    There is only one reason for calling this the 3080 and not 3080Super
    When RTX4000 series is launched, they will use the new price point of the new 12GB 3080 as a reference for the price performance of the new RTX4080
    If the 3080 was still priced at $700, that would be a laughable chart when they show the price they want you to pay for the 4080

    • @RafitoOoO
      @RafitoOoO 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should have been 16gb from the beginning. There are games already using over 10gb of VRAM and the new console generation just got started. In a couple year 12gb will not be enough too. The behavior of nvidia is just pathetic tbh.

    • @Battleneter
      @Battleneter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@RafitoOoO There is only ONE AMD sponsored title (slightly suspiciously) that has an "optional" hi res texture pack that uses over 10GB and that is Farcy6. PS5 and XBSX have around 8GB of "shared" ram from the total of 16GB that can be used as VRAM after the game data itself, OS and subsystems. So no 10GB is absolutely fine at 4K and below for probably the next 4+ years, that said I agree 12Gb would have been the obviously way to go from an emotional and marketing point of view.

    I was fortunate enough to obtain an Asus TUF RTX3080 (10GB) at launch for MSRP/RRP ....... However, I'm wondering "IF" this gpu was released as many people are still trying to get hold of their ordered RTX3080 and with Nvidia's line up being further segmented on the GA102 die, making obtaining either a RTX3080/Ti/3090 very difficult and this card is basically an ALL IN ONE GPU solution and a price reset (and massive hike) by Nvidia to get more cash out of consumers and AIB partners during the current shortages. Great review Nick Amazing job as always. Love to you all (you, Klaire & Bindi 🐈)!

      @thepirateswirled 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, i wouldn't even wonder if the next gen gpus are getting even more expensive, probably they will so, it did work now, why they should stop it. Anyway for the current situation the 3080 12gb has a better price/perfomance ratio in my country atm (germany), also if nvidia intends to make more money ouf of it. The 3080 12gb is about 5% slower than the 3080 ti, but has the same ram configuration, but costs more than 20% less than the 3080 ti, so its a better deal here in germany atm it seems.

  • @jbountalas
    @jbountalas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I bought one because I didn't want to pay the premium for the Ti version. So, in essence, it's a Super. That's fine. With the OC software included with the card and a good enough PS, you can OC it and likely get the same results as a non OC'ed Ti. I won't do that as I don't need the extra performance, it's fine as it is. So, long story short, I spent my money and I'm happy with what I got.

    I really don't see the problem with this card.
    I mean, if a 3080 is $1000, and a 3080ti is $1500 then it makes a lot more sense for people to buy the 12GB model for $1200 and get the extra 2GB of memory for large textures for 4k gaming, without having to spend $1500 for a 3080ti.
    Or maybe I'm just saying this because this is what I did.
    When there's $500 between cards then it makes sense to stick one in the middle, but maybe not so much between a 3060 and a 3060ti.
    Plus the fact that the prices of 3080s vary so much that you can pick up a 12GB model for less than the price of some 10GB models.

    • @fred_2021

      People tend to look at '12GB' and think the extra 2GB is all you get. They overlook the fact that 12GB versions have more cores and wider bus width than 10GB. The result isn't equal to 3080Ti, but it's close.

    As someone who is looking at giving Linux a go, I've tried an Ubuntu revision about 4-5 years back and found a lot of drivers not available or buggy which deterred me at the time from staying with it. The GPU issue aside, the price and availability of AMD cpu's has normalised (a while back) as well as well a s small increase in some cases. Many other components and peripherals have been refreshed or released which haven't succumbed to the GPU price hike which is great to see which means other than using an older generation gpu, many people can still afford to build an overall new rig in the past 6 months (in many regions). People are angry about the gpu situation fair enough, but building a VG budget, mid-range or high-end build is still achievable. I think people are angry and just need 1 thing to blame everything one not to pull the trigger on building their pc and blame Techtubers. You and your Tech community have done an amazing job and deserve to be treated better by a number of the ''hater'' commentary posted! Played some games (Fortnite, Apex Legends, Cyberpunk 2077) all at 1440P and got the same performance as the 12GB GPU. So no real performance difference from a game play POV. The real sad part is, upon return of the open box 12GB Gigabyte Gaming OC was, Microcenter marked it down for resale to $719.99 from my original Purchas price of $849. Moral of this sad situation with GPU prices, if you really need a GPU now and can't wait, consider buying open box and save yourself some money.

    Everything is subjective to price and the timing. Got mine for $749usd, was only $30 or so more than the standard 3080 10gb. It's not an amazing performance boost but something's better than nothing. As well as 2gb more vram which is proving useful since newer games are becoming more demanding. Reviewers always suggesting 'is this worth it? NO'. With no caveats of 'not at this price' or 'possibly'. Those running out of vram are gonna care. Not every gpu release is for everyone. The 3080 12gb wasn't meant for 3080 owners. For people who needed a new gpu it gives them more options. And if you don't like it, don't buy it. Had it been $1200 and the 3080 10gb only 850-900, sure I'd agree it wasn't really worth it. But prices and conditions fluctuate, not worth it at the moment or under these circumstances is different than 'not worth it'.

    I guess this 3080 12G was refreshed for price inflation adjustment only, they can't sell you a 3080 10G for 699 if the market price is around 1400. They certainly will increase the MSRP, but it's not like people can boycott it, these will sell out under 10 sec as usual.

  • @marcelforrel
    @marcelforrel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So , they just did the math basically & calculated that with the current materials they have at this time , for the Rtx 3080 & 3080 Ti cards , they weren’t going to be able to use all of their components in stock & to avoid wasting parts , they came up with this? Which would make a lot of sense. It’s a company. Still , 3080 12gb sounds pretty decent to me. But , doesn’t this indicate they’re just pushing through their last production cycle of this series of cards ? 3070 ti’s are being offered for sale at base value they were releases for by the third party manufacturer , the stores need money to buy what’s around the corner.

  • @henlolneh
    @henlolneh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nvidia realized they priced the 3080 way too low after realizing what scalpers and miners were willing to pay. They are pretty much going to phase out the 10gb 3080s and make the MSRP for a 3080 be what they truly want it at which is what the 12GB is currently being listed at. A travesty. The biggest winners out of the last two years are those who were able to get their hands on a RTX3080 10GB at launch MSRP prices. Absolute insane value in regards to $:performance ratio when you compare it to current day MSRPs for RTX cards.

    It’s just NVIDIA being NVIDIA. As the mfg process matures during the product lifecycle, they consistently get less cores that have to be disabled due to defects. To take advantage of that, they release a new product with more cores/better specs so they can charge more money and make more profit. It’s what they always do to maximize profits, however, it looks bad to the customer. Keep in mind that while no-one can buy a GPU, NVIDIA is technically producing GPUs in record numbers, demand is just way up above normal and out-striping supply by a massive amount.

    The thing is that you can get an AMD 6900XT for a lot less money than ANY 3080 and performance wise, the 6900XT pisses all over them from a great height.
    What you should remember that due to Nvidia Boost 3.0 any results you see are the card basically overclocked to its limit whereas when you seen and AMD 6900XT review you still have a hell of a lot of clocking headroom left after seeing the results. So a 6900XT far exceeds the 3080 clocked to the max in reviews and then STILL has a lot of performance left in the tank.
