Oh cool, never knew my 1030 could control music… checks comments…oh that’s why I never knew this.
Something Garmin cannot do: Roll much needed updates to the 30s series
They have stopped doing updates to the x30 devices. I watched a GPLlama Garmin update video and he stated Garmin told him that only critical updates will be pushed. Given the x40 series were released over two years ago, that's good.
@@jamesmckenzie3532only one year ago, not two. But your point still stands, it’s a superseded device that they’re still supporting with security and other major fixes.
@@jamesmckenzie3532 "that's good" for the environment or for their pockets? x30 series are capable devices. I would have rather continued using them on subscription so they keep updating instead of a new hardware, which is almost identical apart from software features. They still look and feel like mobile phones in 90s.
My upgrade to 540 was really due to sensor drop issues of 830, which to me is critical, to them maybe not. A friend has an older fenix and told me Garmin stopped syncing his data because they stopped all support, not like they stopped updating the software. It's not sustainable to buy a new device every 4 years. They're the one forcing it to users by making the old devices more obsolete than necessary.
Has it really been that long since the x40s were launched? Time really does fly 😂😂
@@87togabito I got my nicked bike back and asked about waiting until the 840 came out. I should have as it was only a couple of weeks later.
830 and 530 do not have the ability to control music. Garmin support tells me so, or is there a firmware update I missed?
I have the same issue with my 1030 Plus
Same with my 1030
Nah! This is my complaint. I am aware that Garmin wants to make money and attach hardware to software. I am willing to pay! 10-15 usd to unlock these features on my older gen devices. If any of Wild ones read this, please help. 😢
Because else the device is working totally fine. I'm not going to upgrade my Garmin 1030 plus until it just won't work anymore or I crash.
I think it would be a good faith move for Garmin and maybe they come out on the other end with a little profit or at least 0. I could imagine a lot of people with 530/830s wanting these non-hardware specific features
No it is not available, 530 has no touch screen so that doesn't work
I was kinda excited to have the music feature on my 530 but no dice unfortunately.
0:25 Not possible add Music control on 1030/830/530.
I can't on the 1030 Plus either. The option Music Control doesn't show
true, doesn't work on the x30 series
Checked, not working on 830.
This was the one that got me excited... Followed the instructions and said "shit"
@@theogohioan1633 same shit for me😂
Something else that's fun, if you have a varia device, is a third party data field (from the connect store), to see the exact speed a vehicle behind is driving. That not only alerts you to that vehicle coming, but also gives you an impression of the type of driver, even before you look over your shoulder. For instance if you see they are breaking the speed limit, you can mentally prepare for a driver that isn't too keen to follow rules and conventions. This should also work stationary, so you basically have a laser gun too, using your Garmin varia handheld, for if you for instance want to collect data to support a case for you local government.
You can also see it as dark red color line for speeding vehicles
music control isn't supported by 830...? If it was, 840 wouldn't have any real feature to upgrade for
"Crossed swords"? Not sure you wanted to use that term, did you Jimmi?
flufup of the week!!!
Why? It's a perfectly normal expression
if you dont even cross swords with your mates before work then youre missing out
I'm having trouble getting the music controls to work on an Edge 530. The music controls option is not showing while adding a data screen. Anyone else having this issue?
You, garming or both are way off from the supported devices. Edge 530 can't do this things, and I suspect any Garmin without touch screen lacks the control music panel among other stuff
(I'm not a diabetic but . . .) I noticed in a Team NovoNordisk post that diabetics can pair their continuous blood glucose monitor to their bike computer (if compatible).
Good timing and helpful information as I just got the 840 few days ago.
All right, I'm surprised. As someone who's meticulously read the whole manual and hangs out on the forums...you got me with one! I had no idea about the generate-a-route feature, and that's super useful to me. By the way, you can add music controls as "widget" from the top drop-down instead of as a page on a particular activity profile.
My EDGE 530 not have music control :-(
I was supposed to buy a Wahoo Elemnt BOLT V2 which is still getting FW updates, even the BOLT V1 recently got an update and new features but my garmin isn't getting anything and probably never will, it's a shame. And the price for the new EDGE 540/840 is absurdly high.
But in the end my EDGE 530 works fine and I have almost zero problems with it.
Music controls are not available on Edge 1030 and Plus
yes have just discovered the same, which is a shame
Jimmy read the Manuel! lol 830 not supported. love u guys
Great video, and I don't even own a garmin. It's on my list of nice to haves, but I'm not taking the plunge to get one just yet.
Hopefully by the time I really want one, the Chinese brands have caught up a bit.
