Brian May admitted in an interview that Nuno's solo for this gem made Brian realize how incredibly talented Nuno is. There's really nothing that Nuno can't do. I bought this album right when it came out, have jammed to it through all of these years and I'm still utterly amazed by him.
Oh, it's one of his best! Six is such a good album. It's on my roadtrip stack in the 10CD changer/tape deck in my truck....Yes...I recorded it on cassette....I'm old and it sounds better. 😁
This is my favorite song from Extreme. I love it and loved the reaction, thanks! Nuno (lead guitar) is the one that blows me away with his technical ability in this group but Gary's hips are a close second. I was introduced to this band through Queen. Extreme are huge Queen fans! They performed a set with bunch of Queen songs as tribute to Queen during the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert which is when I first became aware of them. You should check it out. It's a nice tribute. Extreme is still touring today.
That Queen medley they did is still one of my favorite Extreme performances. I was a fan before that so I knew they were amazing, but that performance still blew me away!
From my hometown of Boston. Saw them many times before their debut was released fall 87. They were absolutely killing it in the clubs! There new slbum is up for a grammy and honestly hands down their best.
Their Queen medley was the best part of the concert for me. The other day groups did one Queen song and then 2-3 of their own. Extreme did 13min+ of high energy medley, then "Love of My Life" then "More than Words". They got more audience engagement than anyone else. The only thing that came close was "Somebody To Love" at night, when the audience did the 6note drop.
If i had a nickel for every time ive listened to this song, i could retire. Most versatile band on the planet. My absolute favorite band ever Saw them in concert in 2022.. crazy amazing live...
Very much an underrated band. They've sold 10 million records and a lot of people don't know any of their stuff. Their second biggest hit is another "ballad" called Hole Hearted which DEFINITELY needs a reaction. Other great songs are Kid Ego, Decadence Dance, Rest in Peace, and Stop the World. Loved you're reaction to this one. Would love to see more.
Extreme is certainly a band whose songs don't all sound the same! Nuno Bettencourt is one of the most versatile guitarists around. You should check out "Rise", released earlier this year.
Awesome!!! Great band. Really happy to see you checking them out! They have a lot of good tunes; what a fun ride! Edit: the live version of this song that is attached to commentary by Sir Brian May (Queen's guitar player) is highly recommended!
So glad you are exploring true Extreme with this gem. I highly suggest Bad Boys Don't Cry off their 1st album as well as Holehearted , Decadence Dance, Pornograffitti, When I'm President and Money( In God We Trust) off of Extreme 2: Pornograffitti, this album was huge for them. Don't Leave Me Alone off of Extreme 3 is a great ballad.
Glad you guys enjoyed this one. This song is actually very representative of what Extreme does. Nuno Benttencourt is an amazing guitarist and Gary Cherone is a hell of a singer. He even replaced Sammy Hagar as Van Halen's vocalist for a while.
@@kdm71291 Cherone said in an interview that he and the band didn't know each other very well when they made the album. He wished they could have made a second album after their tour. I would have liked to have heard that second album. I think it would have been better.
I have always loved VH III. It is a great album, just not a very good Van Halen album. If you think of it as an "Extreme" album with "Special Guest Guitarist Edward Van Halen" then you'll see what I mean.
@@GG-ee9nl I saw them live on that tour with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, great concert, and although different from other VH albums it was still EVH, I personally think Fire in the Hole is underrated along with "Without You", "Ballot of the Bullet", and "Year to the Day" is just some of EVH's best work. As a VH super fan I would have loved to see the band do one more album, I really think it would have been a good one. I guess we will never know.
Both songs are from the album Pornograffiti. Absolutely get a copy, definitely listen to it! It blew the socks off 1990 and is still an absolute classic! 😁
Love this track - thanks for reacting to it. Check out Hole Hearted, it's a great track and you'll love the groove and for another absolutely rocking song by them, listen to Play with Me (from Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure) and It's a Monster. Just a great rocking band and Nuno the guitarist is a machine!
