I am seriously considering fishing with my eyes closed. The backward cast really made me realize that I have a lot of “feel” I need to develop. Awesome video. Thanks for posting it.
Thanks for breaking that down. Now I know why under spins haven't worked for me. I look forward to trying this. That was fun to watch. I hope to watch more of your videos.
Big D you always make me laugh, and your videos give me something to look forward to. I can’t stand turning on my tv any more, Thank you big time bro. God Bless and peace
Had never caught anything on underspin until this past season. Right from early spring on I had great luck with it on Champlain for the smallies n of course Pike n large mouth. Good stuff, and PSYKED to see all the attention this video is getting compared to earlier ones. It's happening DD! MUCH DESERVED!
Underspins and weighted swimbaits are my fav fall/winter technique. 9 times out of 10 I will throw the underspin first. Here in NC (near Falls Lake) I like to just slowlyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy drag them on the bottom. Our water is in the 40s now but I also do this in Sept when the water is still in the 70s and it still works. This weekend fishing a river I caught a 6.8lb largemouth on a 1/4oz 5/0 Owner flashy swimmer with a BPS 4.8 speed shad swimbait just barely creeping it on the bottom. I will definitely try a fluke style bait now that you mentioned it. Makes a lot of sense. I have a bunch of 5" SK Caffeine shads.
You are a riot David. Behind the back is some funny stuff , I might have to try that . As far as the underspin , good advice. I am guilty of cranking it too fast for sure. Going to try it your way. Tight lines - best of luck out there
AWESOME video. That's hilarious doing the whole thing backwards like that. But I did learn a lot from this. Never caught a fish on an underspin, but this gives me some confidence. Thanks for this.
I would fish backwards, laying down or what ever right now . Here in upstate NY we are done for the year . I have never thought to fish a straight tail bait on a underspin . Always learning somethimg each video . Keep up the hard work !!
Most times, I'm throwing my 3/8 oz on a 7' m/f spinning rig, with ...get this 6lb mono, yup, mono. But I'm fishing mostly city park ponds that are at most 8 to 10 foot deep. Going SLOW on the bottom is the key for me..Good stuff Mr. D.D...
Well, I know now that I’m reeling my under spin too fast. I fish a lake that had tons and tons of shad in it and I can never get bit consistently on my under spin. Need to be in contact with bottom and reel slow. 👊🏼👊🏼you da man
That's too funny! Great tips and advise for the underspins! How funny would it be to watch all Pro's fish that way (backwards) in tournaments. Haha God Bless And Fish On! 🎣🎣🐟 🐟
Hi Dave!! It has been awhile brother! When you first turned around with the rod, I was trying to figure out what the heck you were doing!? And then your laugh when you hooked them, had me cracking up both times!!! Lol BTW- awesome tips on the underspin. I use a fish head spin and small Coolbaits down here on Lanier. God bless!
One of your best teaching vid! I fish on Hartwell where underspin is huge and now I know what I was doing wrong as newer basshead! Keep up the great videos and let's kick some MLF @$$ DD!! If you ever offer one on one technique training - I'll buy the first 5slots guaranteed!!
I watched a video of Dudley's a while back that I've always lived by even before I watched it. People put to much thought on rod and reel selection, a decent 7 foot medium heavy will cover just about any thing you want to do. A 7:1 reel in what ever is comfortable and affordable to you will also get the job done, just slow down or speed up depending on what you're throwing. I have recently made an exception for crankbaits though, I have only lost one fish on a crankbait after switching to a 7 foot medium moderate rod, 6.4:1 reel with 20lb braid to 10lb mono leader on smaller crankbaits and 5.4:1 on deep diving crankbaits. You will thank yourself after a day of cranking lol. Just buy what you can afford and is comfortable to you.
Great video I was curious as to why such a long leader? Maybe it’s a largemouth bass thing and water clarity. I use the under spin fishing for striped bass and Northern Snakeheads in Maryland. I use about a 3 foot leader since the fish follow the lure and it’s a chase/reaction strike half the time if not more.
Yes I use a longer leader to keep the bait deeper on long casts. With that much braid out on a long cast it will pull the bait to the top easier. When fishing shallow you don't have to use as long of a leader
Well I guess it is unanimous, keep your swimbaits straight on the hook. I just watched a video with Matt Becker and he said the same thing. Very good lesson David. Good to see you back on the tube.
DD why spinning vs baitcaster? Also when you throw a regular swimbait head no underspin are there times you rig with line through vs a jighead? Thanks. Love the channel
