  • This is another video in my series “New Forest Walks” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I take a 4.5 mile walk that follows the Avon Valley Path as it weaves its way out of the town of Ringwood (South West Hampshire) and heads South through tranquil water meadows in the direction of Christchurch.
    Looping back through farmland and country lanes I get to see the delightful Hightown Lake and walk along the disused “Castleman Corkscrew”Railway Line.
    The weather was superb for this walk and the route along the River Avon was very pretty. Logan got to have some fun towards the end of the walk when he got to try out a “Dog Activity” area!

    Being a local, I have visited Ringwood many times over the years. In recent years, every few weeks I have visited a friend who lives there. Yet I have never encountered most of the nooks and crannies you have looked out for us in this video. Full marks and a gold star!

    I only learned of you this morning when I was walking in the forest with Fraser, my whippet. I met another dog walker who asked me if I followed your TH-cam channel. Of course, on returning home, I immediately checked you out. I was delighted this was the first video I happened upon. Fortunately years ago I lived in Ringwood and this was a trip down memory lane. I have recently moved back down to Hampshire after many years, and Fraser and I are often looking for new walks.

    Another wonderful walk! Just loved all of those thatched cottages!!!😍 So beautiful each & ever one! Loved that scene in the begining w/ the canal, the little bridge, the weeping willow & the moored barge. So gorgeous!
    Not so sure Logan was much impressed w/ that dog training coarse.😄 I think he much prefers just a plain ol' sand pit to do his zoomies thru!!!😂🐕
    I'lll never forget our little Pandy always eating the Raspberries off of our plants. She'd pucker up her lips like a little bear & just suck them right off! All the lower branches were always kept cleaned off by little miss Pandy!!!🐼🐶😄😘

    I’m intrigued by the way Logan likes the brambles. I had a similar problem in my last house with some miscreant dumping their full dog poo bags over my wall. It’s damned annoying to say the least.

    Hello Dave, I enjoyed that walk it took me back to my first fishing trip when I was twelve years old. I remember catching the bus with a friend to Ringwood. I still get excited when I see the Avon I think that ford might have been where we fished. All the best Peter

    Yet another interesting walk. One question do you run and lead organise walks ? I am relatively new to the area and would value such. Guide books are great but following someone who has local knowledge is so much better. Thanks for the videos.

    • @DaveFord
      @DaveFord  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Alas, I don't lead or organise walks. I always put a map of the walk up on screen early on and if there is an aspect to look out for (ie a footpath sign that is hidden from view) then I will mention it in the video. Most of the walks are circular and , with the combination of an OS map and the video, should be easy to follow. The objective of the videos is really to highlight our wonderful countryside to folk, providing some interesting things to look at along the way that they might not normally notice. I hope you enjoy your new surroundings and have fun exploring. It is certainly a pretty part of the world.

    I love Ringwood and have eaten in that beautiful old restaurant years ago. That was a interesting route you took. Full of interest and beauty. A couple of years ago I walked the old trackbed from there to West Moors. From there, a bus back to Ringwood.

      The music on this video came from the TH-cam Audio Library (free to use & free of copyright). Much of it is by Chris Haugen.
