      ya seemed like the main issues was bluntness of the plastic wedges and friction holding cake pieces in when transfering.
      I think something like this would work well or has potention too but in reality you only need 1 blade after the first cut so some sort of stop to alright it after the first cut would be great.
      Would beable to do those cuts alot faster with a knife either case.

    Okay, as an ex Chef(& ex Pastry Chef) I find this hilarious 😂, in looks, function, & usage. Myself, I look for kitchen gadgets that can do more than one task, as space is not infinite in a kitchen. Second, to cut a perfect slice of pie, cake, pizza, etc etc; you always wanna make 3-4 cuts(slices) & then take out the center most "slice" first; with cleaning the blade before a new cut(depending on desert, having blade in warm or hot water & wiping off water before slicing, can greatly help). This method should pretty much always yield a "perfect" looking desert without any crumbling/tearing/mushing/etc....& can all be done with a chef knife, or basic kitchen butter knife if all you have.
    This does look interesting, but just isn't for me; as takes up too much kitchen real estate, & has basically only 1 function. It also looks as if it's just "pushing" through the cake(or desert), an actually "cutting" the cake(desert). But hey, if works for you & like, as makes your life easier....SUPER👍🏻
    Cheers, A

    I have a wedge and square (sheet) cake cutter I got from Tupperware back in the 90’s. The best one I ever saw was one from the 60’s that was two pieces of thin, lightly sharpened steel on a flexible solid “hinge” at the tapered wedge end: it allowed you to adjust the size of the slice, serve it, and opened easily for cleaning and serving.

You have to set up the kitchen utensils, prepare the dough, check if it's ready baked, prepare a filling, cut the cake layers, assemble the cake, decorate it, do the dishes, store all the stuff back into the drawers. Sure, the baking does the oven, but the time you are involved with actually doing stuff in the kitchen just to get these cakes is way more than 10 minutes.

      @@JC-fj7oo i gotta disagree about the plastic fast food knife... idk, maybe you've got a lot better disposable knives where you are, but the ones i've seen you'd drive your knuckles into most cakes. and yea, i already said it wasn't the BEST cake slicer out there... just saying it isn't the worst, either. it cut the cake, it gets the minimum passing mark. it certainly didn't do a great job of it, so no better than the minimum, but it does at least do the basic job it claims to. "worst of the year" is for products that literally can't do the job they claim to be made for, like if it had failed to survive the dishwasher... or mashed the cake flat instead of cutting, or somehow burst into fire despite having no power source.

    In a restaurant, chefs will usually dip the knife in water to help with cutting consistent and clean slices. I suspect that would help with this device

    to get a clean slice each time, wash the knife or Perslice with hot water between each cut. For a knife, use can just use a glass or jug of hot water

    A cheesecake/cake portion ring and a knife would be the best way to get very even slices, and a knife turned sideways can double as a spatula that's basically cake slice shaped (especially the knife you used in this video). The ring however doesn't work well for pies unless you imprint the portion ring into the dough before baking the pie. When cooked, your pie will have perfect portion slice marks for you to cut along.

  • @TooSweaty4U
    @TooSweaty4U 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The best way to use it would probably be just put the cake size and amount of slices you want into the Perslice, and just press it into the top of the cake and make marks for each slice.
    So essentially you use it just to measure the slices.
    Then you get a regular knife and cut the pieces normally using the marked lines lol

    "Professional" cake slicers ("caterers") know that you have to keep the cutting blade clean between slices. So they usually have a vessel to dip the knife into and a clean cloth to wipe it off between slices.

    If you want perfectly even slightly slices, head to amazon and pick up an ateco 1327 cake portion marker. Many bakeries use this to score a cake before cutting it to ensure even pieces. There are other tricks. But this one is fast and super easy. It’s also 11.33 with free prime shipping.

    Thanks for the video James, I think the idea is good, but a redesign needed. Maybe if they had a squeeze handle, and when you squeeze the slicers go into a triangle, then upon release the straighten to release the slice. I still think a knife is much faster. For really rich cheesecakes at a party I might do the 30slices, but that piece of junk is huge. That's half a drawer to serve cake with "sorta even" pieces. The only reason I could see to use a device like that is in a professional kitchen, but they already have professional slice markers that mark out the even slices and then you cut it with a knife. Then even have pie cutters (at sheri's) that cut the pie and keep the slices separated so the filling doesn't spill.

    Seems the one place this would be a good solution would be for an individual who only has use of one hand.
    Also, the single spatula for moving a skinny slice or a wide slice would seen to be a bad idea, especially if the cake is a dense recipe.
    Also, though it may sound uncouth, a pizza wheel is excellent for slicing pie.

    For just a few bucks get a commercial cake/pie cutter or marker. The marker wouldn't cut the cake, but it helps you make near perfect cuts.

    The metal version of this has been out for years, far less complicated without a "spatula", pressing handle together holds cake while moving it. And you dunk it in hot water between cuttings but a knife is far more simple and faster.

  • @hockeyhacker97
    @hockeyhacker97 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You know the concept isn't bad, it's just the execution. Here is how you take that concept and make it work. Firstly make the blades longer, 5" blades for a 10" cake is tiny, make the blades, oh I don't know 12-14", Now Since the piece count is just a specific angle (IE, 4= 90*, 8=45*, 3=120*, 30= 12*, etc) have one "Blade" set at 0* always and the second blade movable showing rather then x* showing x pieces. So far only difference is pretty much the blade length, now for the changes. Firstly make the second movable blade much sharper, preferably metal rather then plastic so it doesn't dull as quickly and can actually cut the cake rather then smash the cake apart. And secondly have the second blade hinged, why you might ask? Simple you set the duller plastic blade up against the wall of the cake that has already been cut, then with the second sharper blade you press down on the hinge making the cut where the dull blade is used to line up the center with the device and keep the angle the same every time rather then hoping you hold it exactly where the blade is flush with the last cut, often not the case often leading to smaller and smaller slices.
    Those two changes makes a big difference, you will cut the cake rather then smashing it, you will keep the slices the same each time since you are holding the device against something physical to keep them the same rather then hovering above hoping your aligned, and allows for the spatula to work better since you can lift the side blade out of the way allowing the piece to not be pinched in allowing it to come off easier.
    Good concept just flawed execution that can just use a couple of tweaks to the design to make it a lot more feasible.

    If they included thin metal slicers along with those thick plastic ones this thing would be a lot better. Way too thick for delicate desserts. It's smashing as much as it's slicing.

  • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley
    @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just thought of a way to make this better. Have the slicer pop out three-dimensional and you again set the cake/pie size and amount of slices and then just bring it down from above. Push down once and when you pull back up, the entire thing has been sliced instead of going individually.
    You know how they have those plastic tubs with a slicer attached for, say, cubing cheese or dicing vegetables? You just press down and it does the work for you. Well, a bit like that, without cubing, lol. Hell, someone could even sell a plastic container to cut it in so when you cut it, it's already ready for storage. Put a lid on it and forget it!
    I ought to patent this, haha! But whomever takes this idea, have at it and may it make you rich ^_^ I'm too lazy/not very smart for dealing with patents. Or it's a crappy idea in general but that's what I'd do for a cake AND pie cutter. Use it for quiche as well, anything circular-shaped that's at least 8 inches in diameter.

  • @lynnewooten2542
    @lynnewooten2542 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think he's right. This thing is to solve a problem that does not exist. If you really had so many slices that you needed to be even, then you would probably need something faster than this. Plus - who wants such tiny pieces of cake?
