Thanks for Sharing ❤️, just wish I had been raised vegan or known sooner!!! It's such a liberating feeling and so healthy ❤️ Was a bodybuilder in my younger days and ate a high protein diet (was so programmed to eat animal products). It caused me so many problems. Been vegan now about 6 years and vegetarian before that a few years.... so happy for the change!!!!!
I'm from Turkey and we also have tzatziki (we call it cacik) and I can recommend adding in a bit of mint (dried or finely cut fresh) and it takes it to a whole new level, you guys should try it!
OMG so I made them and they're sooo good!!! Instead of adding salt to the boiling water I added about a half tsp of "no chicken" vegan bouillon to put a little flavor in there(i think the bouillon had salt in it). Its good! and I realized I had a pizza cutter to slice the dough into 'fries', it worked perfectly. :)
Hi there Derek! Thank you for my country's recipe! Just a thing though: tzatziki is better if you grate the cucumber in a separate bowl and you squeeze the water out of it ;-) Try it, believe me it's worth it!
Hallo Derek and Crystal! Thank you so much for another tasty recipe video! I´m Greek and I have some suggestions for the tzatziki portion of the video: 1. You could grate the cucumber in a towel and squeeze the water out before adding it to the sauce to get a firmer end product. 2. You could sub lemon juice with white or red wine vinegar. 3. You could use a vegan greek style yogurt or a vegan skyr style yogurt to achieve the right consistency in your sauce. I have been making vegan tzatziki this way for a long time and it is always delicious! Sending you love and wishing you all the best!

That chickpea base you use to make the fries is the same I use for scrambled eggs, just add it to the sauteed veggies and cook. So delish! I also use it for fried rice too.
Can you make a small video on that? I tried chickpea flour omelette and I fail more then I succeed. Making the batter too thick or too much veggies. Would be nice with a base recipie with measurements

DEREK and Crystal look like you guys have fun together, good marriage. I can feel joy, kindness , happiness from you guys. Not to eat animal flesh is one of the reason why you are happy, calm, joyful.
"Why are we like this?" My wife and I usually look at each other at least once a day and ask, "Why are we so weird?" And laugh just like you did. But we don't wish we weren't, and I imagine you really don't either. Keep on being like that!
As a Greek, I'll offer a tip and some variations. First the tip. You are aiming for something thick, as you mentioned, then you should prep the cucumber to remove the extra moisture. Go ahead a grate the cuke just like you did, but into a separate bowl. Then season it well with salt, mix, and set aside. In about 10-15 mins, the salt will have drawn out a LOT of the liquid. Now, you can just use your hands and squeeze it or put in in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze well to remove the excess water. The second tip is to add about 1-2 T of olive oil, depending on how much you are making, and the olive oil thickens when in the fridge thickening your tsatziki. The variations: flat leaf parsley or mint instead of the dill. They each give a different flavour, with the parsley being the 'freshest' taste, the mint giving a more elegant flavour and of course the dill you know about. However, my fav is with a little fresh basil... maybe 1-2 leaves...very very nice. I also like adding a drop or two of a hot sauce to just give it a little nip. Also, it needs time for the flavours to meld, so it should be chilled for at least an hour. Hope you try the variations... Thanks for the fry recipe!!
We get chickpea fries from Chickpea restaurant in Vancouver. They’re incredible and served smothered in a mango sweet chilli sauce. Will definitely be trying your recipe!! Thanks you two!

Hello Dereck, First and foremost, you two look adorable together and makes me happy to see such happiness together. Now on to the tzatziki sauce: I would recommend shred the cucumber on a kitchen towel first so you can squeeze out the water from the cucumber and then add it to your yogurt mixture. Otherwise your sauce will turn too watery …
This is so so similar to something we make in Sicily called “panelle”. It’s exactly the same process, but we also add parsley to them and cut them in squares to then dip fry them. We have them inside a soft bread roll with a spritz of fresh lemon juice and it’s amazing 🤩
Genoese panissa is just like what we see in the video: it's either eaten when the pudding solidifies, seasoned with oil, salt, pepper, and red onion. (served warm in winter, or at room temperature in summer). Or you chop it up into 'French fries' shapes which are then deep-fried. Traditional and widely available street food.

