      Autogefuhl is king of timestamps. There's no other youtube chanel that uses so many of them in a single video.I would prefer less, it's hard to navigate with so many because of how short many of them are. One for intro, one of interior, one for exterior and one for driving experience.

      @@Kaisersozze that's a valid point, it's a fine line for sure. i guess it's safer to lean towards too many timestamps rather than too little? I'm sure Thomas has some thoughts on this haha

    I still love the big rotary temperature controls on my E82 135i. So clicky and satisfying to use.

    Nice review! I wish you could film the cars from the outside a bit more next time please. Meaning, without too much zoom, just from various different sides and more in the city (for example when you are parking it between the two cars, which will show how it looks compared with its size to other cars, or how easy is it turning in tight corners/streets), just to simulate a bit how it looks in the real world instead of watching primarily you in the interior.

    I've just ordered an iX1 M Sport from Pelras Toulouse having already seen the car at Goodwood FoS. It was the most difficult car ever to spec e.g to have the induction phone charging I had to buy the Premium pack at €2100 and I must then pay another €800 for active cruise or €350 for heated seats after I have taken delivery. I really think BMW should re-think this strategy..it's too greedy. Nevertheless, I can't wait to get my new car next March.

    • @duncangrant4580

      Just ordered an X1 Sport here in the UK and I feel your frustration! I wanted the anti-dazzle internal and extenral mirrors, but to get that I would have to buy a £1,600 package with mostly features that I do not need or want. I also wanted the heated steeering wheel and can only get that through a package too (plus a later subscription fee too!) and yet, for example, I could specify heated seats as a single option. Crazy! Still, great car and can't wait to get behind the wheel!

    I'm ordering one an X1 based on this review. Out the door just over $50k with the M sport mode and performance tires. I like that the X1 does not feel top heavy like most SUVs, so the driving dynamics are much more like a car. Modern with good gas mileage, with decent acceleration (under 6 sec 0 to 60), and mildly luxurious interior. And the length makes it very easy to park in the city.

    The front looks quite strange again - it's like a cheerful kid in class that is trying too hard not to show it is actually angry. The taillights are too low imo as well.
    The air vents look unharmonic - the one in the center and the ones in front of the passenger aren't in the same height but are too closely placed and just look out of place. Otherwise Thomas - great review, as always on point and very informative.

I have a 2022 M4 coupe, but this would be such a great daily driver, for getting groceries, city, small road trips. These 19" rims are the way to go, too. Best balance between sidewall and rim size. I don't think I would go with the 20" ones just because the purpose of this car is able to handle some rougher roads, I don't want to worry about low profile tires on my crossover.

The only thing I miss is what you did with tje genesis g80, whereby you clearly showed the seating difference as a result of the battery eating up space at the bottom, do you feel it's also an issue with the iX1 as the X1 is also not developed as a dedicated EV car.

    What gearbox did the 23i had? I see in the BMW configurator there are 2 options for the transmission: DCT (probably 7speed) or "automatic" (I guess the 8speed ZF gearbox). 300euros more for de 8speed auto. Please give more details on differences between the 2 gearboxes (driving feeling, consumption and reaction to kickdown), in your future reviews for this car.

I too prefer to feel connected to the road and found the steering vague in the xline 2023 x1 and was hoping it would improve with the m sport model you test drove. How does the steering feeling compare with the current x3 model? is it worth upgrading to x3 on the driving dynamics alone?

    Being a former new BMW owner I love the new X1...I just struggle to recognize it as a BMW and feel the passion when it lacks digitalization of the classic BMW gauges cluster (classic clocks)... To be fair, my wife's had a couple occurrences of an Android Auto connection issue with her G20 330i. It just disconnected on its own, and we were unable to get it reconnected. It suddenly started working again after a couple of days. So that issue is not necessarily new.

    A great video on a new, important vehicle from BMW.
    I much preferred the ix1 but felt the range would be hindrance on longer drives... Once again you face the need for 2 vehicles to be flexible.. My petrol A4 vehicle with 4 persons and luggage at 140km/h doing about 700km range quite easily..
    The new colours are not for me.. I prefer the ix1 in that white with e vehicle blue accents..
    Problematic software would annoy me and that main driving screen looks confusing..
    Still a very nice vehicle but these test vehicles have most options that we would all like but what would be the total price?

