I would be in love with the s1000R save for one issue being they mount the headlight and clocks to the FORKS rather than the frame! IMHO that just sucks for adding a windscreen! With a frame mounted headlight like the MT-10 and 1200RS there is the potential for adding a windscreen that WONT be trying to steer the bike in strong cross winds etc. The only thing with the Triumph is there are no robust windscreens available that I can find! Just a tiny one from Puig is all I have seen s far as opposed to the MT10 there is a whole selection of avialble sizes

Thanks a lot for the comparison with the competition about the chassis !! This is what I was hoping and waiting. Glad to know how the new Speed 1200 ranks against it's rivals. I laughed so much with that cow giving birth 😂😂😂 I can't wait to see the video shootout : Tuono V4 vs Streetfighter V4 vs Superduke vs Speed 1200 😍 Which is best in each compartement (agility, braking, engine, gearbox, ergonomics, etc).
I test rode this a few weeks back. Handles lovely and brakes are very strong. Felt light and flickable. Well built, good finish. The Tuono felt heavy and slow to turn in comparison. The Triumph does loose out on mid range punch to the Other bikes in this sector. This bike would have been a contender if they separated the wheelie control and traction control. I find that just lazy.
Triumph is completely dropping the ball on electronics! I love my 765rs but it could use an imu and advanced electronics. I'd love to buy a 765 moto2 but for that price with old tech? And now this, what's the point of an imu if you can't have wheelies and TC separate?

Here's your bike for the day.....lets set the sag, turn the knobs for street vs track and go have fun. Adjust through out the day as needed. This is 2021 and IMO it's very short sighted by the OEM's. Looks like a really nice bike.
I totally agree! I own one and it is so comfortable and you can trust the bike in every corner: you didn’t feel like you’re going to high side from super nose dive, you don’t feel like the ass is constantly going to give out moving higher or lower in a corner passing someone then going max wrist, or any real problems I’d bitch about. I’m 6’5 and my lanky ass can make this bike do whatever I want on the track or street. I own a panigale V4s and this speed triple is no dog by any means.

Thanks for the review I was really thinking about swapping out my 1050rs for the new one and this put me right off. Still going to try it but as it seems they have sacrificed road for track no point swapping my road bike for it. Maybe time to update the zx10r instead.
I met a couple of lads at Kielder who had one each. They said the same even though they'd had them to a local TT racer who twiddled the suspension, they said the bike was better but still firm and definitely different to the old road biased 1050. Hmmmm!

