Marty Friedman from MegaDeth and Paul Gilbert have done some work together for Japanese TV. It's amazing, and hillarious all at the same time. If you like watching Paul play guitar, search for video clips of those two together. One of the shows was called Rock Fujiyama i believe.
Paul Gilbert is one of my favorite guitarists. While his solo albums are not commercial smash hits they show off both his incredible technical abilities and his growing and maturing taste. I particularly love his Fuzz Universe and Vibrato albums.

Billy Sheehan on the bass. I had lunch with him last summer in Nashville and he's every bit as energetic now as he was when this came out in 1989. Billy was also the bassist for David Lee Roth when Dave left Van Halen, and he has played bass on a TON of other artists' albums. Definitely worth checking him out with Steve Vai on the G3 Live in Denver videos out there.
It's such an 80's thing that this band has 2 of the greatest bass and guitar shredders to ever pick up an instrument, but they're best known for a ballad.

A band of musical prodigies! Billy Sheehan re-wrote the book on bass guitar. Paul Gilbert is just a freak of nature on guitar, and Pat Torpey (RIP) on drums is just fantastic. Throw in Eric Martin on vocals with catchy songwriting, and you have yourself a supergroup!
I was SO STOKED to see you guys doing Mr. Big again. The combination of Knight, Sheehan, Torpey, and Gilbert was truly one of the most overlooked supergroup style of act back in the day. Billy Sheehan will always be one of the best rock bass players ever.
You should check out their live version of Shy Boy from Budokan, Japan. A song that Billy Sheehan wrote in the band Talas. David Lee Roth also recorded it. Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan really plays up to each other on Shy Boy. Drummer Pat Torpey RIP are also phenomenal. Mr. Big did a lot of heavy songs but were mostly known for their ballads. Some one most have been surprised when buying the album after seeing the ballads on MTV
Mr. Big were blessed with ability to write ballads and bangers. All the players were beyond excellent on their instruments and they all sang vocals, so the choruses sounded extra rich. They had decent success in the U.S., but were superstars in Japan. Sadly, drummer Pat Torpey passed away from Parkinson's diease a few years ago. Mr. Big is actually on their farewell tour as we speak with Nick D'Virgilio of progressive rock groups, Spock's Beard and Big, Big Train, handling the drums. Bassist, Billy Sheehan and guitarist, Paul Gilbert are still active in music. Billy is currently a member of two rock groups I follow: The Winery Dogs, and Sons of Apollo. Both groups also feature amazing drummer, Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater fame, as well. Mike's a prog drumming legend with all the groups and projects he's in currently, as well as the past. Some of the ones I follow are The Neal Morse Band, Transatlantic, Flying Colors and Liquid Tension Experiment. Anyway, thank you for reacting to more Mr. Big. They have much more for you to enjoy.

This made my Monday morning! Mr. Big is one of my favorite bands and I'm so glad that you got back to them. Eric Martin has one of the best singing voices out there. Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert not only play so well together but are also masters of their instruments. Pat Torpey's drum work was always kickin! I was lucky enough to get second row to see them in concert before Torpey was diagnosed with Parkinsons and has since passed on. They are one of the best bands I've seen in concert. They don't nearly get enough recognition for the amazing talent found in this band.

I'd forgotten that Mr. Big was one of the hair bands of the 80s and they really rocked. However their big claim to fame were their ballads like 'Just Take my Heart' and 'That's Why This Thing Exists.' They also did a pretty good cover of Cat Steven's, 'Wild World.'

Then he did some time with David Lee Roth. Check out YANKEE ROSE or SKY BOY with him. He then formed MR BIG which is a super band of great musicians. He also has a fun group called WINERY DOGS with Ritchie Kotzen and Mike Portnoy and for your Prog Rock Insanity check out the SONS OF APPOLLO. Billy uses a two neck bass and the guitar player also plays on a two neck guitar!

Please give proper props to Billy Sheehan! This song starts off with the bass. Billy Sheehan is the most talented underrated basis in rock and roll. He played with David Lee Roth when David Lee Roth left Van Halen and went solo, as well as Mr Big, and now the winery dogs. Please check him out with David Lee Roth and also with the winery dogs. You've done a version of the song fooled around and fell in Love with the original singer, Elvin Bishop, but please do the version that the winery dogs did in Japan. I promise you will love it! But again please give praise to Billy, he is so deserving and he is the nicest man on rock and roll right now in social media. He responds to you will carry on a conversation with you and is amazing. We saw the winery dogs in Dallas back in March and they blew us away

I remember a few friends who dismissed this band, upon only hearing "To Be With You", thinking they were just soft rock posers. They changed their minds, when I played this song for them.
When 'to be with you' came out is was all you heard everywhere. I got so sick of it. I didn't want anything do with Mr. Big. And never gave them a chance. Years later I heard a few songs and was kicking myself for not listening earlier. They're an amazing band of great musicians
This was one of my favorite songs from them. Paul Gilbert is one of the early guitar hero shredders of the late 80s. I saw him live solo in the 2000s and was blown away. He's incredible and very funny too. Billy Sheehan is a beast on bass. They were at the same level of skills and shred capabilities, Paul and him. This band is often overlooked but if you grew up in the 80s and you liked guitar a little bit, you knew them and probably liked them. Most people just know the mandatory slow songs they would have to release as singles for their album promo and having radio time but they're a great rock band.
OMG!!! finally!!! I have to come back from vacation to find you have done my request!!! This is one of the best duos on guitar in history. Paul and Billy were admired by all the musicians of that era for this album.

