    • @PotatotheTroll
      @PotatotheTroll 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Their control panel system hasn't received a visual update in a very long time. It's also pretty slow to load and save settings in my experience, and generally feels clunky when trying to change something as simple as Vsync or power settings. Per-game performance tuning is pretty slow going, because again it is pretty slow to get the game's profile loaded up. At least adding OpenGL applications as games (think like Minecraft Java edition) actually works properly with Nvidia cards. Of course, my most recent NVIDIA GPU is a 960M so maybe something has changed to improve this.
      On an AMD system, you flip a switch and you don't have to click an "apply" button so you can wait while it applies your settings. It just works (with the exception of Minecraft Java Edition at the least. Radeon Chill at the very least definitely doesn''t work, and I haven't really tested the other settings). I don't know enough about the science to tell you whether this is more or less difficult to program and make stable. All I know is that it's easier on the eyes and feels more responsive.

      @@PotatotheTroll It's exactly the same on a RTX 2070 so no changes there. I haven't had it crash though which I do hear occasionally happening on AMD (though I'm really not sure if that's just user error). Fun thing is this control panel from Nvidia sometimes also shows me old coverage sample modes for MSAA in older titles which aren't supported by my GPU and therefore render a black screen when opening the game 😆

    • @MaddJakd
      @MaddJakd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MLWJ1993 AMD's adrenaline suite is godly. Modern and things just work for the most part outside of odd cards having driver/hardware level issues. With my RX480 and Radeon VII (swaps) even I personally havent run into any issues. Personally I wouldn't touch Chill becuase I pushing both cards so not sure if that issue is card specific. It is definitely a notorious thing that most "normal level" users arent keeping other drivers, software, and chipsets up-to-date which do sink their tentacles into gpu stability and the like.
      Did have some 'stand in' Nvidia GPU when I had to rush this build into service 3 years ago. Some $40 gpu from best buy. That outdated, laggy, XP era control panel was just that. The same as our ancient Gateway family PC. Shameful, even with all their resources they can't be botherd to bring that into modern times, even on the pro side (just what?) while a company on the brink at the time made a point of fixing the Radeon Control Center among other things.

    A bridge is actually pretty handy in several 3D rendering scenarios. While you don't get a performance gain, you pool the memory of both cards (with NvLink, not the old SLI). That means you can render larger scenes. This is specifically significant for rendering volumes (clouds, smoke, fire etc.) that are often massive cache files which has to fit all in GPU memory. Hitting 24 gigs of VRAM on a production scene isn't too hard. Same goes for OpenCL accelerated simulations, which are also are getting very popular within 3D packages.

    Just as a quick FYI here GN, (game dev here) actually implementing explicit multi gpu support in DX12 is actually shockingly simple. Getting good scaling out of it does require some engine forethought, but if this was implemented natively into Unreal or Unity (which it could be) then support could grow quickly.
    Also due to the completely different (and much better) way that frames are rendered compared to SLI, you will generally not get micro stuttering OR a increase in latency.

I’ve had SLI systems since the 3-way GTX 480 and it’s sad to see SLI support land where it has today. There are some older games I still play with SLI support (Destiny 2, WoW, GTAV) that is hoping to get at close to a locked 4K 120hz. That being said, this will probably be my last SLI system.
    As always, great content and just because of this video on SLI I will join your Patreon. Thanks for all that you do in the industry.

      @Clayton Jones, I’m also interested in 2* 3090’s but from what I’m reading here I don’t think it will work in older games. Just the ones listed on Nvidia’s website in this video. So unless Nvidia changes things you won’t be able to play most of the older games with SLI support that is currently working on 20 series and older GPU’s. I didn’t know this either until the 3080/90 launch and it ruined my plan of increasing my FPS to the max on newer and older games.

      I actually think this is exactly what Nvidia did here is ruin backwards compatibility for 3080/90 series in most games won’t support SLI. So you will only be able to play a handful of games listed on Nvidia’s website. None of them I’m too interested in playing so this is a real let down for me and SLI support. I don’t want to have to go out and buy 2* 2080 Ti’s used when I had my mind set originally on a dual 3080/90.

    Memes aside, Strange Brigade does look like it's well-liked. Just not popular in terms of player count.

    1:01 "Not at all worth the money"
    Bold of you to assume even one 3090 is worth the money.

      Well, every rewiew I have seen makes a note that it isn't, unlesss you use it as a work computer.
      2X3080 would have been fun to see, kicking ass with one 3090 in games, but nah, they didn't want that to be an option.

      Well, Nvidia initially said it was a workstation card, not targeted at gaming...then they went and shot themselves in the foot by boasting about 8k gaming 😂

      @@quirinaled2752 yeah, 8k gaming is great for the 4 youtube tech rewiewers that got a free TV and a 3090...

      Even with Nvidia doing stupid marketing calling the 3090 a “gaming card”, the 3090 is an absolute revolution in productivity for price.
      The gaming space advanced in a magnitude of 1 (price to performance) with the jump to Ampere.
      The dev/production space advanced by a magnitude of 3.5 (price to performance) yet no one is talking about it... and it’s Nvidia’s fault. Ampere cards and rendering machines will REVOLUTIONIZE the workplace.

    Looking at the benchmarks, it would seem only software that is built to take advantage of SLI really benefits, as we saw from Strange Brigade Vulkan, native 4k and 362.5 frames per second is some what impressive! It really is down to the developers, if they do not focus on SLI tech, it really is 50% wastage on GPU performance.

      mGPu doesn't usually use alternet frame rendering like s.l.i & crossfire did. Alternet frame rendering was known to have issuse of stuttering ever since it came out 18 years ago. Reviewers are the one who said it had the highest possible playable fps & good loading on both cards. Having equal load on the cards means nothing, if the frames times aren't consistant ( a.k.a 1% lows & 0.1%) Most mGPU rendering use scissor or splitscreen rendering were one card rends the top & the other renders the bottom. This mean one card is going to have less load because it's only rendering the sky mostly while the other card is renering a lot more geomorety from the ground. The benifit comes in the frame times being mroe constistant.the down side is that it won't produce as high a frame rate as atlernet frame rendering.

    How about a deeplearning benchmark in SLI mode? I think that had to be one of the most important ones, since it has always been said that this card is meant to be for professionals :)
