Nice video. I just got one a couple days ago with 55 lbs thrust. Used it twice and love it!!! I'm still trying to figure out if I can use cruise control (set a certain speed) and auto pilot at the same time.
Absolutely! I record my track at a high speed (typically 10) then after you re-establish yourself back on it either back where you just finished or if you manually go back to the beginning you can activate the auto pilot and then use any speed you like. I couldn't swear to it but I think when you activate it initially the motor will use the speed you recorded it on (in my case 10) but you can immediately decrease your speed as you would in any other situation appropriate for what you are doing and it should have no effect on the auto pilot.
Great first name Evan👌 The home button ….not sure how often people use it. The up and down lock system….is that function really needed? Do you really use the course tracking device with your trolling motor when your Nav system will do a better job. They don’t work the greatest in wind or chop. I need to invest in a power pole I believe, I agree completely that they would probably be a better solution for shallows. My powerdrive is not connected to my nav but I imagine that it is not used frequently by those who do have theirs connected. I personally haven't had an issue out of mine on windy days but that said the boat sits pretty low on the water and is already relatively light so the motor doesn't have to fight as hard as it would if it were on something with a larger profile.
you can also deploy trolling mtr with shaft stop raised and record ur route with outboard to save juice and time but it has to be deployed to operate i set my stop so troll motor is out of the water and haul but recording the loosen stop so it goes in water and start fishing back were u came from on course great video
Thank you! I have mine on a Lowe 1860CC. I would be interested to know how well it works on a larger model like yours, I have been considering getting a bigger boat lately.
I just got the terrova 80 ipilot. Works amazing... although going in a straight line down the canal is difficult... the motor veers to one side. Do you have to hit the check mark when you adjust setting in autopilot?
What model is the powerdrive? What batteries do you use and how does it affect them? Like do you run out of battery quickly? How is your battery/electronics setup? I just got a tracker pro 170 and looking to set it up nice.
You can use the remote and the foot controller at the same time. My left turn on my remote quit working so I hooked up the foot controller just to turn left but it all worked on both controls except the left turn on My remote
I haven't been able to find anything under around $1,300 that has i-pilot. The $800 model doesn't have i-pilot. If it did I would buy one! If you know of an $800 unit that has i-pilot please let me know!
You didn’t cover how to shut down the remote control..? Is it always hot does it keep drawing on the 3 batteries inside? I did a v2 conversion to I pilot kit install per directions but my motor is not coming on but it beeps when power is connected hand held remote just says motor not found. Calling Dealer Monday , My V2 has the digital charge maximizer on it different than yours? Thanks happy easter!
To shut off the remote you push and hold the checkmark button for three or four seconds and "shutting down" will appear on the screen. It sounds to me like the motor is no longer paired to the remote. There is a set and sequence of buttons that can be pushed to unpair and re-pair the remote and motor but they are different based on which remote you have.
Evan, I have the same TM, and wondering if yours makes a beeping noise every time it makes an adjustment on autopilot or spotlock? Wasn't sure if this is normal operation or if it can be turned off.
Nice video! One short question. Did the spotlock function a really good job? I read something like this that the boat are not holding the position. Reason-> missing Sensor on the other side from the boat.
It keeps me within about three feet of where I engage it, my only complaint it that the boat will sometimes rotate around the spot which isn't a huge issue for me but if you are dealing with current from one direction and wind from another it can lead to a lot of circles being made.
Gman from Texas It allows your motor to go directly to a waypoint you have saved through your iPilot system. It’s really nice of you are doing a stop and go style fishing down a relatively straight bank.
Mine isn't too loud but it is defiantly noticeable. I don't know if I said it in the video but I prefer to use it with a slight wind or current just so the motor is always running at a lower power setting. That keeps the motor from turning as much as it does in anchor mode in still water.