If I could subscribe twice I would! First the coming through the hallway to the kitchen scenario at Chickamauga now the over the back cast and catch....legendary! Like this comment if you know what I'm talking about. *Catching Bass for Cash*
Fascinating technique. Never tried it...but I will now! That was perfectly demonstrated as well. One question though: What the heck were you smoking???🤣
Very informative. Minor critique from me here. I really wanted to hear your spill about stripe vs spots but you became distracted and changed the conversation. I know you have a lot of info to cram in here lol. Awesome video!
How do you know if the blade is actually spinning.. Some of the blades are close to the bait. I have used some that hang low under the head before the blade is attached. But have issues with it not spinning?
Dud the stud can u show us how break down mapping channel swings humps ditches ext maybe on water seminar how fish set up in winter pre post spawn simmer bass migrations maybe some fish on sonar u catching
Question: I am a bank angler primarily fishing ponds with depths typically 5-10 ft. deep, main forage is minnows and Gills (some Crappie), and have no Shad. I'm in the South and the bottom is mud, stumps, lay-downs, dead-fall, and Sago Pond Weed. How *should* I be fishing an underspin?
When you are fishing that deep. Does the float of the braid affect the way you fish it? I keep a 4000 spinning reel with 8 lb sniper fluro on it for fishing on Smith Lake in Alabama. I have never thrown a underspin on that lake but it’s a herring lake and Casey Ashley won the Classic on a Herring lake in So. Carolina with that horse head underspin his father poured him up. So I am going to have to go up there this fall or winter. I hated that lake until it got invaded by bluebacks. I still don’t have a clue how to fish a lake that deep. Not a lot of deep water on the Coosa. It’s like going from fishing in a muddy shoe print to fishing in a giant bathtub full of tap water. I like fishing bluff walls with stair steps with a little Texas Rig or a finesse jig. But that’s in the summer. An old man I had never met taught me that technique when he saw me fishing docks and catching nothing. He was just sitting on his dock shelling peas and he gave me a 30 minute lesson on how to fish a bluff wall directly across the slew from his dock. I caught 10 nice spots just casting onto the top of the wall which was dry and barely dragging a finesse worm until I learned to feel the fall and watch my line. I was sitting in 100 feet of water, casting straight up onto the top of the bluff. That is the only time I have used straight fluro on a spinning reel since I finally decided to trust a connection knot that I tied a leader on with. I hate to tie 10 or 15 lb braid to 8 lb fluro worse than I hate fishing the spinning rod it’s on. I am farsighted as heck and I hate tedious stuff. I’m no watch maker
Thanks for the quick course about spinner baits! Most definitely a very unique technique that’s very simple to follow. Now, casting backwards and actually catching bass Priceless!! Too funny!! Big fan here David, keep ‘em coming!
I have a 10 year old son loves your videos he wants to fish all the time we could use any old baits u don't want any more would like to put him in fishing in school need help thanks
This fool is so funny. Glad I subscribe to your channel after you had me rolling during a tournament at the end of this year. You were grabbing her out the kitchen. 🤣🤣🤣
What if I catch em on an underspin in 5 ft of water on a baitcaster? All those one pounders, practicing for the BPT I see and those looked like spots....
Would you personally give the underspin/ditch drains legitimate effort if you were trying to catch them on the TN River in the winter? Or is the water not clear enough so the fish don't set up the same in those ditches?🤔
Well, no surprise your using the “RockStar” behind the back cast😜🤷🏻♂️ I use it myself once in awhile 👍😂 You knocked it outta the park with this one, and I first watched it on my phone, but, I can’t comment on my phone, so I had to get home to tell you congrats on your channel growth. I’m gonna make a prediction that you’re gonna quadruple your DDOutdoors #’s in 2020 even more 😉🎯🎣💥🎣🤷🏻♂️ I also want to repeat a question already asked, what power Rod is that Profishency Rod,and what spinning reel do you have paired up with it. I am definitely getting myself a Profishency spinning rod in the 7’2” length...( I’ve already mailed my letter to 🎅) 😜👍😂😂
I am seriously considering fishing with my eyes closed. The backward cast really made me realize that I have a lot of “feel” I need to develop. Awesome video. Thanks for posting it.
Thanks for breaking that down. Now I know why under spins haven't worked for me. I look forward to trying this. That was fun to watch. I hope to watch more of your videos.
Wow not even trying and you catch fish. Who knew so many intricacies with an under spin. You are the man. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for answering all the questions that I had. Blessings to you and yours. Merry Christmas to everyone !
Thank you popa
“He didn’t know I’m looking at him” oh my gosh I’m dying, great way to end that informative segment!

