      Glad to hear it. Most people will be able to do that soldering job with just a little patience and watching the video once or twice. Let us know how it goes!

    WARNING: When you do this, be REALLY careful with the power and volume sliders. The little black nub on my power slider broke off, and I have to use a paper clip to turn it on and off

    @WarriorsCentral I believe you are referring to the DS Lite touch screen, which reads where you are pressing the stylus. We have those available on our site, and it is possible to replace. It is a difficult repair however, so if you would prefer we also offer a DS Lite repair service. Thanks for viewing!

    @IronChariots Well, we actually field a lot of complaints for Nintendo (unofficially of course) on this topic. Yes, they are hard to repair, but they also cost a lot less than other systems. The reason for this? They put them together efficiently with somewhat crappy components. There are trade offs, but overall it seems to be a pretty well liked system, and it is definitely repairable.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @crazykeeper91 the conductivity pen works if you know what you are doing, but you could also destroy the motherboard. Also the new screen typically does not come with speakers so you will have to solder. If you are uncomfortable with that, serbs it in to us. We can fix it for you!

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @avery936 You likely have one of a few different types of issues. The safe bet is to send it into us to diagnose your issue and get it fixed for you. Possible causes for this symptom could be a twisted or loose LCD cable, dead/damaged battery, blown f2 fuse, dead power inductor, etc.

  • @Nintendorepairshop

    @superpup2255 Which part are you referring to specifically? if you pulled off a thin plastic layer that has a border around it then yes. We do offer a flat fee repair service for the DS lite. Just click the link in the description.

  • @WinterWolfDubstepper

    Nintendo DS
    After many attempts with my screens going both white, I've discovered another solution! I took out the ribbon cables and used a fine sandpaper on the contacts after that it started to show partially it was showing up on screen :D i used the sandpaper again and now it works like new! ^_^

  • @NintendoPendo
    @NintendoPendo 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    You may have to take it apart to check. A Phillips screwdriver and a triwing would be needed. You would not have to disconnect the ribbon cable , just unscrew the MB and check to see if the padding is in place and the if button looks fine from underneath.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @vadersmydaddy Have you ever dropped it in water? It is odd for a speaker to go out, as those connections are soldered into place. The screen sounds like a ribbon cable that is becoming crimped. Both issues are repairable. You may need to replace the top LCD and speaker.

  • @darkthunder121

    @nintendorepair there are 3 color tubes in a tv red,blue,and green that are magnetized that form the image and the other colors are made from this 3 basic (sorry for the bad grammar)

    @legendaryone1985 Well, if you mean scratches on the LCD screen, yes you can get rid of them by replacing either the LCD (if scratches are deep) or the protective screen that covers the LCD (comes with our replacement cases).

    @kreepychic101 as long as it turns on its repairable you just have to change the top screen which can be done easily if you're a first timer opening it up you will need patience it's pretty fun yet frustrating opening it but once you get to know the insides it's really easy just be careful not to lose pieces

  • @Nintendorepairshop

    @airsoftguy85rocks They are not necessary as far as I know from an electrical standpoint, so no damage. I believe they help hold them in place and cushion them primarily.

    My ds always had problems with its top screen, it was always lose and would fall on my fingers. It finally disconnected from the bottom/ main power thing. What do I do? Does it even need to be replaced or just popped back into place? It’s a rose good DS lite. Not sure if you do the same thing and I’m scared I’ll break my ds (it was passed down from my sister and I don’t wanna break it.)

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @giratinafangabc If your DS Lite screen shows up differently based on how you hold the system, you could either be looking at a bent or cracked motherboard (BAD) or just a crimped or torn Top LCD ribbon cable (Better of the two alternatives). I would bank on the later and go with a replacement Top LCD. If it is the former, you will need to replace the whole system.

  • @NintendoPendo
    @NintendoPendo 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is most likely the ribbon cable not being seating firmly enough. The video by supermodchips states that will happen if it is not in correctly.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MystoK96 I honestly have never tried to leave the speakers off, but I would test it out while the system is still open to be sure.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @maxcastro101 A top screen that changes colors randomly may mean that the cable connecting it to the bottom half of the system is crimped or damaged. A replacement Top LCD comes with a ribbon cable, so I would recommend buying one, and giving the repair a shot. Let us know how it turns out and thanks for viewing!

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @RickvandeS You can check the connection if its properly connected. If problem persist, the top screen might need replacement, We do have stock if your going to fix it on your own. We also accept repairs. You can always visit our website. We are glad to help.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @supererik123 Hmm... By messed up I assume you mean it is not responding. If this is the case, you can likely solve this by opening your system up (you'd need a triwing screwdriver and a small phillps head) and cleaning the contacts, and you may also need to replace the rubber button pad. You can get the triwing and small phillips head on our site, and we also sell replacement buttons. Alternatively, you could send it in to repair it for you. Just search for nintendo repair shop on google.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Darkfire438 That is very odd... I don't think I've heard of this as an issue yet. There is a chance that replacing the screens could work, but I would double check the settings before I tried replacing anything.

    thanks dude! i hope it will work but i am still wondering 2 things: 1. I don't have a soldering iron and 2. is there any way to get one with the speakers already connected to it?

