  • For those that have steering issues with your KIA such as a "jerky" or "stiff" feel or it doesn't return to center when rounding curves or small turns. This fixed my problem. I have already had Kia replace the steering coupler for the motor assist and the problem remained. I took it back and they wanted around $1700 for part/labor to replace the steering column. I purchased a used Steering column which had the same issue so I dissected the old one and discovered a tension screw behind the mounting bracket and made a small adjustment. This worked perfectly and now my car drives effortlessly.

THANK YOU!!!! This has driven me crazy for the last two years till I just started accepting the idea that maybe I was just crazy. My wrist no longer hurt from driving and my anxiety of going anywhere has vanished. Thank you again for restoring my sanity !!

I just spent one hour and about 4 Dremel disks to cut that corner off, and this absolutely fixed my problem! The most valuable video of the year right here if you have a Kia Optima with the 'sticky around 12'oclock position' common problem. I dropped the mechanism low enough to get the #5 hex in there and unscrewed the screw until it about hits the bracket...buttoned it all up and now it cruises straight and very fluid steering wheel on the small turns/corrections. I was about to replace my rack thinking it was that, but this is hands down the fix to the mentioned problem. Thank you thank you!

Great video, thank you! I'm about to take care of this for someone today. They'll be relieved it's not a big deal & won't cost much $$$.

So did your power steering light illuminate causing the tension on the steering wheel? Mine is doing this and I doooont wanna take it to the stealership cuz I don't have thar kind of money also I'm pretty mechanically inclined

Hey, great vid, man. I know it was some time ago, but... does this fix the "sticky" feeling in the steering? Like the wheel doesnt want to move when it hasn't spin in a little while, so when you finally break the resistance, you over correct. Is not that the steering is too hard (which it is), but it feels sticky. Like two rubber surfaces sliding across each other...
I have a hard time explaining it, and I'm starting to think I may be making everything up...
It is not clear to me if it is the same problem you had. it would be great if you could let me know.
Anyway, thanks for the great video. Cheers!

I am having the same issue with elantra 2010 annoying feeling like u described and i might go for recalibration to adjust with the battery voltage “as it may be dropped overtime” i think this tension screw loosen or tighten the internal worm to the main gear inside and it could damage the teeth if it’s too much loosen to avoid backlash

Did that issue cause your eps light to turn on??