Just a thought. If you have a Vitamix they makes a container that grinds flour from any grain or bean OR if you have a separate grain mill you can grind chick peas to make the flour over and over again without buying the flour. Obviously if you don't have either then using the store bought is the answer w/o investing big bucks in the other pieces of equipment. I use my large Duett 200 to make large batches of the flour that I keep in a monster jar in the freezer for whenever I need to make omelettes or potato gratin, etc.
I make falafel and tahini sauce on a frequent basis, but I've never used chickpea flour before. I think these fries would work well with falafel seasoning and honestly, this vegan tzatziki sounds way better than one made with plain Greek yogurt (of which I don't care for). Thanks for the recipe!

This could be featured on a budget-minded video, if you ever do one of those in the future. This looks like it would cost about $3 USD as a main dish for my husband and I, which is incredible. It could even fit in a Live Below The Line challenge, AND the fries are completely shelf-stable. Excellent work from you both! And you're a glowing couple.

For people looking for something closer to the ORIGINAL, here is my Greek recipe: Alpro Quark, 2-6 cloves garlic, two table spoons vinegar, one cucumber (peal it, grind it up and then press it to remove as much water from it as possible) , extra virgin olive oil, salt. If you don't want to use alpro soaking and blending sunflower seeds is also possible!

You’re video popped up in my feed , y’all are so adorable and refreshing, I’ve never eaten chickpeas and don’t know if I ever would but I really enjoyed watching your video.
Great recipe guys, very inspiring, I love also to see you both kidding in the kitchen together : ) In Italy they make a type of chickpea bread called "farinata", it's like a focaccia but more soft and moist, made with chickpea flour that is one of my favorite things ever :D
Awesome recipe!! Traditionally, you add a little salt to grated cucumber and let it stand in a dish towel for a while to let the water out. Then you squeeze as much water out of the cucumber as possible. Then only add it to the yogurt mix. This way, you get a less watery tzaziki :)
I mean, even before I clicked on the video I knew this one was going to be awesome but having watched the first 30secs now, I really want to make these asap! Chickpea flour is so so versatile - I use it for béchamel, omelettes, pancakes and quiche filling. I have also seen people make Burmese tofu with it and the concept is pretty much the same as for you fries but you leave it at the cooled-down stage and then fry it or simply cube it for various dishes. Having said that, fries sound AMAZING because anything crispy is just 10x better :D Thank you guys for this fabulous recipe!
I first tried these at the Chickpea Restaurant in Vancouver last year!! 💪 Very cool and I'm definitely putting this on my to make list! Thank you for sharing and listing it all in your description! You're amazing; both of you!!!💕
Love seeing you two together in the kitchen! Vegan couple goals 💕 Also, I make chickpea flour by just putting chickpeas in the vitamix and blending for 60 seconds. Wayyyy cheaper than buying it ready. Be forewarned: it gets LOUD!! I make sure my cat is in another room and have earplugs in hahah
I love this! Chickpea flour is so versatile and amazing. I haven't tried making fries with it yet but I'm definitely looking forward to it now. If you guys have the Forager brand of plain cashew yogurt where you live please try it out. I use it all the time for dips and dressings. It's amazing. Iv'e been a subscriber for years now and let me just say that I love when you guys dance and get silly. It's one of the reasons I subscribed. Keep being silly and positive. Also I love when you have outtakes at the end lol
Me too! But recently, because I am vegan for ethical reasons as well as for my health, I am sad to say I eliminated cashews entirely from my diet because they come almost exclusively from a part of Vietnam where slave labour is still used and the work is very labour intensive and in all good conscience I can't do it. I make vegan yoghurt too because I'm addicted to fiery vegan curries and that Almond Cow Machine which costs as much as those indispensible high power blenders was half price on Black Friday. Don't know if you are interested but almonds .... i leave the skins on the machine does the rest but soak them overnight not sure if that's necessary ... are naturally full of calcium no additives god knows I eat lots of tempheh and tofu so without trying to be self-righeous it tastes way better as a beverage and yes after soaking the skins come off reallly easily and I'm ok with the result for vegan yoghurt. Not sure you can get Forager brand in Canada. Things due to covid 19 are a bit weird now; I go to an Asian market and across the street a regular grocery store not bad but you never know. For anyone struggling with finances; the market I frequent leaves veggies still ok, mostly; they cost next to nothing and I use them for stock and soup. The only other thing I eat less of is avocadoes .... love guacamole but agree with gojiman that stuff on toast is sort of strange ... to me but once again; Mexico; drug cartels; Chile; wiped out all the local farmers and destroyed water resources. California eats its own produce which leaves South Africa. ..... What can you do? And who can fail to love Simnett and his Crystal????? I have mild MS not a big deal; so glad can swim again still get an hour in with my dog but of course dream of being able to be as positive and fit as that loveable couple...... PS I tried a chickpea flour homemade bread with sunflower seeds I am NOT a baker didn't even have the right utensils just shaped it; essential irish soda bread it was brill. Will comment with recipe next time this was a too long comment!!!
It is 2 in 1 recipes, and they are both very tasty. I am a Turk, and we do the jajik (cacik - tzatziki) a bit different. All ingredients are the same, plus we add a bit more salt and water to make it juicy, then we eat it with spoon. But I like this thick form as well. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Left a really long comment about other things and definitely will try this one. I found a version of vegan Irish soda bread and it's all chickpea flour and a flax egg with sunflower seeds on top ... I didn't even have the right shaped thing to put in oven just let it rest a bit shaped it and it was great. AND of course best warm but can toast it. As soon as I relocate link will leave on your site. Love you guys, inspirational!
I love to make these! Some things I add as flavouring sometimes is nutritional yeast, smoked paprika, miso. One batch that tasted great was using kimchi liquid as a substitute of some of the water.