As far as frequently making adjustments it just depends on what I am doing and what the weather conditions are, when it is windy it requires more attention bus so to other models, overall I am highly satisfied.
Evan I just got the same trolling motor. On my aluminum Tracker I can’t get access to put a nut under the screws. Where you able to? I’m wondering if self tapping screws with no nut would hold the motor
Gman from Texas I’m sure it would be sufficient. If you are using the quick detach mount (usually sold separately) I personally do what you are talking about with some beefy self taps and maybe throw an extra one or two in the middle section just for extra piece of mind.
Gman from Texas Actually after thinking on it a bit I think what you mentioned would be just fine but I’m attaching a ling to an anchor bolt package available at Lowe’s. You might consider this if it fits the application you are trying to fill. This is just a random size but i would look for these at the store in person to make sure the one I got would be strong enough. 12-Pack 3-in x 0.25-in Zinc-Plated Steel Light-Duty All-Purpose Anchor with Screws www.lowes.com/pd/Blue-Hawk-12-Pack-3-in-x-0-25-in-Zinc-Plated-Steel-Light-Duty-All-Purpose-Anchor-with-Screws/1000103083
That would be a Terrova Model, Powerdrive models only allow either or, you can have both but you must disconnect the pedal to use the remote and at that point it becomes a hassle to try and make that work.
There is plenty of room to mount it on there, I personally mounted mine on the hull itself just because the cable would be difficult to manage with the way the motor is deployed and retrieved but I am also much more picky about that sort of thing than most people, it should work there just fine.
Why does every powerdrive video on youtube have the trolling motor already deployed when starting the video? The 1 question I had was does this motor deploy hands free? Can I just launch it, pull my trailer out of the water and hit spot lock or do I have to manually deploy this model?
@@evanmattingly7234 To this point, have you ever used the anchor lock from the shore? I was thinking you could launch the boat, lower the shaft, exit on dock, remote away from the dock, then anchor.

If you are in anchor mode and you press the anchor mode button again it will only release the boat from its current position. When I am ready to move on from wherever I am set up in anchor mode I personally kick it out by pointing the head in the direction I want to go and hitting the propeller button which will re-engage the motor at the last speed setting before you entered anchor mode.

You can set a heading and record a path for later retrieving using the trolling motor independently. If you want navigation features like setting waypoints on a map for the motor to then take you to then the motor would need to be connected to your navigation system. You would be very surprised at all of the things that the Powerdrive with iPilot acting alone can do though, I personally do not have mine hooked up to an external navigation system and it works great for me.
I have the same trolling motor, came factory on my boat I bought new last year, only without Ipilot. Can I purchase just the Ipilot system, and install it on the Powerdrive trolling motor? If so, are all features still available? ......Great video by the way :) Thank you.
Thank You and Yes! They make a kit for them that allows to add it and it does add all of the features just like I pilot from the factory. I believe as long as it’s 2007 or newer is should be good to go!
Great video sir, thanks for taking the time to post it- one question: with a powerdrive 1200$ motor can I record and rerun the track or do I need a “heading sensor” or does it already come with that tech built into the head of the unit? Again, many thanks !!
I'm actually looking at getting a boat a lot like yours very soon. I think from your other video, you are running a 12v trolling system. What's your runtime? Do you ever get low on juice or wish you went you went 24v for windy days?
ghost38901 I can typically get a full day (8 hours) without any loss of power at all actually. That being said I primarily fish lakes so it’s not really fighting much of a current. I have run out out a couple of times on super windy days when it is having to run at almost full power and change directions all day. On days like that it only lasted about 4 or 5 hours so there is a real effect by the wind. Personally I never had the need to do a 24v system the only reason I would even consider that is if I were going to be fishing rivers or traveling and doing overnight or multiple trips out without the capability to recharge.
@@evanmattingly7234 ok thanks for the info. I'm torn on which way to go. I'm more of a river rat. I like to jug fish a lot, run throw lines and just anchor down and rod and reel for big cats. Even if I had a 24v system I'd still use a actual anchor instead of spot locking. Pretty much the only time I could see me using the trolling motor in the river is to either run throw lines by myself or chasing jugs down but even then in most cases while chasing jugs I'm going with the current not against it.
Great video, thanks just ordered kit to upgrade mine. One question, when you installed it, did you have to configure the iplot to tell it which way to point fwd in relation to keel. I had to do something similar with older Auto Pilot few years ago.
@@evanmattingly7234 I should be more clear, does the unit know if when it's going fwd that the keel is parallel with it. I read external heading sensor maybe required.
Thanks for your informative video. Is there any way to operate this trolling motor manually , without the remote control (and lacking the foot peddle) ? I am asking in case, while out on the water, the remote is damaged or lost overboard? If not , ideas on what with the trolling motor if that happened ? Appreciate your thoughts and hope this question isn’t too ignorant lol .
I appreciate your feedback! I am pretty bad with batteries in general so I have had my remote batteries die on me out on the lake before. There is an app you can download and pair to the motor that gives you all of the same features of the remote right from your phone. I personally like the remote better for everyday use but the app is a great backup.
You power it on and off using the checkmark button. To power it on you only have to press the button and to power it off you push and hold the same button.
Not that I know of. I never used one myself and used the heading feature. To my knowledge those are for older models that previously weren’t enabled to track headings.
I have only ever heard that they are not compatible. I had a problem of using the lanyard that comes with the remote and would end up taking it off in the house when I got home and would end up forgetting it the next day. I looked into getting a foot peddle for when that happened but all the research I did said I would be wasting money. I ended up getting the ipilot app for my iPhone and using it in those situations. The app is far from perfect but functions the same way the remote does so it works well enough for me.
The pace is on a 1-10 scale adjustable by .5 per each up or down click of the appropriate button. The speed and as a result the distance of each setting is dependent on the size of your boat.
The Powerdrive with iPilot is the cheapest one I have personal experience with and it is fantastic. Ive used a couple of the ocean models with the same feature before also and they work just as well. That being the case I would say any product that is equipped with iPilot would be a good choice. I know Motorguide has a similar option available on their "xi" series of products and they seem to run in the ball park of $700/$750 but I've never used them personally.
You are right, I didn't include it because I was trying to hold the camera in one hand and launching and retrieving are both two handed actions. I will try to get that into a future video. I appreciate the feedback!
They are supposed to come paired from the factory, you can also pair the app on your phone to the motor and use that as a remote if its more convenient. When you open up the app it walks you through the set up step by step.

