    I admire the way you work with your horses so much. I often get discouraged with the horse world and recently had to quit riding because i was getting so deeply sad about the way horses were being handled around me. Seeing your videos gives me hope that things can be done in a kinder way. Thank you. All the best.

      @@Milestone-Equestrian keep doing what you are doing need more people like you that don't do it the "old cowboy way" of like "you gotta make them respect you so beat the crap out of them" or "just throw a saddle on that 4 year old that has never been around people and make them blow up and flip over" I know a 4 year old that never gave a crap about having a saddle thrown on her from the get go because she trusts people her first ride was a trail ride and now she always wants to go out

      We can take heart, I entirely changed my approach with horses after 40 years when I got a new one 5 years ago. My current horse absolutely will not tolerate being handled in a traditional way, and it must be an agreement between handler and him. My trainer taught him lay down over a year and a 1/2 that was force free rewarding each small step towards progress. And now he will lay down and wait for his treats with just pawing the ground with your own foot.

    What a triumph! When Mesa whickered at you I nearly cried! That she has become so trusting and WANTS to come to you is HUGE. She is learning so much, and seems calm and very happy now.
    Juniper is such a goof, she is smart and happy, and looking forward to her safe future.
    Your methods with these horses prove sound. Anyone can do this with any horse. Imagine starting foals like this? They would be such better companions, friends, partners. Calm horses don't get ulcers from stress or fear, they get hurt less from not running away or freaking out. The humans also get hurt less because the horse respects them and cares for them. There are so many benefits to this method. Great work! ❤❤❤

    It makes me so sad to think that the majority of horses out there and on a global scale will never know this kind of patience and understanding. But it is, of course, fantastic to see you do such marvelous work AND gaining more of a following by the day. Hopefully one day we can realize that there is, gasp, safety in the knowledge that you have a willing partner instead of relying on abhorrent methods of force and control to get the job done. Keep fighting the good fight.

Mine were not wild just had a few issues caused by previous owners I just went into their paddocks and we all enjoyed each other's company All were handled at liberty This was an intuitive way for me. This is actually inspirational. I want to go into the rescue/training field (of course I have a trainer), and I love to see what methods are effective. My goal has always been to train a mustang when I'm older and have my own place, as I'm only 15. Liberty/tackless/groundwork has always been what I wanted to do, but I had to end my lease a few years back on my appaloosa, whom I'd ride better in just a halter bareback than in full tack. He seemed to enjoy it more. This sparked an intrest in me, and I knew I wanted to do something like this. I currently have the oppertunity to help do some firsts with a little auction pony from Mexico. We have barebacked, jumped 3ft, and done some wide oxers. I can't wait until I have the resources to do something like this.

    You are doing an amazing job. I’m upset to hear that you had problems adopting here in United States. Maybe because they are trying to prevent them going straight to slaughter? Idk. While I very much appreciate your approach and do agree it’s for the best, many horses would be left living in pens or worse , if they couldn’t be trained and sold onto a hopefully good home. Horses are very expensive to keep even on your own property much less if boarding at a facility. Hay and feed in the United States has gone up to insane levels. You can humanely train in much less time but in a perfect world your way is ideal.

    Hi! I just found out about R+ training and it’s boggling my mind a bit, so I’m trying to find out more. For things like riding, does the training ever get to the point where a reward isn’t needed (eg a horse will always stop on a whoa without reward)?
    How does it work if you need to be “louder” for them to understand you? Take a horse drifting on a lope circle despite leg and rein cues. I would bump the rein and increase leg pressure to make myself more clear. Does pressure/cue scaling like this exist?
    What happens if a horse gets pushy or dangerous on the ground? In these cases I push the horse away with big body language and bumps with hands until they stay away. Does R+ just ignore behaviors like this? My initial impression is that R+ is mainly for horses that are already well-mannered and respectful but this may be wrong.
    Again, I’m completely new to this so I don’t have a good understanding of the intricacies. But always looking to learn!

    I would think wild brumbies are better off in the wild than ending up as dog food. So many people breeding horses then you have an excess where they are not looked after. Same with dogs and cats you have puppy farms where dogs are bred to death. Surely there are enough animals around without taking them from their environment?

    • @Milestone-Equestrian
      @Milestone-Equestrian  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The first behaviours they’re taught are neutral head positions and how to behave in order to accept treats. you get what you reinforce so if horses become more pushy, it means we are unconsciously reinforcing that.

    Please learn Marty Roberts "Join-Up" method! Which you can watch on TH-cam in numerous vids.
    You see, horses have a language. Through looks, gestures, movement, you may learn what they mean. By performing the "Join-Up" procedure, your horse, any horse will soon place it's muzzle on your left shoulder! They'll follow you around like a puppy and be your friend forever!

    • @Milestone-Equestrian
      @Milestone-Equestrian  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The join up method has been debunked and it has nothing to do with equine behaviour. I study equine behaviour in post secondary and work as a behaviour consultant as a profession. Monty Roberts did a great job of marketing it as what you say but it’s been completely debunked in science and would merely be using aversive pressure to make my mustangs run until they come in to me, damaging the relationship I’ve built with them.
