You sir are a true horseman of the best kind. I am in tears over how you respect the mind and emotions of this youngster. It takes the time it takes. Thank you for sharing.

This suburban flatlander is just loving this. So much respect, and amazement at the diversity of the the terrain and culture of our great country. Cowboy culture is so endemic to the foundation of America. Love from Boston 🤠

So glad that the term "breaking colts" is done and gone. Starting colts has replaced it and the horses that come out of that process have a solid life time foundation for stress free learning.

“Breaking” was brutal, and less about training, more about submission.

My dad always called it "making a horse" never breaking a horse

This was so well done! I shared it and I surely hope people watch it! Especially the part with the youngster. That foundation work sets the stage for everything else.

I see a lot of wisdom and honesty in your video. I would like to see more videos like this in the future.

I like how they didn’t create fear with training, it’s all about having a partner you can trust.

Good job Grant. We are on the same page for the most part. We are doing our best to make horse's lives better. Thanks.

I liked that very much, that last little bit where the guy was bareback on the horse was epic, not going anywhere just being there

John Lyons round pen reasoning is a good read on starting colts .

We think a lot alike and treat horses with very good horsemanship. I hope we cross paths someday to compare notes.

What is that on the front of your chaps? Looks like a spike antler.

I his your philosophy @5:15 he just described pack dynamics in training dogs, insecurity can show as aggression such as fear biting, discipline can be a sit/stay or a sharp NO!. People forget dogs are not humans and same with horses, I've ridden some sour horses due to lack of boundaries. It's not advocating what's best for the animal in the long run.

Some traditions are best left it the past. Bring those things forward that are in the best interests of the horse. Leave all else behind.

How do you feel about the practice of teaching the unnatural low headset ??

    • @katiek.8808
      @katiek.8808 2 ปีที่แล้ว

What is unnatural about a low head set? When a horse is relaxed their head is low. If you ride a horse enough the head will naturally come down.

Thank the Lord for Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance. The horse trainer industry is much better off turning out horses that will continue to build on their fundamentals with better minds and personalities.

How much time do you have to break oh I am sorry start a cold , how many cows do you have ,how much country do you have to cover. You talk about the safety of the colts , you tell me witch is saver running a colt a two year old a seven year old around in a make shift round pen that they could stick a leg through it and breaking it’s leg ? By looking at your pen set up you have never be on a working cow ranch you have the wild rag the high top boots the leggings you have no ideal what it’s like to break oh sorry to start 60 head of colts in 20 days . Don’t put down the Cowboy way of breaking horse’s
