Thanks for the video, just had to follow each procedure step by step and I got my work done :)
Very helpful video
Great job. Some folks disconnect the battery before working on the board/static glove. Still others don't touch those gold connectors on the parts.
I'd like to clarify somethings for people (I've owned this model for 1 year):
First; check which generation your M.2 NVMe SSD is. If you have an A15 like mine your stock specs are a gen 3 500GB SSD.
This means if you upgrade to a gen 4 SSD (which are both M.2 NVMe gen3 & gen4 slots) then you should think of transfering your operating system to your new drive. The difference in gen3 to gen4 is VERY significant being around twice the R/W rate.
There can be signifiganct bottlenecks here. I would also make sure your new SSD comes with DRAM.
Second; make absolutely sure what kind of RAM you have inside and buy appropriately. My A15 comes with 8BG DDR5 @ 4800 Mhz.
Significant bottlenecks can happen here if you pick wrong. Since mine comes with RAM I want to add some. I'm buying 1 x 16GB DDR5 @4800 Mhz.
I'm also pretty sure this doesnt mean I now have 24GB RAM.
Well I do but 8GB of new memory @ 4800 and the 8GB of old memory are now running optimaly as 16GB dual in line and 8GB @ 4800 but in single line. Still great, just not optimal. But also add some virtual RAM or 'paging' from your SDD (probably at least 8GB virtual although I like to have 16-24GB virtual to run virtual OS for fun)
Third; use the tools they give you for optimization. There's this ASUS program which is basically a CNTRL+ALT+DLT on roids. If you're gaming, editing videos, using blender, etc. then turn off browsers and programs. But turn on the MUX and 'optimal game settings' where it forces your computer to dedicate the GPU and higher power output for performance.
Sadly I do not think the Ryzen 7 in this laptop can be overclocked because of the 140W rating and risk of overheating as well as some issue with core designation. But i do think the CAS can be modified in the BIOS to optimize your extra 8GB RAM for dual in line use if you get an additional 16GB like I did.
I'm fairly experienced with computers and I've done all this research on forums after exactly one year owning this computer in stock config.
Ill be purchasing the 1x16GB DDR5 4800Mhz RAM module and 500GB m.2 nvme gen4 SSD on this week. My honest opinion is buy this laptop only if you plan to buy extra RAM immediately or are very good at optimizing memory performance. That other slot should be filled with 8GB min
As an update:
I ended up purchasing 1TB of the new Samsung 990PRO PCIe 4 M.2 2280 SSD without the heat sync. The Black Friday sale was very significant dropping the price to only $80. The version with the heatsync was only $10 more. It's a cool little addition helping keep the temp 5°F-15°F lower and R/W speeds at 100MHz-200MHz higher, there is also, a not insignificant increase in Windows, editing/rendering and especially Gaming performance.
However, I read that the 990PROs had updating peoblems upon release, leading to issues in the firmware. They've rubbed the kinks out of the non-heatsync release but the one with heatsync only just got on the market.
There are also extra programs for the SSD management and there's an RGB strip on the drive which is managed through a different program.
That all seemed a little too much so I just opted for the regular drive (especially since i can always get a $10 heatsync on Amazon, just not proprietary). If anyone does get any version of the 990PRO SSD, make sure that- after installing it and updating the firmware through the proprietary software - *do not simply restart your computer* .
This is how people had firmware issues with warranties that Samsung, typically, did not honor. From what I've read the simple ' _Restart_ ' will not shut the TUF or ROG series mobos all the way off. This *needs* to happen or the SSD firmware won't initialize properly (I read that a voltage on the motherboard will issue different values for dwords and a ton of other nonsenses. If it's restarted you'll need to reinstall, configure your BIOS and alter a bunch of registry files, while if you just want a refund then Samsung won't budge saying you voided the warranty by not listening to the stupid SSD software).
As I've wrote, both of the PCIe ports on the motherboard support the 3.0 and 4.0 so if you plan to upgrade the SSD, you should definitely invest in the 4th generation technology. Regardless of the issues upon release the 990PRO is still the best all around gen4 SSD, possibly even among gen5. I'm certain that it has the highest bulk R/W speeds and power/ heat management of any SSD on the market.
I've also read that the firmware issue is more common in the 2TB versions so decide accordingly.
Lastly, the heatsync version should fit in the laptop just fine, but there is also a 4TB version, but only for the heatsync, and it's likely overkill unless you add the full (2x32) 64GB of DDR5 RAM (although the website says (2×16) 32GB RAM is the maximum, I've read many users claim their system read (2x32) 64GB RAM without issue, showing the channel as dual-in-line on CPU-Z).
