    Nice philip! I made a christmas game myself for my friends but half an hour is seriously short. I'm very comfortable with my own engine but it still took me an hour to make breakout. my last 2 games showed me that to create any interesting game mechanic and turn it into a workable experience I need 12 hours. once again you're a great motivator for my own game making journey 👍

      I doubt it. It's just a voiceover with some b roll. Probably took about the same amount of time.

    • @unfa00
      @unfa00 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Robstrap I disagree. Writing alone probably took 20+ minutes. Recording voice overs also never works with the 1st take, unless you don't care about the quality. So voice over is another 20 minutes. Then editing - another 20 minutes to skim through the footage and select bits for b-roll. Then 5 minutes to record the intro, another 15 for export and test watch, add 25 for a fix iteration and re-export and there you go. At least 1.5 hours. That's an optimistic estimate from someone who's made quite a few videos in their life.

    This game is kinda brilliant and also surprisingly addictive. I rebooted my MacBook Pro into Windows 10, discovered it didn't like the touchpad (I'd guess some issue with Bootcamp 6 drivers, Logitech USB mouse to the rescue) and then ended up playing it for what felt like 5 minutes but was actually an hour. I got to Level 3 once.
    It reminds me of a combination of Skifree, Pac-man and a few notable Flash games from the late 90s), the development video is a fascinating insight into how to code and compile efficiently with a tiny timeframe, spoken to camera in a personable and engaging way.
    Some observations :-
    * The hitbox on the houses should extend to the edges. As a strategy I was trying to bounce off of the edges and found I could almost never nail it as the hitbox is a little small.
    * The executable is surprisingly tiny. I expected over 10MB and it's about 6MB. That impressed me.
    * I love bad puns, so the chosen name is just perfect.
    * Difficulty level is just about spot on.
    * Game never really feels cheap when the player dies; they have a certain number of advantages which balances it out rather well.
    I know the likelihood of reading and responding to TH-cam comments is quite small but If you have future games, I'd love to alpha/beta test them. I make excellent constructive notes like these and have been playing games around 30 years (since I was about 5).
