Tack så mycket for the review!!! I used to live in Stockholm for 1 year :( my sister is a psychiatrist in Stockholm. Now I am in Gold Coast, waiting for delivery ix1 for my wife, now she is driving a Lexus NX300 hybrid, a good car, but to buy a new Lexus NX300, you need to wait for 2 years. Next month we are moving to a new house with solar panels, it is one of the reasons for buying an electric car and particularly a BMW because no choice for an SUV at this price. I got the price of my ix1 with M Package 56 500 euro with 19 inches wheels. I like Tesla, but I don't like the quality after Lexus. Congratulations on the first full review of the iX1 as far as I know. I also took delivery of an iX1 almost 2 months ago in France and I agree with most of your observations, eg the steering, I would go one step further and say it’s more Merc than BMW but the upside is it’s more relaxing as you said. I hope they can improve the feel with a software update, do you think that is possible ? It’s put together well but I'm not a fan of some of the finish, the rear net above the seats (made in China in big print) looks like an after-market item from Ali Express and the parcel shelf is the most flimsy since my old Hyundai i10. Your car is fully equipped so you will have been stung for some of the items that should be standard on an SUV like the roofrails at €310, €400 to activate the heated seats & €800+for Driving Assist. They’re built in at production, we paid €2300 extra to have the opportunity to pay yet more 😢& finally enjoy them. I can’t see this idea catching on BMW so don’t be so mean ! It’s a very good car 😊and it could easily be one of BMW's greatest.
I agree with all you write. Heated seats are standard in Sweden, otherwise they should not sell one single car here 😂 The steering might be possible to change with software but I don’t think they will do it because I think this is the way BMW want it to be. If not it would be to sporty for a lot of customers.
roof rails are standard on UK models; just checked the configuration app to make sure. in comparison, the polestar 2 has roof bar mounts above the door frame, so no air resistance penalty when nothing is in use.
Very detailed update, thanks for sharing! I live in Australia and enjoy watching the videos regarding your car! My Cape York Green X1 (non electric) XDrive20i M Sport with 20 inch wheels, enhancement pack and black Vernasca leather arrives in three weeks! I’m very excited!
We are looking at purchasing a ix1 M Sport as our first EV. New Zealand winter conditions are generally not as severe as in Sweden but your review is very helpful.
As I understand it will only be on new cars because it requires new hardware. Also heard that they would start in UK and later on in other countries.Don’t think they will decrease prices, they sell all that they can produce at this moment with quite long delivery times.
I have the car for 4 days as a test. Damn I miss the central control button so hard. And buttons for media and climate. Drives great. Love the overall quality feeling. Looks great too. I don’t understand why the central box space under the arm rest is now open. I doubt you can really drive 400 kms. But I would trade my 318d Touring immediately. Would still hesitate for an i4 though. Thank you for the review.
Wanted to give an update about the consumption Without Aircon heating , which has great impact on the battery, the consumption is really good. In normal city speed, it is between 14 to 17 kW/100 km. So I would expect to get more than WLTP range in the summer. These figures are not including aggresive accelerations. With heating turned on, I would see huge increase in the consumption, some where between 20 to 26 kW/100 km.
How do you feel about Aircon heating of the car's effect on the consumption? I see it has a considerable impact on the battery. It can easily adds 20% more consumption, expecially in the first 10 minutes of the trip.
Winter in Sweden so we have natural air conditioning now 😊 The heating takes some power of course but have not tested how much because it’s not so easy use the car without it.

Thanks for good review. I did a test drive yesterday with a demo car from the local dealer Fully Charged Plus MSport. First impression is good. But I could not find a button to adjust distance to the car in front when using adaptiv cruise. Also no function to reset trip teller. Is it hidden in the menus?
You set distance in a menu and as standard is an adaptive distance control which works really well so I never adjust distance manually. Trip you reset in journey menu.

