Great video, Ive set this up for my child, is there anything stoping my child from logging in from another account created by someone else, or another way of putting it can I lock it to the child account?
You can set it up so that adult accounts have a pin that you need to enter in order to use them. That's what I do, though my kid is actually pretty good.
Hi Thanks a ton for this video indeed very helpful. I have one question. Just bought a new console for kid so does he need to first time sign in with his new id or my old id on new console? will he be able to see my content?
Sorry to bother you. We have 3 Xbox’s in our house mine and 2 of my boys we have not yet set them up. Your video has helped loads. Please can I ask can I do this for more than one child and do I need to be signed into there Xbox for them to do it Thanks again
Great video! Would you clarify the bit about the child account being able to access your games through his account. Did you set his console as your home console? Because I had always understood the Xbox allowing other users to play on only you home console without requiring you to stay sign in.
NazmusLabs Yes, that’s correct. I actually made a video a while ago showing how to set up game sharing on the Xbox. Basically you set your kid’s console as your home console and your console as his home console. And I then set my console to log me in automatically. That way my kid can play the games I’ve bought on both consoles (as you can have more than one person logged on at once). It gets a lot more complicated when you try to do it on more than two consoles.
Joe Chip ah, gocha. Makes sense. Also, earlier last year, after gamepass for PCs launched, I learned that you can now have two “home” device: 1 PC and 1 Xbox. you can also set one PC as your “home” PC and have the same abilities to share those games. You can go to the Microsoft Store settings to set a PC as offline. Then, other users on the PC can play even when there’s no internet connection. Just like the console, you can change your “home/offline” pc 3 a maximum of 3 times per year. P.S. this setting only applies to Xbox game titles and not yours typical store apps and games. They continue to use the standard Windows 10’s MS Store licensing policy of installing on up to 10 PCs, all of which can use the apps offline.
So you can use a xbox live account for the whole family? What about if 2 of my kids are wanting to play online at the same time from 2 xbox's but both of their accounts are under the family?
That’s going to be a lot more difficult, and is why I made a video ages ago saying that Game Sharing on the Xbox and the PS4 wasn’t fit for purpose. I’d prefer family members to be able to play games on their accounts no matter which console they were on but that’s not how it works, unfortunately.
I made the mistake of setting the xbox for my kid to use my Microsoft account (have other Microsoft services attached to it). Needless to say he loves gaming and now I wish I would have created a child account. But I don't what him to lose all his contacts and achievements. I know I can change the email for the Xbox account to his, but how do I go about making me the parent and my kid the child without and keep everything connected and put me in charge of everything?
I’ve not tried this, so you’re going to need to experiment (carefully) but you could create a new adult account, then make that family manager. You should then be able to change the age on you old account (now your kid’s account) and add it to family. That should then give you control over you kid’s access setting etc. As I say, I’ve not tried it, so you could encounter issues. Let me know how you get on.
What about xbox series x? Will I be able to do it in the same way? I mean that my kids and myself have a microsoft accounts already but they never had an Xbox, so we have to login only? What about games from pc? Will we be able to play on Xbox?
just a question i have to set this up for my parents who have a foster child so woul i make a account in my dads name ? and add the child ? and how dose it work for game pass do i add it to the childs account or my parents ?
Yes, make an adult account first and make that the family manager. Then add the child account. Set the console as the home console for the adult account and set the child account to log on automatically. You can then buy Game Pass with the adult account but have access to the games from the child account. Hope that helps.
Hi Joe, I was wondering if you can help me please? I’ve watched your video and understand how to do it all, my problem is that we have one console in our house. I am not a gamer and this is for my son, am I best setting up an Xbox live account in my name and entering him as a family member just? So I download games on my live account and he can be signed in to play them ? I will probably not be signed in very much just to download new games etc, it will be him logged in. Would this be the best way ? Sorry and many thanks for your help. Dani
How old is your son. If he’s under twelve, then I’d definitely set it up the way you mention. If he’s older than twelve then that will best be left to your judgement. If he’s a sensible kid then you may be able to get away with just giving him an adult account. That could get dodgy when it comes to purchases etc, though. You definitely wouldn’t want him to be able to just log in and buy anything he wants, as that can cause real problems. Then there’s the issue of online contacts etc. Personally, I’d set up your account and set the console as your home console. I’d also put a pin on your account, so only you can access it. Then set up his child account and add it as a family member. Once that’s done, set his account up so that it logs on automatically on boot-up. That way, your son can play to his hearts content with very little input from you but he won’t be able to purchase anything without your permission. You’ll also need to set up all the different settings on his account, so that you’re happy with his online access etc but that will probably take a bit of trial and error. Hope that helps.
@@JoeChip thank you. He’s only 6 so I will set him up as a family member. Would I be best downloading games onto my account or onto his once it’s set up ? Sorry for all the questions
@@daniboyd3391 I tended to buy games on my account that my lad could them play through his account (because he’s in the family group). There are pros and cons with that, though. The main one being that they are technically your games, not his. If the games are suitable for his age-group you could buy them under his account but that’s not entirely without problems either. You’d need to set up payment limits etc, so he can’t overspend, or buy games using gift cards. It will all depend on what works best for you.
Actually, it’s possible to unlock pretty much everything on child accounts with the Xbox. My lad’s account is pretty open. It took a bit of tweaking but he barely notices that it’s a child account.
