      What does extra ram change about the laptop?

    • @ToddLucasFamily
      @ToddLucasFamily ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@2MuchQuenton Not much if your normal use cases don't exceed your stock ram. I had 16gb of ram, and using Blender and Unity, my computer would slow down a lot. After the upgrade to 40gb, I can look at my ram usage while using these programs and see that its around 20+gb on average. However most games will run you around 10gb, so if you are just a gamer, then 16gb is typically enough ram for you.

      Bro i think a15 supports only 32 gb ram

    • @ToddLucasFamily
      @ToddLucasFamily ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@shubhamshelke5739 Nope. If you dig a little further in your google search, you'll see that it's actually 64GB. Manufacturers typically understate the maximum ram for various reasons. But in any case, I got an A15 and my armory crate lists 40GB (8GB and 32GB).

    • @DankysLit
      @DankysLit ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No it needs to be the same speed, or else the other ram (let's say one at 3200mhz and other at 2666mhz) will lower the original 3200mhz ram and both will be 2666mhz, and there can also be compatibility issues

    • @magnuskallas
      @magnuskallas ปีที่แล้ว

      It is really weird that so many laptops still come with 8GB, even gaming laptops. Must be part of the business to hike the price by 400 pounds/dollars/euros. Especially since that memory costs 20-40. 8Gig hasn't been optimized for good performance for a long time... Even Photoshop has hiccups with less than 16 if running the latest on Win11.

    • @polardabear
      @polardabear ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @magnuskallas
      @magnuskallas ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@polardabear Thing is, one stick of 16 Gig isn't much more than one stick of 8, looking at the stock prices. Crucial 8gig: 30 pounds, Crucial 16: 52 pounds. 22 Pounds difference. Plus manufacturers get factory OEM prices anyway. Max 10-pound difference. It is not cost-saving, it is price politics to better differentiate between 700pound and 1400pound laptops by using tricks.

On many reddit and youtube videos I found that the 32GB kit doesn't work at 3200 but instead work at 2666 MHz due to XMP not unlocked and so it defaults to manufacturer spec. @@dinos_tech thanks for quick reply. But there is also a difference in rams with cas latency. Should I look for it too? BTW. Great channel.

    • @dinos_tech
      @dinos_tech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! That is a great question! It is not recommended to mix and match RAMs with different CAS latency but it is doable and usually the motherboard will match the CAS latency ratio by setting a higher CAS ratio among the installed RAMs e.g. if one has a CL ratio of 15 and the other has 16, then the motherboard will set the CL ratio of 16 for both RAMs. So yes I would try to look for one with the same CAS latency.

    I love how everyone had no issues... just me.

    Nice video, thank you. I am new to this, if I want to just add 1 new 8GB card then does it need to be identical to the one in it currently?
    Also what can I do to reduce the risk of damaging it with static?

    • @dinos_tech
      @dinos_tech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You should be able to add any new RAM stick, just make sure it runs at the same speed for it to be in dual channel. But of course the best way to ensure that is getting an identical one!
      As for the static question, here are some tips below especially if you are opening it up to change the RAM:
      Avoid rubbing yourself against carpeted flooring.
      Touch a metal part of the chassis itself prior to handling components.
      Work on a hard, solid surface.
      Disconnect the battery
      Have fun!

      You can do it without disconnecting the battery, but it's just safer to disconnect to prevent a short circuit or potential damage to the RAM. Even though the computer may be turned off, when the battery is connected, some parts of the computer are still powered on.