I'd mainly want the more basic features anyway.
Just made the change to Wahoo. Never going back.
wasted a perfectly good couple hours trying to get to music control on my 830, otherwise great video
A few takeaways from this video;
1) some of the OG jerseys 👌🏼
2) who is Bartholemew 😂
3) quite concerned for Jimmi as that looked like quite a nasty fall😮
So, Strava segments are only available if you have Strava subscription
make your own on garmin connect. Send to device and it notify you.
You got me excited about the music controls on my 1030 plus as I thought you couldn't. Turns out I still can't💔
Same.
Great video chaps! The only downside of incident detection is if you brake quite hard it goes off!!
1030 Plus doesn't have the option to add Music Control
I love my Garmin. (Edge, pedals, scales, Fenix…)
Ive several events set up and am using the daily suggested workouts to train for them. It’s highly likely that Garmin knows more about me than I do! But it’s working, I am getting stronger and faster. Plus, I do love a metric
Great tips guys. One additional request do you know how to do lap times?
I have the Edge 520 .., which of these are compatible with it? Also I bought it from a friend and it has saved rides on it, so should I factory reset it or what.
Thanks in advance... New to the head unit's
Smart Alerts definitely works on the Edge Explore, I use it on mine, but it's missed off the list.
It also has Incident Detection.
I want one that can link to my insulin pump (Medtronic 780G). Any ideas to make that work?
damn... this was actually handy. Thanks boys.
Got all excited for music control on my 830 😢
Innacurate info for some of the models listed. Cannot control music/podcasts with Edge 820.
Cannot find the music control option on my Edge 830 😢
Because it’s not on the 830 🙃
too poor
@@MackBXIII😂😂
Great video, Boys! 👏👏👏 However, shame on Garmin for their policy of not bringing updates to the xx30 Series that those computers clearly can handle. Example, the chip in my Garmin 1030+ could easily handle Garmin's new "Free Ride Climb Pro" functionality. But you're never going to see that feature if you have any xx30 unit simply because Garmin wants to force you to spend hundreds and hundreds of $€£¥¢₩ on a xx40 unit. Wasting people's money and wasting natural resources is not cool Garmin.
Just in time 😂 I got my 1040 yesterday 😎
I could use a video like this for my new Hammerhead Karoo!
1030+ Do not have abitlity to control music😢
Think you guys should contact Garmin🎉
i vote Francis get the routes he has ridden across the continents as tattoos. so just some squiggly lines.
I‘d love to put „start playlist „liftoff““ on one of the DI.2 hood buttons for the last bit of a race.
Thanks Francis and Jimmi..
False alerts with the incident detection device can be a huge pain in the neck particularly with my garmin watch. I have had 6 falce incident alarms.
How good are the suggestions? do not have it on the 830
My ancient Garmin 510 can't do any of those 😂
That incident reporting can be a pain in the arse. It goes off sometimes when I've stopped gently at lights. the food/drink reminder i didn't know about
Anyone know when they will be adding go pro control?
got Garmin Gear for the Spotify integration,😂
Jokes on you i don't even have a garmin. I only have sigma because i want that people know that i am a sigma. 😀
i so hope the phone number you showed in the video is not a private...
I didn't know it could stop working mid ride.
I like that my Edge 540 can control my music, but so can my earbuds. I can pause, play, skip, and adjust volume all with a tap on the bud. But these are all great tips for those of us who haven't dived into the everything these Garmin devices can do.
Quicker to get your phone out than work out how to control music with the 540 buttons! I only ever use it to see what song I’m on.
Does Someone know how to Connect a forerunner Watch (as a hartbeat sensor) to a edge explorer 2, i figured it out once but now it doesn’t seem to work anymore…
0:25 well, this is bullsit....
Just to add, if you want to do 15 seconds interval sprints how would you do?
Doesn’t look like the musics available on the edge 530 I just checked
No music control on any of the x30 versions, unfortunately
you say that these unit are compatible with the music app not true with the 1030 plus
Francis and Jimmi - YOU FORGOT TO BLUR OUT THE PHON NUMBR, MATE!
Useful, thank you for diving into the manual so we don't have to
I know what it cannot do: actually connect to anything quickly and easily!
I realised that my wahoo can control my music by accident because I was fiddeling around with it and suddenly music was blasting out of my back pocket
Garmin - if you’re listening - what’s the reason x30 series aren’t being updated? My 1030 Plus was a big investment so obviously didn’t expect it to be outdated so soon. If that’s the decision, can you create a trade-in program? Thanks.