These are almost like Polenta fries! Much more protein in these being made with Chickpea flour though I imagine. Definitely going to give these a go some time as well as the Tzatziki :D Yum yum. edit: And I've just seen others make the same comparison between these and polenta fries :)
Those fries look great. Although we are not vegan I cook many vegetarian recipes with chickpeas but never have used the flour. I put it on my grocery list while watching how easily and crunchy you made them! Also your Tzatziki looked wonderful. I was surprised how thick it got. When I make mine I grate the cucumbers onto a thin kitchen cloth (washed in no scent soap and no dryer sheets since I use these for cooking only) and squeeze the water from them before adding them to the yogurt base. You can of course use the cucumber water in a veggie drink or for cooking with. Y’all were fun to watch. Keep up the positive energy. 🙂
I love these recipes! I want more content like this. The two of you cooking. You make the cutest couple ever! Question: can you use the same chickpea batter to make a pizza crust?
Thank you!! I made this for supper tonight as a try out before making it for Christmas Eve appy's. Loved it and I can definitely see it being a once a week meal. I could only find oat plain yogurt, and I used hemp hearts instead of cashews, because my SIL is allergic to nuts. It turned out fine, a little on the runny side, but still very tasty. Also, I omitted the oil and they were just fine. All oil is a processed food.

