Ordered my cube kit, and it arrived very quickly! Am currently watching my grain colonize. Blessed to be able to interact and learn with such amazing organisms! 🥰 Love is true ❤️
This is by far the best start to finish 'how to grow mushrooms' video I've seen! I've been growing mushrooms for a couple years, and yet got so drawn in by the way Paul presents this process that I was shocked by much I learned...including the magic chant...lol! I ordered a complete kit after watching the video (don't tell anyone at my house...every shelf is already covered with colonizing/spawning/fruiting tubs!), and it shipped before the ink was dry on my email! Love your mission, Paul - and the way you are 'colonizing' the world with your Spirit!
Fungaia's products truly are the best. I bought several different products from different companies to see which is best, and Fungaia's was by far superior! I wish I would've known about this channel a long time ago. Keep up the good work, Fungaia, and thanks for all the knowledge.
Thank you for the code for the discount with true blue genetics. I ordered from them and the syringes were so wonderfully full of mycelium in the liquid culture and they even threw in an extra syringe of another strain for me for free. I ordered from another place first but true blue had so much more varieties and the amount of mycelium in the syringe was awesome and I was so happy with the extra one. I will be a true blue customer for life now. ❤
I was not expecting to be laughing so much at a mushroom cultivation video. OWAH TAGU FIAM! OWAH TAGU FIAM! You're hilarious! 😂 Also, the tip about the candle creating a rising column of heat under which is a small but fairly sterile environment -- that was completely new to me, thank you for sharing that! As a brand-new almost-mycologist, I've been devouring "mycology for beginners" videos over the past week, and none of them have mentioned that tip. I also really appreciate the explanation and tips regarding the substrate/grain mix ratio for your bags, because I'm thinking I might start with growing from bags before trying Monotubs. 1:1 ratio, got it! Thank you! Immediately subscribed!
Getting ready to embark on a new journey of mushroom cultivation... I've been watching lots and lots of TH-cam videos and reading a plethora of articles. This cat seems the most genuine and knowledgeable and I will be following him and buying his products ❤ thank you bro 🙏
Paul is THE MANNNN! This entire process was a breeze! From ordering, shipping, products, etc... I've felt completely comfortable during the entire process, never having grown them before. Fantastic videos! I’ve been contemplating getting into mushroom growing and your channel and videos have given me some real insight and inspiration! Thank you so much! Is there any chance you could do a video on the most cost effective way to be a home diy mushroom grower with a grow tent ? Again thank you and keep up the good work
When I posted my original comment, I mentioned that I couldn't resist trying a Fungaia Cube Kit with True Blue Genetics culture, despite the fact that I had a 'colonizing closet' filled with 90 second rice bags, all-in-one grow bags from a variety of sources, as well as some PF tek mason jars. And wow...I am so glad I did...! Some of my original 'projects' had been colonizing for over a month when I inoculated the bag of grain that came with the cube kit on 14 FEB (that's right...I spent Valentine's Day with mycelium culture and rye berries...and Mushroom Music...try not to judge me too harshly...lol!). The bag was completely colonized less than two weeks later, and last night I made my first attempt at spawning to bulk in a monotub (more to follow on how things work out...). PS - in those two weeks, several of the all-in-one bags grew more mold than mycelium, so from now on, this is how I'm going to roll!
@@johnunderwood7786 It did - amazingly well! Sadly, I didn't weigh my first harvest - I was too excited about the grow and getting them into use that I totally forgot! What I can share is that the monotub was completely full when I harvested the first flush, and almost half full for the second flush. My second and third monotubs are in fruiting conditions now, will update again when I weigh those harvests. Thanks!
After watching one of your videos, i placed an order with True Blue Genetics. I didn't realize y'all were based in Walla Walla. As a Sharpstein Stomper, living in the Sonoran desert, I'm touched.
damn, I had read that liners were not necessary and that sidepinning had nothing to do with light. But I trust and respect this guys opinion far more than most youtubers. I guess I better find a way to cover the sides of my bin
Couple things to add/ critique, though I don't want to give sources because it's late at night and I'm lazy (feel free to correct me!): - Mycelium doesn't need light, light's only function in the growing process is giving the fruiting bodies a direction to grow towards, like a "grow upwards" sense. Mushrooms have been cultivated and fruited in complete darkness. - Side pinning is not caused by light reaching the sides. People who use liners for the purpose of blocking light from getting to the sides still get side pins. I believe the real reason people get side pins is because the mycelium sees that the fruiting conditions (like moisture) are better on the sides and bottom of the cake, deciding to fruit there as opposed to the more-dry top. - The initial casing layer (when you spawn to bulk in the video) is a good step to prevent contamination during cake colonization, but this is seen as more of a fake casing layer- not that it's a bad idea, but because an 'actual' casing layer is added after colonization and before fruiting conditions are set into place. This 'secondary' casing layer is used to achieve better fruiting conditions on the top, also so you can prevent side and bottom pinning. But really, from a fellow mushroom hobbyist, great video!! Really nice to see more of these full start to finish mushroom cultivation walkthrough videos.