In 83, when I was two years underage to drink, my bandmates and I popped into a divey club for some jugs and stumbled onto a rocking band out of Buffalo called Talas. Then the bass player solo'd. It was this day that I learned the name Billy Sheehan. Well actually, there was no internet yet so it took me a while longer to find his name, but I knew who he was.
Paul Gilbert is one of the greatest guitar players. Hands down. He teaches as well. Pat Torpey passed away back in 2018. RIP. Eric Martin is the lead singer and is 30 here. Yes they are on their farewell tour 2023/24. They each have solo careers or in other bands. They still got it. That is for sure. Bass player is Billy Sheehan and he formed this band.

Had the pleasure of seeing Billy Sheehan play with Steve Vai on Vai's Real Illusions: Reflections tour. This guy is the truth and he's extremely humble in conversation. Met him outside the venue after the show and we chatted about 5mins before Vai came out to sign my guitar. Both are really nice guys.

This was the very first song the world heard from Mr.Big! A Super Group by every means of the definition. Billy Sheehan is probably the most formidable bass extraordinaire the world has ever known. Mr. Big debuted in 1989 and had all the potential to be a massive rock band - Eric Martin on vocals... the shredding talent of Paul Gilbert (guitar) who was in a speed metal band Racer X... veteran bassist Billy Sheehan, formerly of Talas and David Lee Roth (Van Halen) solo band... and (the late) Pat Torpey (drums)... They became huge for the ballad in 1991 - 'To be with you'... and were huge in Japan in the 90's even after grunge rock took over. Their 1993 cover of 'Wild world' (by Cat Stevens) from the 3rd album 'Bump ahead' was another hit. By coincidence, Mr. Big were also Rush fans... and they did open for Rush in 1990 ('Addicted to that Rush' indeed!) Later albums ('Hey man' in 1996... and then, 'Get over it' in 1999... I was in the middle of watching something else when i saw this was posted and stopped immediately to watch this. Didnt even watch it yet, had to post first because i was so excited!! Eric Martin is up there with one of the best voices of the genre. And with Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert you have two of the best at their craft. And lets not forget Pat Torpey on drums. I still listen to the first 2 albums....the entire album because there's not a bad song. Right up Amber's alley will be "Green Tinted 60s Mind" and for some rocking tunes "Alive and Kicking". Give Billy some love! Billy Sheehan is the best bassist in rock and roll even right now. He is now with a band called The Winery Dogs with an amazing drummer named Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater, and Richie Kotzen who is a wonderful blues guitarist. Billy also was the basist when David Lee Roth went solo from Van Halen. He is one of the premier basists in rock and roll. Listen to his style he plays the bass like a guitar. Freaking amazing and I love him! Also if you ever ask him anything on his Facebook page, he actually responds to you. Him and I have had a few conversations online through the years and he's a great guy.

I think Sheehan also played for UFO, briefly, when Pete Way departed for Fastway in 1982-83.

I'd forgotten that Mr. Big was one of the hair bands of the 80s and they really rocked. However their big claim to fame were their ballads like 'Just Take my Heart' and 'That's Why This Thing Exists.' They also did a pretty good cover of Cat Steven's, 'Wild World.'

BASS PLAYER = Bill Sheehan. He is the reason I started playing the Bass Guitar back in 1988.
You are on a great rabbithole here! His first band; TALAS; had some great tunes. Then he did some time with David Lee Roth. Check out YANKEE ROSE or SKY BOY with him. He then formed MR BIG which is a super band of great musicians. He also has a fun group called WINERY DOGS with Ritchie Kotzen and Mike Portnoy and for your Prog Rock Insanity check out the SONS OF APPOLLO. Billy uses a two neck bass and the guitar player also plays on a two neck guitar!
Got to see them live on their first tour and they were very high octane and sounded just like what you heard❤😊❤
I love this song! My favorite from them. I was lucky enough to see them in concert at Shorline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA in the early 90's. They opened for none other than Rush! Just a great show all around!