Once again thank you for such an informative video. These 20-inch rims are available only with summer tires here in Poland. What winter tires (brand and model) do you use?
Hi! Video - superb! I have a question regarding the front grill sensor, maybe you know the answer. Is the sensor in the front grill heated? If you drive in cold and snow, does it freeze and start giving errors? Thanks in advance for the answer!
I ordered the X1 23i M Sport, should have been delivered in October 22, unfortunately it I’ve had to wait until this week (17th February for it to be delivered to the dealership, I’ve had the M pro and comfort packs fitted. I will pick it up on the 2nd March 2023, changing from the new 2 series Active Tourer 23i M Sport had it 10 months from new, so I’m now experienced with the new i8 system. Totally agree with you the Karma Kardon system is excellent.
I find car charging very good. I think you judged it too harshly. The battery only has 64 kWh, so it can't charge noticeably faster. The battery heating works very well, in sub-zero temperatures it reaches over 130 kW, which is important for a very long time over 120 kW. Of course, the battery could be bigger, but the car would also have to be bigger. It's just a compact SUV. Personally, I think that when it comes to the battery and its charging, it is very good here. Plus you have 22kW AC which is a great deal. He uses it often.
22 kW AC is an option in Sweden and quite expensive, 1000 Euro. Compared to many other new cars like Kia, Hyundai and Audi the charging speed is not that impressive. The iX1 is a brand new model for 2023 and then I think we could expect better. The same also for range. Polestar 2 which is about the same size has 635 km range now.
@@swede-365 Comparing to the 800 Volt system is pointless. And the comparison to the 400 volt system in Kia e Niro also makes no sense 😂. The Polestar 2 is a sedan and has a larger battery. I don't quite understand the comparison.
As I said in the video it’s my personal opinions and I still think the range and charging speed is not that impressive for a quite expensive and brand new model.
@@swede-365 another great video thanks. Not to rub it in but the 22kw charging is standard in a lot of market including Australia. Also a 5 year warranty. Very strange how BMW segments different markets. I don’t think we get the interior camera though.
Thank you for the very nicely made review. I'm sure the range will be much better in the summer. When my lease ends in 1 1/2 years, I will be looking very very closely at the iX1.
I like this car and was hoping they would bring it to Canada but it will not be available in North America. I will be switching brands after 7 BMW’s as they do not have a small suv in ev yet. I have enjoyed all the cars I have had from them.
Hi, your winter mats in rubber, are they original from BMW or what? On every previously car I had, I used Swedish brand "rensi" and and carpet/floor in the car were as new. I ordered my iX1 in January, delivery April or May 🇩🇰.
Great detailed video with some nice honest views on your experience of the car. I’d like to know more about the driver assistance professional and in particular your experience of using the active cruise control. Can’t seem to find much online so a demo would be wonderful- particularly how it works when traffic stops etc.
@@swede-365 Does the car stop automatically when ACC is active and the car in front stops. It’s just that the small print on the Driver Assist Professional suggests it only works at speeds above 19kmh. Or is control returned to the driver when speeds drop and is the driver given some signal?
@swede-365 thanks so much for these videos. It would be great to see how the driver assist is activated and deactivated. Is it on the steering wheel like Mercedes? Does it have a steering wheel touch sensor or must you turn the wheel to stop it alarming? Many thanks again
It’s activated by a real button on the steering wheel, not the horrible touch buttons like on newer Mercedes. The steering wheel leather surface has touch sensors for keeping it activated.
@@swede-365 Thanks - struggling to find it on the UK website, but will ask at the dealership. On a separate note, can I ask if you need to put much effort on into maintaining the frozen paint? Struggling to decide between mineral white or the frozen grey - just worried that frozen paint will be a nightmare to maintain.
It’s not a nightmare, only maybe a problem if you get some bigger Dana that needs to be repaired. Otherwise quite easy to maintain as it hides dirt and scratches better than a glossy one.