    • @jonathantaylor1998
      @jonathantaylor1998 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I have no doubt that your petrol A4 would be able to do 700km on a tank of fuel - but do you ever actually DO 700km in one go, without stopping?
      At least here in the UK, 700km would be like driving from London to Edinburgh non-stop which is around an 8 hour drive...!
      Unless you have a bladder the size of a camel, I suspect you would stop at least once, if not possibly twice on an 8 hour journey - that's when you plug your EV in to a rapid charge point whilst you're inside taking a well-earned coffee and bathroom break.
      Basically, as long as an EV can cover about 200-250 miles between charges - the equivalent of around 3-4 hours' driving - plus then be able to recharge back up to 85-90% in around 30 minutes - during your comfort break - then that's all you'd ever really need it to do.
      It's just a change of mindset - you never leave an EV sat doing nothing in a car park like you do with a piston car...

    The touchscreen climate controls on the new X1 are a deal-breaker. I would never buy a car that didn’t enable me to easily control the aircon while driving. It’s too distracting and dangerous to use a screen. Physical knobs and buttons are so much better and safer.
    PS: Thanks for the great review Thomas!

    • @fvandewinckel
      @fvandewinckel ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Strange that this is a dealbreaker for you. I put the airco in the automatic setting on 21c and have no need to change that while driving.

    • @jkliao6486
      @jkliao6486 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@fvandewinckel So you are saying denying options is a good thing. You like it doesn't mean everyone else should like it. I also think it's a deal breaker as well.

    • @far_tech5555
      @far_tech5555 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Although I agree the physical buttons or knobs are easier and less distracting, I prefer the button-less approach of the new models because of the nodern design language. I always use auto climate so I don't need to manual control the climate that often. Also, I hope the voice command does the job for these kinds of stuff.
      My current car has all the climate controls as physical buttons, but if I want to change some settings, I still need to have a quick look . So having buttons doesn't necessarily remove the necessity of taking your eyes from the road.
      But it is totally subjective if this is a deal breaker for you and I won't argue that

    Fantastic review, but you didn't touch on one thing that may allay the worries people have about there being no I-drive wheel, which is the voice control option. I took an X1 for a test drive the other day and tested this function. I did two tests, speaking in my normal voice (with has a slight Yorkshire accent) at normal volume and intonation.
    First test: "Play radio 2" and sure enough, 'Radio 2' was selected for me.
    Second test: "Raise the temperature" - response from Idrive was "what would you like me to set the driver side temperature to?" "22" I responded and in less than a second, '22' appeared on the screen.
    I presently drive an Active Tourer (2019) and the voice control in that is disappointing. I would say BMW have definitely improved voice recognition ins version 8 Idrive software, as the X1 I test drove responded to both my requests without having been 'trained' to recognise my voice, so it would seem to work as well as, say, Alexa.

    Love the video, I just placed my order in Norway for my IX1 M Sport in frozen grey metallic all options, but with the 17inch winter wheels and 18inch summer, just for added comfort and the fact big wheels are not great for snow in Norway in the winter.
    I looked at the Tesla model Y but on close inspection at the bottom of the doors inside there was missed paint and the primer was showing through, also I am not a fan of an iPad looking display just slapped on the dash board.
    I have an I3 at the moment a 2014 model with only 90km in winter when fully charged so this will be a huge upgrade for me. Would love if you got a video of the IX1 factory and went through the production process, I hear it's one of the most advanced in the world.
    Can you get information about the Idrive 9 ? I hear X1 will get it later in the year my car is due September so I hope I get the new upgrade.

    Yesterday I test drove the X1 23i, and it made a bad impression how harsh the suspension was on bumpy roads (even compared to my 3-series which is generally stiff and sporty). IX1 is on preorder. What I didn't like about this car was the lack of wheel options in the order. The Msport starts with 18inch in my country. I don't like the style of 19 inch and 20inch is not comfy and also expensive to upgrade.
    The second complain is the range of the car. I think it could have been a bit better. 438 WLTP could have been 50km more with slightly bigger battery.
