- Its springtime so I have the Suzuki TS185 pulled into the shop to be cleaned up and make some improvements for the upcoming riding season. I have been needing to tidy up the wiring a bit and get the LED turn signals installed. Check out the other fun addition orange under-glow lights, why not?! Can’t wait to put some miles on this thing this year, follow along and subscribe for a riding video soon!

I'm restoring a '74 ts185, and I figure if I go 12 volt I'll wait first until I get everything running great at 6 volts and I get to understand how the wiring works in 6 volt. The lights on this guy's 185 are amazing! I'm not taking mine out on the street at night until I get some led upgrades like that. I think I've got some problems finding 6 volt led's. I don't think a 6 volt led headlamp is even available for this bike like the 12 volt ones are.
Thanks! Once you dig into the wiring its pretty simple
@@theclevercraftsman I'm trying to figure out now if my original factory system uses ac or dc to power the lights. There's a separate coil on the magneto that's just for the lights. Since I bought a bunch of expensive new old stock electrical parts, I'd like to keep it all stock if I can. There are very bright and decent quality 6 volt led headlight bulbs out there that can take ac. I've hacked into the original burned out sealed beam, and I'm modifying it with a dremel tool to receive regular replaceable bulbs. There are vintage dirt bikes out there that have ac lighting. If I'm not mistaken the old 70's TS's are among them. Still learning and studying about this bike. The electrics are sorta weird but very simple. There's not that much going on in the wiring harness. I want a bright headlight like you have without going as far as changing to 12v. Maybe I can figure out a way.
I am restoring a 73 TS250 also and would love to see a video or get info on what wires you tapped into to get your new turn signals to work, Since the TS series bikes will continued to be restored and you are a wiring genius! I would love to see a tutorial on how you did it. Beautiful bike and work sir.
Wow. Idling @ 8 Grand. 😀. Cool lights.
....yeah, need a new tach cable...
It's a nice bike and resto job. I have 1973 TS185 that I'm converting to an adventure bike, the original lights were removed so I'm going all battery and wireless LED.
Long live the TS185 lights too wow.🤠
I'm hoping to pick up a 1971 TS185 this coming monday and I came here looking for info on how the Vape system works. It's very expensive! Especially shipped to the USA. Mine is missing all the lights so it looks like converting to 12v like yours might be the best option considering how hard finding original parts will be.
The Vape system is expensive, but shipping to the US is not an issue. Just look for a supplier that is local. I got mine from a retailer from Ohio selling new ones on ebay and it shipped out to me the next day!
Very impressive, TS185 about 45 yrs-old and now it's better than new. I believe Suzuki made these until 2015. Your resto video was too short for me. Since I know these bikes, I would like to have seen work on the front shocks, swing arm bearings, Cush drive, the new seals you put on gear selector, kick starter . But very impressed with the upgrade to electronic ignition and 12v, very!
My son bought one recently. Struggling to find a carburetor and battery for it
Nice
Great work!
But he loves riding it.
Hey, new to the motorcycle world, inherited my grandpas ts185 and I'm looking to update all of the lights, what all did you use here and where can I get them?
I used all LED bulbs which are 12v. My TS was 6v originally thats where the new stator comes in. The headlight and turnsignals were from amazon/ebay. The tail light is just an LED bulb in an oem fixture
Random question but does your tropometer have a reset? Mine just has a hole leading in that I would assume has something to do with resetting it. Would be a continent tool to track fuel usage.
Also is the stock 185 supposed to have a backlite speedometer and tachometer? All electronics work on mine except that if it's supposed to have it.
The trip on mine was broken. They are backlit
@@theclevercraftsman Well looks like I'm off to O'Reillys in the morning to see if they have a bulb my size. I'm considering converting my headlight to led as a winter project. I love the orange glow light, that's a nice touch.
@@Quadrenaro thanks! The orange is fun
Do you have the link to those lights?
Appreciate you posting videos on the TS 185, a bike I am specifically looking at acquiring. Appreciated the renovation you did on your father’s bike. Is this the same bike? Btw, have to seen the rebuild of a TS185 by Purpose Built Moto? I was considering a TS125 offered by Kaplan Motorcycles but after comparing the TS125 to the TS185 decided to narrow my search to a TS185. Appreciate the options for modifying the bikes. Again, thank you for posting this video.
Thanks! I will be making a riding video soon
I also have a 1971 90 that I hope to do a restoration video on someday