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @acshadow25 Not stupid at all, and the answer is no. We will have more videos out shortly on DS and DSi, both of which are far different.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ElricSowrd Eh, for the most part it is a similar repair. We are hoping to get some more DS Lite repair videos up shortly, then some on the Nintendo DS and DSi. Sorry, we are running behind schedule.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @huntleysculpture double check the top lcd connection. It isn't plugged in all the way.

    You have a short somewhere in your DS and just need to figure out where it is. Could be a top LCD cable, could be a fuse, could be an inductor... Or you can send it in via the repair link above to be fixed by our professional repair staff. Thanks for viewing!

  • @greyfoxx55

    @nintendorepair he means like is there a screen that you can buy that already comes with speakers attached

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @mastachief2 yeah that part of the repair is more artwork than science. You just have to position it correctly and it takes some work. Good news is that when you put it all together you can't tell if not perfect.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @KeyJewel Not really sure what specs it was. Just standard soldering wire.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @sarahbloomfan Yeah. I do feel bad sometimes for the way these systems break, not responsible mind you - that is on Nintendo, but they sure do break easy. Fortunately we can help you save a little money by showing you how to perform the repair on your own. We also offer a mail-in repair service for $54.99 which is much cheaper than elsewhere if you get stuck. In this case, I would advise that it is your bottom LCD, not the touch screen that is the issue. Try replacing that item.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @modern460 Hmm... if it is all white, you might have a problem with your screen, or you may have an issue with your game slot. I would test other games first. If you still get only a white screen, I would recommend sending into us where we can diagnose and perform the repair for you. If other games have different results, it is likely an issue with dirty games or bent game slot pins. We have replacement game slots on our site, but this is a difficult repair for sure.

    My DS Lite has a black line on the top screen. It occasionally expands then shrinks the next day I use it. Surrounding pixels sometimes stick to one color then goes back to normal later after I operate it again. When I look at the LCD (turned off), I can see the black line.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @tvshowuploader7 You can repair a DS Lite after it has been wet if you didn't try to power on while it was wet... typically. Don't get them wet.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @salv95 The black protective screens only come with a replacement case unfortunately. I wish I could find them from another source. If you do mess up the sticky stuff that connects the screen, you can use a home made substitute if you don't want to buy an entire replacement case.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @metsnygiants When you say it turned gold, I assume you mean it turned a solid color and is no longer playing your games. If the piece that broke is from the hinge area, it is possible that the hinge broke and the top lcd ribbon has become crimped. You can follow the instructions on this video, and another we will post on how to repair a broken hinge or you can send it in to us to repair. Either way our site offers all the ds repair products you need. Search for nintendo repair shop on google

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @carlatejada1 If you send your system in for repair at our site, the cost is a flat fee of 54.99 for parts and labor. This would cover the bottom screens if they needed to be replaced. Thanks for viewing!

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @angelaneh You are probably looking at a small crack in the DS Lite shell around the hinge, or a worn out axel/hinge. In either case the repair is fairly easy, we have a video for it, and you can order the parts for cheap on our website. Check it out, and let us know if you have any questions!

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @demolisherness Yeah, if that is cracked or twisted it will cause the Top LCD to not turn on.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SaintLouisManiac This is actually a common issue (entire case snapping in two, not getting mad at GTA chinatown wars). While it may look like a lost cause, believe it or not, you can fix it for under $40 by visiting our site, purchasing a replacement case and top LCD, and following this repair guide and our other video on repairing the DS Lite hinge.

  • @TheGamerDad1
    @TheGamerDad1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Overall this video is amazing. I had to replace the top screen of one of my kids DSL. Overall it took about 1 maybe 2 hrs at most (had a few interruptions) to get this fixed with this video.
    2 items of note
    Please note at the start of the video that a soldering iron is needed. I got to the point where I needed to reattach the speakers and since I don't own one, I wasn't able to put the speakers back on.
    Also can you annotate the part about putting the screen frame back on in video 2 so it's done at the right time please? I also didn't get the frame back on because of this.
    I'm honestly not that worried about it for me because we have headphones for them and the screen frame is mostly cosmetic.
    All in all though this video was a huge help thanks a ton!

