      Thanks for watching and commenting . . . I'm not looking at my notes but I do believe the capsules are very similar, but the c4000b has a double sided capsule and the electronics are obviously different, tube vs solid state. I don't have a SoliTube, but it's on my list. I do have a RØDE NTK . . . I just checked my notes . . . the serial number for the SoliTube capsule is 2512Z0003, which is different than that of the c4000b - 2512M9904. Maybe the SoliTube capsule is the one-sided version of a similar capsule? peace

I only mention this to encourage all to expand their skill sets . . . I have seen and heard a variety of mic mods and the results vary greatly. I don't do them often, but have been planning to "upgrade" an MXL 990. Why? I got it for almost nothing and want to see if I can make it better. The only mic I like better reproduction-wise for spoken voice in a similar setting is the LS-208. Thanks for watching and commenting - I hope to re-review the FetHead Filter this week with more info - I only use digital when I have too. With balanced lines I have no delay AND I don't need to involve IT. LOL Up until recently I had direct lines from city hall across town - to broadcast city council meetings and other events - Worked perfectly for over 40 years.

      @@redcabinacoustic-official you can use them to run analog audio too as long as they're shielded. And they have a lot greater transmission/distance before loss because cat6 is designed to carry more bytes of data. I believe it also can be used to transmit digital formats like DMX MUX and AES so it's pretty versatile.

      @@bassface84 - oh yeah. I do and have used cat5/5e/6 to run audio and video in the past, but I generally have a soldering iron close by, I don't often have my networking tools close by - I don't do enough of that day in and day out. AND I'm old and a bit old fashioned. My other issue is that I have gear that spans brand new to vintage, so it really depends on the install. Great idea though, I'd love to engineer a brand new install . . . peace

    @red cabin acoustic hey - you keep mentioning that the newer black P range is more sensitive and less noisy... is there more info on this? all i've heard and can imagine is, that they are now cheaper and china made. Would appreciate an answer as i'm really struglging to find expertise on how the black AKGs compare to the light blue AKG's also in terms of longevity THX

    • @redcabinacoustic-official
      @redcabinacoustic-official 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @rumdrunk - first of all, thanks for watching and commenting. 1. I am trusting the provided specs on the sensitivity and noise performance. I have original data sheets for these mics and came to this conclusion by comparing them. As I said in the video the noise performance is slightly better with the newer "P" mics. This could be achieved by better components or changes in circuit design, or both. 2. They are less expensive because they are made in China; labor is a huge cost in manufacturing. This does not mean that these mics are less good than their predecessors. To be clear, these have always been made and marketed as good quality, home and "project studio" microphones. AKG has many "better" mics to choose from. AKG has and still maintains that these mics are made to the same standards as their European cousins. MORE BELOW It seems that some folks confuse and/or conflate "Made in China" with garbage; not true. Up until recently much of Apple was made in China. I'm typing this on a 2012 MacBook Pro BTW. I have compared the components, performance, and PCBs of AKG mics made in Austria, Europe, and China, and can find no differences. TO BE HONEST! I share your concerns and tend to shop American and/or European when I can. There are MANY really cheap AKG Perception Series mics bought and sold on Guitar Center and other sites every day. I buy used often. I have AKG mics that date back to the 80's. Did you see my vid on the c1000s? Hope this helps - peace.

    I have 3 of the C 1000s mark IV' . i use them in a home studio setup. i think they're really good and versatile . one of them makes a thumping sound now and is unuseable. too expensive to fix. i would not buy used ones in the future and would encourage anyone to use these in a home studio. if you're only using at the home studio level they are great in my opinion.

      They were really above average when they were introduced, but like many products they have been surpassed by other building on their concepts. The RØDE M3 and NT3 are good mics in the same style.

    Recently I've been assembling a simple recording setup for original songs and narration, with hope of using my trusty old EV N/DYM 257, 357 and 457 (circa 1987). The Tascam DR-10X seemed like the ticket but the levels were low when connected directly to the mic(s), even with the Tascam set for HI input (noisy). Just today I took delivery of a Fethead and an Xvive P1 Phantom Power Supply. Set the DR-10X for LO with a 2nd recovery track -12dB down and recorded a soft song (voice and classical guitar) with the mic 18" away. The main take clipped hard and the -12dB backup take peaked at -5.3dB. The wave form in Reaper looked like someone hammered it with a hard limiter to get the signal down to -5.3dB. It's a clean take - noiseless. But way hot. Wondering if a -10 or -15dB pad would calm it down, or if anyone makes a lower gain FetHead like device? All those I've seen look to be in the +28dB range. Wondering also if neodymium mics are just hotter than ferrous? Most examples I see with a Fethead are SM7B or SM57 mics. I'm also perplexed because I'm a soft-spoken baritone and never expected to blow out a recording like that.

      @@ilblues - I get it, I too am in my 7th decade and as soon as I retire I will become more of a minimalist. The issue is likely the lack of headroom with the digital recorder, a common problem with simple digital recorders. Both Shure and Triton Audio make inline attenuators, the Shure A15AS is switchable. The Shure MVX2u would probably solve all your problems, (or other similar less expensive inline interfaces). Good Luck and let me know if you find a solution you like.

    Great stuff. The Filter version was a bit of a mystery to me. Just got one order, as some of my mics do not have a bass roll-off, making them a bit too boomy when using Cranborne Audio's Camden preamps, causing clipping on an otherwise well gain-staged setup due to inexperienced talent getting too close to my mics. I'm sub 427 now. 👍

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I am working on a "Stick Mic" vid comparing the other mics with this basic configuration, (onboard battery or phantom power). They used to be very useful going directly into remote tape decks or other without phantom. My film students will often use the c1000s on battery with a ZOOM H2N for quick and dirty field recording or SFX gathering.
