A big part of being a coach is not pushing people, but actually reassuring them that rest and recovery is okay. Many riders who reach out for coaching are already competitive and driven. They don't need pushing, they need guidance regarding structure and how to train more effectively. A big part of what I do is fatigue management, stress management and life balance. Most coaches spend more time pulling on the reins than cracking a whip. If a rider has a tendency to get caught up details and go down rabbit holes, then a good coach should keep it simple and incorporate things they enjoy that will allow them to maintain their love of riding. A bunch ride with your mates may not be the most effective training, but if that makes you happy and the keeps rest of your training on track, then it's important to incorporate it into your plan. Personally I would really enjoy reviews based off of you guys eBay buying 2nd hand stuff. Ranging from 1-5k for example. Of course it is difficult to do and is such a wide range of bikes available. But you could do it based on what you guys specifically would buy, what you look for, and a review on how to find the right things. @@MartinBrown-mb7pz saigon. It’s lovely but a little too hot to cycle for my liking - though many do, in fact almost everyone did until 20 years ago. Next big purchase will be a bike.
You guys interested in having a look at the new Specialized Chisel FS? That's probably the most exciting new bike for me in a long time, but I know you guys are more road focused.
For me it’s the 2024 Merida Silex. Mohoric won the World championship on the most premium version. But they have exceptional Alu versions of it for very reasonable prices. It’s an extremely versatile bike that looks the part as well. Thick tire clearance, easy but clean cable routing. Mounting points galore. Nice geometry. Just 1 gripe, the old one had a thicker drop bar. Which I preferred over the new slimmer one.
Thanks for another fun video. I agree. Wear "whatever" you like to ride a bike. I used to wear kit when I was young. Now that I am a lumpy, old lady 😂, and ride gravel, I wear comfortable cloths. Don't even clip in, went to flat pedals. Keep up the good work. Cheers. 🌞🚴♀️🖖
the zwift bike is exciting to me as an easy way to share an account with my wife who is different sized than i, we currently need 2 different bikes and install them for whoever is riding onto the kickr...$1200 for all the gear is very price competitive for everything you get.
It’s basically a medium sized bike with adjustable seat and handlebar height. You could do this with a normal bike, quick release seat clamp and an adjustable stem.
Even if I have no intentions of buying top end stuff the reviews of it are really valuable as it points to where the industry is going overall and what can be expected in low to mid end in a few years. This is also why the brands spend so much more on the top end events. It matches the proportion of their R&D spend probably. Designing a new gen Sram Red is vastly more complex and expensive than downgrading the same tech to Force or Rival.
I find the Zwift Ride makes a lot of sense. I am in a family of 4, but I am the only one in the family that actually rides outdoors. Whereas the other 3 are not inclined to do that, and there's no way we'd keep 3 more bikes at home that won't be used, regardless of how cheap it is. So having a 'cheap' alternative that lives on the turbo and can be adjusted is great to get them exercising. I think if you consider this product from a non-avid cyclist stand point, then it works.
It's a shame that I love that GCN website quite well. Reading is a lot faster when you just want to get that same amount of information. What takes 10 minutes on a video would usually just be 2 on an article. It's like a transcript but better organized, and it's almost 1-1 to their video counterpart. Video has it's limitation but monetialization is just better -- you can't show a "how to ride a bike" video without an actual bike and all the kits -- all of this allow for much greater brand exposure, especially if you measure that exposure and impression by time. Just yesterday I was wondering why their website directly redirects to their YT channel, when I was searching for some aero testing stuff. Thought it could be just a technical glitch. Information in the video is a lot harder to search and consumes a lot time to find what you need. It's just a shame that we have to stand that loss.
Depending on what Peleton system one has, it has a "smart" function where resistance is adjusted for the rider automatically (but one can still do manually if, e.g., one wants to increase or decrease resistance outside the suggested parameters). Great work as always, you lot! Cheers.
All brands do it. It's literally marketing 1.01. Create a (positive) emotional response. it's why so many people buy so much stuff they don't need. We don't need most of the stuff we buy...and the stuff we do need we don't need the best of or brand names. It's all about desire.
They have never seen someone take it apart?! For god’s sake. The main gripe people have with these clean bikes is how hard the small things can be. And honestly pinarello did some real clever engineering at the headtube. I’d be really proud to show that off.
Center Parcs is FANTASTIC we love it but when you have a family and you are required to adhere to school holidays it is MENTAL expensive, the prices for a mid-week break can sometimes jump by as much as 7 times in the summer holidays. We still love it and we still go but it can cost close to a holiday on a beach somewhere sunny.
IMO i think you should take all the press trips you are offered. The video on the Dogma was great also it would be cool to VLOG the trips. E.g. Seeing Jimmy react to a stuffy 8 course meal would be great content! 😂
Poor Jimmi ... three days in a five star resort, eating five star prepared meals in the Italian Dolomites and being privileged enough to ride one of the top bikes in the world. You guys are taking hipster to the next level 🤣🤣🤣 Francis' old channel would have taken his subscribers on the journey ... definitely miss the old content.
Did you listen at all to what they said about the event? The lack of freedom they had? The four hour presentations? The fact that they were still barely able to get video and will put a video together soon? Sounds like you’re annoyed for the sake of being annoyed.
@@lookpro.rideslow The event is just like any other big promotional event for any other big industry. They put you up, wine an dine you, and then fully expect you to give a good review or buy lots of their stuff. It is up to you. You pay for the trip with your time watching the propaganda. Big deal. Otherwise, buy the bike, do a review, sell the bike. Then you can't complain - except you would, because then you would lose money on the resale. Suck it up if you want to eventually get a free bike to test for a while.
For example the Lauf Uthald Ultimate w sram red is 6k w same frame and force for 4700. Another is the Helios A9X w Dura ace for 4500 or A8X w ultegra for 3800! There is a lot of opportunity for the mere mortals in this area of smaller companies that go direct to customer, decent quality frame w off the shelf but higher tier components for literally 50% of the cost. But all the attention is on the pinarello dogma f me
In the low/midrange market of bikes, the wheelset is an important part of the equation. Oh that bike has ultegra and the other one has 105. for sure the ultegra for the same price is better. But what if there is a solid dt swiss wheelset with a good freehub mounted on the 105 bike? On the other hand, especially on the cheaper bikes, a short segment when you test them with a 'good' wheelset would also be great. e.g. As a beginner you will be fine with that wheelset, and after an year you can upgrade your wheelset for 500€ and get an really great bike. On the other hand I would appreciate if you put some decent tires on them for the test.
@@cooltwittertag My point was that I would rather have a bike with 105 and a solid set of wheels (eg alu dt swiss) instead of ultegra with reallly cheap wheels. And for sure Iam talking non DI2. You used to get a aluminium Radon R1 Disc Ultegra for ~1800€ and the 105 for ~1500€ What is low/midrange for you?