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Hariyamaimpact A soldering iron is required for a DS Lite Top LCD replacement. There are all kinds of soldering irons out there, and learning to use one is not too tough. If you change your mind, or get into trouble, our repair staff can do this repair for you. If you have to buy a soldering iron and the parts for a top LCD you are already looking at roughly $50-60 for the repair. You can just send it into us to repair for a $54.99 flat fee. Just saying. Thanks!

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @twilightxd If the Top LCD is distorted, chances are it is what you suspected, and you need to replace the Top LCD (which also replaces the ribbon cable as they are attached). This should fix your issue.

  • @Lu-cidity
    @Lu-cidity 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Omg this helps alot, my top part has one of the barrels missing and thats how my ribbon was torn. I now know at least whats broken and what it looks like inside but i may not try to fix it myself yet, i might just ask one of my engineering friends to do it..... 😊😊

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @soccerstar5457 You probably have an issue with the top LCD ribbon cable caused by the crack in your ds lite hinge. I would replace both the DS Lite shell (which holds the hinge in place), and the Top LCD.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @RandomTask520 Actually, I think you have an issue related to your battery. I would agree it was a fuse if the light only came on for a few seconds, but if it comes on that long it isn't a fuse issue. It could be the battery, or it could be the battery charger chip on the motherboard. If you can't fix it, we can do it for you. Visit our site and search for ds lite repair service for details and to place an order.

    Is there by any way tell apart the difference between a damaged logic board and ribbon cable of the top LCD screen without taking the system apart? Because at first, the top screen of my DS changes to red based on how I hold it but, as time progressed, the screen just stays blue or turns blue after playing it for awhile. But it will also turn back to normal for an instant when the screen dims.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @JAREDMICHALLE You can more than likely fix this issue by replacing the top LCD. It isn't hard to damage these things when they are held in place by a plastic case with little to no cushion.

  • @Nintendorepairshop
    @Nintendorepairshop  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @pieisgood235 This symptom means that you have not connected something properly. Double check all of the ribbon cables to make sure they are securely connected. 9/10 this is the issue when you have this symptom, post repair. It is very, very common to not connect one of these properly.

    @Mradawg4444 Hmm, the L button can be replaced if you open it up (we have replacements on our site), but it may just need to be re-situated to make sure it is making proper contact. The freezing issue is hard to diagnose. Do you have any other symptoms? Anything loose or cracked?

  • @Nintendorepairshop

    @ACLONGO hmmm, this sounds almost as if the screens have faded out... I'm not sure on this one. Were you ever able to figure this one out?

    @TheLegoman031 Does it flash on and then turn off when you start up? What does the top LCD do? If it also flashes on and off, you could be looking at a blown F2 fuse. If the Top LCD is black the entire time, you might be looking at a crimped Top LCD ribbon cable. Either way, we have these parts at a low cost on our site. You can also send your system in for us to fix for you. Check out our site for details, and thanks for viewing!

    My son's DS lite has audio but both screens are very dark- some light comes thru but just black- not the game screen.I have been searching forums and your youtube videos but can't find an answer why both screens would go at the same time- it was not recently dropped.My son tapped the area on the screen ( by memory he knew it was on the bottom L corner) that increases the brightness on the screen and it did increase. any thought? thanks!

    hello i watched this video and i had an idea that ive been reaserching on. i am planning on making a ds lite cabinet (like a arcade cabinet) that will stay in my room. so when i saw the ribbon i thought i could use my dsi xl screens and replace the small ds lite screens and still have the game boy advance game playing capability that the ds lite had. so do you think i could connect the mother board and the screen together and have itstill work?

    I have the Same Tri-Wing Screwdriver As U!! And I can't get out the Tri-wing screw behind the battery and the lower one on the left of the back of the Ds !? Any Ideas that Can Help? :/

    @greyfoxx55 If I had to take a stab at it, I would say replacing the Top LCD would alleviate this issue. I can't imagine what else could cause this other than something with the game cartridge itself. You having been on here before, I am sure you have tried more than one game. If so, go with replacing the Top LCD and let us know how it goes. As you know, we have them available on our site along with the triwing screwdrivers.

    So one of my little black support beams got broken inside my DS and messed up something around the left side of my DS. The L button and Mic stopped working. I've taken apart the lower half up until wire removal- but I don't want to do any more because I'm not sure WHERE the problem is. I removed some dog fur from the bit the black wire plugged into, but I have no idea if that helped anything.

    @brainfuly If its shows a blank white screen the top lcd might be broken. Is your DS Lite hinge won't "hold" open at various position?

    Is there somewhere I can go to fix my ds? The top screen shows things as a greenish color or it brightens the colors of things so a red would look pinkish. Any help?

    Are the screens of Nintendo DS lite compatibile with original (the "fat") Nintendo DS ?

    @snakeis666 Hmm, I have never tried, but I would imagine that would not work. The output is geared for a screen of a specific size. I also don't think the ribbon would fit the same. Let us know if it works!
