28 years old and YES is one of my favorite bands. When music is this beautiful, age plays no role in admiring its existence. It’s pure bliss. That is why anyone can say “yes” to YES.

Aside from Rick's obvious mastery of the piano, this video is also great for trying to understand the brilliance of the original composition. Hearing it stripped down is really enlightening to just how many crazy modulations and false transitions (not sure what to call it) the song has yet still works even on a solo instrument. Truly some of the best of their time.

I think Wakeman's from this planet. I totally understand what he does. He's absolutely amazing. But I understand it. If I could play as fast and gracefully as he does, there is a chance my music would sound something like his.
However, I will accept the premise that my other favorite keyboard player, Keith Emerson, was not from this planet. There were two separate brains controlling each of Emerson's hands. And even with two separate brains, there is no way I could ever compose anything that remotely resembled Emerson's music. My creative brain just doesn't go there.
When I saw Wakeman, my response was an adrenaline packed "Yeah! Awesome!" When I saw Emerson I pretty much stood there with a smirk of disbelief on my face, like "this has got to be a trick--no one can do that, classical training or not." Emerson being from another world would also explain things.
They're my two favorite keyboard players of all time. Don't ask me to choose between them. :-)

Regarding numerous other comments, it's not "out of sync" nor is it a video someone haphazardly put to a different audio track... he clearly is playing what is essentially the same arrangement of the same song, though not identically so. He appears to be in effect "miming" to the recording he had already completed, the way most bands routinely lip-sync in their videos. He just didn't play it exactly the same way each time.

The first time I heard this guy's work (way WAY back) I was entranced. So different from most everything that was being produced at the time. We had a really progressive radio station called WORJ (Orlando, Fl, which later turned to junk, yeah, both basically) that when they first started would play entire albums without a single interruption, including performers like Rick. It was radio heaven...closer to XMS than anything you'd hear on the radio now (at least here).

I've always thought that artistic ability come down to two things: having deep complex thoughts and being able to convey them. It doesn't take intense training as much as determination and patience to learn to think abstractly. After that, all that really matters is learning music theory (which is basically a science).

My all time favourite Yes album. Wakeman’s piano interpretation is wonderful. Not quite the same thing, but reminiscent of the Liszt/Beethoven transcriptions. It’s amazing how much music you can get out of a piano when you know what you’re doing.

However, Right after ''l get up, l get down'' comes that UNFORGETABLE solo of his, and you can't help but want him to cut loose on that screamin' synth/organ thing. lt would be great to hear a piano version!