Jimmy, polenta is made from corn flour and water, when you add something else, like cheese it's called "polenta concia" literal "mess up polenta". And yes, we eat a lot of meat, beef and pork on top of others
so much sweat was entering my frame through the seat tube bottle cage mounts (screws had been removed)m that ate through the aluminum bottom bracket insert and weakened the frame which resulted in the frame cracking. When i removed the crank to investigate i discovered a pile of salt and a hole in the bb. Much to my surprise cannondale replaced the frame for free!
i think putting 10k bikes in front of people also increases their value for the layman so that the people who buy them can show them off to an audience who knows the value
I spent a week in Ghent a couple of years ago. Amazing city and, yeah, the car free thing was fantastic. But in the UK, that constitutes a conspiracy 🤯
The wine confiscation thing is a shocker to me. I didn't realize UK airports had adopted US security arrangements for transferring from an international to a domestic flight. That was always such a convenient thing for going anywhere into Europe, staying on the airside of security even when you cleared customs. I'm a bit confused though; did he transfer from Gatwick to Heathrow, which is what it sounds like Jimmi was saying, or is it what Francis was saying which would be American-style having to re-clear security after customs even if he'd been flying into Heathrow from Venice in the first place?
Re: the zwift setup - I use a cannondale evo with a quarq on a dumb trainer on zwift. These frames on a kickr would be cool rather than pelotons or in addition at gyms or spaces with such amenities.
I agree with Jimmy's assessment of ASO. The took a functioning Women's race and binned it. Now we are fighting for scraps of the former race. I think we could bring back the "Tour de France Femmes" in it's former glory as a race before the race.
Thanks for details about the shuttering of the GCN news website, always hate to hear about layoffs but I have to say that I continued to turn to Cycling News and Velo and such for racing/cycling news and headlines. And I have a Fluff Up to report, not really but at least a failure to be a considerate fellow cyclist. I was locking up my daily driver outside a coffee shop when a young guy was pushing his discount-store 26" bike with a rear flat tire. And usually I have my tool pack and a fresh 26" tube in a rear pannier and I offered to fix his flat, nothing but a few minutes and a tube. But no, arg, I had left my repair gear at home, nothing to offer. And he was fine about it as he was pushing his bike home a couple of miles for dinner, but I was disappointed not to have met his need. Maybe next time. 😀
What about yellow cards for spectators getting in the way of climbs? I understand how much atmosphere it adds to the event but it can get out of hand, thinking of that time Pogačar was halted as he tried to break away because the motorbike stalled or was hemmed in by spectators 😮
The biggest winner of Pinnarelo's new bike release is Colnago which (probably not coincidentally) introduced its V4 on the same day at half price compared to the new Dogma F.

