    One of my favorite thing about your videos is the "look" you give the camera after you say one of your points. "At number 2, never ever under any circumstances self produce your own demo" *look*. It's like the look to camera Jim gives in the Office. 9:12

      Also, you should open up a Discord. Enough people watch your videos. It would be cool to be able to talk with other fans.

    I feel like a lot of these "don'ts" are put forward by people who stand to benefit from it rather than people giving well meaning advice. I also appreciate the accent advice. I am Scottish and I think I sound unmistakably Scottish, albeit more subtle than some, but my accent seems to confuse people. I've been asked if I am English, Irish, South African, Australian among others.

    Thanks for the assessment and the James Earl Jones comment -- made me titter. P. S. I'm British-American, and to my native English now partly American ear, you sound INTENSELY Scottish! Heh heh heh.

    I'm interested to know how you'd deal with finding a "high end client" job that would normally pay £1000's has been ordered via Fiverr or Upwork, etc. hence making a massive saving?
    I know of one Pro VO this has happened too; the end client was a major electronics company with a considerable advertising budget, but the media production studio that was working for them booked the VO via their Fiverr gig & pocketed the $$$ difference.
    Cases such as this is why I'm sure the "big names" in VO vehemently abhor people being on those sites, & their impact on the marketplace.
    PS Sub's are rising nicely & I second the Discord suggestion, untapped market as the current VO discords seem mainly for a much younger crowd.

    • @CrownStagVoiceover
      @CrownStagVoiceover  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll have a look at discord - not sure if need to / have the bandwidth to manage it.
      In terms of your example I have had a similar thing happen to me and to be fair more than once. I’ve done work for brew dog, Etsy, tik tok and Facebook and I was paid…., well enough. Would I have made more in time gone by, probably. But it’s a very person experience and frustration. The pro VO opinion of it should pay more is not incorrect but it’s a buyers market and the reality is… someone is going to do it so if there is money on the table, do you really walk away from it because they have engaged you via a method and platform you have agreed to by having a gig?

      Are you happy casting it out to see what you get, or do you prefer to gear yourself up to only hunt out selected prize specimens.

    Something I've been wondering about whenever this comes up: can you help me understand why a pro demo is advantageous? I'm a newbie and I understand that with the prevalence of home studio recording, the goal should be to produce professional quality audio at home. If someone is already producing pro quality audio, what will they gain by having their demo professionally produced?

    • @CrownStagVoiceover
      @CrownStagVoiceover  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ultimately a “pro demo” is to provide a quality mark of your ability and that used to be something you needed to buy. If and only if you have the technical knowledge then you can create your own demo. My demo is a mix of work I have done and create.

    • @warrengeiler5524
      @warrengeiler5524 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrownStagVoiceover The other thing I thought regarding this is that the "pro demo" doesn't necessarily show what the voice actor can readily produce on a regular basis -- that is, without constantly returning back to the pro recording studio and working with the audio engineer. The "pro demo" seems to be more "this is the absolute best I could ever be" rather than "this is what you could expect to receive from me as a product in the usual case."

      It’s supposed to be a showcase of your talent but you are right, if you need to return to the studio for every record then it’s diminishes the returns