Great informative video man! I have what looks to be the exact same boat (even the same camo pattern) lol but I’ve been looking at this trolling motor I fish the Mississippi River with some serious current I was wondering if you’ve ever tried to go against current in yours and how does it do
The Bounty Hunter TV Unfortunately not ive been pretty much exclusively on lakes so far. I can tell you it holds well in some pretty serious wind and wake both I’ve been very surprised. Anything over 20 mph sustained wind and you might start to drift a bit but at that point it’s probably not the best overall condition to be on the water anyway.
Evan- I’m looking to install the same trolling motor on my 1860. What hardware did you use to secure the bracket to the bow? From what I can see there is no access to the underside, so bolts are out of the question. Thank you!
I actually removed the bracket that holds the outlet for the trolling motor and was able to reach in there and get some bolts on it. The quick connect plate came with some self tap metal screws but they were complete junk I twisted two of them off so I ended up just drilling holes and running some standard screws and bolts from Lowes through there.
@@evanmattingly7234 I'm looking at getting the quick mount plate but wondered how secure it would be. I sure don't want the entire thing going into the lake. Also can it be locked so someone doesn't come along and "quick steal" the motor? Thank you.
It depends on what you mean by locked. I have had mine freeze up once before and I just popped the batteries out and back in and that fixed it completely. Beyond that I know they can be re-paired to the motor if the problem continues.
Hello, I wish that I could, unfortunately my Spanish is very bad. Learning the language is a bucket list item for me so hopefully I can remake the video in Spanish or at least add proper sub-titles in the near future.
You cant add it to V1. You can change the control board inside to a powerdrive v2 and then buy the ipilot module for the v2. The model he has is a newer powerdrive with the ipilot already bundled.
You can add it to V1 and V2 models, I ordered the kit from northern marine to upgrade my 15 year old unit, have to replace the main board too but its 1/3 price of new.

ghost38901 I can typically get a full day (8 hours) without any loss of power at all actually.
I just aim it manually each time. I don’t know how clearly it shows up in the video but mine is actually slightly offset to one side.
There is an iPilot app for your phone.
@@TheTomahawkTech on this app can I plot a course?
I appreciate your feedback! I am pretty bad with batteries in general so I have had my remote batteries die on me out on the lake before. There is an app you can download and pair to the motor that gives you all of the same features of the remote right from your phone. I personally like the remote better for everyday use but the app is a great backup.
You can use the course feature that would be available to you on the remote but you cannot use it as a map and drop waypoints unfortunately.
I'm still trying to figure out where the on/off switch is
You power it on and off using the checkmark button. To power it on you only have to press the button and to power it off you push and hold the same button.
I just bought this. Do I need the heading sensor?
Not that I know of. I never used one myself and used the heading feature. To my knowledge those are for older models that previously weren’t enabled to track headings.