As someone from within the industry. I know your numbers are way off. But yes most parts are made in Taiwan/Southeast Asia. Frames mostly by Giant and lesser extend Merida. (Which both do an really good job) Shimano parts are usually made in Japan.
Cade media < wants to be thought of as a serious cycling media channel, gets invited to a big launch , and act like amateurs . Let them wine and dine you !!! It’s the industry you aspire to be part of
I do not understand. Are you expecting all the manufactures of these high-end bikes and their components to hold same level of launch events for their multiple lower-level versions? If I cannot afford these top-of-the-line bikes or components, I will wait until their cheaper versions, which do perform 90% of their more expensive counter parts. Please do continue to review bikes and components which we commoners can purchase. Thanks.
Zwift bike will be more quiet than a real bike, because virtual shifting. Also save a bit of space because no front wheel, which would work for storage in my home gym. So overall, it’s an ok product. I have a kickr already, so wouldn’t buy the full package - but I’m interested. Shame about the bars being too wide.
The transfering of levels seems so dumb. If i have played skyrim and maxxed out my character and then go to fallout I don't want my levels transfered because levelling up is the fun.
Yeah, I found that a bit odd given the crank itself is basically a cheap, single speed/track crank running square taper. Seems like they could have at least given the option of preferred length at point of sale.

Another ridiculous knighthood for another currently competitive athlete. This should have gone to Chris Boardman who has done more for cycling than Hoy Wiggins Cavendish combined.
Hi there, your video triggered several thoughts I had dormant for a while. - first is the price of bikes:what about UCI playing a role that could benefit the industry at large such as a tour bike shall not cost more than 5k€ . So the technological push has to come with a cost effort. Sin the avent of electronic shifting and a the disappearance of mechanical system, cost have gone up - none of the integration have help the cost down - what does the bike industry need to go back into health? I think it is a question that is worth exploring and possibly presented back. There is no value of further consolidation in the bike industry. What about lbs, what about warranties, youth development and so forth. I understand this might be a bit of wishfull thinking but somehow bike and the industry around it have lost the purpose of what is should be. Anyone thank for the video and if someone is up for it I ll join in for a proposal.
Watch a cycling stream is like watching grass grow. In my own flawed opinion, cycling isn't really a spectator's sport: "Oh look that guy pedalled! Woah he did it again!" Two hours of that.
Throwing a leg over a bicycle is dangerous. Cornering at the speeds these guys do has resulted in a lot more crashes than the Supertuck ever did, in fact, I don't remember a pro ever coming off their bike while doing the supertuck, do you?
Hi Wild Ones: Re the Dogma, I rode a friend's Dogma F (the previous model, which I agree looks better) and it's the best bike I've ever ridden...but would I buy one...no. I couldn't justify spending that much on a bike but more importantly, I'd worried all the time about damaging it.
Manufacturers buy off the members of the press with a _paid vacation_ and discipline them, if necessary, by cutting access. Payed to play. Have you ever seen a review of the top bike from one of the major manufacturers saying that it wasn't worth the price tag and recommending for most people to go with their mid price one ?
Hi guys, do you think you could try and get SAVA to lend you an F20 for review? Would love your take on it as it looks like an insane value proposal right now for 1600£ w/ mechanical full 105 groupset and carbon wheels. Love the show
How long does it really require to review a bike? I could do a pretty long-term review in a day or less by one long ride over selected terrain. When I bought my gravel bike, I tried a couple bikes from the shop and it was pretty obvious within 10 minutes which bike was more suitable - mostly the one that wasn’t a 1 By.
Too many in the cycling industry are trying to flog road race bikes, which aren't suited to most riders. It's bollocks......only the other week Specialized released the Crux DSW - but very little from those same media......
Warner Brothers Discovery has a lot of debt they are doing all kinds of to control costs, especially in the sports space. GCN/GCN+ is just an causalty.
on Centre Parcs, there's places like this in the US and it too amazes me that they are such active tourist destinations but the layout and joy and community of them doesn't translate back to normal life. the one that comes to mind for me is Sunriver, Oregon
Kulset is indeed sitting on the seat if you actually use your eyes. If the UCI cant see "Clearly" that he is in a banned position, he shouldnt be banned from starting the next day imo.
I hope you've sent Pinarello three coach tickets to attend the Wild Ones merch drop. One night in Whitley Bay, small fish and chips and one soft drink , free!
35:33 Wow Jimmy, that's not how any decent system (should) work. It should not be his responsibility to prove he's not doing anything wrong. It should be the UCI's to prove he did.