*Sorry for all the text, but I've seriously read hours into the datasheets/user-manual and forums. I really enjoy this laptop and I want the rest of the owners out there to have an easier time finding info on proper upgrading than I did. I feel like price-wise and upgradeablity, this is the best all around little gaming laptop on the market.
I spent around $650 on it last year on Cyber Monday and spent around only $120, this Black Friday, upgrading it.
In total this is now a RYZEN 7 6800 CPU, 1.5TB PCIe gen3/gen4 M.2 SSD, 24GB DDR5 @ 4800, w/ a Nvidia 3050ti 4GB GPU and 144Hz quality screen for only $770!
I've never owned a system with such specs so cheaply. The only real competition would be these new Framework Laptop.
Great! Boris, I'll keep on eye on this recommendations!,
I would like to ask to you if the sencond m2 ssd slot is slower than the first one?
@@andresr9802 No me Brother, no slot or bus is slower than the other. Just your own preference of where you want the new drive. Both busses are PCIe gen3 & gen4 so are capable of those speeds.
I believe a PCIe gen5 SSD will work as well but only at gen4 optimal speeds.
@@borisdorofeev5602 thanks bro! Awesome info!
ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST and then drain residue by pressing the power button for 15 seconds. Not good mate
Why? I tried to remove it but the battery is so stiff I didn't think it was removable
Similar experience i tried to remove but i thought i would break it so i didn't bother@@irubi4872
Bro he not talking about battery 😂, he talking about battery switch connection in motherboard 😅😅
hi josh....Much useful video with nice explanation & details!
Keep it up !!
Hi Brother, your video helped me a lot! keep up the good work.👍.
thanks video was very helppful and good i learned few things👍👍
Thank you Josh for clear explanation
Hey josh, this is exactly the Video I was looking for, but is necessary to remove the existing ram before we upgrade it? I was talking about the ASU’s tuf A15 2022 verson which has 16gb ram and 4060
ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST!!!
TRY NOT TO TOUCH THE CONNECTORS OF THE RAM OR SSD
Hi josh .. this video was soo helpful.. soo informative... With proper details.. your step by step explanation really helped me upgrade my Asus TUF A15 .. thanks a lot .
Do i need to disconnect the battery clip before upgrading RAM ?
Thank you for the video, 👍 liked. Will the same process be applicable for the asus tuf a16 Ryzen 7 model? I haven't done this before and will try to follow your steps.
thanks man you helped me !
thanks. What are the other SSDs available for this laptop ? Can you share links ?
Very helpful brother
Omg thank you so much!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Thank you for the video bro
Tq bro helped me a lot 😂 I am a bit exited and fear of damaging 😅
I have the same laptop and I also want to upgrade it with the same configuration as yours, my question here is that I'm actually confused between which ssd is compatable with my laptop because there are two types of NVMe SSDs i the market one having only one cut-out like one you used ans another one with two cut-outs, the sticker on my laptop show 2 cut-outs ssd but you are putting the one cut-out type ssd on yours. Which one should I use ???
can u please show how to apply thermal paste on this laptop?? What are the basic steps? As my laptop is heating way more then it use to be...
Hi Josh, the video was great and informative as always, I need to upgrade RAM on my laptop, but confused as in there are many criteria's to look into while buying like rank, bank and channels in a RAM stick. Could you please make a video on this
Sure. I'll try to do one soon👍
which a15 model is this and does the a15fa506IH also have a extra ssd port?
Bro does the upgrading ram by opening the laptop by myself void the warranty?
I have this same laptop, do you know if the crucial p2 line of ssds is compatible with this laptop?
Goood my joshh
After clg video huh btw cool bruh
Ima take this knowledge and build a massive storage server
Will the second ssd slot take a gen 4 or does is have to be gen 3?
Thank you!
Can I upgrade my ASUS A15 RAM from 8gb to 32gb?
Very helpful video.
Thanks
Bro sdd spedd and ram ? How is spped is surtable ? Plse i want buy both of ramm and sdd foe ausu A15 but 16gb ram also lot of type will be there
Hi
Thank you for the video!
However I have a little issue
I put a 2nd SSD in the other slot, but it's not detected by my PC when I go to the storage. But in the task manager, it is detected as it says "Slot used 2 of 2" but when I go to disk manager, only my first one show up
You should note that it was the SSD I had in a previous laptop (with probably the OS in it) so that's maybe why
Is it showing up in Disk Management ?
What happened? Did u solve it?
