loved it then, love it now.
Scratches that itch when I'm short on time for the grind. Love it
Played this on my Grandfather’s NES. First I owned was Mystic Quest.
Man...the fact that you said you played this on your grandfathers NES just made me feel old as eff!!! lol
I always wanted to play the main FF series but never had the time or motivation enough to do so, that until I got to know the RetroAchievements site and such :D
I'm about to finish FF2 J, then heading for the 3 J. I feel like I need 10 hours more of grinding to be done. I was really confused with the FF2 stats system and your OP video helped me a lot. Glad to see more content like this :D much love from Costa Rica ❤️
Hope you enjoy it!
I finally beat this gem with a Red Wizard, Knight, Black Wizard, and White Wizard. I beat it on the……iPad, lol.
Played through the Orginial NES version, the Origins PSX version, and the Apple iOS release, but I'm old enough I grew up with it.
I think you can make your team even stronger, dont use the barbarian sword, but the orichalcum
I played the PS1 Version that came together with FF2
It was the first time we had it in Europe. I actually bought FF VI when it came out for the very first time in Europe because of the demo it came with for Final Fantasy X
I just bought the Pixel Remaster bundle for the Switch and I'm VERY excited to play the first six Final Fantasy games for the first time. This guide is about to be tested for sure!
You get the armor glitch to work? I can't on PS5
@@Alucard5715 I've been trying for a while now with no success.
@@DungForever Damn.. how dare they patch their game like this lol oh well, we grind on lol
Still love going back to where it all began
I'm currently playing this too! Playing the psp version as well. This is interesting to see while I'm halfway through.
If I am the boss, I would be terrified to see 4 dudes wearing 4 layered heavy armors with menacing weapons
Never played the game. Pumped to watch the video
I've played it since it was originally released and beat it multiple times with nearly every party arrangement.
Dude these videos must take a long time to make. I absolutely love em n show em to peeps. Thanks n keep up the awesome work.
I’m bout to use this as a guide to beat this damn game
Btw the hyenas drop strength seeds that permanently increase your strength in case you want another grind method!

These vids make me want to replay these games, great vid
hmm, im thinking "Gigas Hall" might be mentioned here.
EDIT: well i was wrong, so very wrong LOL, nice video :)
I didn't know the equipment exploit existed! Wow I need to beat this game again!
Great work man, your passion for grinding in JRPG's is simply the best
I played FFI back in high school on GBA, my team was exactly the same as this video. :)
This comment is for the master of the grind may he beat the last boss - and slay the algorithm
It's weird how in older Final Fantasy games especially how the magical classes had soooooo much variety in skills, yet the physical classes have basically attack and that's it.
alot of limitations in gaming back then after all and the genre was still fresh
Which version of ff1 is this? Looks really good.
PSP/Steam.
@@osurpless Thanks. I started playing and man are there a lot of encounters. I don't remember it being that bad.
Love your videos man been wanting to find a channel like you
Replaying FF1 Now. Watching this video on a break, it’s crazy I knew none of these things.
Hi! Love the videos! Do you have a video for then PC/Steamdeck version?
I don’t think this works on that version.
Thank you for the content
FF1 and Mario were my first games in NES when I was a kid
Hmmm... in my first play through (YEARS AGO) I didn't grind much, as a matter of fact, my first play through was when Final Fantasy was released, I was one of the first people to submit a picture of me defeating Chaos to Nintendo Power... but I digress, since that initial playthrough, I always went for the Earth Crystal, then The Water Crystal, the Wind Crystal then Fire Crystal, because the treasures in the Fire Crystal area were outclassed by everything else, so it was always last.
Heh, given you can do the Water, Air, and Fire Crystals in any order, you can get max level and best equipment for your characters before Fire Crystal, so this is a ridiculous question.
Such a classic. Thanks for making these videos.
My pleasure!
I played it at launch and still have my original cart!
Well done as always!
Nice to see this is possible on the latest versions of FF1. Barbarian sword being a labyrinth of time item. So I could mess around with this on my psp version
He's playing the PSP's Anniversary Version, not the pixel remaster.
Love all the final fantasy games beat most of them. Love your videos.
