      Thanks for watching and commenting - as you probably know by now I think that the marketing department at AKG should be slapped because I find their naming conventions confusing. Actually I don't think they have consistent naming conventions. I'm working on a Triton Audio FetHead video, soon after that I will likely make another AKG vid about the c1000s, c2000b, c3000, c4000b family.

      @@redcabinacoustic-official Thank You for your reply. I'll be watching both videos as i think triton FetHead works fantstic with the sm7b and other mics.I think my best AKG purchase is the s3000 Black with green Stripe that is stamped Austria at the bottom with 3 red switches on the back. never selling that mic. It's from the early 90's from what the previous owner said. Wanted to get the AKG 420 but I am leaning towards Lewitt 440Pure as it sounds better from what I heard.

      @@QuantumGamingUploads I think you saw my comment yesterday . . . 440 is likely better and $100 more new, (depending on where you live). The 420 has been around for a long time and you could pick one up for cheap. The 100, 200, 220 sound very similar. Although if you want the different polar patterns a used 420 is a bargain, if you want just cardioid, a AKG 220 a more similar comparison. Not trying to talk you out of a Lewitt, they are great!

      @@redcabinacoustic-official Hi yes just Cardioid will do it for me. Ill keep an eye out for the 220 see If I can find one used. I'll think about Lewitt in the future. Thanks for the info and your help yesterday and in these comments.

    Such a useful clip. Again your voice has a lot of bass ( in a good way, really ). You don't mention sensitivity, nor list it in the specs.... these LDC are a bit more sensitive than the LDCs right ? ( within the P series ) Thanks again. Bravo

      Thanks again! The P series, (black versions), is more sensitive than the Perception Series AND all have better self noise specifications, BUT both of these measurements may not matter depending on your source, room, etc. I plan to review the c1000s, c2000b, c3000, and c4000b series. I also have a mic being repaired - when it gets back I will do a comparison of common "stick" mics.

    Are all P-series using the same guts? In other words, is the mod the same by changing out one capacitor? I have only seen the p420 modded. ty

      Thanks for watching and commenting! The Perception 120 has an electret capsule and the P120 has an externally biased capsule, so those circuits are different. That doesn't mean it can't be done, but the circuits are different. Here is a good discussion you may have seen - groupdiy.com/threads/akg-perception-p220-to-neumann-u87-5-min-mod-p200-p100-p400-p420.67473/ - I have found I can get the sound I want by using a multi-band compressor, but may mod one of mine soon just to try it, but I intend to install a switch so I can use either cap. The nice things about the multi-band compressor is that I can match it to the source; a very popular de-esser BTW. I should make a video about that . . . Capsule swaps are also popular for this model, but for the money really a good mic. Let me know how it goes. peace

      @@redcabinacoustic-official That's what I was thinking. I am going to run it through an old Art compressor and even Warm's ToneBeast and see or hear what it produces sound wise. What multi-band Compressor are you using, if you don't mind me asking? Thanks for the link. The p420 is a solid mic. Due to the weight of it, I plan on running/bolting an extension arm from the ceiling beam. TY

    @red cabin acoustic hey - you keep mentioning that the newer black P range is more sensitive and less noisy... is there more info on this? all i've heard and can imagine is, that they are now cheaper and china made. Would appreciate an answer as i'm really struglging to find expertise on how the black AKGs compare to the light blue AKG's also in terms of longevity THX

    • @redcabinacoustic-official
      @redcabinacoustic-official  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @rumdrunk - first of all, thanks for watching and commenting. 1. I am trusting the provided specs on the sensitivity and noise performance. I have original data sheets for these mics and came to this conclusion by comparing them. As I said in the video the noise performance is slightly better with the newer "P" mics. This could be achieved by better components or changes in circuit design, or both. 2. They are less expensive because they are made in China; labor is a huge cost in manufacturing. This does not mean that these mics are less good than their predecessors. To be clear, these have always been made and marketed as good quality, home and "project studio" microphones. AKG has many "better" mics to choose from. AKG has and still maintains that these mics are made to the same standards as their European cousins. MORE BELOW It seems that some folks confuse and/or conflate "Made in China" with garbage; not true. Up until recently much of Apple was made in China. I'm typing this on a 2012 MacBook Pro BTW. I have compared the components, performance, and PCBs of AKG mics made in Austria, Europe, and China, and can find no differences. TO BE HONEST! I share your concerns and tend to shop American and/or European when I can. There are MANY really cheap AKG Perception Series mics bought and sold on Guitar Center and other sites every day. I buy used often. I have AKG mics that date back to the 80's. Did you see my vid on the c1000s? Hope this helps - peace.

      @rumdrunk - just bought a used AKG Perception 100 for $39.99 - not much of a risk . . . peace
