  • Don't keep fishing your flukes the same old way! Today we're showing you underwater footage of new and exciting ways to rig a fluke for bass fishing! Are your clear water fish line shy? Are they in deep water? Do you prefer a magnum fluke? We've got a method to rig a soft jerkbait that will help you catch more bass today! Matt is showing us rigging, different sink rates, hook styles and more, in today's in-depth look at Fall fluke fishing for bass.
Matt begins with basic texas-rigging of an unweighted Zoom Super Fluke. From there he explains sink rates between a Fluke, Shiver Glide, Bass Assassin, and Caffeine Shad. He re-introduces the nose rig method of finesse fishing a fluke then wraps it up with an all-new rigging that combines a swinging hook with a nose weight to fool deep water bass. If the explanations aren't enough we back it up with underwater bass fishing footage to show how the lures move underwater and how the bass react to them. No matter how you rig it or where you fish, there is information in this video that will help you catch more soft jerkbait fish.
Fluke fishing (soft jerkbait fishing) is one of the most exciting ways to catch Fall bass. As they move into the shallows you can effectively target bass that are blowing up on bait but also those that hang below and refuse to rise to the surface. With the addition of the weighted nose rig, you can now effectively reach deep water bass that are ambushing baitfish as well. The fluke is an incredibly versatile tool that should be in every bass angler's box. If you haven't been using it effectively, you're not alone. Many bass fisherman overlook the soft jerkbait for Fall bass, but now you have the tools you'll need to put it to work this Fall.
Below is a breakdown of the baits and equipment that were discussed in this video as well as rod and reel recommendations for soft jerkbaits.

Definitely one of the best. TB videos can get kind of long for me but there’s definitely a ton of good info. I think my favorite fishing channel has to be TH-cam Fishing Vids. Cornell knows his stuff and gets it done. Also, don’t sleep on Kickin their bass TV. Noah is super knowledgeable and not insufferable like the googans.

Flukes are hands down one of the best baits to ever exist for just about everything from bass in a pond to catching big red drum off the beach on Texas rigged flukes with bullet sinkers. Works for just about everything. Spent some time in the hospital back to health now glad the TB family is still here. Love y'all

Try fishing a magnum fluke on a wobble head or a scrounged head for those deeper fish... if on bottom is use the wobble and if suspended is use a scrounged!
    WORKS!

Matt, try nose hooking with a Gammy Shiner (Kahles) hook. You pull more in-line with the nose of the bait.

Super fluke is best with 8lb fluorocarbon in my experience. Anything heavier takes away the action that the bait was designed to do. Double fluke rig is my favorite. The fluke on the floating swivel is 4 or 5 inches in front of the fluke on the main line. They dart side to side in sync with each other and looks like one is chasing the other. Deadly 🔥🎣🎣

I’m an avid fluke swimming shad user. I love those zoom baits! But thank you for the rigging tips! That gave me a lot to think about.
I get a pretty heavy strike ratio, but have been getting a lot of spit baits or missed hook ups. I also fish Florida shallow water mostly so will definitely be trying some of those rigging tips. thanks! I didn’t know they usually swallow head first on those.

Great video Matt. I have used several of your suggestions this summer, ie Revenge Spinnerbait, to catch my personal best this fall, 6lb 6 oz largemouth, and to catch fish all season long. You said, and you were right, the spinnerbait was like the forgotten bait with everyone going to paddle tails SB and this year it was almost like the fish were hitting the spinnerbait like they had never seen it before. I am eager to try the flukes, as I don't see many folks fishing them where I am and I am hoping it is another example of the overlooked/forgotten bait. Thanks for the tips and keep the videos coming.

KPbassKing 1 I run Power Pro 30 lb to 17 lb Vanish Fluorocarbon, I don’t ever have any issues with it when throwing the right weight of baits for the rod. Maybe check your brakes/spool tension to make sure is isn’t overrunning on the initial “whip” of the cast, or even slow down your cast. Otherwise, I would check your line, you have a knot hiding in there somewhere.

I can fish 1 peice of structure as long as I want without casting again at ANY depth, 2 feet of line gives me plenty to make it dart and jump. I admit I am a finesse junkie but I do this with baits 2-8 inches long all year long.... yes even ice fishing lmb!