@@swede-365 thanks so much - your videos have been invaluable to us as we’ve been planning our order. We’re going to go and change the colour on the order today!
Just taken delivery of my ix1 and having problems with the remote services via the My BMW app (Apple). I cannot lock / unlock or take any pictures remotely - eventually get a failed message. Everything else via the app works. I have checked the Data Privacy settings - all ok. Any ideas ?
Can anyone tell me if the ix1 driver assistant professional allows the car to self drive and steer in Norway? I see this function works below 60kph in other countries in slow traffic?
Hi, thanks for this very informative & good 'user report'! I'm still unsure about the maintenance of the frozen paint but what you said about just performing regular wash-routine made me think more positive about it :) Just a related questions: do you ever go to a automatic car-wash with this car? Do you notice light swirl-marks of less than on a regular paint?
Only hand wash for me because almost all automatic car-wash use wax or polish in some way. The matte color hides swirl-marks and small scratches better than glossy in my opinion.
Yes the cars from BMW are expensive, 22kW AC charging costs extra and the battery has 64.7kWh only. But that is no a surprise and well known. The car is just not a Polestar 2/Genessis GV60. To whom these things are important, should keep their hands off the iX1. I find the 22kW AC charger a super investment, since I practically always charge at home or at the workplace, DC charging rarely occurs and then only for 15-25 minutes. Therefore, yes, faster DC charging and a larger battery would be nice but is not crucial for many of us.
It’s all a matter of personal opinions and needs. I often use DC charging and also range is affected by the cold weather in Sweden. I of course knew this before I bought it and accepted this but I think it’s worth mentioning both good and less good things with the car. I try to be so objective as possible and then everyone must make their own conclusions depending of what’s important for them.
@@swede-365 I think the review is well over all. A good review should show strengths and weaknesses, I only find the subjective evaluation of the facts not purposeful when you do not mention the context in the video "I often use DC charging and also range is affected by the cold weather in Sweden.". I am driving the ix1 in Switzerland (last week in the Engadine at -9 degrees) and have therefore chosen winter wheels with the dimension 205/65 with 17 inch and have also waived the glass roof because of the extra weight... I get an average consumption of 17.7kWh. You can't have everything. Fat wheels, heavy accessories and extended winter range.
compared to the polestar 2 the twin motor ix1 is nominally as efficient as the single motor polestars, and much better than the dual motor models. But polestar have just refreshed their batteries and so can compensate for the inefficient twin motor-and/or give better range. Maybe BMW will follow with a single motor model and something with longer range. But first I'd like them to ship the one I ordered in October.
A really informative video about the iX1! I’ve enjoyed watching this series as it’s factual and unbiased. A quick question about the Boost paddle function - what about iX1’s without the paddle? How do they get their full 313bhp?
Thanks for another great video both in terms of content and structure, but also in terms of how it has been embellished with various digital enhancements and pointers during the presentation. Just one thing. I was surprised when at the end of the "Handling and Performance" section you only gave it a 4 out of 5, when you throughout that particular section were in constant praise of it. I was expecting a 5 out of 5. I suppose what makes it difficult when making these reviews is whether to compare the car "relatively" with the likes of e.g. AUDI Q4, Mercedes GLE etc. or "absolutely" with EVs like the iX, Jaguar iPace etc. In this case, as regards the "Handling and Perfrmance" section I found it a mixture of the two. It is afterall a cheapish (in BMW terms) entry-level family car, and I personally find it up at "the top of the pile". However, all in all it was a really good and informative video. Thanks for that.
It’s always difficult as I relate to other cars I owned. This is Porsche 718 spyder, Audi RS E-Tron GT, BMW Z4 M40i and many others. But for a 5 it should have had a little more punch when it comes to acceleration.
I had a test drive of this yesterday. Beautiful car for the package but for AU$101,000 it's a hard sell. A bit of an unfair comparison I know, but I'm coming from a deisel XC90 so used to much more space and little touches. But I have to say that space was really the only major downside. This car doesn't feel like an entry level vehicle with the materials and design. But damn electric cars are just too much brand new at the moment. Maybe I'll wait a year and buy it used.