You guys are so fun and this looks delicious!
the blender counter slap dance was amazing im still laughing
👍🤩💝Thank you for the demo. I’ll give this a try.💝
Great recipe guys, very inspiring, I love also to see you both kidding in the kitchen together : )
In Italy they make a type of chickpea bread called "farinata", it's like a focaccia but more soft and moist, made with chickpea flour that is one of my favorite things ever :D
You, ve found another tasty chickpeas recipe. You are very nice together, and always in good humor. Love from Italy
Awesome recipe!! Traditionally, you add a little salt to grated cucumber and let it stand in a dish towel for a while to let the water out. Then you squeeze as much water out of the cucumber as possible. Then only add it to the yogurt mix. This way, you get a less watery tzaziki :)
I gotta try this.. looks soooo goood. Thanks for sharing ❤
Add the salt after it boils to avoid pitting on your nice stainless steel cookware. Looks so good. I've made farinata before so I know I'd love these.
FANTASTIC RECIPE...LOOKS so good. Thank you. for sharing.
You're like that cause you're happy 🥰
I first tried these at the Chickpea Restaurant in Vancouver last year!! 💪 Very cool and I'm definitely putting this on my to make list! Thank you for sharing and listing it all in your description! You're amazing; both of you!!!💕
I didn't even realize that using chickpeas was their whole schtick until someone commented about it. Makes sense. And you are welcome!
What's the name of the restaurant, I would like to go there.
I like when you dance in the kitchen!
Love seeing you two together in the kitchen! Vegan couple goals 💕 Also, I make chickpea flour by just putting chickpeas in the vitamix and blending for 60 seconds. Wayyyy cheaper than buying it ready. Be forewarned: it gets LOUD!! I make sure my cat is in another room and have earplugs in hahah
my cats are terrified of blenders and vacuums
I was thinking of the same idea, but does the mashed up chickpeas actually turn into dough consistency?
I make my own chickpea flour as well--it's just too easy to make.
Don't forget Chick Pea Fudge, delicious. That is on my menu, love it.
Awesome video as usually! I'm going to make these for my children for an after school tea with homemade baked beans and a ton of veggies.
"I'm no Gaz Oakley over here" about two minutes after I realized you have learned a thing or two from him. Bravo for all you do. Love you both! 🔥
Another great video! Thanks for sharing this food, I am DEFINITELY going to try this out this rainy weekend!
Nice! It is so worth it. Takes a little focus at first but you get the hang of it quickly.
Ty!!! Perfect for our Easter dinner. Falafels, humus, carrots, green salad with vegan Caesar dressing! And vegan naan! Ty!!!
It really is! Is there anything chickpeas can't do? And I appreciate the feedback, we do have fun together! Thanks for sticking around. :D
I agree 100%, such a great channel and so entertaining too.
I like your video I might give it a try, that's nice how you guys are so happy, and enjoying the time together, stay happy😊
Looks amazing! I bought chickpea flower to make an omlette but I'm not a huge fan of the outcome. I am going to give this a try for sure!
Hey! Nice recipe :) another way of presenting chickpea fries is by making Sokka/Farinatta. This definitely reminded me of Sokka.
I will check that out, thanks.
I had socca/sokka in Nice as plain pancakes. Tasty. Will try this 👍
I watch your channel on and off, but both of you are so compatible with each other. I will try your recipe tomorrow
I love to make these! Some things I add as flavouring sometimes is nutritional yeast, smoked paprika, miso. One batch that tasted great was using kimchi liquid as a substitute of some of the water.