"Decadence Dance" off this album is a banger. Their first song to gather much attention is "Mutha (Don't wanna go to School Today)" off their first album.
"Pornograffiti" is an extraordinary album!!! Not only does it feature "More Than Words" but y'all should also check out "Hole Hearted", "Decadence Dance" and "When I first Kissed You." GREAT album!! I have tickets to see them in February in Houston with Living Colour. Can't wait! Nuno Bettencourt is a remarkable guitarist who also plays for Rihanna. Gary Cherone, Extreme's singer, was also in Van Halen briefly and did one album with them. Extreme just released a new cd "Six" a few months ago and it totally rocks!
I love Extreme! If you haven't reacted to Hole Hearted by Extreme yet, you guys will love it. There is also Play with me, at least thats what I think that song is called. Have a good one! Luv ya Rob Squad Fam :)
Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt is from Hudson, Ma next town from me. In a few weeks he does his annual Bettenfes( TurkeyJamt at the Portugese Club where he performs with his whole very talented family and friend's. Nuno was Rhiannas guitarist and musical director for over a decade
Great reaction! I went to a concert of Extreme back in the days. I was a fan for some time, but they were in the charts at that time with "More than words". In the crowd many people only knew that side of them - and got a 2 1/2 hour rock granade thrown at them. First many shocked faces, then shear awe! Best concert ever.
Nuno Bettencourt is one of the all time guitar gods. Some recommendations: "Rest In Peace", "Rise" (from the new album), and "Midnight Express" (for one of the best acoustic instrumentals ever).
Oh my goodness I love extreme, you have just made my day by doing a reaction to this song, they have some absolute bangers! You have set me up brilliantly for a boring day at work! My teenage years, seen them live they are brilliant!
I'm so glad you finally got back to Extreme, it's been a long minute. I'm going to ask again....check out "Rise". Nuno does an epic solo in this one. A fat cry from "More than Words"
Extreme is awesome! Surprised you didn't get blown away by that solo, Nuno is one of the greatest living guitar players! They have a new album out this year called simply SIX (6th album), and singles so far have been great: Rise, Banshee, Rebel, and Over the Rainbow. In particular the solo on Rise had all the guitar channels on here a buzz with how amazing it was, you should check it out. You do modern songs too, I've seen your Metallica reactions.
Glad you are back to checking out Extreme. There's a video out there where they let a young girl get up on stage and play bass on "Get the Funk Out." You should check that out. Also, if you want some crazy bass playing, check out Primus - My Name Is Mud (Live Heineken Open'er Festival 2011). They are interesting to say the least and the bass work is insane.
They guys were my favorite band in the 90's, and they just released a new album. They're still killin' it. You've gotta hear "When I'm President" from the same album you're hearing. Saw them live in Orlando in the 90's, and they're no joke.
YOU GUYS. Danger Danger and Extreme in the same week???? You really love me. My two favorite metal bands, THANK YOU!!! I haven’t watched yet but I’m assuming you loved it because this song is so amazing. 🎉
I went to see extreme a couple of months ago, and let me tell you, they still had the same amount of energy as this video and it’s 30+ years later. Unbelievable performance 👏👏
Finally!!!! Been waiting so long. Told you. Horns. Metal. Guitar solo that even Queen's Brian May was astounded by. What more could you want? (They have lots of other rockers.... Check them out.)
And this is why their album with "More Than Words" on it was the most returned album of all time back in the day. So many moms went out to buy it after hearing More Than Words and then there was much horror and pearl clutching when they heard Extreme's usual music! 🤣
I remember standing in Odyssey Records in Vegas (God I miss record stores) one night watching a 50ish lady picking up a copy of the cd.... And thinking to myself, Lord, she is going to have the shock of her life when she dives into the album. I actually thought about giving her a heads up, but decided; 'you know what, the band earned that sale by putting out a huge hit, far be it from me to take that away from them".