Please give proper props to Billy Sheehan! This song starts off with the bass. Billy Sheehan is the most talented underrated basis in rock and roll. He played with David Lee Roth when David Lee Roth left Van Halen and went solo, as well as Mr Big, and now the winery dogs. Please check him out with David Lee Roth and also with the winery dogs. You've done a version of the song fooled around and fell in Love with the original singer, Elvin Bishop, but please do the version that the winery dogs did in Japan. I promise you will love it! But again please give praise to Billy, he is so deserving and he is the nicest man on rock and roll right now in social media. He responds to you will carry on a conversation with you and is amazing. We saw the winery dogs in Dallas back in March and they blew us away

I remember a few friends who dismissed this band, upon only hearing "To Be With You", thinking they were just soft rock posers. They changed their minds, when I played this song for them.
When 'to be with you' came out is was all you heard everywhere. I got so sick of it. I didn't want anything do with Mr. Big. And never gave them a chance. Years later I heard a few songs and was kicking myself for not listening earlier. They're an amazing band of great musicians
Pat Torpey The drummer passed away in 2018 from complications of Parkinson's. Very sad he was such a great player

This was one of my favorite songs from them. Paul Gilbert is one of the early guitar hero shredders of the late 80s. I saw him live solo in the 2000s and was blown away. He's incredible and very funny too. Billy Sheehan is a beast on bass. They were at the same level of skills and shred capabilities, Paul and him. This band is often overlooked but if you grew up in the 80s and you liked guitar a little bit, you knew them and probably liked them. Most people just know the mandatory slow songs they would have to release as singles for their album promo and having radio time but they're a great rock band.

This is one of the best duos on guitar in history. Paul and Billy were admired by all the musicians of that era for this album.

Billy Sheehan is part of Winery Dogs with Richie Kotzen(Mr Big's guitarist in the later years) and Mike Portnoy. You should check out "Oblivion" from them, or just about any song they do.
All these guys are awesome on their own, put them together as Mr.Big, it just gets crazy!! This is probably my favorite of theirs but can't go wrong with Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert!!

Except everyone in the band was known and respected by their fellow musicians. They should have been well-known for more than one ballad.

In 83, when I was two years underage to drink, my bandmates and I popped into a divey club for some jugs and stumbled onto a rocking band out of Buffalo called Talas. Then the bass player solo'd. It was this day that I learned the name Billy Sheehan. Well actually, there was no internet yet so it took me a while longer to find his name, but I knew who he was.
Paul Gilbert is one of the greatest guitar players. Hands down. He teaches as well. Pat Torpey passed away back in 2018. RIP. Eric Martin is the lead singer and is 30 here. Yes they are on their farewell tour 2023/24. They each have solo careers or in other bands. They still got it. That is for sure. Bass player is Billy Sheehan and he formed this band.

Had the pleasure of seeing Billy Sheehan play with Steve Vai on Vai's Real Illusions: Reflections tour. This guy is the truth and he's extremely humble in conversation. Met him outside the venue after the show and we chatted about 5mins before Vai came out to sign my guitar. Both are really nice guys.

This was the very first song the world heard from Mr.Big! A Super Group by every means of the definition. Billy Sheehan is probably the most formidable bass extraordinaire the world has ever known. You must hear him in the band The Winery Dogs and their song "Elevate". As for Mr. Big their catalog is deep! So many good songs...where do you start? This song I think, was the high water mark. Saw these guys open for Rush in 1990, succch a good band live! All these guys are fantastic and have gone onto tons of other projects. Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert are just great together.

Mr. Big debuted in 1989 and had all the potential to be a massive rock band - Eric Martin on vocals... the shredding talent of Paul Gilbert (guitar) who was in a speed metal band Racer X... veteran bassist Billy Sheehan, formerly of Talas and David Lee Roth (Van Halen) solo band... and (the late) Pat Torpey (drums)... They became huge for the ballad in 1991 - 'To be with you'... and were huge in Japan in the 90's even after grunge rock took over. Their 1993 cover of 'Wild world' (by Cat Stevens) from the 3rd album 'Bump ahead' was another hit.
By coincidence, Mr. Big were also Rush fans... and they did open for Rush in 1990 ('Addicted to that Rush' indeed!)
Later albums ('Hey man' in 1996... and then, 'Get over it' in 1999... 'Actual size' in 2001 w/ Richie Kotzen on guitar) were considered rather 'soft' and led to the band's breakup after '01... Mr. Big did reunite w/ guitarist Paul Gilbert rejoining in 2010... However, drummer Pat Torpey was afflicted w/ parkinson's disease and eventually passed away in 2018.

I was in the middle of watching something else when i saw this was posted and stopped immediately to watch this. Didnt even watch it yet, had to post first because i was so excited!! Eric Martin is up there with one of the best voices of the genre. And with Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert you have two of the best at their craft. And lets not forget Pat Torpey on drums. I still listen to the first 2 albums....the entire album because there's not a bad song. Right up Amber's alley will be "Green Tinted 60s Mind" and for some rocking tunes "Alive and Kicking". Now, i will watch it 😂

Give Billy some love! Billy Sheehan is the best bassist in rock and roll even right now. He is now with a band called The Winery Dogs with an amazing drummer named Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater, and Richie Kotzen who is a wonderful blues guitarist. Billy also was the basist when David Lee Roth went solo from Van Halen. He is one of the premier basists in rock and roll. Listen to his style he plays the bass like a guitar. Freaking amazing and I love him! Also if you ever ask him anything on his Facebook page, he actually responds to you. Him and I have had a few conversations online through the years and he's a great guy.
