  • After a month of ownership - dodging rain, wind, and snow as winter transitioned into Spring, the time has come for my 2022 Yamaha MT-09 600 Mile Service.
    I opted to have this service done at my local dealership as it was more involved than a simple oil change. It included an ECU diagnostic, fuel injection synchronization, and a variety of other checks.
    In total, my Yamaha MT-09 First Service came out to 2.50 Hours of Labor plus Materials. Your mileage may vary based on the rates at your dealership but you can expect between $300 and $350
    🟡 UPDATE:
    I've been riding my MT-09 SP for more than a year and recently crossed the 8,000-mile mark. If you'd like to see my long-term review of this bike, check out the link below!

    Glad you’re enjoying your new bike, that’s quite a list for 600 miles. 11 hours would be tough on any bike, that’s a long day. Also the new shed looks great, plenty of room.

    Got my 2022 now. Was curious, you think I could get away with just changing the oil at 600 mi by myself? I know they check over everything, but the service is $400 at my dealership and I think its pretty insane....half of what they check I simply can't see having issues that early on. The only real service that will be done for sure is an oil change, and I can easily change it on my own bike. If you think it'd be better to take it in, I probably will do that. I just don't want to get screwed over by dealership fees. Obviously if it was scheduled for something like a valve adjustment or something similar, I would take it in no questions asked.

    • @WaltInPA
      @WaltInPA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a tough call - the big part of the service is the oil change to get possible metal shavings out from break in. They also connect to the ECU and do a diagnostic.
      If the bike is running well (as it should be after only 600 miles) and you had the ECU Recall taken care of - you might be okay changing the oil yourself and holding off until your next service (which I believe is 4,000 miles)

    • @heep34987yt
      @heep34987yt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I changed the oil myself at 600 miles. Then at 1200 miles I took the bike in for the ECU recall. No issues or grief from the dealer. I used Yamalube and an OEM filter and kept receipts for warranty purposes. I asked about the 4000 mile service and they said it would cost around $500.00 If anyone knows if that is a fair price let me know!

    I got the exact same bike, my dealership asking $695 for the first service which is freaking crazy, or I can buy a maintenance package for $2000 and that covers only the first 4 services which still $500 each if you do the math
    I would be okay with the $300 but they are ripping people off so I did the oil change myself and did the visual check, I'm not paying $700 for oil change it's MT09 not a Lamborghini

    • @WaltInPA
      @WaltInPA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When compared to other dealerships in my area, the one I went to tends to be on the higher end from what I understand. Even at $330 I felt like I was paying a lot for what seems like a fairly simple service. I can't imagine being quoted double that. I mean, if the 600 Mile Service is almost $700 what are they going to charge for the 4,000 mile service that is more involved?
      Some of the prices that are showing up in the comments are shocking.

      Hey Evan,
      Yes I did 👍
      I was talking with Cordel (my salesman) while the paperwork was being done and he mentioned that they only got two SP's and weren't expecting any more this year due to availability.
      I just crossed 1,000 miles earlier this week and so far it has been fantastic.
      How long did you wind up waiting on yours? I put a deposit down on mine in October and at the time, the other SP was reserved. I'm curious how much longer you had to wait?

    • @ToxemicHunter
      @ToxemicHunter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WaltInPA I believe I put my deposit down in September, for what was then going to be a 21'. At first I was a bit miffed about the new paintjob, I really liked the black. But after seeing the 22' coloring in person I was very impressed.
      I really didn't think it was ever going to come in, I was totally shocked when it arrived. I have to say it is one of the best machines I have ever piloted, I could not be any happier. I will likely take off the OEM exhaust and open it up/make a few modifications and weld it back up to see if I can get a little more sound out of it.

      @WaltInPA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know for sure but skimming over the MT-07 Owners Manual (Yamaha makes them available online for free) - the service intervals look the same (600 then every 4,000 miles) and the service appears to cover the same items / checks / diagnostics. I'd guess that maintenance costs are going to be roughly the same.

      It is more than I want to spend but I think I'm going to order a Comfort Seat at some point. I think it will be worth it on longer trips. I just hope it is covered with the same material as the stock seat (very grippy, especially on riding jeans).
      With the CB I had to stop and walk around every 90 minutes or so, otherwise I'd start to get sore. The seat on that bike wasn't exactly plush but I didn't think it was awful either.

      The pegs seem very easy to adjust - you just unbolt and re-bolt into the new location. The handlebars are a little more involved because you have to line them up after you rotate the mount but not difficult to do.