These aren't marketing presentations. They are press junkets as you said to suck off influencers with the expectation that you will create free marketing for them. If they fly you there and put you up it's a junket. And you're right, it's obscene.
A real person coach is much better than just buying a training plan off the internet. A good coach will cater to your needs and lifestyle. And most of the time, they’re telling you to dial it down rather than do too much
99% of your audience don't buy $10k bikes, but 99% of your audience also doesn't buy $1k bikes, either. The top spec bike gets the hype, because below that, it's all about how much of a bike *like* that can we afford in our price range? As for the SRAM point, new tech isn't introduced on a second tier groupset. All the newsworthy advancements roll out on the marquee groupset and then trickles down. Of course there's no big event for "here's this year's second tier groupset featuring last year's top-tier advancements".
I hope there’s an option for wider handlebars to suit my bike fit with 48 cm or 50cm. I’ve never understood how anyone could write a road bike with such narrow handlebars comfortably. I have had to put up with narrow 46 cm for a number of decades.
Interesting. I used to ride 44cm, but have gone to 42, and am thinking about 40's. The rule is, very close to the width of your shoulder bones. Bike fit Tuesdays have a number of episodes with James going off at manufacturers fitting much too wide bars for most people.
Hi @@richardhaselwood9478 that is correct. Despite being only 1.72 m tall my shoulder width is 49 cm. And my wingspan hands to hands or should I say fingertip to fingertip is approximately 1.8 m.
It's not a dangerous position at all. Perhaps you just don't have the kahoonas to try it. If you are confident and have generally good bike handling skills, it's awesome. UCI are a bunch of nannies.
How to separate dentists from their money. Emily is easy on the eyes though. Miss old channel honestly…kinda like rim brakes (no worries NBD last wk was rim brake). -U10
Seems like if they did a release like that on $1000 bikes they would no longer cost $1000. Really I appreciate your reviews of the lower end stuff, but I'm more likely to click on the aspirational stuff! If not a fully adjustable smart bike I'd rather use a regular bike with the trainer.