Have heard a few testers complaining about how stiff the bike is. Shame because that shouldn’t be the case with the state of Triumphs home countries roads. The suspension development team should have ironed that out, no excuse at the price of bikes today. Good looking bike all the same.
I've got an SDR and an MT09, and they're both absolute blasts. I'd say, upping a sporty triple engine to 1160 will probably push the Triumph ahead of the SDR. I can definitely see one in my future!
Nice review. Seems more refined & classy compared to the lary competition. Hopefully you can dial out the stiffness. (Make childish comment now.) Group test should be a right hoot. New GSXS1000 out Monday but not holding my breath for a class leader.
Suzuki have given up. A mild reheat with a sprinkling of electronics - Just like the new Hayabusa. You wouldn't believe they just won the MotoGP championship. Sad really.
This thing is begging for a factory full fairing kit. I know Triumph has said that they may not release a standalone sport bike based on this chassis but hopefully they will offer an add on kit to convert the bike.
Wish they'd make them in more colours. For 4 years now you can only get the Street Triple RS in black, white or grey. Thinks it's the same for the Speed. Want to see some metallic reds/greens. Also, not being able to speed on camera due to the Joe Achilles precedent is a shame.
As allways the realistic report on this bike. Thx from an aging and fast Tuono-Rider who spend years and money prior tuning his old Speed triple till it dropped. Love the new bike exept the poor exaust position and fixing by the footrests...
Nice review, in classic 44t style we love, i have been so tempted to get one (still maybe will) and sell my Street Triple 765 RS, i dont ride on track so may just keep the 765 now.
I was considering shopping for deals on a 2020 1050 RS however his description of them plus the issues I’ve read online today about gearbox issues has convinced me to not bother.
@@LondonSteveLee A search of Speed Triple RS gearbox issues will turn up a lot of results. Seems the quick shifter can cause serious damage to the gearbox. I love the look of the 1050 but would hate having a gearbox grenade just out of warranty.
Great review Al. I currently own the old model Speed Triple and now I'm sad and depressed. I won't be updating any time soon due to costs, but I still enjoy riding my old polished turd.😉👍🇦🇺
@@LondonSteveLee I thought the old model has heaps of mid range does lack higher in the revs. Handles great on smooth roads very planted front end but I find it terrible on bumpy roads may be it's my setup? Still puts a smile on my face great bike overall.👍
Love the look and sound of this bike. Possible contender for myself. Also just renewed my bike insurance with @BeMoto mentioned 44-teeth which to my surprise means I only pay £100 excess in the event of an accident. Happy days. 👍👍🍺🍺🏍💨
Are you planning on doing a longer road ride ? Seriously your roads in England are woeful, no corners or elevation ,you both need to plan a holiday to Australia and experience some awesome roads we are so lucky .
Sold my diavel 1260s for this speed triple 1200 and haven’t regretted it once. It is the perfect combo of a panigale V4s vs diavel. God the dash is so much nicer in person. This bike is awesome. I simply hated triumph bikes but this one sold me instantly. I bought mine with a 15lbs lighter titanium exhaust and 15 more hp and goddamn ole mighty the bike gets scary. The throttle response is so responsive… whiskey throttling is a very real possibility if you don’t respect that throttle once modified. I’m a pangigale V4s owner and lover but this bike will handle with some stiff competition.
Having had the previous three generations of Speed Triple R/RS I can tell you why the back end felt weird. All three of my Triples equipped with the Ohlins TTX suspension came from the factory with fuck all spring preload in it. Looking at how much the bike compressed when you leaned on it stood next to it talking-I can already see this is the case. All three of my bikes had the preload to the minimum levels. All three bikes had to be taken to a professional to get the sag and static sags dialed in. They all needed over three whole turns of the preload collar to get the required amount. And I'm not fat weighing 86kg. Once dialled in they all became weapons in the bends.
I'm confident that a fully faered version will come out eventually, in the same sense the Tiger 1050 Sport was a faered version of the speed triple, yeah yeah, taller and whatnot, but that's the kinda variant of bike that sells, not sportsbikes
Al, you should definitely do a video on popping wheelies. Too many people have this idea of “rev the tits off the bike, dump the clutch, snd rely solely on the back brake.” I’ve been riding a long time and yes the back brake comes into play, the bike does have to be revved higher than normal, snd the clutch does need to have to be released harder but you do it like I’ve always done it; I get the rpm’s high enough, not pinging the rev limiter, dump the clutch 3/4 to full and then feather the throttle and use the rear brake only as necessary.
I don't get that camera rule. If you crash at 150 plus miles per hour the least of your worries is a camera attached to your chin lol. Another great review Fagan!
I think the cost difference between this and a 765RS is ridiculous. £10.5k vs £15k, according to the triumph website. This has no benefits other than a punchier motor, but the 765 is not lacking there. I think these will be a rarity by comparison.
Hmmm....Michael Rutter lapped the last version (2018) Speed Triple 1050 RS faster than a 2017 Superduke at Donnington albeit slower than the all mighty Tuono! The 2021 Speed Triple 1200 could be a Tuono slayer!