Your channel has so many great recipes that I haven't heard of before, and as a new vegan I'm compiling a kitchen notebook of dishes I want to cook. These fries look incredible.
I've never heard of this. You guys are the best, love that marriage banter between you two. One of the best couples on the internet ♥️
Oh, I want to try this right now!
Wow that’s so interesting, not what I expected to see at all but so much easier than I thought! Look forward to trying the fries and I LOVE tzatziki so thanks for these recipes!! 👏🏼💚😁
You guys are fun and inspiring. The chips look sooo delish and can’t wait to try the tzatziki. 25 years a vegan and now a new yummeroo recipe. Thx from Western Australia. 👍
Try chickpea tofu absolutely amazing, & try adding dried mint in the tzaziki which is what is added traditionally & so good!!!
If Christell is starting her own channel, I'd be her first subscriber, I love her and she's such a natural in front of the camera!
Those look AMAZING! Well done!
A very good combination.
A delicious vegan Greek "Tzatziki"
And a healthy version of "Panelle" an Sicilian chickpea fritters, but baked because we are healthy people. 😊 congrats for the recipe channel. ❤
So cool! Sometimes I make this chickpea dough and season it with cheesy things to make a quick cheese (without the baking 2nd step in your vid). Never thought to make fries with it! Thanks.
You guys have great energy and great food ideas. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much! 😊
This reminds me of a recipe I saw years ago for making Burmese tofu - which is a garbonzo bean flour version that doesn't require fermenting or soy. Thanks for reminding me how to do that! :o)
Quite interesting but looks yum the humble chickpeas flour. Thanks for the idea Christel. Nice day you Two Beautiful people 🥬🥦🥑
Thank you! You too.
I haven't even watched this yet, but this must be amazing. My three year old son absolutely loves chickpeas and fries...I think you just made his week!
i hope u make himthe fries ans dont buy them with aroma also i hope u re vegan where is the zaziki recipe?
I thought vegans were allowed to eat potatoes
@@zamfirtoth6441 potatoes come from the earth not from the lab potatoes are not equal to potatoes if you buy normal potatoes cutt them in peaces then put some olive oil himalayan salt on it then oven those are peobably potatoes that are digestable the aroma potatoes you can probably also find in the us are probably full of aroma and e numbers if you don't actually make them and cutt the peaces yourself do you understand it now ?
@@suearamarapstar do u hope his son is vegan too?
@@FlatEarthLuvr if u can read u din't have to repeat it to me i live in yhe present koment i dont even jnow what it is about sorry what do you want ? They look so good! Love the dynamic of the videos with Crystal they are super chill and fun.
Fantastic creation this is!👍👍 The protein could be a great source!💪
Yes! Missed opportunity there for sure. HIGH PROTEIN FRIES FOR MAXIMUM GAINS!
I go to an Asian restaurant that makes Curry Fries!! Peppers and onions sautéed on the bottom, then 5 potatoes logs (thicker than steak fries) then any curry you’d like but I do peanut curry and those would probably be FANTASTIC with that. Its an appetizer but I always ask for extra veggies to make it a meal!!! Soooo delicious!!
Works with polenta too ^^ I love both versions
Yes yes, we have done that too!
I have been dying for some tazatziki sauce but had no idea how to make a vegan version…..u guys killed it! Thank you both 👍🌸
Totally trying the fries! Next time you make the sauce, squeeze the water out of your cucumber! It’ll make a difference to the end product 👍👌
Ah yes, good idea. Thanks for the tip!
Oh, you two are so much fun to watch!! The fries and tzatziki looks so delicious!!
Thank you so much for sharing these recipes with us.
You two are so cute together, I really enjoyed watching this, especially your little dancey-dance while the sauce was blending! 😁 Great recipe, too, as always. Much love from a German subscriber!
I blitz half a tofu with some soy/oat milk plus ton of dill, some light miso, apple cider vinegar, lemon, few garlic cloves then later add one pressed garlic clove and chopped fresh dill and mint. Easy peasy and tasty :)
Chickpea fries looks so good and delicious! I've never seen and try it before and I hope it's tastes great when I have the right ingredients to make it for sure. Great job Derek and you too Crystal your beautiful self, lol! 😉
It's is definitely worth it! I was surprised. I feel like you could even make fritters or something out of the batter.
Have you two got a recipe Book out if not you should just recently came across your channel and now my wife is watching and doing the recipes
Yay! Those fries look so amazing! Heads up if you want an amazing, fully vegan high tea- Cafe la Vie in Duncan is great.
Oh I have never heard of it. Thank you. We have been to that vegan restaurant in Ladysmith a few times and it's soo good!
@@Simnettnutrition It's new! Happens on Saturdays
Nicki H Is that Duncan on Vancouver Island? Or somewhere else?

I can almost taste this,
Beautiful video presentation. Thanks for sharing
These look so good! Thanks for sharing this! I feel like you could use the uncut chickpea sheet as a pizza crust.

Your right, that does look really good, and GREAT for a family function. You guys are so fun to watch and your recipes are so delicious. It just makes me want to eat it all…I guess that’s the idea right….great recipe…thanks
Came for the food, stayed for the Tzatziki dance (already sub'ed so it's just extra icing on the cake).
Haha, thank you. Have a good day!
You guys are so adorable together!
Totally love watching you both your fun cooks and great recipes...thankyou 😊