Always I will quit when I stop!
Awesome to see a pro get excited and react like us.

Hahah I'm the same way Eddie I don't watch much TV either
This demonstration is top notch
Looks like Lake Norman. Typical size and action of Norman fish. Hope you have a great holiday!
Great video Dave, and soooo funny at the end!!!! Loved it!
I told myself if he catches one backwards like that i would subscribe. You just got a sub man. I love it man
Man that's crazy! Lovin it David. Cant wait for more

I can’t seem to catch them while facing them so I’m going to try turning around so “they don’t think I’m watching”😂. Too funny! Thanks David.
Don't share that secret water dog!
Awesome video such a good video I watched all the ads I learn a lot from your videos thank you
I always learn from you david. And you make it fun. That's what fishing is all about.. great job, keep it up.
Had never caught anything on underspin until this past season. Right from early spring on I had great luck with it on Champlain for the smallies n of course Pike n large mouth. great video thanks for showing this not talked about a lot! You going to come to kerr this winter again great video last year

Can't wait to see you soon in Cincinnati at the expo
Cannot wait to see you on BPT. You're a nut. Keep it up.
Always fun to watch.
AWESOME video. That's hilarious doing the whole thing backwards like that. But I did learn a lot from this. Never caught a fish on an underspin, but this gives me some confidence. Thanks for this.
Great video .Love the underspin David and have figured out the Smalljaws like dropping it too the bottom and fishing it like a spoon sometimes.
Awesome DD. All time money leader still goofing around and having a blast
I would fish backwards, laying down or what ever right now . Here in upstate NY we are done for the year . I have never thought to fish a straight tail bait on a underspin . Always learning somethimg each video . Keep up the hard work !!

Great info once again! The behind the head cast and catch was insane! We need to fish together one day! God bless brother!
This sounds like a great lure for shallow water. Flats fishing for redfish, trout, snook.
I've been fishing it wrong all this time. Awesome video as usual.
Very informative and fun, thx a million 😀
Well, I know now that I’m reeling my under spin too fast. I fish a lake that had tons and tons of shad in it and I can never get bit consistently on my under spin. Need to be in contact with bottom and reel slow. 👊🏼👊🏼you da man
Not always on bottom but most winter time fishing is on bottom! Thanks for watching Jason!
That's too funny! Great tips and advise for the underspins! How funny would it be to watch all Pro's fish that way (backwards) in tournaments. Haha God Bless And Fish On! 🎣🎣🐟 🐟
Loved the backwards catches 😂. After watching this video I am sure I have been fishing it to fast. Thanks David.