As allways the realistic report on this bike. Thx from an aging and fast Tuono-Rider who spend years and money prior tuning his old Speed triple till it dropped. Love the new bike exept the poor exaust position and fixing by the footrests...
thankyou mate that was a truly excellent review
Couldn’t agree more about the outgoing bike’s demeanor. Interested to test ride the new bike before deciding my next purchase.
Gearbox issues aren't that common - not compared to, say, an Aprilia Tuono.
@@LondonSteveLee A search of Speed Triple RS gearbox issues will turn up a lot of results. Seems the quick shifter can cause serious damage to the gearbox. I love the look of the 1050 but would hate having a gearbox grenade just out of warranty.
Surely MSV would let journalists take cameras on track! Ffs it’s a bike launch
Nice video Al! 👍
MSV are a bunch of health and safety wets.
Love the slick leathers Al!
Great review Al. I currently own the old model Speed Triple and now I'm sad and depressed. I won't be updating any time soon due to costs, but I still enjoy riding my old polished turd.😉👍🇦🇺
What do you love about the old Speed Triple? You may find the new one is too hard edged for you. The old one is a banging road bike.
@@LondonSteveLee I thought the old model has heaps of mid range does lack higher in the revs. Handles great on smooth roads very planted front end but I find it terrible on bumpy roads may be it's my setup? Still puts a smile on my face great bike overall.👍
@@Flip01 Triumphs are usually renowned for being setup well for bumpy roads - try taking 2-3 clicks of compression damping out.
@@LondonSteveLee thanks will try that.👍
Al that is one wild suit FFS 😂👍, great review as always.
Love the look and sound of this bike. Possible contender for myself.
Also just renewed my bike insurance with @BeMoto mentioned 44-teeth which to my surprise means I only pay £100 excess in the event of an accident. Happy days. 👍👍🍺🍺🏍💨
Love your work Fagan ,Could you do a episode on the gear you wear .Im about to buy my riding stuff and would be great to listen to your tips ?
Love what they did with the exhaust. I hated the under seat exhaust.
That's awesome Al cant wait to have a test ride out myself, it mite be my next bike? Anyway you take care and ride safe TTFN
Oh, also, might I say that I gave up an Italian to own a Brit, lol. Long live the queens of stone age or something like that, lol.
Two favorite motorcycle things: 44teeth + Triumph. What can be better?
The Thruxton review with Al and TT Gaz was epic too
Those big UK licence plates really are a crime against motorbikes
Agreed my 765RS preload was so light. I had to give the shock 4 or 5 turns
Really good review, cheers.
Looking forward to a test ride on this
I like it. Triumph has finally provided a good big bore roadbike
I'm confident that a fully faered version will come out eventually, in the same sense the Tiger 1050 Sport was a faered version of the speed triple, yeah yeah, taller and whatnot, but that's the kinda variant of bike that sells, not sportsbikes
Stiffer lighter good steering what more do we want test riding ☝️on Saturday great review
Oim soh-rah oh-fi-cuh, oi just opened the throh-uhl.... Haha. I wish I talked like them. It's so fun to listen to.
Sounds good; shame no track footage under power :( we’ll keep an eye out for follow-up footage
Triumph become a total winner in terms of price/ components, performance, reliability and aesthetics. Queen of the market!
Loving the new suit Al 👌🏽
The way he got nabbed and his spoke too soon comment transition was hilarious.
I don't get that camera rule. If you crash at 150 plus miles per hour the least of your worries is a camera attached to your chin lol. Another great review Fagan!
Might be time to trade in my Street Triple R 2011, 1200RS with decat could make it only about 10 kilo difference.
I think the cost difference between this and a 765RS is ridiculous.
£10.5k vs £15k, according to the triumph website.
This has no benefits other than a punchier motor, but the 765 is not lacking there. I think these will be a rarity by comparison.
I'm saving this one for on the big screen!
I get part of the reasons why MSV don’t allow cameras BUT UK track days are bad enough as it is... let’s spoil them some more!
Hmmm....Michael Rutter lapped the last version (2018) Speed Triple 1050 RS faster than a 2017 Superduke at Donnington albeit slower than the all mighty Tuono! The 2021 Speed Triple 1200 could be a Tuono slayer!
