- Music by Steve Hackett & Co.
Guitar solo version arranged by Christos Patras.
I found this finger-style arrangement of the piece some years ago and I had always wanted to record it since then. I opted for some multi-tracking for the second part, hope you don't mind ;)

Man, what a work to emulate piano on a acoustic guitar! Props to you! Super!
10 years later, and still one of the best videos on TH-cam, and the only nice performance on nylon that I’ve seen. Thanks for this man! It warms my soul
Super ! I could quite believe Steve is playing... Give us more Genesis guitar covers !
This might sound cheesy, but this music made me feel like i was flying above the clouds. Awesome guitar playing!
That was so cool, love the bending of the strings and classical guitar stuff to start with! Keep going with the Genesis melodies!😊
Thanks again, Laura!
Amazing job looks highly complex but then Mr Hackett is a genius.
Human hands at their best. Well done mate.
great rendition, Alex. The opening section is obviously quite difficult. You pulled it off admirably. bravo once again.
Just found this - SO beautiful on nylon string! Fun to watch how it's played on electric in second part.
Nice to hear this fleshed out as a guitar piece. As great a player as Hackett is, you took the whole thing and arranged it wonderfully for just guitar. Excellent!
I can't stop watching your video...
I want to learn it this way too!
Pure awesomeness!
The electric was quite a surprise and you certainly had this fabulous Genesis piece nailed. Excellent stuff and very well enjoyed the top job.
A great track from my all-time favorite album. Thanks a lot!! :)
Wow this is beautiful. To be honest, After The Ordeal was one of my less favourite songs on Selling England By The Pound, but after hearing your cover, I have a greater understanding of the beauty of this piece. Great cover!
Sei stato formidabile. Era un pezzo difficilissimo!
Man, I love your channel. Your covers and arrangements are amazing. Congratulations!! Sometimes, I sleep listening to your songs
Wow that was beautiful. I love all your Genesis covers
FANTASTIC! RESPECT for this work!
That's just lovely. One of my all time favorites. We might have to add this to our queue!
The most intriguing and beautiful song on the record.
el mejor cover en TH-cam de After the Ordeal por lejos.
Gran trabajo!
delightful...makes you realise how subtle steve hackett is too! thank you!
I love the "The Musical Box" t-shirt you're wearing! And a nice rendition of a favorite instrumental from SEBTP, thanks!
very beautiful - quite the labor of love. You did great.
The most underrated thing on "Selling England;" glad you included it - nice take!
Maravilloso. Como el mismísimo Steve. Bravo.
Amazing rendition! You managed to capture many of the subtle details of the song, so much better than all other covers I've seen so far! :) Great work!

@Picaresque19
Thanks a lot Picaresque! I tweaked that arrangement a bit but praise goes to Christos. By the way, your cover of "The Colony of the Slippermen" is one the most original I've seen on YT. Keep rocking!
gorgeous
Thanks!
Bravo, Alex!
excellent interpretation Alex looked like a few killer chord shapes going on in that
Incredible. Nice job!
Thanks a lot, Michael!
¡Muy bonito!
Que MARAVILHA!
I love the arrangement for guitar solo indeed (-:
¡Que maravilla! Muchas gracias. Suscrito.
Just a little funny that a friend of mine just informed me , more than 5 years after your recording about the video !
It was one of my first fingerstyle arrangements 10 years ago to powertabs site and it was rather obscure there !
Flattered for your choice , too kind to mention my (nick)name also , you see on that period we felt like an outcast , violating the copyright of publishing companies even for just free arrangements !
Oh man, have I been waiting for your response to this. This one was maybe the only musical notation you could find for this piece back then. You must had been the only guy publishing prog repertoire for solo guitar back then at that site (and the internet!).
I remember you also had "Lady of the Dancing Water" for solo which inspired me to record my video (even if it's not solo) and stuff from Yes (Starship Tropper?) Also, just rightly after I posted the 2nd movement of the Ravel piano concerto I realized you had posted your own solo arrangement to that which made me realize how similar our musical tastes were.
So sad to find that the site was nuked after a short while just when I was expecting more of your amazing altruistic contributions.
It would be great to know about your whereabouts and current activities, Christos! Thanks for your inspiration.
I must admit that all the credits on the electrical solo part ... return completely to you with your inspired decision to make a duet with yourself !
Keep on this very nice job you are making , I'll certainly find some time to have a look on your other recordings as well.
I've seen so many different tab sites in the past that had for a while the tabs that we were uploading on powertabs (certainly without any permission at all) but in nowadays most of them are not active anymore (the unspeakable claim for the copyright violation that I mentioned above !)
I ' ve actually made more than 60 arrangements (from Randy Newman to Steely Dan , Frank Zappa Marvin Gaye , Philip Glass or Ennio Morricone plus a few uncommon names like Prefab Sprout , Wim Mertens and Nicola Piovani) and I certainly continue preparing new ones whenever I find a little time and a proper song to blow my mind !
I have revised some of them lately for a private guitar site but there was not any interest at all for such "amateur" stuff (though I can claim of a ...dozen years of classical guitar education!) so I stopped there and I was really thinking of uploading them here some certain time !
You can find some great guitarists with excellent guitar solo arrangements here (e.g. Guido Mancino) but so rarely they share their own arrangements anymore .
Have a nice time !
What a shame you couldn't find people interested in your arrangements at that site, they don't know what they're missing.
It would be great though if you could share some of them here somehow, I guess they will have more public exposure on TH-cam than at any of those sites.
As for my arrangements I try to share the notation for them whenever I can and find the time to write them down (just tab though). You can find their interpretations at the proper section on my channel. I still have some more that I haven't recorded yet.
Let me reccomend you, in case you don't know yet, this channel: th-cam.com/users/troubleclef
He's been a fantastic source of inspiration for arranging and generally playing guitar for many years. He has an incredibly smart approach to the pieces, very resourceful subtle playing and is amazingly rich harmonically.
Hope to hear more from you soon!
christos patras ..any chance i could get the tabs??? Is it a similar arrangement?
I also would like to get the tab. I am doing a set of Hackett music and would love to add this. Please let me know.
sei un grande.
Well done!
Well done
Lovely
@pleatedskirt18
Hope he likes it. I'm also looking forward to see Steve when he comes to my country.
very very nice my friend!
Excellent version. Looked like some bone-crunching fretboard work on the acoustic part :o) By the way, is that the T-shirt for the band Musical Box ? Saw them play TLLDOB in its entirety with all the original costumes and props.....mind-blowingly good, they were !
Great post.
Cheers,
Jim
Very nice like how you switched to solo.
Just added this to my playlist for the after party for my Fran Dunnery house Concert! Sure he'll like it.
Frankie D!! Nice one, hope he enjoyed it.
Muito bom!!!
@troubleclef
Sure, there are some tricky classical arpeggios going on on that part. Similar to the ones you can find in many classical guitar pieces from the 18th century (e.g. Giuliani's Grand overture). Thanks for stopping by Tony!
This was extremely impressive !!!!!!!!!!! If you can do Steve Hacket , Buddy You're REAL GOOD !!!
I like this
Greate! wish i can play it!
Super !
envidio tu habilidad.
yes!!!
@hyperboreal Alex, you are so brilliant.