Needs formating likely. You bought it used right? Because if you did just go to disk management and format or look up the CMDs for CMD line which are wayyy easier imo.
What exact screwhead do I need to remove ssd screw? Ph0, ph00?
is it a 2tb limit total? or per slot?
Does the additional SSD slot support gen 4?
brother @Josh Joy what if i move my main ssd to another slot is that a probleem

Hi brother can we have hard disk space like F15 or what in A15?
6:51 which tool do you use bro??
if i take of the back and put the ssd does it take my warranty away?
Can I do it with a 2TB instead?
Hello thanks for the video when we add 8gb ram will be dual 16 or it will be just normal 16gb ram?
of course, it will be in dual mode.
Nice...
does it voids warranty ?
Did you disconnect the battery?
when also upgrading the existing ram, do you just remove the old one and replace it with the new one or is there an extra step?
From my experience you just replace the old one.
@@redadabloom-rdb4575 thank you 😊

Hey Man, Thanks for this tutorial.
My A15 laptop came with 256 GB SSD pre-installed. So now can I upgrade my laptop with 2TB XPG S70 SSD Gen 4?
Making it total of 2.256 TB of storage. will my laptop support this upgrade? I have the same model as yours!
Appreciate anyone’s reply 🙏🏻
Good
Can I add an extra 500GB SSD to my 8GB RAM TUF A15 laptop without buying another RAM and adding in, like what you did in this video? Basically, can I just add the 500GB SSD and that's all? Because I just only want to add extra storage for my laptop.
Ofc.
Why adata not supporting
I have the exact same laptop. Does this laptop support ddr5 ram and is ddr5 ram worth it?
Ddr 4
my second slot of ram is not working what should i do
Can we put hdd in tuf a15????
I am unable to take out that little black screw. Which size screw bit you used?
that screw has been threadlocked brother, you wont be able to unscrew it using a basic screwdriver, you will need a soldering iron for it but i guess by now you have already fked up the screw 🤣
I was on the verge of losing my sanity over that screw, but with the little sanity I had left, I took my laptop to the repair store. Half of the screw head was damaged, but fortunately, it didn't require a soldering iron. A small screwdriver bit did the job. 🥲
Bro now I'm facing the same issue and my screw is also got little damaged what to do now?
How to unscrew it???
😢😢😢😢

Bro did u remove the 512GB ssd or u just added the 1TB? So all in all u have 1.5 TB SSd?
I didn't remove it bro. So it all adds up.
Is it possible to add a 2 Tb in the secondary slot to make 2.5 Tb or is 2 Tb (1 Tb in each slot) the limit?
Bro i have a asus rog strix g15 ryzen 7 intel 4800H rtx 3050 gaming laptop please suggest me a good 512 gb ssd for gaming please...

Maximum SSD capacity for both the slots?
1tb+1tb
2tb each slot total 4tb
32gb ram
#we want room tour broo 🙃✨
Not now😂
Is crucial p3 plus suitable for Asus tuf a15?
Yes but not gen 4
Is SSD screw counterclockwise??
I am trying hard but can't unscrew it
Me too bro it's very hard what to do now it's not opening😢
Did you unscrew it now???
Go to any laptop repair shop. Before you damage the screw head more.
I did the same. It needs a perfect fit deeper screwdriver bit. Fortunately, my screw was damaged only on the surface and he managed to unscrew it easily.
Buying a laptop screw kit is also an option for future occurrences but for now don't force it more since it is directly located on the motherboard.
@@wanderer9593 bro if the screw got fully damaged then what is the solution of that i mean then what will a repair shop person do??
Model number ?
can i put 32+32gb ram for a15 2023 version?
No only 32 max 16x16
Does we have to unplug the battery?
Yeah
can one slot of ram be 8 gb and the other slot be 16 bg?
Yes
that internal SSD screw isn't opening I guess I have to go to the service centre
Hey man, I couldn't unscrew that ssd screw, if you installed the ssd, can you tell me how you installed it?
@@kramortas yes so I did a last try and force opened it, I did it but harshly but eventually it opened
@@simpleashWhat screwdriver did you use?
Can it support 512gb ssd + 1tb ssd?
Need urgent response
Yes it does
What’s the maximum gb for ram
32
Does it support ddr5 ram ?
Na
If we add ram and sdd it will affect my laptop warranty
nope, screws aren't hidden on this so you can upgrade and clean it if you want.
Warranty will void or not
It won't void the warranty to replace user-serviceable parts unless damage occurs during the replacement. The replaced parts also won't be covered by warranty