Cheers.
Fascinating. The machinations of big bike brands wooing the media. Helps to explain how $2000 bikes end up costing $10000.
All brands do it. It's literally marketing 1.01. Create a (positive) emotional response. it's why so many people buy so much stuff they don't need. We don't need most of the stuff we buy...and the stuff we do need we don't need the best of or brand names. It's all about desire.
do you ever get bored of complaining about bikes that are more expensive than you prefer
And don't forget all the free bikes for influencers that raise the cost for the rest of us.
@@janemf imagine if no-one complained lol just shut up and accept everything?
@@janemfI wish they'd recognize that whining isn't going to change prices, but is making comment sections annoying for the rest of us.
They have never seen someone take it apart?!
For god’s sake. The main gripe people have with these clean bikes is how hard the small things can be.
And honestly pinarello did some real clever engineering at the headtube. I’d be really proud to show that off.
Emily's eye shadow game is on point.
GCN was my introduction to cycling back in 2014. In a year and a half I did my first century ride.
Feel like we have different understandings of low/midrange if yours includes ultegra and dt swiss
@@cooltwittertag My point was that I would rather have a bike with 105 and a solid set of wheels (eg alu dt swiss) instead of ultegra with reallly cheap wheels.
And for sure Iam talking non DI2. You used to get a aluminium Radon R1 Disc Ultegra for ~1800€ and the 105 for ~1500€
What is low/midrange for you?
I started to listen to the podcast on Spotify, stopped it for switching to youtube, but it wasn't posted yet... I might as well listened the whole thing on Spoti, but I will search the video for the pictures 🙂
Ride your bike- wear what you want! love it
i think putting 10k bikes in front of people also increases their value for the layman so that the people who buy them can show them off to an audience who knows the value
Remember when Emily was occasionally heard but never seen. She must have had about 70% of the screen time today. 😂
She has a nice face for tv🙂
I'm gonna start a drinking game for every time Jimmi says space 😂
I bet you'd like Ghent, Belgium. A big part of our city centre is car free and you get around by bike, tram or on foot.
I spent a week in Ghent a couple of years ago. Amazing city and, yeah, the car free thing was fantastic. But in the UK, that constitutes a conspiracy 🤯
@@bugsygoo yeah I've been to the UK a few times, very strong car culture I noticed.
Just saw you guys pop up on Tour de France Unchained season 2! Outstanding!
Re: the zwift setup - I use a cannondale evo with a quarq on a dumb trainer on zwift. These frames on a kickr would be cool rather than pelotons or in addition at gyms or spaces with such amenities.
The only perk I can think of with the zwift bike over a cheap part dedicated to the turbo, is the adjustability.
Hard to believe now, but in the pre-Lance Armstrong era people hated the UCI for unannounced drug testing.
I wish I could make sense of it all but I am sat, looking at a screen, watching three people sat in chairs, chatting. About riding bikes.
Card system for driving issues is also triathlonlike action (:

As someone from within the industry. I know your numbers are way off. But yes most parts are made in Taiwan/Southeast Asia.
Frames mostly by Giant and lesser extend Merida. (Which both do an really good job)
Shimano parts are usually made in Japan.

Best podcast ever. I love this channel.
It's a great idea
I quit zwift when you annonced the price jump and found mywoosh a week later haha. Couldnt care less about levels though..
If the Zwift bike had more crank length options it would be great for my household and coaching business.
Yeah, I found that a bit odd given the crank itself is basically a cheap, single speed/track crank running square taper. Seems like they could have at least given the option of preferred length at point of sale.
Ewww, I wouldn't borrow shorts. No sir, never. That's a showstopper. Happened to me once, I just went back home and missed the fun of a road race in driving rain and 2°C.

Sin the avent of electronic shifting and a the disappearance of mechanical system, cost have gone up - none of the integration have help the cost down
- what does the bike industry need to go back into health?
Why's everything related to cycling so expensive?
I might as well go full blown middle class and take up dressage.
As a carnivore, I feel your pain! In the US you are served junk food everywhere! Meat is priced at a premium so I never eat out. 😅
Too many in the cycling industry are trying to flog road race bikes, which aren't suited to most riders. It's bollocks......only the other week Specialized released the Crux DSW - but very little from those same media......
Their modelling was top notch 😂

Warner Brothers Discovery has a lot of debt they are doing all kinds of to control costs, especially in the sports space. GCN/GCN+ is just an causalty.
The real fluff up was not drinking the wine on the spot in front of security.
on Centre Parcs, there's places like this in the US and it too amazes me that they are such active tourist destinations but the layout and joy and community of them doesn't translate back to normal life. the one that comes to mind for me is Sunriver, Oregon

Seems like if they did a release like that on $1000 bikes they would no longer cost $1000. Really I appreciate your reviews of the lower end stuff, but I'm more likely to click on the aspirational stuff! If not a fully adjustable smart bike I'd rather use a regular bike with the trainer.