Newbie here. Been watching a couple of weeks now and I’ve got a question: How in the heck can you possibly have less than 3million subscribers?? With all you do in one video it’s insane!
I used to fish (eastern NC) saltwater 40 years ago. But you know how that goes: jobs, marriage, kids, etc. When I came to YT I thot I was on another planet! No shrimp-sacrileg!!!
But I’m learning slowly but surely. Been “on the bench” for a little over a year and am close to getting set loose!!
So, would you have any other listeners who could benefit from a video on what the differences between the effect of fresh, brackish, and salt water creeks?? I mean I know about the weight issue with pure salt water, but I have no idea what, or if, there are adjustments for the way lures be affected.
    I hope that made sense.
Thanks for all the practical knowledge you provide ... ESPECIALLY those links!!!
    Tight lines!

I need to try this ! I have wonderful luck and a jerkbait is my confidence bait but the fluke I can't seem to buy a hookset, always seems like I just yank it out of their mouth any tips besides nose hooking ? I'm clearly doing something wrong

Zoom's plastic is more durable but I am sick of getting baits with bent tails and other problems. I bought a pack earlier this week and the belly split was uneven. Almost all the baits had one side of the belly at the split hanging down more than the other side. It was lopsided. They have poor QC at Zoom. The Caffeine Shad to me has a more natural presentation but they aren't very durable. I have had them start to tear after jerking them hard for a few casts but the 5" is my go to this time of year.

Your videos are always helpful. I just wish I could go fishing more. Most places are posted where I live, but have to find areas. I did go to a lake on New Year's evening and smashed the bass on a Xcalibur jerkbait and on a black/blue flake creature bait on the bottom. 🙂I caught 13 in a about 2 1/2 hours; most were between 2 1/2 - 4lbs.

I stumbled across the Reaction Innovations last year and use them fairly often. I have not tried these particular ones, I use the little dipper & Big Dipper sexy shad. Have had a lot of success with this particular color and the Little Dipper. Looks like I'll be giving these a try now. Thanks for the video guys, been following you for over a year now and you have helped me catch fish for sure. Keep the videos coming.

I honestly think the "senko" is a better option.... But it's close tho... In shallow water is really where they both perform... Maybe 2 split shots about 16-18 inches away from the bait and small twitches is absolutely deadly when it's used correctly... Because it still has a somewhat weightless movement...

That screw technique reminds me of the banjo minnow from the 90s lol. (saw the banjo is back) 😁. I was gifted some eagle claw 5/0 worm hooks. Would those still work on a super fluke?

My go to lure is the super fluke. It always gets bites but I don’t get many big bites on it anymore. I try different colors and retrieves but no luck. I’m thinking a hard jerkbait might work because it’s more realistic. Any suggestions? I’m fishing for largemouth in off color water and my best colors are pearl white, blue glimmer and silver rainbow if that helps.

I didn't have to see this footage to know that fish attack the head first. All fish that I know of have dorsal fins that have only two functions: to help with steering when swimming, and to prevent any attacks from behind by being slightly angled back(like a barb, but opposite). This just seemed like common sense to my kid self back in the day

@TacticalBassin thought you may give credit to the banjo minnow for that screw and nose hook method. Fluke is better imo. But it’s the banjo minnow.

I am surprised he didn't mention the Zulu or Donkey Rig for fluke fishing. That is bad ass!!

  • @chadwoodward2402
    @chadwoodward2402 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Nose rigging isn't new the Banjo Minnow did that decades ago. A very small elastic attached to the eye of the hook pulled to the barb will make it weedless. It's the only as seen on TV lure that actually worked incredibly well.

Why don’t you use a belly weighted hook I like the screw lock swimbait hooks or even the non screw lock it doesent change the action too much and makes it fall horizontal I use a 1/8 or 1/16 oz and it is deadly

The first time I used one, I had no idea what to do. I had a 1/0 mosquito hook on for wacky. I ran it through the spine with the point coming out the top. Twitched it in shallow water, and changed my day. Slayed them.

Okay, here is a question. I rigged up with 30lb braid. I can only afford one all-around rod and reel, and I use spinning gear, because I'm terrible with a casting reel. My only problem with braid, is that it's a pain in the butt to switch baits as much as I do. I have a 7-foot medium-heavy action Bass Pro Shop Pole, and a quantum spinning reel, and 12 lb Cajun line. So my question, is what would be the best all-around line for me? Should I go to fluorocarbon? BTW on fishing from the bank.

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The best thing to do is practice tying leader knots. They you can carry 2 different leaders (lighter and heavier) and be able to do everything with that rod. If that's too much, then yes, going to a fluorocarbon will make it more relaxing for you.