Nuno Bettencourt is not only a helluva guitarist, he writes and composes, too. He's co-written and/or played on music with Janet Jackson, Robert Palmer, Toni Braxton, Rihanna, Dweezil Zappa, Joe Jonas, and more.
From my hometown of Boston. Saw them many times before their debut was released fall 87. They were absolutely killing it in the clubs! There new slbum is up for a grammy and honestly hands down their best. Check Banshee!!
Another fab track. So glad you are exploring their range. Their new release HURRICANE is absolutely stunning - in the same vein as More Than Words but I love their funkier stuff too - HOLE HEARTED I would class as somewhere in between the two ;-)
I really wish you guys would do more of this band. They had so many great hits. Their music is so right up your alley too. Honestly, just watch any Extreme video. They are all amazing. I don’t even have to give you any particular titles because any song you pick is gonna be great.
This was '90 and they just released a new album earlier this year. As always, Extreme has the variety, check out "Rise" for the guitar, "Other Side of the Rainbow" for something more laid back and pop-ish. "#Rebel" and "Banshee" are somewhere in between. Amazing they can rock now as hard as they did 30+ years ago.
In the late 80s and early 90s, there was a brief thing of mixing funk and hard rock: Living Colour, Dan Reed Network, Electric Boys, even Red Hot Chill Peppers were initially lumped into that category. Extreme came somewhat late to that party, but they probably had the most success. And Nuno Bettencourt, the guitarist, is considered a bonafide guitar hero in the tradition of Eddie Van Halen. His chops are sick, but like with Eddie, his musicality is what makes the difference. If you’re into the funk-hard-rock thing, you should check out Dan Reed Network, and Electric Boys’ cult hit All Lips ’N Hips. (I think you’ve already heard Living Colour).
This made me smile. I love this band!! I saw them in Cleveland back in '89 just before this album came out. Kid Ego from their first album is great, we all know that guy, lol. But, to go along with your other channel, when you finally watch Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Extreme's song Play With Me is the song played during the mall scene. The song is a very complicated one to sing and Gary sang it hanging upside down from a pipe that was over the stage. They are amazing live!!! The drummer, Paul Geary played a solo that gave most of us a leg cramp. Nuno does a solo he calls Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee. Pat Baker, the bassist ❤❤❤. This was one of my favorite bands from the 80's. They are well rounded and all are equally talented. It's a shame they were found so late.
I played this album over and over. Nuno’s playing speaks for itself. He actually went on to play in Rihanna’s touring band for over 10 years. There’s plenty of videos of him playing with her out there.
@@wanghotangho5803 I used to see them in the clubs in Boston. Nuno's rhythm playing is criminally unsung. Most people are fascinated with guitar solos but Nuno had what most guitar heroes don't have: groove.
True story: my sophomore year in high school there was some seniors that had a local cover band. The drummer's dad was the HS band director. One day the principal let them set up on the front steps during lunch and play a few songs. This was one of the songs they played. Before they started they stressed that the song was "Get the FUNK out... not that other word" 😂
Only ever saw Extreme once, at Wembley Stadium supporting Bryan Adams in 1992 but had the pleasure of seeing Roger Daltry, the Whos lead singer, perform several tracks with them, and this was one of them. Nuno is recognised by his peers as one of the best guitarists of all time.
This is my first time hearing this and I love this side of Extreme. In More Than Words I knew they were a rock band deciding to chill out, but this let me see and hear how they rocked out.
I love that you guys took another song from Extreme... they have a lot of amazing songs. I know you would like to hear the performance they did at the Freddie Mercury tribute... they played a mix of several Queen songs. Thank you... I love you from Spain.