Yea mike they are a killer on Lanier
David, would love to see a video on using live sight. Thank you
lol That was crazy DD!! Some much fun!
Another great video David, when would you start with an underspin vs. spybait on a clear water lake like dale hollow?
Spy bait is mainly for suspended fish underpin can target both!
Is that Darth Vader running the cam? Sounds like vaders breathing...lol
He's breathing like one of those scary phone calls! 😂😂😂
Great video! Nice lessons on the underspin would have like to see if there was a difference between the paddle tail and straight tail!
If you were serious I actually do offer coaching trips you can go to my website DaviDudley.com
Hey David. I’m looking to pick up a Spinning reel and now after learning much from you, which brand and power rod do you recommend?
What kind of lures/techniques are you wanting to use? Figuring that out will be your 1st step then you can find a rod and reel to match.
I the 7.2 MH profishencey rod with a Revo 30 reel
Get a 3000 over a 2500. Better handle , more inches per turn , and most the time .1 ounce heavier.
Yes I use a longer leader to keep the bait deeper on long casts. With that much braid out on a long cast it will pull the bait to the top easier. When fishing shallow you don't have to use as long of a leader
Thanks really good advice thanks for your advice 👍🎣👊
Well I guess it is unanimous, keep your swimbaits straight on the hook. I just watched a video with Matt Becker and he said the same thing. Very good lesson David. Good to see you back on the tube.
Thanks for the lesson!!This absolute hilarious Fishing backwards 😂👍
DD why spinning vs baitcaster? Also when you throw a regular swimbait head no underspin are there times you rig with line through vs a jighead? Thanks. Love the channel
Probably for the slower speed reel.
I think it is easier to free spool , so it can get straight to the bottom.
Longer casts free spool when I go above half ounce I go to bait caster
I'm gonna try the underspin while wearing a suit jacket. They would never suspect a guy dressed that way would be fishing. Thanks for the info.👍
Great vid lol 👍 patent the finesse no look technique
If I could subscribe twice I would! First the coming through the hallway to the kitchen scenario at Chickamauga now the over the back cast and catch....legendary! Like this comment if you know what I'm talking about. *Catching Bass for Cash*
What straight tail style baits do you suggest?
Hey David, would a spunk shad (straight tail) soft plastic work just as well?
Fascinating technique. Never tried it...but I will now! That was perfectly demonstrated as well. One question though: What the heck were you smoking???🤣
I fish a under spin with a soft plastic swim bait for saltwater Pier fishing Year around for halibut 👍🏼🎣
Great video David. What lake were you fishing on?
You better practice releasing the fish below the funnel. Lol. Can't wait to watch you on MLF. !!
Is the proficiency Rod medium or medium heavy?
Merry Christmas From The Cooper's Cleburne,Texas
Merry Christmas Todd
subbed just because you fish backwards, I'd like to see that via topwater!
Very informative. Minor critique from me here. I really wanted to hear your spill about stripe vs spots but you became distracted and changed the conversation. I know you have a lot of info to cram in here lol. Awesome video!
Yes I got distracted
You are the Jimi Hendrix of bass fishing!
Can you do a segment on whether bass are just picky at times... or are too smart?
Hahahaha! Love the over-the-shoulder technique!!
How do you know if the blade is actually spinning.. Some of the blades are close to the bait. I have used some that hang low under the head before the blade is attached. But have issues with it not spinning?

I’m totally using this with my girls lolol, turn backwards they won’t know you’re fishing for them.....From an AOY WINNER!😂
Hahahah I hope the girls catch a giant!
Thanks for the quick course about spinner baits! Most definitely a very unique technique that’s very simple to follow. Now, casting backwards and actually catching bass Priceless!! Too funny!! Big fan here David, keep ‘em coming!
That was fun!
in your opinion, who makes the best underspin?
Lmao at the end....for that u got a new sub!
I read the description and all I could hear in my head was the line from Pretty Woman "I decide WHO!!! I decide WHEN!!! I decide WHO!!!!".
That's funny Ron!
Does this work for a guy in Minnesota?
I have a 10 year old son loves your videos he wants to fish all the time we could use any old baits u don't want any more would like to put him in fishing in school need help thanks
I love ❤ your videos son!
Tomahwk choppin um love it...that’s what we do down here in Braves country
how is a straight tail different from a fluke?
This fool is so funny. Glad I subscribe to your channel after you had me rolling during a tournament at the end of this year. You were grabbing her out the kitchen. 🤣🤣🤣
Ur da man!!👍🏻
Ur behind the back cast and catches r quite a bit unique, lol!🤣👊
That was some weird asmr with all of that breathing. =P. great vid brother
What if I catch em on an underspin in 5 ft of water on a baitcaster? All those one pounders, practicing for the BPT I see and those looked like spots....
Rename the show "The Fishing Ninja". Is it possible to give a little more info? Lol. Great video Dave. Thanks ...outro
Hahah good thought thanks for watching!
I've had some in my box for decades because they look like they should work. Yet, in 20-plus years, I've never caught a fish on and under spin.
That’s like the behind the back shot...lol. Hey David what weight do you typically like to use for that setup?
I always start with 3/8 then maybe switch to a half
Would you personally give the underspin/ditch drains legitimate effort if you were trying to catch them on the TN River in the winter? Or is the water not clear enough so the fish don't set up the same in those ditches?🤔
Purdy Good!
Great video you are s fish wisper.
Holy Sh*% DD is the Jimmy Hendrix of bass fishing!!!!!
I really did LOL
David Dudley Outdoors now go full on Jimmy catch with your teeth!!!! Hahaha.
Keep up the goodness brother.

It is the MH 7.2 spinning rod. I really hope the channel keeps growing. You have been a great support to the channel from the beginning!
I’ll be here when you break 50K subs, then 100K, meanwhile tell me when to meet you at Buggs/Kerr for some more training 🎣🤷🏻♂️😜🎯
Sounds like brainy in Hey Arnold!! Somebody get Helga to sock him in the face😂
You can will AOY in MLF, I know you can! Lets do it DD! Put your head down and get it done!
