    Thanks for reviewing my car!!! Great job on the video! Car has 141K miles now, shifting okay (think it just needs transmission fluid) the previous owner did lower it. The only downside is that it leaks rainwater into the trunk and it seeps into the spare tire well. It is still getting 40 mpg on the highway

      Spray flex seal all around the rubber gaskets of the trunk and the rubber gaskets around the back door. That solved it for my 2008 5-speed Fit sport. And by the way mine's running up at 380,000 miles

    Just to fill you folks in, this car is my daily. The week before this was filmed I was in Texas for almost the entire week, then the day before this was filmed I drove to Eastern Oregon for a car show (that’s where I got the 40 mpg, eastern WA and OR are as flat as Nebraska), so I didn’t really have a ton of time to clean it. My dad has a 2nd gen odyssey I use for the places I can’t take the fit (forest service roads and such). Other than that, I take it everywhere. This is my work car and play car if you wanna put it that way. I’ve put 32,000 miles on it in less than a year. I live in rural WA so I gotta haul a lot of stuff

    I drive an 07 manual honda fit, This thing is an absolute tank. 213,000 miles. I paid $1500 for the thing back in 2019, and I've lived out of it for afew months, I took it across the country. Its the most reliable thing I've ever driven. I started doordash alittle over a year ago, and have had zero issues with it. I've been able to make alot of money because of the insane reliability of this car. I seriously think fits are one of the world's best cars

      I have a 07 manual as well. Not the sport just the base. I just hit 214k miles. My only issues are related to rust, I live in Pittsburgh. Aside from that. The manual is a must for Honda reliability as far as I'm concerned. I had a 89 civic si and put 340k on it. The only car that I was able to put more miles on was a 87 toyota celica 444k on that one. They were both manual of course. The Toyota only had 2nd, 4th, and 5th. it got impounded and it would have cost more to get it back than I paid for it. Japanese manuals are extremely reliable. I had Volkswagen manual with clutch issues at just over 100k.

      All I worry about is rust. I just passed inspection with over 220k. Basic stuff may need attention. Spark plugs, hot hoses, coil packs, gear oil. My front calipers are rusting and flaking away but they still work. My family has 3 07s with over 200k. No major issues on any of them.

    My first new car. Purchased July 2007. I still have it. Almost 250k miles and I have yet to have any major maintenance. Only oil and tire changes. I never did the recommended maintenance. My car looks a million times better than the one in this video. Great video, but only critique is that you could have at least cleaned the interior before presenting it. My car has never been this dirty and I have dogs. This car is AMAZING and still feels new after 15 years. My next car was going to be the Fit (new) but Honda stopped selling them in the U.S. They seem to be pushing buyers to buy bigger cars that make a bigger carbon footprint. :( So many great things to love about this car, but one thing I love most is being able to sleep comfortably in it with myself or someone else. Plenty of room, unless you're over 6 ft tall. And always easy to find a parking space. The Fit just fits!

  • @hoover2501
    @hoover2501 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    So as a 2008 Honda Fit owner let me fill in a few of the gaps. What's being driven in this video is a Honda Fit sport which is a package that gives you the skirts the front spoiler and the rear wing along with keyless entry and a more powerful stereo system as well as an alarm system. Mine is a 5-speed which makes it a nice companion to my 1995 Mazda Miata because I must tell you they drive very similarly for how extremely different they are. I've always called this a many minivan and if you look at it in profile you'll understand why. And for those of you who remember the Civic wagon from the late '80s and the early 90s it is an absolute tribute to that model. The only thing you could not get in this fit was all wheel drive like that Civic had. Their dimensions are nearly identical and if you're a Honda fan I think you'll find that fact interesting. And did I mention how much fun the five-speed is to drive? Mine's suffering from a little bit of rust but you can't blame it as it has 380,000 miles and only one time did it need a replacement on the clutch because the springs on the clutch wore out not the clutch itself. Ignition coil packs are another common problem as is a little bit of leaking into the back trunk which can be fixed with flex seal sprayed all around anywhere you think water could possibly leak in. Still have it as my winter car and keep it set up with snow tires. Hands down the best looking of all three generations in my opinion and the last true homage to the old Honda vehicles; simple, reliable, practical, great gas mileage, and value. It's true if I could keep buying this exact car over and over again I wouldn't even look at another car ever again

