    Why didn't they just have Jesse say "I can't help you with your campaign...because I got expelled right before graduation for driving my motorcycle into the gym." You'd get laughs and a callback to the other episode.

    This is great man. I'm a little older than you but not by much. Grew up with a very broken family and the Tanners always felt like my "real" family. My family solved issues with yelling and fighting while they'd talk it out and hug it out. It was great. As the writer mentioned; it was intended to go on tv and disappear one day, but here we are in a new age.
    Can't say I ever noticed this plot hole but I vividly remember both episodes so clearly.
    Thanks for the write up and video and glad you could be a part of the Tanner legacy. :)

    We see this in a great many of the shows of the 60's, 70's and 80's. They didn't really care very much about continuity while making these shows.They didn't understand or were unable to predict the marketability of these series in syndication and sale of seasons on DVD, wherein superfans would watch episodes multiple times and dissect storylines. As a writer of fanfiction for several obscure series of that time period, I have run into this on numerous occasions.

  • @CHASEMARC
    @CHASEMARC ปีที่แล้ว

    if he left before walking up to get his diploma without a major reason (like being drafted/joining the military) it is possible the school board expelled him giving him an incomplete.
    it can happen, in one school an 18 year old female student who had a GPA of 4.0 and would have been the valedictorian was expelled 2 days before graduation because she (for some reason) filmed an adult movie that was released before she graduated even though at 18 you are not a minor. it violated "decency" clause in the private school she was in.
    he also might have found out in the earlier episode from one of the teachers
    also you picked that as the biggest plot hole: Jessie's last name changed in the middle of the show from Jesse Cochran to Jesse Katsopolis (born Hermes Katsopolis)

      It's because back before streaming/dvd box sets, we had 52 weeks a year. When a season is 20+ episodes, you only got to see maybe 2 episodes a year unless the show was so popular it got multiple airings. Even then, what are the odds you get to watch them all?
      Writers didn't keep track of things in one off jokes and unless we binged during a marathon, we usually missed it.

    I never saw that as a plot hole because I knew people like Jesse. He was popular and loved by all. It would be shameful if he told people he wasn't graduating. So he lied. Told everyone he was walking together. And maybe even do rehearsal. But come the big moment. He isn't there, he didn't have enough credits. He never went back to school to finish the credits because he doesn't want the younger ones to see his shame. So he dropped out. Because at the end of the day. Once high-school is over most people don't see each other every again. Because fall comes and everyone has jobs or have gone away to college or just plain moved.

      Well, yes it is technically a plot hole. But the show isn’t actually real life, it’s make believe. So like in the way ppl come up w SpongeBob and breaking bad theories, Jesse not graduating in contradiction to him graduating early on in the series is easily explained away. That said, it was a neat story how he spoke w the writer. I was actually waiting for him to throw in an explanation as a twist somehow. Like resolving it w the writer like that in some way. But either way it’s pretty cool that he was able to talk w the writer. Sometimes you never know the possible opportunities that can arise by just simply asking.

    I do think the two plot points aren't terribly irreconcilable if they wanted to expand on it. One possibility is that he did actually get expelled (how would that work if you've passed your final exams anyway?). The second possibility that he thought he was graduating but actually he was being held back a year but he was such a truant he didn't even know before graduation day (and then gave the big middle finger to that idea). Third possibility is that he was laid back about driving his motorcycle into the gym because he had already quit but he didn't want to admit that to his girlfriend.

    There was also a huge plot hole…where Uncle Jesse in one episode reveals his first name is actually “Hermes”…and in another episode….first season, if I remember correctly…he said his last name was “Cochran”…I know these things…because I used to have an email address that was “HermesCochran”…at whatever email site I was on…anyway…full house is amazing…The Katsopolis just was created later since Stamos wanted to use his Greek heritage as part of the character….and I agree…the episode with Papouli and then the Stavros one…are awesome…him being Greek makes the character a lot cooler…

    • @YTistooannoying
      @YTistooannoying ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You know, maybe you solved the plot hole. Jesse Cochran graduated and Hermes "Jesse" Katsopolis didn't.

      The causation is reversed here.

    • @jaketheman091
      @jaketheman091 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the changing of Cochran to Katsopolis was a deliberate creative choice, and a cool one at that. But if there's only a single mention of "Hermes" that's only played for laughs and never mentioned again, is that really a plot hole? If you never again choose to bring up a name that you're born with and you're otherwise embarrassed by, so be it! lol! To me, it could play out as if initially, Jesse was simply going by Jesse Cochran, as an ode to the musician Eddie Cochran, but then slowly revealed his Greek ancestry over time.

    • @coleyjervase
      @coleyjervase ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaketheman091 Jesse is a musician after all, so maybe Jesse Cochran was his stage name? And then as the seasons go on and his Greek heritage is explored, we learn his real lastname is Katsopolis

    1. We never saw him graduate. 2. He could have been lying to his girlfriend. Hell I knew a guy who did graduate and kept coming back to our high school because he was such a loser he wouldn't move on. Jesse could have been expelled but kept showing up anyway. 3. Funniest option from comments, he actually was expelled for the motorcycle stunt, or held back and then refused to finish. Or any other technicality that might have required him to go to Summer school, but he ended up refusing. That would make the most sense, it would mean he thought he was going to graduate, it would mean he did drop out by refusing another semester. It would even make sense that he'd not think it was a big deal then, but be embarrassed and ashamed of it years later. It would also explain him being invited to his high school reunion without actually graduating.
    I went to 3 high schools. I could have gone to any of their reunions. I only graduated from one. Graduating isn't an absolute rule for a reunion.
    This reminds me of Adam Carolla who believes he never technically graduated from high school. He was told they wouldn't give him his diploma or let him walk in the ceremony unless he paid an overdue book fine. He didn't pay the fine, never got the diploma.

  • @brandonayong5823
    @brandonayong5823 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I always knew about this and thought that it would have been a great idea if the writers did this on purpose to illustrate Jesse being ashamed of being a dropout and living this lie but the flashback episode kills that theory. It use to really bothers me but I got over it. Just like Jesse signing deals with labels on episodes and then going back to struggle with his music as an independent without explanation. Most sitcoms have those holes to be fair. I think that's because back in those days you would watch the show in real time so the writers probably thought that if something was said 3 seasons ago it won't be remembered by anyone 3 years later.

    • @jaketheman091
      @jaketheman091 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only deal he ever signed was with Fat Fish Records. I'm not sure what else you could be referring to - having one number one hit in Japan and then plateauing thereafter? That doesn't necessarily insinuate a plot hole. Plus, for all we know, he could have been a one hit wonder. just sayin! lol

    Grew up in the 80's and 90's, we only had broadcast TV those days in my country, it was only public TV so we had 3 channels to choose from. Full House was always aired just before prime time, around 7pm I think. My sister and I would always tape it on the VCR and we spent years watching those reruns on VHS tapes. Those episodes really were magical for us kids, they showed us a better family life where everything ended as an experience learning something and it was always hugs after any conflict. It really did take us away from the much bleaker real world. Many thanks to Tom and all those involved in the series, you guys really did make this little boy's life feel better for half an hour each week. 🥰🥰🥰