Hello, thank you for your excellent videos! 😍 You mentioned that you have all of the available options. I'm wondering if you know the option ordering code or BMW part number for this optional aluminum or steel dead pedal plate in this 2023 BMW X1 picture? Can’t seem to find much online so a demo would be wonderful- particularly how it works when traffic stops etc.
It works really good!
@@swede-365 Does the car stop automatically when ACC is active and the car in front stops. It’s just that the small print on the Driver Assist Professional suggests it only works at speeds above 19kmh. Or is control returned to the driver when speeds drop and is the driver given some signal?
With assisted driving plus I think it will work up to 60 km/h but I haven’t tested it yet. Will update after test.
Hello, how did you fix the tow bar issue? I can not find video you mentioned.

If i was Sweden i would only drive volvo. As a Greek my xc40 is my third volvo 😊
I drive a Volvo EX30 now 😊
Per, where did you get the boot liner from? Is it an official BMW product?
It’s BMW original accessory
Glad they could help and good luck with your car!
Can you tell me in comparison with tesla model Y? What is better?
Tesla better range BMW better car and quality
@@swede-365 thank you for the quick response! Did you have tesla model Y? If not, did you drive one?
I have tried both Tesla Y and 3
@@swede-365 thank you very much
When you have that 250km-300km range, were you referring to from 80% to zero? Thanks from Toronto!
No, with 100% in the battery but in winter conditions.
@@swede-365 thanks. It does look great.
Can you tell me what other EVs you compare this car to?
I have owned Audi RS E-Tron GT, 2 x BMW i3, Mercedes EQC and driven a lot of others.

Very helpful - Thank you

Just taken delivery of my ix1 and having problems with the remote services via the My BMW app (Apple). I cannot lock / unlock or take any pictures remotely - eventually get a failed message. Everything else via the app works. I have checked the Data Privacy settings - all ok.
Any ideas ?
Sorry to hear that. The server can be unresponsive sometimes so maybe check again another day.
Can anyone tell me if the ix1 driver assistant professional allows the car to self drive and steer in Norway? I see this function works below 60kph in other countries in slow traffic?
It works in all speeds I have tested in Sweden…as long as you keep your hands on the steering wheel 😊
@@swede-365 thank you!
Why did you not buy a Volvo XC40 recharge electric vehicle?
Don’t like them
thanks for your reply. Any particular reason why?
I am looking to buy a X1 but thinking to go for the hybrid one x1 25e
Great
A really informative video about the iX1! I’ve enjoyed watching this series as it’s factual and unbiased. A quick question about the Boost paddle function - what about iX1’s without the paddle? How do they get their full 313bhp?
Thank you 🙏 They get it with kick down
In Sport mode or would any Drive mode do? Asking as I'm waiting for my own iX1 to arrive in a couple of weeks, and I didn't get the M-Sport version.
@@ElliotCassar I think it works in all modes but can't confirm it as I have the M-version
@@swede-365 thank you for that. I'll try to let you know once I receive mine :)
@@ElliotCassar does boost mode works without shift pedals in your xline version? Does it works in all modes?
Really beautiful car
We agree!
Hey mate....what's with all the random red flashing lights in the dashboard?
It’s ir lights for the driver attention camera
How about road noises level?
Its good for the size and price of the car.
Is the lumbar & massage worth it ?
The lumbar if it’s working as it should, the massage not as I think…
@@swede-365 thanks for the info
I agree with the comments.. of exterior.. BMWs best looking SUV. IX3 does not make sense and the IX makes me puke.. and IX2 is just weird..
Well balanced review
Thank you, I try to do it as objectively as possible. 🙏
You know what is waiting for you 😉
Loved all your iX1 videos. Do you still have the car? Can we have an update video. Keep up the good work