The reason is they are purposefully locking new features to newer (read: more expensive) so you will spend money to get them. The shareholders constantly demand higher revenue. That's capitalism for ya
They don’t sell the old ones so it would only cost them money. You were happy with the features when you bought it, so….
how to turn off the annoying edge connected /disconnected notifications?
My edge 530 doesn't even do what it's supposed to since the home screen update, no training load/status/ workout benefit etc.
the music controller screen does not exist for the Edge 530. I double checked all over internet and Garmin confirmed on their own forum that it won't be supported 😒
130 plus doesnt have music Control 🤔
Now do Wahoo Roam ?
Not a sponsor
Edge 520 Plus- no music widget?
Thanks for the tips. Do you know if there's a possibilty to let Strava live segments overlay the Garmin screen while following a course? This doesn't seem to work on my Garmin Edge 830. So while following a course I don't see strava live segments even though I have Strava premium and the course is marked with a 'star' on Strava.
Yeah, it's a thing with garmin... while following a course you will get 0 live segments pop up. You have to not be following a route and the segments should pop up if you have the settings to do so turned on. Also a tip, in strava you can select few segments and "star" them to make sure they will pop up on the garmin (another thing is, you will only get live segments that are "uphill" meaning gradient of over 0.1% if it's downhill, it doesn't show it. I was disappointed about that too.
Hopefully this helped to clarify things💪
@@giordanohaas8876100% correct.
the TH-cam squirrel staged a more realistic accident scene than you🤣🤣🤣!
I've a HH k3 👍
It would be great if my Edge 130 Plus would stop crashing in the middle of my rides. Just decides to reboot then says "ride in session" and I have to hit start to begin tracking data again. If I catch it in time it's not too bad but if I'm not paying attention I miss miles of tracking. Device is up to date and have owned it for one season. All the bells and whistles are great but first and foremost make your devices stable!
Incident detection…and you dearest actually has her phone switched on. 3 weeks on, the physical scars are just about healed, but the emotional one…😅
I don‘t have a Garmin anymore….😂
Actually you only need either a heart rate monitor OR powermeter, not both for workout planner.
Not possible on the Edge 530
They need lte on the next device, I'm not lugging my iPhone pro max around with me, gone as far as getting a cheap android phone but also not practical. Often want to send my wife or family / friends a message if I'm running late. Till then sticking with 830.
830 can't play music
My 130 plus cannot do this
music control seems at the limit of the law, in france for example, it is strictly forbidden to ride with headphones on ( same when driving a car )
Why? You can use it indoors. It’s not illegal to have the controls
Hello
- Jimmi
Fenix & Epix watches & Explore 2 computer
What bike does Jimmi ride in this video?
wahoo vid coming next?
Don't hold your breath
incident alert is way too sensitive as it would go off if i stopped quickly. had to turn it off, so pointless
Sponsored by Garmin, but not fact checked by Garmin it seems.....
What’s a group ride? Sounds terrible.
For music controls, you can add them as a Widget as well(Menu, System, Widgets, Add Music Controls) This means it doesnt have to be a data field/page, and you can just pull down the menu and access them there.
This! Much handier.
Doesn't work on my 1030 plus
I don’t have garmin, too expensive
I’d just like my Garmin to stop locking up. I find it almost as annoying as Angela Rayner.
not working ...1030p ....bull"""""
Buy a Wahoo Roam V2, thank me later.
i realy love your videos :) but this one feels like overequipping cycling...
Why controlling music over a front device? Use the buttons on your bluetooth headphones!?
I have a "music for cycling" folder and so i don't have to skip.
Greetings from a Wahoo-user.
i dont have garmin.
Same Video for Wahoo pls
I am waiting for the day that someone implements a bell sound to one of these devices... I don't want to have an f'ing bell on my road bike so please someone make a bell sound available on some button
And why do i need to change the bike i use always afterwards when im not on my standard bike?!?! It drives me nuts 🤬
My lezyne asked me first when i switched it on. It would be so simple and save so much time 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
2:55 they are not so smart. These reminders block the entire screen even if you're in a tricky areas e.g. downhill sharp turns or at a complex junction. I had to turn this feature off due to safety.
I just came in the hope that they show how to turn off the virtual partner
You can’t 😭
The Garmin Connect app works only if you give it access to internet. However, I don't want Garmin to know what I do, when I do it and where I do it.
I don't understand why it is not possible to use that app's features - like statistics - without being online. I've been in regions where I didn't have connection (Amazonas, Andes, Australia's Outback, Swiss Alps, Cuba ...).
Because everything is calculated on servers.