Ok..
Thank you
Is it possible to use a terrova foot control with a power drive ipilot I’ve heard it’s not compatible
Can you also use a foot pedal?
What is the model of the trolling motor?
Does this have the jog option to.move 5 foot each click
The pace is on a 1-10 scale adjustable by .5 per each up or down click of the appropriate button. The speed and as a result the distance of each setting is dependent on the size of your boat.
Is it possible to record your track being moved by the main gasoline engine and then activate the electric engine and reiterate the track with it?
Yes! Someone actually suggested that to me as a comment on the video as well so I gave it a try and that is my new preferred way of doing it.
@@evanmattingly7234 Thank you, it is valuable information.
Where did you Mount puck?
It was an internal component on this model.
I'm looking to upgrade my trolling motor to something that has an Anchor feature. What do you recommend? What's the cheapest one?
The Powerdrive with iPilot is the cheapest one I have personal experience with and it is fantastic. Ive used a couple of the ocean models with the same feature before also and they work just as well. That being the case I would say any product that is equipped with iPilot would be a good choice. I know Motorguide has a similar option available on their "xi" series of products and they seem to run in the ball park of $700/$750 but I've never used them personally.
Do you need the minn kota co pilot to get the I pilot on the powerdrive?
Nope, as long as you get the powerdrive model that is equipped with iPilot is is completely self contained.
Darn good video Evan. Very informative and interesting. Is it a 12 or 24 volt system?
Any calibration required?
Showing the deployment and removal would have been nice
You are right, I didn't include it because I was trying to hold the camera in one hand and launching and retrieving are both two handed actions. I will try to get that into a future video. I appreciate the feedback!
He showed you how to do it are you that dang petty get off your butt and learn it yourself
How do you connect the remote to the trolling motor
They are supposed to come paired from the factory, you can also pair the app on your phone to the motor and use that as a remote if its more convenient. When you open up the app it walks you through the set up step by step.
Hi is it a 55 test pound ?
And the gps is inside the motor?
Thx
Yes mine is 55lb thrust and yes the transponder for the gps is in the head on the top unit.
rick going to launch boat from dock note people waiting for my spot .I am by myself I need to move boat away and take it away from dock with remote and have it set to a area and lock it at that spot while i go park my truck ????can any one run me thru this NEW TO System yet no one starts move it out from the dock {{ reverse]] setting on trolling motor to make an set it to stay in one position until i return and have come back to board.. Respectfully
Do you have the blue tooth head sensor
I do. Its that way from the factory on mine though I think you might be able to get them after the fact and add them.
Evan Mattingly awesome thank you!
Evan-
I’m looking to install the same trolling motor on my 1860.
Thank you.
I just got one of these and when I turn it on and try to go past 3 1/2 speed it just shuts off and says “motor not found” any help?
Is your power wire heavy enough
Good video, thanks Evan.
I appreciate the feedback! I hope it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. Helpful
Which exact model is this motor ?
Minn Kota 1358744
What all models offer auto deploy
Powerdrive models do not, I couldn't swear to it but I believe that's a feature you start getting into with the Terrova models.
what LB thrust did you get? 55 or 70?
I send with the 55 personally it was plenty for my Lowe1860CC
Dose it come with a pedel
What’s the difference in this and the ultrex. Thanks
It’s called google
@@joerob3449 😂😂😂
My remote is locked do you know how to unlock it ?
It depends on what you mean by locked. I have had mine freeze up once before and I just popped the batteries out and back in and that fixed it completely. Beyond that I know they can be re-paired to the motor if the problem continues.
@@evanmattingly7234 thanks that was 6 months ago
I hit a switch by mistake
Hola esta explicación del funcionamiento en español por favor.......
Hello, I wish that I could, unfortunately my Spanish is very bad. Learning the language is a bucket list item for me so hopefully I can remake the video in Spanish or at least add proper sub-titles in the near future.
They lied to me at Cabela’s saying you can’t add I piloted power drive wow
What trust do you have on that power drive
You cant add it to V1.
You can change the control board inside to a powerdrive v2 and then buy the ipilot module for the v2.
The model he has is a newer powerdrive with the ipilot already bundled.
You can add it to V1 and V2 models, I ordered the kit from northern marine to upgrade my 15 year old unit, have to replace the main board too but its 1/3 price of new.
@@omieyouknowme can you please share the website of northern marine? I would like to buy the kit too. Thanks

More steps to spot look useless
Piss poor motor with a pathetic stow and deploy method which is why it isn't shown
you might try holding still so we can actually see the thing. and learn to speak so we can understand you. your too nervous.
This is a great video.