Thanks for the video and the cube, both are great! When you use the monotub in the video you spray the substrate with water. How much should be sprayed initially and should I spray again intermittently?
Exilent comprehensive vidio the only hair I'm guna pick is about co2 and the fact that it does not sink out the bottom holes, it defuses due to Brounion motion and thermodynamics fresh air is pulled into the bottom holes as warm co2 rich humid air leaves out the top, the mycelium makes a small amount of heat, yes co2 is heavier than air but it does not stratofy in the tub it does not settle out, other than this what an amazing vidio. No boring long sections and everything need is shown and explained.
Just bought this. I have yours, and two other companies. One is already showing mycelium. The other was just inoculated yesterday. As soon as yours gets here I will do it. They will be about three weeks apart on all of them.
Great and super helpful video. One question, regarding “magic” mushrooms I’ve read most everywhere it’s best to use a dehydrator or similar method to dry them as soon as possible after harvesting, and they the properties can withstand temps under 300. Are those types of mushrooms different than others in that regard?
Got my kit super fast! I ordered last weekend and everything arrived Tuesday? Or was it Wednesday? Either way I was surprised. Getting the rest of the gear today to start my mycology journey! Thank you and TBG! OH and i'll prolly use my vw atlas to inoculate in. 😅🎉
Do you mist the lid and sides of the tub after misting the casing layer in preparation for colonization or do you just mist top of substrate then close it up and wait to colonize before transferring to fruiting conditions?
Hey @Fungaia / @Paul! 18:49 I have never heard this about 105F. Could you say more about what this means? At least for cubes everyone i see suggests drying around 120F-160F. Thanks ❤
Very 1st tub - I followed these instructions pretty closely and I got excellent large fruit….2nd time, I think I packed the substrate with my hands too tight.. the pins all started coming out all at the same time and were spread evenly across the tub,( I was excited) but when they started fruiting, they did not get very big (stayed under 3”with small heads opening up.) . Also many of the pins stayed very small or slow growing….Do you think it was because I packed the substrate?
Love your vids! I'd love to support the channel by purchasing the cube kit, but unfortunately it's out of my price range. Any plans for a video explaining how to home-make the rye blend and substrate? Thanks.
Would ortho-phthalaldehyde(OPA) work better than isopropyl alcohol(IPA) for mycology work? From what I can find, IPA doesn't kill spores very well and it can damage fungi. I've never used OPA before, but a cursory look made me wonder if it would be a better disinfectant to use for this purpose or not? IPA seems better than Iodine, ethanol, bleach, or hydrogen peroxide, but it would be nice to see a full review done.
Keeping the bag in a humid environment will help keep it from drying out more, but it won't restore moisture that has already escaped. The best way to get more water into the mix will be to mist heavily when you spawn it into substrate.
If i ordered lc from tbg and got the same variety in multiple syringes; would it be worth the risk of contam to inoculate more than once to speed things up?
You can certainly try it, but I don't think it's worth the trouble. Too much LC can actually over-saturate the grain, and at best it will save you a couple of days of incubation. Better to just make twice as much spawn!
Yeah. Just mist it every once in a while. You'll start to see pins anywhere from a few days to a week or two. And then you should have your first flush ready to pick within two or three weeks.
@@camiloflores7804 I would go to shroomery or actives subreddit and ask the people there. 70% will not catch flame. However 90% will. Use 90% to flame utensils...but use 70% to clean surfaces. 70% does not evaporate as quickly as 90% allowing greater contact time for cleaning surfaces.
@@davidstick9207 I read your comment, took a spray bottle of 70% into another room, and sprayed it directly on a lighter flame, from 3 inches away (over the bathroom sink). It did burn. It was not as flammable as I had expected. I was able to extinguish the resultant alcohol flames easily on my hand and lighter. Nonetheless, I think there is a potential fire hazard in an enclosed space, particularly if that area had a lot of alcohol vapour in it. It's best to be cautious with 70% IPA and flame.