Great Extreme reaction Jay & Amber! Killer guitarist Nuno Bettencourt also sings along with his amazing guitar shredding in his other band Mourning Widows. Check out these tracks from them: Love Is A Cigarette, Too Late, Hotel Asylum, Paint The Town Red, I Wanna Be Your Friend, The Air That You Breathe 🎸🔥😎
They were part of a movement that blended funk and rock to get bangers like this, hence "if you don't like what you see here, get the funk out". The lead singer also spent a short while li Van Halen
Finally!!! Been waiting long for this one. Nuno Bettencourt shreds on guitar. Check out “Hole Hearted” next.
Yes Hole Hearted
Mutha (Don't Wanna Go to School Today) has got to make the list too

Hole Hearted for sure!❤

"Am I ever going to change" - Nuno's guitar work is nothing short of amazing
Yes!!!! Amazing work of art!🤘
History has not put enough love on Nuno... so far, without question.

This song is pure greatness... Brian May of Queen once said he couldn't do this guitar parts... Nuno played guitar for Rhiana as well.
Not only Sir Brian said that but he also praised the phrasing and the technique. 🙂
And Brian May is still praising Nuno's work in 2023. Clearly, he rates Nuno very highly.

This is one of the all-time best rhythm guitar tracks, Nuno is simply on fire near the end.
I believe funk metal master Pat Travers plays the rhythm guitar on this song.
@@cbh440 Apparently Pat Travers sang backup vocals on it.
His rhythm playing I’m equally fascinated with as a guitarist
@@wanghotangho5803 I used to see them in the clubs in Boston. Nuno's rhythm playing is criminally unsung. Most people are fascinated with guitar solos but Nuno had what most guitar heroes don't have: groove.
They worked with a horn section called "The Badass Brass," and it works SO well for this song!
OMG me and my friends would blast this and sing at the top of our lungs in the car just cruising around. Still love it!
Singer, Gary Cherone has an awesome tribute to The Who, Slip Kid, with his brother Mark on guitar. Extreme is from the suburbs of Boston, MA.
Fantastic! I am super impressed with the choreographer, the set designer and those horns!
"HOLE HEARTED"... (Incredible acoustic guitar and wonderful song.) 😉
Wow. This is a flashback. I loved everything about this band back in the day, and low key crushed on Nuno.
The solo on this is Brian Mays favorite solo of all time. There’s a you tube video of him talking about it
Saw Extreme this summer and they killed it. Sound absolutely amazing. "Mutha" would be a fun song to react to as teachers.
Nuno is such a phenomenal guitarist. The was incredible then and is still every bit of amazing these days.
This is my first time hearing this and I love this side of Extreme. In More Than Words I knew they were a rock band deciding to chill out, but this let me see and hear how they rocked out.
omg I haven't heard this in so long!! Great tune!! I always use that phrase. That one and "Bless your heart" lol
I love that you guys took another song from Extreme... they have a lot of amazing songs. I know you would like to hear the performance they did at the Freddie Mercury tribute... they played a mix of several Queen songs. Thank you... I love you from Spain.
Oh yeah...this is a first fir me too. Damn, im loving this. A mixture of rock and funk...with bass guitar and brass section.....👍❤️
Seeing as they are both teachers and Amber is a mother, I think they'd really like Extreme's song "Mutha" off their 1st album.
Hurray! I thought I was going to have to fly over from Portugal and make you watch this in person! Thanks, guys!
Great Extreme reaction Jay & Amber! Killer guitarist Nuno Bettencourt also sings along with his amazing guitar shredding in his other band Mourning Widows. Check out these tracks from them:
Love Is A Cigarette, Too Late, Hotel Asylum, Paint The Town Red, I Wanna Be Your Friend, The Air That You Breathe 🎸🔥😎
They were part of a movement that blended funk and rock to get bangers like this, hence "if you don't like what you see here, get the funk out". The lead singer also spent a short while li Van Halen
You NEED to check out their song "Play With Me". Probably the fastest guitar you will EVER hear! 🎸
(And watch the lyrics version.)