      I love the 08 fit. I’ve had this car for almost 2 years now. I’ve bought it front a used car dealership and although I’ve had to get quite of stuff replaced on it , it’s still the best car I’ve ever driven “ I’m 22 and this is my 2nd car I’ve owned lol. My fit has over 208k miles on it and still going relatively strong. I’ve got dc sport headers , st suspension lowering springs , NS series wheels full cat back exhaust and a cold are intake. It sounds And feel great to drive. Love this car so much even tho it’s got a good amount of undercarriage rust and creaking noises. The car is a 5 speed mt and I’ve replaced ht clutch once last year but recently the transmission has been sounding weird and I’m pretty sure it’s the input shaft bearing so I’m going to have to replace the trans since it’ll be easier than rebuilding the transmission. By far this car is slept on in the Honda community in the US. Where I stay at I don’t see many fits modified or just the gd3 generation in general so I love how unique the car is

      I got you beat. I’m at 396k. Only issue is there is an occasional misfire when warm outside. No codes, replaced plugs, wires, fuel injectors/filter, and it’s still there. Been going on since about 340k. I just live with it. Real homage to the tride n true honda’s of old, but I must say, I’ve been seriously eye balling the 3rd gen sport 6spd’s. I love my 07 Fit and will probably never sell it, but I had to buy a Mercedes S-Class for highway use because the Fit is so noisy and uncomfortable for long road trips. Fine if you're a kid and don't care about comfort, not fine for an aging adult. The S-Class is blissfully quiet and ultra smooth (air suspension). Too bad it sucks premium fuel with its V8 and AWD. There's no perfect car. Fit for 90% of my summer driving (city), MB for my winter driving and road trips.

    No joke, these are probably some of the best cars Honda ever made. Inexpensive, reliable, efficient, tons of room, and still decent to drive. It's not the fastest or most luxurious car but it's not supposed to be. It's a shame Honda discontinued these because they could make more profit on the HR-V. There is still a market for cars like this. It wasn't the fastest seller but it was a reliable seller.
    I've got experience with two of these. My sister's boyfriend has one. I had to diagnose and change a dead battery for him at the start of the pandemic. Very roomy engine bay for the size. My buddy at work has one. He and his wife had two cars but they downsized to just the Fit when they moved to my state. They live in the city and alternate work at home days so it's all they need. It's currently getting a new front end because some idiot in a tow truck ignored the don't back up signs at a toll booth and backed into it.

    • @scott8919
      @scott8919 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The last time I got my HR-V serviced at the Honda dealer, even the people behind the desk were saying Honda is shooting themselves in the foot. They used to sell a bunch of Fits, then they stopped producing them, so they were telling customers who wanted a Fit about the HR-V and how it shares the same platform, hoping they could still get a sale based on that... now they can't even do that because the 2023 model is much larger. They no longer have a cheap subcompact and they're losing a good portion of customers who don't want to buy used.

    I am the original owner of a 2007 Fit LX 5 speed. It currently has 151,000 km and drives and looks like the day I picked it up! This car is a blast to drive and the mileage is awesome. It's been undercoated yearly with Krown Rust Control, therefore there is absolutely no rust!! Only three problems in over 15 years. The car leaked like a sieve around the back hatch and the spare tire wheel well filled with water. The drivers lock messed up and had to have it re-keyed and the clutch crapped out at 80,000 km. I plan to keep it until it goes to the junkyard!!! Just an amazing little car!!

    • @OMGWTFLOLSMH
      @OMGWTFLOLSMH ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine leaked too and my passenger lock no longer works. They put some kind of cheap crap locks in these cars and defective body seam sealer. Mine's an automatic, so no clutch issues for me. My '07 only has 40k kms. I bought it off a now deceased relative who barely used it, and I only use it once a week in the spring/summer/fall (it gets parked for the winter), so I keep the mileage low.
      I'm still running the original 16 yr old tires. They're no longer very soft (no cracking or dry rot though) and not great in the rain, so I only drive when it's dry. I was going to change the tires this year, but they still have lots of tread on them and I only put on about 2000 kms/year, so I changed my mind when they hit me at $600 for 4 lousy 14" tires. Maybe next year, or maybe I'll catch a sale.