@AD-gi9zg I have worked in molecular labs all my life. I have a PhD. We have never had a fire with 70%. Take it for what that is. It is 140 proof. You can pour 100 proof whiskey in a pan and ignite it to deglaze it. It burns for 10...15 seconds. And it burns cool enough to put your hand in it and not get burned
@AD-gi9zg one thing I should be very clear about...so someone don't hurt themselves...no liquid...no solid...burns. It is the gases given off from heated liquids or solids that burn. Can you take a candle...pour 70% alcohol on the table and and dip that candle into the spilled alcohol and cause a fire? Yes. You can do that with 80 proof vodka too...which is 40% alcohol. But liquids don't burn. It is the atomized molecules of the alcohol that burns. If the concentration of the atomized alcohol molecules are not in a great enough concentration...they can not burn. In a hood...with the fan off...you can spray 70% to clean...have a candle burning...nothing happens because you don't have the concentration necessary for ignition. YOU CAN IF YOU SO SPRAY 90%. Most people playing with fungi...do not have hoods...they have HEPA filter blowing air...which disperses alcohol molecules. Even if you don't have that running...you are in a room. The molecules disperse so fast...they don't ignite. But they can with 90%. If people are worried...don't have a candle burning. But spraying your bag...or a paper towel...with 70%...even if the candle is right there...is not the issue one would think.
you should not dry them at room temperature but the highest temp of a food dehydrator. there are studies on this, but tldr, they are gonna lose a lot more potency by staying wet longer than with the heat, psilocybin doesn't really degrade under 125°C let alone the shy 70°C of a dehydrator. and the last thing you want is a mushroom that's not fully dried as it'll definitely not store well. i put mine for 24h at max temp in the dehydrator and they store forever and haven't noticed any meaningful potency loss.
not bad video except the full advertising i have to ask why no flow hood and not wearing mask ?that being said PhillyGoldenTeacher and The Rookie Mycologist channels have great content and show the process from start to finish including their mistakes .just a little tip for your channel show more grow more ( views ) / SHROOMS may your channel grow like you want shrooms to grow massive
Wrap liner around outside of bin. Trim and tape then drop inside bin....if you’re reall wild you can spray bottom of tub with hydrogen peroxide to keep surface tension⚡️⚡️⚡️♻️ no tape
Not trying to Alpha you bro but if you run the hole saw in reverse it gives a better cut and won't break the plastic. Thats a vinyl siding trick. Btw,, your sponsor is sold out of all the good mushrooms. I would love to buy this kit and some P. Cyans from true-blue but they're sold out😢
Um, well you're not the one eating it, so it shouldn't be an issue, right? Unless you can't even touch gluten. Haven't heard of that but if that's the case then the good news is that, if you wear gloves, your skin never actually comes into contact with the grains. Gluten free or not. But, of course, millet works great also for growing mushrooms. And relatively inexpensive. Especially if you opt to purchase a big bag of wild bird food from the garden section of your local big box or hardware store. 20 pounds of wild bird food will cost roughly $10 or $15 dollars.

there are studies on this, but tldr, they are gonna lose a lot more potency by staying wet longer than with the heat, psilocybin doesn't really degrade under 125°C let alone the shy 70°C of a dehydrator.
and the last thing you want is a mushroom that's not fully dried as it'll definitely not store well.
i put mine for 24h at max temp in the dehydrator and they store forever and haven't noticed any meaningful potency loss.
Have you heard of anyone having any success with cultivating the Pine mushroom?
not bad video except the full advertising i have to ask why no flow hood and not wearing mask ?that being said

Cyans from true-blue but they're sold out😢
Great tip!
Subed please change the music 😂
crazy how you need basically a whole lab to grow these but they grow in nature
❤
Please stop the algorithm 😢
If this is the easy way I'd hate to see the complicated way..
I know right lol! I would love to learn but it seems so complex…

cleans everything like a surgery room for 25 minutes.... 25:13 places a dirty bag in the clean tub...OOf...
Buying grain substrate is problematic for those with gluten, wheat, rice, and oats intolerance… I’m thinking millet, tapioca, buckwheat substrate.
This comment section sounds an awful lot like those fake reviews on "as seen on TV websites.
tooo much worthless lecturing.
Don't really want to sound like a troll but what part of " from scratch " includes buying a pre made substrate. It's just irritation to see these, I'll show you how to do it yourself videos, as long as you buy my premade supplies.'