    • @ronripley9197
      @ronripley9197 ปีที่แล้ว

      @OMGWTFLOLSMH Wow! It should last you forever with that kind of mileage and especially not being driven in the winter. I'm in Halifax NS where they use lots of road salt. Most of the first gen Fits here are getting pretty rotten especially where the back plastic bumper bolts onto the body. Mine is great as it's been sprayed yearly. Are you in Canada as you quoted kms on your car?

    my first car was a 99 civic sedan. I loved it very much, and it influenced a few key things for my next car purchase.
    1. Had to be a Honda
    2. As the friend with a sedan, 4 doors was a must. Extra headroom would also be nice
    3. Had to be a sub compact
    4. Be a manual (optional)
    While I have the poverty spec 2008 Fit, it is a cromulent replacement for that civic. It ticks all of those boxes. Despite losing the sunroof, a dome light, a ton of potential mods, & about 20 HP, I don't really care. The car is fun with a manual & I get 38.5 MPG in mixed use. Bear in mind, I do engage in a little bit of hypermiling. The car arguably punches above its weight class in terms of cargo. I was heavily considering a pickup truck or mini van just for the space/versatility, but the fit fills that need pretty well.

    Awesome review... We have a Civic FN2 5door here in Europe (2007) and it's much more inline with the fit design than the Civic sedans you got over there in the US... It's a very spacious car (also comes with the upfolding bench seats) with great engines. We have the 2.2 diesel 140hp, it's really an economical and peppy engine...I loved Honda's design language back in the '00s

Didn't have one issue with it, though it started forming some rust at the bottom of the passenger doors. Back here again...
    On my 3rd Fit drom rhe first gen.
    Found a cherry 07 with 75k in a manual transmission. My first two 08 Fit manuals gave me a combined 480k.
    They would still run well but suffered rust issues. I do blame myself to some degree, but the sport model had more places to rust especially along the rocker panel. This is due to holes that needed to be drilled out to fit the side skirts. The 07 base i got is clean and has no holes drilled since it doesn't have the skirt attachment.
    I'm going to try to do better with this one if it's probably the last first generation I'll ever find worth buying

    I came here hoping to understand why people don't want me to get rid of my 2007 honda fit, but I've learned that owning the base model is the biggest L I've taken. No fog lights, no cruise control, no paddle shifters, no aux input but the hole for it is there. I've certainly never gotten 40 mpg even on the interstate. The mpg will drop drastically very easily, be it extra passengers, living in the mountains, altitude, or a backseat full of cargo. I've seen it drop as low at 26 mpg over the silliest things. The biggest thing that bothers me in the interior, going from a 1990 honda prelude, is the distance between the gas pedal and steering wheel is pretty terrible. I'm 5'2 and I've either got knees to the steering column or I'm reaching a bit for the steering wheel. I'm looking into buying an aftermarket center console considering there's really no comfortable arm rest. The ignition coil packs fail more often than I'd like to admit, and you will need a valve adjustment every handful of years. But it has come in handy with the unbeatable cargo space. I can comfortably sleep in the back for impromptu camping, and I can confirm I've transported engines and transmissions in this car no problem. It's earned it's place but I can't say I totally love this car. I really have a bipolar relationship with it but I suppose you can't have it all.

      @@lucas____6403 Just bought one last weekend! 1st gen 2008 at 110k miles, $5,700. Bone dry engine, 2nd and longest owner had it dealer serviced, manual transmission.
      It will need a throw-out bearing, and likely clutch at some point. Light noise from the bearing. Clutch feels fine for now. (Unless someone did it themselves, there's no record of a clutch replacement)
      It also needs a valve adjustment. Going to do that this weekend myself. (Have done it before on my 98 Accord. Currently sounds like a big ole diesel truck when I'm idling x'D
      I already replaced the radio with a mid-grade one, the Atoto S8 standard. Plus their backup camera. Looks and runs smooth!
      Oh! It also needs 2 TMPS sensors, which I can replace myself as well.
      If the clutch makes it to my birthday week, I'll replace it myself. (I'll have that week off of work, so I can take my time doing it)
      If not, I feel too lazy, and will have a shop replace it for me.

      Ended up finding a 1st gen, and got a stick-on RF remote. Actually works pretty well. And I like the button layout a lot more than what the 2nd gen Fit would have. (It's more like the 3rd gen Fit layout, with an outer ring for volume control. 5 face buttons)
